    Spider Roll

Recently, we went to Sushi Express for a Saturday lunch. They had steady traffic, which was nice to see. Conner was the solo server so he was running around quite a bit. Dad and Hubby shared the Tempura Appetizer and the Galbi Tang, which is soup with short ribs. We all shared the Spider Roll, LA Galbi, and the Japchae. The ban chan (sides) are the best because they bring as much as you want. It was actually quite a lot of food that we ended up taking the Japchae home. It's the closest Korean restaurant to our home so when we need a quick fix, this is our go-to. For those in the Stone Oak area who haven't discovered Sushi Express, check them out!

I'm a newbie to Korean cuisine so I wanted to check out Sushi Express with the family. We started with the tempura appetizer, 2 shrimp and 4 veggies. We added another shrimp since there were 3 of us. The tempura was crunchy and not greasy. The LA Galbi had good flavor but some short rib pieces were bone with no meat. The banchan (side dishes) were plentiful. Nice that we could get refills at no additional charge. It was weird that we were given very small plates to eat family style. Shrimp Yakisoba had a good balance of shrimp, vegetables and noodles. I'd love to return to try more Korean food.

Stick with sushi. I usually get the lunch sushi special but this time I thought I would try something different and got the summer rolls. I opened it up and it wasn't even rolled or it busted and they just left it like that. I'm kind of glad it was though because then I saw the shrimp and saw that it wasn't fully cleaned

The pork pocket/ bao was really good. The pork was cooked well, the sauce was good, and the cucumber paired well with it. The lunch roll combination 3 was good. I really liked the Stone Oak roll. I've never tried tteok-bokki, I didn't really like it but I won't hold that against them because I have never had something like that.

LA Galbi Japchae KIMBOB (Maki Style) Kimchi-Jjigae Miami Fresh Roll (Vegetarian Roll)

We decided to go here at the last min to get some korean food. Wasn't too busy on a saturday afternoon so the service was quick. The kimbap (5/5) was great! The roll is big, perfectly seasoned and subtly flavoredNice way to start the meal. The LA galbi (5/5) was amazing from the presentation the char to the flavor itself. Couldn't get enough of it with the white rice! The kimchi jiggae was a flop because the flavors were off. However our server was nice enough to take it off our ticket! The japchae w/o beef (4.5/5) was also really flavorful albeit slightly sweet. Mom had the Miami fresh roll which I couldn't comprehend nor brave enough to try but I'll take her word that it was good. Ended with the mochi ice cream (4/5) which is basically an ice cream wrapped with a chewy mochi covering. Loved that it wasn't too sweet! Overall it's a great place to grab a casual meal. Our server was super friendly and helpful so definitely check it out! Overall the food was pretty solid apart from the kimchi

This is their chicken teriyaki dinner, I will never go back

There was some plastic wraps in the soup .. even though tang suyuk is beef in the menu, it was pork... bad experience..

Called in a takeout order for sushi- I think we got the Paradise roll and the Firecracker rolls? One was riceless, lettuce wrapped like a spring roll. The other was not overwhelmingly spicy. Fish in both was fairly portioned and seemed fresh enough. I did find it odd that it seemed the sauces for the rolls had been forgotten. Most places are pretty well versed on takeout procedures these days and most sushi places pack sauces separately on the side. My rolls were fresh and tasted okay, but dry without the sauces. Location was clean and staff were prompt and polite when I went in.

But my son, bless his heart, wasn't exposed to Officer Whats-his-face explaining to a class of fifth graders how deviously addictive substances like heroin, crack, and hot pot can be. So my kid has had a habit for about three or four years now. Chinese hot-pot barely tempts me these days; I don't need a numb mouth like that. Mongolian...that level of sodium was fine in my twenties, I guess. Shabu proper - served with ponzu and sesame sauce by some fella wearing a headband starts to get tempting. But I'm doing well this year, I've only flown to LA's Japantown for my fix once. And honestly, this is not that anyway. Most of these restaurants, where they expect me to boil my own dinner, are pretty easy to wean off of. I mean, seriously, how lazy can a restaurant owner be. Here's some raw meat, cook it yourself, folks? Unfortunately, Wild Japanese's offering is more akin to the most delicious of the hot pots. Singaporean or Malaysian style, with a gigantic assortment of sauces and a flavorful selection of broths, and the best soup you've ever had waiting for you at the end of your meal. And I hope that helps explain why when we go two weeks without a visit, my son starts to get really antsy and sees bugs crawling under his skin, just like Officer What's-His-Face said he would. I think originally you could get just not-shabu; nowadays, they make you pair the hot pot with some inferior food. We've tried the sushi a few times. That was a huge mistake. The Korean BBQ pairs well, it's just a lot of effort, and not a lot of soup, so we grill a token steak or two but otherwise stick to not-shabu. Anyway, that's a short entomology of hot pots throughout the world, excluding fondue, according to my tummy. I could probably stop anytime if I really wanted. Eating this delicious not-shabu. But for my son's sake, I go.

Old Review: If you have an allergy, please read!! I really hate to have to do this for what was one of my favorite go-to restaurants for years and years, but this is extremely disappointing. There were things marked as Gluten Free on the menu that were NOT gluten free. I even asked clarifying questions at least five times, and was still served gluten. Luckily, I could tell right away from experience and went and asked AGAIN. And yes, it has gluten. Ponzu, spicy sauce, and imitation crab almost always have gluten, yet the rolls were marked as gluten free on the menu. I told them the menu needs to be changed or they're going to make someone very sick. The sushi chef told me that the ones marked can be made gluten free, but not with what is shown on the menu and we have to ask for it, but I did do that. Multiple times. And my server confirmed this, she noted it on our order and everything. (Our server was very sweet, no issues with her). If the food is not gluten free and needs adjustments to be so, it should say that. I asked and it seems they're under new ownership now. I just hate that I can't trust this place anymore, they used to be great at explaining the allergens to me and I never had issues before. The menu needs to be updated right now or someone is going to get seriously sick. This is why those of us with allergies ask so many questions and have trouble trusting anything. To Sake Cafe's new owners, please please please do research on allergens and mark your menu accurately and very clearly. I hate to put one star, but people need to know, and things need to change.

We tried making reservations but the website said there were no reservations available. We decided to go and wait, knowing there were other good options nearby if the wait was too long. The restaurant was practically empty!! Started with appetizers of gyoza and iko karaage. The gyoza were good but the ika (essentially calamari) arrived barely warm, too heavily breaded, overcooked, and with a sweet sauce that did nothing to enhance the dish in any way. DH got a chicken katsu dish he enjoyed. I got a crispy chicken yuzu noodle that turned out to be a poorly executed chicken piccata. All the elements of chicken piccata were there, minus the balance of a good chicken piccata. So much garlic. Not good. An order of nigiri was also just ok for $16. I ordered unsweetened iced tea with sweetener on the side. All they have is an off brand pink packet. The tea didn't even taste like tea. It was brown sweet water. For over $100 for the two of us, we'll just stay closer to home for better and cheaper, next time.
