Everything was very salty, rice was hard, and the banchan was not fresh and left a lot to be wanted. I even tried it a second time to give it another shot but was just as disappointed. Food is extremely good, although over priced, but what prevents a 5 star rating is the terrible service. This was our third time going, and every time we've had a different waitress who did not have great customer skills, nor some standard knowledge of the menu. They've repetitively been extremely slow to attend to us, or check up on us, also occasionally forgetting something we asked for. Best sushi I've had in town so far! Mind you, I have only lived in San Antonio for a little over a month, but I will definitely be back. I can't remember the name of the roll I had but it had strawberries and kiwi sauce. It was amazing! Originally I planned on getting delivery (yes they deliver!), but the minimum amount needed for delivery was more then what i could possible eat. Instead I decided to do take out. I hadn't been to the area before and this area is amazingly beautiful! I found the restaurant and went inside and it was so cozy and the employees were so welcoming I decided to dine in even though I was in my "lazy day/unpacking" clothes. I was excited to try this place out as far as their Korean food is concerned. It was a let down. I guess because I'm korean and I know what to expect. The bibimbap (rice dish with veggies and meat) was less than average. There was some key ingredients that were missing. The JaJjangMyun (black noodles) was weird! Place was great. Just visiting San Antonio for the weekend and happened upon this place after looking at yelp. Strange combination of Korean and Japanese food but it turned out great. We had the chicken katsu, a Korean soup that was really spicy (Jjamppong), and a tejas Roll. The roll came out first and was really good with the combo of spicy tuna, salmon and cilantro. Their sweet and spicy sashimi sauce was excellent. The Korean soup had a thick egg noodle on it that was really good. Soup was spicy but had excellent flavor. Chicken katsu had a nice crunch to it and tasted moist. Menu is a little big and could stand to be paired down a little but the value and quality is phenomenal. We planned our day in San Antonio specifically after reading the reviews for Sushi Express. When we arrived, we walked right in and were the only ones in the restaurant. It wasn't until the end of our meal that we realized we got there almost a full hour before they were actually open. Our waiter just said that they won't turn anyone away as long as it's after 11am and not to worry about it. Considering most places would turn you away, this was huge! Beyond the AWESOME service (our drinks never were empty, food came super fast, and the waiter was beyond polite), the food was amazing! We had the Sea Chest roll, crab nigiri, the bulgogi lunch special, and the pork potstickers. All of it was so yummy! We could barely decide what to order since they have a Japanese and a Korean menu and it all looked amazing! We will definitely be back to try more from their extensive menu! read more

Extremely unhappy with my first experience at this place. I lived in Japan for a few years, so I know my sushi/Japanese cuisine. The first issue was with the sake. I ordered the nigori sake which they were out of so the waitress recommended a different type. I decided to try it...I tasted it and did not like it, so I got the house hot sake. The house sake was good, but they refused to take the original one off the ticket even tho I literally took one sip of it. That is terrible customer service. The next issue was with the food. I ordered the sushi/sashimi dinner and vegetable tempura. They messed up and brought out shrimp tempura on accident...when they finally brought out the vegetable tempura, the vegetables were not fully cooked all the way through. It seems like they rushed it to get it out...in addition, my boyfriend was completely finished with his meal before I got my tempura/sushi...Name of the restaurant is literally sushi express... The best meal I've had in my life! Had the sushi express roll for an appetizer. Since my friend doesn't eat a lot of sushi, this was a safe bet for him (sorry didn't get a pic). Then the real deal best Korean food came out. I had Stone Pot Biminbap with an Iced Green tea and he had the Pork Bulgogi with unsweet tea.
