THIS PLACE IS ****ING AMAZING! The service, the sushi, the atmosphere. It is just perfect. I discovered this place during finals week when a couple of my friends and I were tired of eating at convoy and wanted to try something new. We approached Fish Attack! with caution since there are a lot of crappy sushi joints and we expected this one to fall into the same fate. But to our surprise, this place did not disappoint. The friendly service and welcoming sushi chefs were a new delight. The first time we came here, the waitress accidentally knocked over our soy sauce and we were given free ice cream for the apology, which was extremely surprising to me, but welcoming! The ice cream was amazing too! Back to the first time. We ordered the standard Philadelphia roll, crunchy, california, and shrimp tempura. Then we ordered the special rolls: candy, flower, spider, and pizza. And OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were all perfectly cooked and made. Most philadelphia rolls I eat have WAY too much cream cheese and it overpowers everything, but this one here had a perfect blend of cream cheese. It made the roll taste like a sushi roll and not just cream cheese. The special rolls are also a piece of art. They come looking like how they are described. A flower, so beautiful and delicious. The spider, crunchy and spider-like, made me rethink what I was actually eating. The candy roll was odd, some of my friends didn't like it, but I liked it, so it's a hit or miss with this one. The pizza roll threw us all away. When it arrived, it looked like a circle of sushi rolls, but when we each went to pick at it, to our surprise it was cut into slices of pizzas and tasted like pizza but with the elements of sushi! This is a great neighborhood sushi joint. My husband and I have visited several times for "lunch dates". He is extremely physically active and we usually order 4+ rolls and an appetizer. We really enjoy the jalapeno poppers app. Off the rolls we've tried the most memorable have been the Orange Crush, Red Dragon, Kamikaze, and the Ex - Boyfriend. Those are the rolls on the menu we would order again. Keep an eye on the specials of the day; often they feature specialty rolls that you won't find on the menu that are delicious. The restaurant itself is on the small side. We usually sit inside and the dishes are served slowly so we don't have a ton of large plates on our small 2- person table. This also gives us time to appreciate each roll's presentation before we dig in. While the parking is free, there isn't much of it as the lot is shared with two other businesses. If it's full I advise you to park in the large lot at the Clairmont Town Square and walk over - it's not even a five minute walk. Four stars because the food meets and sometimes exceeds expectations. AH-mazing sushiness! Everything we had was delicious. The sushi pizza was very unique and had deep fried rice as the "crust" with hamachi and spicy tuna on top... yummmmm. The staff was super friendly too. The sushi chef even came over to check on us. There was no wait on a Thursday evening and we were basically the only people in the place. Went here last night for Mothers Day dinner - it can be difficult to find a sushi place that's good for kids. We used to love Kirin Sushi over in Point Loma, but they've been closed for a while now...we loved the owner of that place more than their food anyway. If I could give a place half-stars I might go with 4 and a half, as the waitress scoffed at us for ordering too much food. On one hand, it was annoying because we totally knew it was too much food, but my wife enjoys sushi leftovers (even though it's clearly not the best way to eat the stuff)...so let us give you more money right? On the other hand, I am a pretty fat dude so it was kind of sweet for her to act like she didn't think I was capable of eating all that we ordered (as well as everything on the neighboring tables). The service was friendly and helpful throughout - when we ordered edamame she gave us a heads-up that they would be bringing out a complimentary dish and asked if we still wanted it (saving us some dough, nice). They even presented my wife with a rose for the special occasion, which was very nice of them to do. Most importantly, the food was pretty damn grubbin! We got plates of chicken katsu and teriyaki for our kids and they loved them - miso, salad, rice and meat for 5 and a quarter each was a steal. Seaweed salad and pickled cucumbers with crab and shrimp were refreshing and delicious. And the sushi rolls? Seriously good...especially the Super Salmon Roll (smoked salmon, avocado, tiny thin slices of lemon) and the Thousand Island Roll (which was wrapped in shaved cucumber slices instead of seaweed or soy paper). No krab in this place either, just snow crab. Finally, the prices were eminently reasonable. I don't mean to overrate a place, but a solid 4.5 stars for what it's worth. It's way better sushi than, say, Sushi Deli (which isn't awful, just nothing special) for not a lot more money. The service is friendly and the ambiance is cozy. We'll be going back often. read more

I begrudgingly moved from PB to Clairemont, & I was resigned by the fact that I'd be surrounded by mediocre fast food. Fast forward to 2 months + 3 glowing recommendations, & I ended up here with a party of 7 on a Monday evening. & HEY, I'm actually quite impressed! It's a very small sushi joint so I don't recommend large parties (unless you have a reservation or come early). I started off with the yellowtail and salmon handrolls, which were stuffed with SLABS of fish. The Thousand Island roll had a variety of sashimi encased in a cucumber skin & is great for those who want protein only.. STRAIGHT GAINS, BRO! The Fish Attack roll is aptly named ... every bite will bombard you with a multitude of flavors, textures, & almost every fish from the sea (sorta).. It's definitely a must-try, if not for the namesake, for the impressive sauce latticed for your visual enjoyment. Service was great albeit sorely understaffed (1 waiter for the entire restaurant while it was at full capacity.. yikes!). Near the end of our meal, however, we were discouraged from ordering more b/c even just a handroll would take abt 20-30 minutes b/c the chefs were overwhelmed with so many backed up orders! Luckily we had already had our fill, but judging from the rest of the patrons that had suddenly swarmed the place & were idly toying w/ their chopsticks, we were the lucky ones. Overall I'm impressed by the pricing and quality of the fish, and proximitywill keep me coming back. Definitely be sure to come early so you don't have to wait, otherwise you'll actually have to keep a conversation going instead of stuffing your face. read more

Okay, so the stuff I said about the food is still true. Great prices, fresh fish, delicious rolls. The plain rolls like the yellowtail roll and albacore roll are a deal because they are cheap and give you great big chunks of fish in them. But I took two stars off because the last two times I was here, they were AGONIZINGLY slow. And by that, I don't mean the food was slow in coming out. I mean, the food was slow in coming out but that is to be expected at sushi places. I meant the servers were super slow and incompetent. I dunno.. maybe it was cause my boyfriend and I sat in the very corner table so perhaps they forgot about us? They took forever to come and get our order. They never brought us our complimentary edamame. They didn't bring my miso soup. They literally brought it all out at once when all the rest of our food came out and I asked them. And I hate when places do that because then food gets cold while you're eating the things that should have been brought out as appetizers. And don't get me wrong, I'm not a bitch who demands perfection in all circumstances. I worked as a server for several years so I know how tough it can be. When the servers are all running around cause the place is crackin and they're trying to get to everybody, I totally am chill and let things slide because it really is hard when you've got like six tables and you're trying to keep everybody's waters filled and bring out their food and blah blah. But when a place is not busy and when I see servers just standing around and looking around as if there is nothing to do when I still have not gotten my food or had my order taken, I am not a happy camper. You can guess what kind of situation we had last night. So yeah, Fish Attack I love you, but your servers seriously need to step it up. read more

When I moved from PB to Clairemont I was really worried that I would be moving away from great sushi. Boy was I wrong. This place is small, a bit difficult to get to, but their sushi is fresh and creative. My man and I ordered the spicy tuna roll, kamikazi roll and the thousand island roll (no rice with a cucumber exterior). All of the rolls were perfect and fresh - great quality fish. We also got the gyoza which was very good. The servers are REAL good. They always make sure you are taken care of and clear plates very quickly when you are finished. I am thrilled beyond belief that my little center of the universe, North Clairemont, has such an awesome Sushi House! I finally ventured in a liitle over a week ago and I am slightly embarassed to admitt that I have been there 3 times since! The first 2 times I went alone and enjoyed sitting at the bar. Michael and Phil made great conversation but only after I had finished eating my delicous choices. I love that they offer a Very Spicy Tuna Roll as that is just the way I love it! The Unagi is so divine that I now order 2. The edamame is perfect. Today I brought my husband, who is not a Sushi eater. I kept my fingers crossed that he would love whatever he orderd and he did! He enjoyed the Chicken Katsu, loved the Miso soup and helped me work on my Hot Kiss Roll. I was so thrilled that he was there with me, enjoying everything that I even let him eat ONE of my Unagi. Love Fish Attack. Been coming here for many years. It's small so sometimes you may have to wait but I think it's worth it. I usually get the Salmon Sashimi. .. Red Dragon Roll and a Hot Kiss roll. Highly recommend all three. Like I said you may have to wait to get seated depending upon when you come so if that Pisses you off don't go. Sushi Fish Attack SD: Clairemont 6pm Wednesday 17th June 2014 Four Stars I have eaten at Fish Attack's Neighbor "Boomerangs" at least 20 times and I have never tried this sushi place. We sat at the bar and ordered from the waiter and not the sushi chef (a policy manner). We got a complimentary fried sushi crab cake which I got all to myself because Fried food = Cross contamination and KatieO is Gluten Free. We ordered Small Sashimi Plate ($22.95): 12 pieces: 4 pieces each of Salmon, Tuna, and Yellowtail. The Salmon was cut into smaller pieces, which were less appealing than the thicker cuts of Ahi and Hamachi. HOwever The fish was of the utmost quality. The Salmon was fatty; the Tuna was dark red; and the Yellowtail was nice pink with white stripes of triglycerides. We also enjoyed a classic rainbow roll. The rice had a nice vinegar taste. The real crab meat was a refreshing change from the usual white fish gluten filled Krab of other places. The Protein Roll had real crab, spicy tuna, and avocado on the inside and Salmon, Yellowtail, Roe, and a Garlic Ponzu on the outside. She and I did not catch that it had Ponzu (Gluten-y) so we ordered another one without sauce. So I got to eat the entire saucy one by myself and that's why I am glad I am not actually allergic to Gluten. Everything was very satisfying: Good Service, Good Food, and a Good Price. read more

This place was very good. I brought my parents and my daughter here in a weekday night. The staff were very friendly who greeted us right away and seated us. There were a lot of sushi options- not much of anything else. So this place is ideal for sushi lovers, if you are any of your friends prefer eating non-sushi Japanese Foods, this place will have limited options. The price of sushi rolls are affordable. The regular rolls are about $4.50 on average with no extra charge for hand rolls. The special rolls are around $11-$12 on average. The beer/draft around $4.50. Everything tasted great. However, the sushi took so much time to be ready. My parents got really upset, and the staff apologized profusely and they gave us free miso soup and edamame, which was appreciated. Blew my mind! We went on a whim, just trying to find a sushi place close to us, and this came up on Yelp. We drove up and almost didn't go in because it seemed like a hole in the wall in a weird area.. but I'm SO glad we went in!!! It was packed and we were greeted, sat down, and was never waiting for someone from the wait staff to come check on us. The service was excellent and the fish was some of the freshest I've tasted in a while. I'd compare it to high end sushi restaurants with a WAY better price. The spicy tuna was the best I've ever had and they also start you off with complimentary edamame. Not to mention happy hour every day! From what was originally going to be a quick sushi run turning into a night with great food and drinks, we were absolutely pleased. I was too excited to even take any pictures of the food! My bestfriend has been telling me to come here for months since they are new and just opened. I finally went last week, and have been there 3 times since...... Darn hootin good (better than my "f" bomb I was bout to drop) They have the freshest fish, and very nice cuts.... better than sushi ono, Japango, and Bay Park fish which are all excellent (also 5 star places), but this is better. I'm craving some as I write this. mmmmmmmm I'm a big fan of yellowtail, and spicy stuff, so I love the "HOT KISS" roll, and the yellowtail and salmon nigiri. The rolls are huge here... 1 and I'm stuffed. The first time I went my friend and I ordered about 4 rolls and nigiri and we were stuffed, but felt oh so good. Their miso soup is very fresh, and their ginger is much better quality. I love the family aspect... Last time I went solo for lunch, a nice guy was sitting next to me and we ended up sharing nigiri while chit chatting with the owners who are fabulous. This is an A+++++ establishment, great sushi. A real surprise of a sushi joint! Wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm so glad I stopped in. The service was good and free edamame was provided immediately. The quality and freshness of the fish was well beyond the usual for places like this, which made the sushi absolutely delicious. I got the fresh salmon roll and a yellowtail maki roll, both I inhaled with delight. Also, if you're like me and love miso soup, the miso here is pretty darn good. I usually don't review on yelp but I wanted to voice my opinion. We came for happy hour and waited for seats because the tables were busy. So we had time to look at the menu. By the time we got seated, it was 5 minutes before happy hour end s. No idea who our waiter is and it takes over ten minutes until our waitress shows up. They then won't allow us happy hour blaming it on us not knowing the system locks them out unless we flag then down to input the order before 530. No customer satisfaction, and they definitely were not friendly. They don't care for customer appreciation either. Don't go here if you're looking for friendly. One of my go-to sushi spots right now. Definitely not a traditional sushi bar, more of an American-interpretation with creative rolls and other menu items. Can't go wrong with most of their specialty rolls, but my favorites include the Hot Kiss Roll and Kamikaze Roll. Service is always great and attentive. Not much of an ambiance (unless you consider a flat screen TV behind the sushi bar as a decor), but the food and service are more than enough to bring in and keep customers coming. My coworkers and I go there so much for lunch that we don't even have to tell the staff to split our bills any more. There is a very small parking lot, which is not ideal but better than no parking at all. Worth checking out if you like American-style rolls and are looking for a casual spot to go with your family or friends. read more

Great place for local sushi. Went based upon other Yelp reviews. The fish was very fresh. They even had yellowtail belly when we went (that's rare premium fish). Loved it. They have a wide selection of rolls. We had the fish attack and the super dragon rolls. Both were super tasty and very filling. The edamame at the beginning was a nice touch as we were starving when we arrived. If you need tamari they have that on hand too. The service was very good. Staff is friendly and helpful. Noise does travel in this small venue. So if you're looking for quiet, this may not be your best option if the place is filled. I'm looking forward to going back for happy hour specials. read more

Reasonably priced. Good quality. Friendly staff. When I heard about this new sushi place near my house, I had to give it a shot. The menu here is very simple: It has your typical PB-style Americanized rolls that are essentially just basic rolls (cali, philly, spicy-tuna, etc.) topped with some kind of fish. They also have a couple shashimi items and boats as well. They do an excellent job with plating and presentation. The quality of fish (although it isn't the freshest in town) is still quite good. The place is quite inconspicuous but has the benefit of being the only sushi place within a couple miles. Although the name screams "super-americanized", the chefs here really know what they are doing and they carry a good selection of saki. The negatives are the small venue (not a great place to take a large party), and the abysmal parking. I hate trying to get into this parking lot and all the awesome diagonal spots are usually taken (Boomerangs is next door). I'm pretty sure the chefs are the owners and they gave us complimentary edamame and shots of a special kind of saki so they definitely won me over on my first visit. I think I just found my go to place for sushi in SD! This place is great. At first, I was a bit thrown off by the name, but was pleasantly surprised with the great service and food. I came here with a couple girlfriends right when they opened for dinner at 430. I'll start from the beginning.. the miso soup was SOOO GOOD! It is unlike any I have ever had at any other sushi restaurant; it had a hint of sweetness which was unexpectedly delicious. But I think the best part of the meal was the chicken teriyaki. While the sushi was good, it tasted like sushi I could get anywhere else, nothing particularly special.For the CT, they actually use good quality chicken; the pieces were thick and plenty with the perfect amount of sauce. The best part of all was that the chicken had actually been marinaded with spices before the teriyaki sauce! A lot of other places feel like they giver you leftover chicken scraps with lots of fat but not here. YOU HAVE TO TRY IT! Overall, GREAT experience!
