This has been my absolute go-to sushi spot in all of LA for the past three years. The chefs and servers are always so welcoming and kind, and honestly, every single item on the menu is consistently delicious. Good ambiance! When they first opened, I loved that it felt like my own little secret spot, but now it gets so packed on the weekends that there's always a wait. Because of that, I usually prefer coming in on weekday evenings. Unwinding here with some drinks and amazing sushi after work is the highlight of my day. Whenever I bring friends along, they always love it just as much!

I've only ever gotten takeout but when coming inside the ambiance is great. The staff is always so kind and welcoming, you can tell the bond they have with regulars and the community is super strong. The service is quick and you can watch them prepare your rolls right in front of you! All of the rolls I've gotten have been great, you can taste the quality of them. Good prices too, definitely recommend!

Soooo amazing! Literally the best sushi spot in seal beach!! Chef is always so friendly and fish is always so fresh!! Very welcoming and inviting! The atmosphere is very clean and fun! Good music playing too! I literally bring all my friends and family here all the time! At this point I'm a regular!

I was really disappointed with my experience this time. The restaurant was a little busy, but our food took much longer than expected. I've been to much busier sushi restaurants and have never had to wait that long. I ordered a Coke that never arrived. For food, I ordered the baked mussels as an appetizer and a tuna avocado roll as my entrée. The baked mussels had barely any meat on them, were dry, and completely lacked flavor. I found myself chewing them for a while because they were so overcooked. The tuna avocado roll took about 15 minutes to come out, and when it did, it was warm, flavorless, and the fish neither looked nor tasted fresh. I sent it back because it just wasn't good. What made the experience even worse was the service. When I explained the issue with my roll, my server kept interrupting me and insisting that "that's how the salmon is supposed to be." I've eaten sushi at plenty of restaurants, including in Japan, and I know what fresh fish should taste and look like. This was not it. When we received the bill, another server asked why we didn't like the rolls. I simply said that the last time I came, the food was definitely better and that the baked mussels were also dry. His response was, "Well, unfortunately we can't take that off the bill." The thing is, nobody was asking for that to be taken off the bill we were simply answering the question he asked. It's unfortunate because my last visit was much better, but after this experience, they've lost a customer.

We are locals that love to try different restaurants around the Seal Beach area. We were very excited to see Sushi Hama open tonight so we decided to give it a try. We ordered the Premium Sashimi special which included 15 pieces of fish with a cucumber salad on the side, 3 pieces of tempura, and a miso soup. I ordered a house salad on the side (I would pass on this next time, dressing was sparse and not very flavorful) and my boyfriend ordered a Blue Crab roll. The blue crab roll was excellent! The quality of the crab was so fresh and the roll was nice and soft, easy to eat. The premium sashimi was served on a special platter and we enjoyed trying a piece each at the same time and reviewing. All the pieces were good quality and melted in our mouths. We didn't care too much for the salmon since we prefer white fish. The scallops were probably our favorite! The place is small and quaint and only opens for dinner (closed Sundays). Very authentic and highly recommend. The service was very friendly and quick. We just would have liked for someone to tell us what type of fish was being served when we were presented with the premium platter. Other than that, very good experience.

    Beef teriyaki--WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
    Felino F.

We started with appetizers, which were decent enough. But everything went downhill after that. I ordered the teriyaki beef, and it was honestly terrible. The waiter never asked how I wanted it cooked, and it came out well done, dry, and with a texture that reminded me of overcooked liver. The sauce did not resemble teriyaki at all. It tasted more like a strange blend of A1 sauce and ketchup. Ironically, my daughter's teriyaki chicken was delicious, so it seems I just ended up with the worst dish on the menu. Unfortunately, the service was not any better. After the food was dropped off, the waiter never checked on us, not once to see if we needed anything, even when it was clear I was not eating much. There was no offer to box up leftovers (not that I wanted that beef), and no apology, alternative, or discount when I mentioned how bad the dish was. Overall, a very disappointing meal and experience.

Absolutely delicious! Super fresh fish, generous portions and a quaint atmosphere. Hama translates to Hippo. And you'll be sure to eat like one when you dine here. My new local goto sushi place. Check it out!

Bluefin Chu Toro Tuna Sushi, Bluefin O Toro Tuna Sushi

I visited again and the quality was just as good as last time-- still amazing. The bluefin tuna otoro and chutoro still melted in my mouth. We also ordered the Baby Langostino Roll, Salmon and sweet shrimp amaebi, and they were still so good. The crispy rice sushi bites were incredibly crunchy -- I love that texture. The garlic seasoning on the edamame was great, and honestly all the ingredients tasted fresh and delicious. My husband loves salmon and believes that if the salmon is good, the sushi place is good -- and this place is the real deal. I hope this place sticks around for a long time. Highly recommended! Can't wait to come back!

If you are around at seal beach area you should try this place. This place is a total hidden gem -- small, family-run vibe with incredibly fresh sushi. Service was friendly and quick. The staff made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. I sat at the sushi bar, and the chef was really nice and even gave me a recommendation that turned out to be amazing. The place itself is cozy and clean, nothing too fancy, but that's part of the charm. Prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. Definitely a go-to spot if you're looking for authentic sushi in the area.

I'm so glad I came back to Hama sushi. Every dish we ordered was super fresh and full of flavor. The sashimi platter was so good. The fish was fresh and buttery. Each piece melted and the light seasoning on top really enhanced the natural flavor without overpowering it. You can truly taste the quality! We ordered several specialty rolls. All of them we ordered had the perfect balance of texture. Unfortunately, we were so excited to eat that I didn't get photos of all the dishes we ordered. But everything that came to the table was great. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive. We felt genuinely welcomed and well taken care of throughout our visit. Great food, great service. I'll definitely be coming back again!

    BAKED MUSSELS

Sushi Hama is honestly the best sushi spot around here. It's my go-to and still my all-time favorite in the area. The fish quality is seriously so good -- super fresh, clean, and just melts in your mouth. You can really tell they care about what they serve. The sashimi is a must. The cuts are thick and generous, and it just hits every time. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole vibe even better. And the portions? So generous. I always leave completely full and happy. It's also the perfect place to grab a glass of sake and just enjoy good food with friends. I've brought so many people here and it has never failed. Everyone ends up loving it. You honestly can't go wrong with anything, but the Langostino Roll is my absolute favorite. If you go, definitely get that -- and don't skip the sashimi. Just try it. You won't regret it. Trust me!!!
