Just moved down to this area, and have been looking for a new sushi spot, this place delivered! We ordered teriyaki beef, edamame, rainbow rolls, blue crab rolls, octopus, and gyoza! My favorite was the edamame and the teriyaki beef which was so tender; and to be honest I think about it everyday. The service was a little slow, but our amazing server Patrick was on it! They had a lot of to go orders, and he managed to take care of us and even cleared edamame off of our bill because of the wait! To my surprise, the three rolls that I had were delicious and fairly priced. I was really disappointed with my experience this time. The restaurant was a little busy, but our food took much longer than expected. I've been to much busier sushi restaurants and have never had to wait that long. I ordered a Coke that never arrived. For food, I ordered the baked mussels as an appetizer and a tuna avocado roll as my entrée. The baked mussels had barely any meat on them, were dry, and completely lacked flavor. I found myself chewing them for a while because they were so overcooked. The tuna avocado roll took about 15 minutes to come out, and when it did, it was warm, flavorless, and the fish neither looked nor tasted fresh. I sent it back because it just wasn't good. What made the experience even worse was the service. When I explained the issue with my roll, my server kept interrupting me and insisting that "that's how the salmon is supposed to be." I've eaten sushi at plenty of restaurants, including in Japan, and I know what fresh fish should taste and look like. This was not it. When we received the bill, another server asked why we didn't like the rolls. I simply said that the last time I came, the food was definitely better and that the baked mussels were also dry. His response was, "Well, unfortunately we can't take that off the bill." The thing is, nobody was asking for that to be taken off the bill we were simply answering the question he asked. It's unfortunate because my last visit was much better, but after this experience, they've lost a customer. read more

We are locals that love to try different restaurants around the Seal Beach area. We were very excited to see Sushi Hama open tonight so we decided to give it a try. We ordered the Premium Sashimi special which included 15 pieces of fish with a cucumber salad on the side, 3 pieces of tempura, and a miso soup. I ordered a house salad on the side (I would pass on this next time, dressing was sparse and not very flavorful) and my boyfriend ordered a Blue Crab roll. The blue crab roll was excellent! The quality of the crab was so fresh and the roll was nice and soft, easy to eat. The premium sashimi was served on a special platter and we enjoyed trying a piece each at the same time and reviewing. All the pieces were good quality and melted in our mouths. We didn't care too much for the salmon since we prefer white fish. The scallops were probably our favorite! The place is small and quaint and only opens for dinner (closed Sundays). Very authentic and highly recommend. The service was very friendly and quick. We just would have liked for someone to tell us what type of fish was being served when we were presented with the premium platter. Other than that, very good experience. read more

This is our go-to in Seal Beach. They seem to be doing well on Main St and that is not easy without extremely high prices or massive crowds, neither of which apply to Sushi Hama. The waiter never asked how I wanted it cooked, and it came out well done, dry, and with a texture that reminded me of overcooked liver. The sauce did not resemble teriyaki at all. It tasted more like a strange blend of A1 sauce and ketchup. Ironically, my daughter's teriyaki chicken was delicious, so it seems I just ended up with the worst dish on the menu. I visited again and the quality was just as good as last time-- still amazing. The bluefin tuna otoro and chutoro still melted in my mouth. Everything tasted fresh and you can tell they put care into what they serve. The Uni Carpaccio was the highlight for me. Let me start by saying I had high hopes for this place. Nice little small spot in middle of seal beach But after we went in it was straight downhill from there. We order 2 appetizers, 4 basic cut rolls Cali/spicy salmon/spicy yellowtail/spicy scallop. And 2 specialty rolls. Also people who sat down after us was getting most of their food before us. And what made it worst is every sushi restaurant I've been too at least has the basic essentials before you order like having wasabi ginger and soy sauce on the table before food comes out. Didn't have any of that we had to ask for it. And when we asked for wasabi and ginger for a table of 4 people. We got wasabi the size of a quarter and like 3 pieces of ginger for all the food we ordered. It felt like when you ask McDonald's for extra sauce and the wasabi and ginger was coming out of their paycheck. Ended up canceling the rest of my order and left. Maybe only time you could eat here is when there's no one else in the restaurant. Probably wouldn't go back even if the food was free it would probably take next business day to receive it read more

The Otoro Tuna really saved the day. At $19 for two pieces, it has to be one of my favorite tuna pieces that I have had thats not from Japan! The setting is small but very modern and new! The service was slow because the staff always had to ask the main manager questions at the front. She was clearly running the show, but they had to ask her for everything, and she even rang us up at the end with the check. It's not the biggest deal, but I heavily disliked my rainbow roll. The fish tasted dried out, and I found plastic from a wrapper on my sushi still! That should have been taken care of before it got sent out.
