I got a seaweed salad for $5.50 and a cherry blossom roll for $13. The cherry blossom roll was half the size with maybe an 8th inch of fish surrounding each piece. The seaweed salad I can eat in two bites was 550 and maybe 6 ounces not going here anymore. We miss you Ken! Greed does not make a restaurant good. read more

Review for takeout - definitely recommend. The presentation was nice and rolls were tasty. They use imitation crab but that's to be expected at the reasonable price points. With that in mind, Sushi Hana is a fantastic value. Good size rolls, lots of protein/fish, tasty sauce and reasonable prices. We ordered 6 rolls for two people. Could have easily just had 4 but we enjoyed leftovers. Anything with Tuna is good. Decor inside felt authentic and super hip compared to the unassuming exterior view. They were not open for dine in a few weeks ago but I want to go back for dine in soon. Definitely great for takeout Sushi and a nice change up to our typical western meals! read more

Sushi in Affton? I wasn't thinking that would be a good thing, but I decided to take the plunge! I like seeing new businesses pop up in my neighborhood, so I wanted to give them a chance. So glad I did! Wow! Talk about exceeding my expectations! Sushi Hana has a small window front on Gravois Ave. and a small parking lot located in front of the business. You could easily drive past it, but look for the lime green paint on the building. Once you enter, you are greeted immediately by friendly staff that take you to your seat. Near the front entrance is a small sushi bar. If you are in a hurry this is probably not the place to go. This sushi chef is a true artist and takes his time creating decadent rolls. Trust me, they are worth the wait! There are a few seats at the sushi bar if you want a front row seat to the creative process. Attention to detail is definitely the theme here even down to the dining area and decorative table settings. The restaurant is very clean with several booths and tables. There is also one long table for larger groups. Now onto the food! The sushi is fresh, flavorful and melts in your mouth. The rice texture is perfect. They have a wide array of sushi choices all with delicious combinations and several specialty rolls. If sushi is not your thing they also have several equally amazing alternatives on their menu. The one I have tried twice and highly recommend is the bibimbap. Wow, so delicious! This is in a very large bowl, usually plenty to take home and have for a second meal. It is topped with a large fried egg and amazing, spicy sauce. You can tell they put a lot of passion into their food. There is a small selection of beer, wine, and sake. You can also order bottles of wine. Another thing to mention is the pricing. You get exceptional food with attention to detail and large portions for a reasonable price. Tried this due to all the rave reviews. Parking was insanely dangerous. Inside it could use a few updates. We ordered a lobster roll, shrimp tempura, California roll, and crab Rangoon. Everything was rather flavorless. Not enough eel sauce. And just overall bland. Server was also kind of rude when I didn't know a sushi fact. He also only came by our table only a couple times. I live in super south city, so when a sushi place opens less than 10 minutes from my house, I knew I needed to get there! Located along busy Gravois. There are about 5 parking spots located directly in front of the building, but there appears to be a small driveway that leads between two businesses opening to a parking lot. The restaurant is run by mom, dad, and daughter (at least, these were the only 3 people working when we dined in). Dad was the sushi chef, mom and daughter were servers/kitchen prep. We ordered 3 rolls and the tempura udon. The udon noodles are thick and cooked to perfection. The tempura (shrimp, sweet potato, green beans, carrots) is served on the side. So excited to have Sushi Hana in Affton! What an awesome little place! Very nicely decorated with comfortable seating and amazingly clean- even the bathrooms. The food was delicious! Lots of Japanese choices. We dined on steamed edamame- lightly salted and not mushy, crab Rangoon- delicious, creamy filling with crunchy outside, udon noodles with chicken- the dish was very large and nicely seasoned and then we each choose a hand cut roll. I got spicy tuna, my friend tempura California. My roll was spicy! I would probably go for the regular tuna roll when I go back. My friend's roll was yummy- crunchy and creamy with avocado, cream cheese and crab. The restaurant has an extensive drink menu and desserts. I am thankful for Sushi Hana's existence in general, but especially in the Affton area where international food is few and far between. The restaurant is clean and decor is tasteful. Even though it got a little busy at the restaurant, the server still did an excellent job making sure I don't get parched while eating. She was very attentive and friendly throughout. I had the chicken gyoza and tempura udon noodle soup. The gyoza were soft and moist, containing the perfect amount of filling. I loved the dashi broth in the udon noodle soup - it was light and the flavors are not too overpowering. I like that the shrimp and vegetable tempura came on the side instead of inside the noodle soup to prevent sogginess. The portions are just right. Went into it a little nervous because it looked a little ghetto like it MIGHT have roaches but it was R.O.A.C.H.L.E.S.S. It did take a couple rounds to be sure she heard me right but when I picked up my food it was 100% right + she apologized profousely which was unnecessary. I cannot overstate the deliciousness of the miso ginger salad dressing on the house salad. I found the sushi rolls to be very high quality, max fish and minimal rice with fresh ingredients. Four and a half stars! This place is awesome and only 10 minutes from my house, which means it's going in my rotation of good sushi options. The service is great! Our server was attentive, helpful with suggestions, and friendly. Since it was a dinner date without our kiddos, my spouse and I went all out with a sushi boat. We got the medium, which came with 8 pieces of nigiri (the chef chooses which ones) and 5 rolls. It was more than enough for both of us and we were both very full at the end. My favorite was the rainbow roll - crab and cucumber topped with slices of fish. I also enjoyed the yummy roll (though I wish it didn't have cream cheese). Innocuous little place sitting right on Gravois, and I mean RIGHT ON Gravois. Parking is a little tricky, especially if they are crowded. It's pretty small on the inside, but it's cute and very clean. *Prices were worth the quality and amount of food we got and are comparable to most every day type of sushi places. We had 6 sushi rolls (fried California, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, vegetable, salmon avocado, and Philly), a salad, and miso soup, and it came to $44. Of note- they don't have fountain soda, just soda in a bottle. The sushi was fresh and quite tasty. Bonus points for the Instagram-worthy presentation. *Loved the little extras- cushions on the wooden booth seats, cloth napkins, real chopsticks (not that disposable crap that you have to rub the splinters out of before you even use them), and a big slice of pineapple decoratively cut into pieces with your check. It's the little extras that go along way. *Service was terrific: friendly, prompt, and we never waited for water refills. There were probably 5 tables with people, and just one server, but she handled it well. This was our first time here, but we'll definitely add it to the rotation of places to eat when we go out. Listen, I'm hesitant to post a review because I selfishly don't want other people to find out about this hidden gem. But here I go... Sushi Hana is the best sushi in the stl area. The salmon skin roll is crispy and delicious, paired with the hot sake and you've got a one way ticket to heaven. They've got something for everyone: if you're not a sushi person they have a variety of fried rice dishes and noodles. We love Sushi Hana, and I'm currently tipsy off of two bottles of sake, but if I could, I'd marry it. I'd marry this restaurant. Don't tell my irl husband. read more

A diamond in the rough, when our neighborhood joint was slammed. And maybe that was a good thing. We might never go back to the old place - Sushi Hana is our new STL south city sushi home! Typically I would have seen "Affton" and ignored this as a possible sushi place when looking for alternatives to places like Cafe Mochi on South Grand, but second glance it shows only 12 minutes away - probably an hour less waiting than the other place! It was worth the short drive. The rolls and nigiri were immaculate, with quality and freshness rivaling coastal favorites of mine, even the rice was perfect. And there were only 2 other parties in the quaint dining room. And the prices were beyond reasonable, especially for the amazing quality. This is a family run business, so no issues with struggling to find waitstaff and help - it's all in the family. So support them and get a boat! My girlfriend and I just moved into a new house nearby, and I was a little bummed about losing proximity to some of our favorite hangouts and was surprised at how well rated Sushi Hana was when it came up while searching for a dinner spot last night. The actual restaurant itself is an unassuming place on the outside with very charming decor on the inside. We ordered takeout, so I didn't get a chance to experience the ambiance, but for seating it looked like there was a table or two, the sushi bar area (3-4 seats), and about 6 booths. We ordered 3 rolls and an order of Beef Udon to split and everything was amazing. Very fresh and well-presented -- as well-presented as you can make a takeout order. The food was so good that I actually went back today and ordered a Chicken Katsu lunchbox which was also incredible. Overall I cannot recommend Sushi Hana enough, and I'm now very excited to have a new favorite restaurant right next door! read more

I came back to Sushi Hana for lunch today so I could try the sushi offerings. Once again, the staff was incredibly friendly! After going over the menu, I decided to try the Caterpillar Roll and Shrimp Tempura Roll while my husband ordered a Tiger Roll and Cherry Blossom Roll. When the rolls arrived to the table I was BLOWN AWAY by the presentation! The four rolls were beautifully presented on a bamboo bridge, but the amazing beauty of it all was the artistically crafted Caterpillar Roll, which looked like an actual adorable caterpillar with sprouts for antenna and two fish eggs as eyes! The Cherry Blossom Roll has been cut and placed in the shape of a blossom, and the Tiger Roll had a cute plastic and sliced pickled ginger garnish head! I have NEVER had this much attention to detail put into any sushi I've ordered before. It was incredible! After gawking at how magnificent my sushi looked, I finally got around to getting some in between my chop sticks and taking a taste. The Caterpillar Roll was incredibly delicious with sweet crab meat (not imitation) inside and fresh avocado sliced on top with a spicy mayo. The Tiger and Cherry Blossom Rolls both had as-fresh-as-you-get-in-the-Midwest tuna and salmon. And like most Shrimp Tempura Rolls, the tempura was nice and crispy with sweet shrimp. The complimentary pineapple at the end was a sweet and refreshing finish to the sushi. Overall, once again I had an A-MAZING meal at Sushi Hana. Sushi Hana is such a gem! Tried it for the first time last night and both my husband and I were very, very satisfied. We've eaten a lot of sushi in our time, and this place was excellent, at the top of our list! I had the server, Justin, choose some rolls for me since we were new, and his selection did not disappoint! He was VERY knowledgeable, super friendly, and attentive to our needs. You can tell he really knows his stuff. Hands down one of best servers I've ever encountered in general, ever. Would recommend visiting just to see him, honestly! Aside from the rolls, we also had some miso soup and a side salad. The miso was great and the salad dressing was incredible. All of those dressings kind of taste the same sushi restaurant to sushi restaurant, but this one was different and oh-so-good. I seriously want a bottle of it for my house! I've been going here for a couple of years and have never been disappointed. The food is delicious and the staff is always very kind and attentive. Since the onset of covid they have only moved up in my book as they were some of the first to require masks and restrict service to carry-out. Call in your order ahead of time, go inside to pay upon arrival, and if it's not ready they will bring your food out to you in your car. While you are paying, the cashier is behind a plexiglass wall with a cutout for passing payment. They will take your card and hand you an ink pen that has been wiped down with disinfectant for you to sign the receipt. It's a great system for our current environment...and the fact that the sushi is some of the best in town makes it even better! read more
