The ambiance was awesome. Such a cool, clean vibe. I love the concept. Its something new that we've never seen and it was so fun! They also offer menu items other than sushi that is brought out by little train like robots. The food was fresh and delicious. They had a whole drink menu. But only offer wine and sake at this time. So I feel like these should be removed until available. Our server was very kind and attentive. Give them a try. Its very unique!

I was really excited when I heard St. Louis was getting a revolving sushi place, so I went on opening day. Since that fist visit was a bit chaotic and there were many kinks to workout, I decided to give them another chance, weeks later, before sharing my thoughts. Positives: * It's a good spot to grab a quick bite and leave when you're done. * Great for solo diners, if you're okay eating alone. * Servers were very kind * The sushi was decent * The tablet is a good idea to have when the need to order extras or order kitchen items * Description of how much each plate costs located by your seat * Cool robot that drops your food off if you order any food from the tablet Negatives: * The tablet doesn't help when it's time to pay and separate checks is either impossible or takes forever. They really need to figure this out. It wasn't really a negative, but a bit frustrating. * The fried chicken we got was cold, stale, and dry. * The sushi prices are slightly higher than Chicago, but about the same prices as California. If you like rolls more, prices aren't too bad. * The workers were nice, but they definitely could use a bit more training (non-existent after dropping our drinks off). Great concept! Fun! Place is clean and bright. Parking in the back of the building. Street parking up front.

This was a really fun experience! The sushi was very reasonably priced and picking it up from the conveyor was very entertaining. The salad was only ok and they do not serve alcohol, so couldn't do 5 stars but overall it was interesting and I would go back

We finally got to try Sakatanoya while we had family in town. I was able to get a reservation for 10 people but when we arrived they said there are no large tables but they sat us in two that were side by side which was fine. They explained the process to us and we got rolling. They had some good variety on the belt and the sushi was pretty good. Anything we didn't see came quickly when ordered from the tablets. I have been to other revolving sushi restaurants and this one was the most expensive per plate to be honest. With that in mind this will be more of a special night out than a regular hang but we will definitely be back.

While not the best sushi I have ever had, the experience here was fun! Went here with my husband on Saturday night. We had a reservation so we were seated quickly. Not long after being seated, we were given a rundown of how this place works, chopsticks, wasabi, ginger and a container for soy sauce. I have been to a conveyer belt sushi place before, but never seen a conveyer belt that long. Also really liked the serving robots that bring the items ordered from the menu! Food goes around and you pick up what you want. There is a sign that goes around telling you what it is and a place to deposit used plates. Plates are charged by the color they are and you can see the bill as you eat. We ordered one roll off of the menu and got the rest from the conveyer belt. In hindsight, I wouldn't have ordered the roll because the stuff on the belt is smaller quantities of the stuff on the menu. Restaurant is clean and has several booths mostly for 2 but has larger ones as well. Overall quiet enough to have a conversation in there too! I wish you could pay the bill on the digital menu instead of having to call someone over, but maybe they will add that option in time. I will go back just for the fun of seeing the sushi on the belt!!!

We went here last weekend with the kids. The sushi was decent. The quality was similar to other ordering sushi places around the area. The sushi rolls and uni that we ordered arrived in a decent timeframe. The service was decent. There were plenty of tables.

Having recently visited Japan, I was thrilled to hear we were getting a revolving sushi restaraunt in STL. It's worth noting that this is definitely more on the pricey side for certain items. Be prepared - the cost can stack up pretty quickly depending on the number of plates you grab from the conveyor belt, or from the dishes you choose to order on the tablet. As far as the food, I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of fish that was included in our rolls and nigiri. There was less "filler" and more fish, which I enjoyed. The Cardinals Roll and Bootylicious Roll were two of our favorites. You also can't go wrong with the Spicy Tuna, as it's simple but delicious. Would recommend starting off with the miso soup as well. We went around 8 pm on a Monday so the conveyor belts were starting to look a little bare. However, we mostly ordered off of the tablet anyway so it all worked out. Overall, since Sakatanoya just opened up, I'd anticipate some changes & hopefully some additions to the menu once they are more established. It would be nice to see more sushi & nigiri options offered, as well as desserts added to the menu.

We loved the overall experience and food at Sakatanoya! We had a very knowledgeable and attentive server, Angela! You can pick up a variety of rolls and nigiri from the conveyor belt or order more specific items from the kitchen. If you aren't a raw fish fan they have many others things to choose from. 5/5 would recommend for something different and delicious!

Cool and unique concept. I was excited for St Louis to have its first ever conveyor belt sushi. However, right off the bat I can tell you that this place is not really worth the price. I ordered a few things off of the menu and while they were good in general, it was not anything too special. I don't recommend ordering the scallops, they were actually fishy. There are 4 color-coded plates corresponding to the 4 different prices but honestly I didn't see too many variety on the conveyor belt. The entire time, there were just 2 types of color going around. I feel like if they had more variety for the stuff on the conveyor belt it would have been a little better. This place is kinda pricey for the quality. You can go to a AYCE sushi rolls and you would get the same quality.

Food was great. Place was well decorated for Valentines Day. They took reservations for the special night. Waitress has to be hailed via the iPad. The only caution is to be mindful of paying your bill and ask for a receipt. Our bill went from $82 to over $115 with taxes, gratuity and fees. All in all it was a great place for a double date where we shared and tried all kinds of new items I did not photograph.

I wanted to treat my boyfriend to a fun meal for his birthday, and he's a big fan of sushi so we decided on Sakatanoya. The experience itself was as fun as expected- we tried a lot of different sushi off the conveyor belt. We also ordered some dishes that got delivered both by a track above the conveyor belt and by a robot that moves freely around the whole restaurant. It's gimmicky, sure, but unique enough to stand out in St. Louis. The human servers (that phrase does seem a bit dystopian to type) mostly just handle drinks and the check, but ours did check in on us a lot during our meal, which was appreciated. It's a clean looking space, and we got seated at a large table/booth, which was necessary for the amount of dishes we had. The sushi itself was just average (according to my sushi expert boyfriend). I did like the chicken katsu, and the curry sauce complimented it nicely, but there was way too much sauce. The tornado shrimp tempura were tasty and not something I've seen anywhere else.

I went with a group of 5 a few days after the second soft opening and we were shocked at how great it was! It's much more of a modern exposed open-concept layout compared to other conveyor sushi spots in the country (ie Kura). We were shocked at how genuinely delicious the sushi was! All of the food actually, including the cake The staff seemed a bit nervous/new but I'm sure with time and experience they'll gain confidence! They did not have the "prize" concept available at all though, the party with kids behind was us pretty let down. Assuming they can work that out, it's worth a visit!

Overpriced food and subpar experience overall, I want to hype this place up, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Reservation was very easy online, and my friends and I were seated immediately for our reservation time. What surprised me was how bare the conveyor belts were. Maybe because I've had several revolving sushi experiences outside of St. Louis, I have something to compare to, but over and over again, the belts were sparse. Their tablet menu is also disappointing. They have various non-sushi items, but nothing really stuck out to me. Let me repeat, their prices are incredibly high. I had three plates off the belt and paid close to $30 including tip. Only reason I gave this place three stars was that the taste overall was good.

When we pulled up, there was a line but it moved quicker than we thought. Once we got inside, we were both surprised at how small it was. While I've yet to go to Japan, it def gives off the vibe strictly from ambiance and the decor. It's small but intimate and offers seats at the "bar", as well as communal seating. We didn't get a choice and were sat at the bar. Ordering is done through the QR code and water is offered self-serve. We split an order of the appetizers: house cucumbers and karaage. I'm not a huge cucumber fan but I tried it. I preferred the one with miso as I found it to be more subtle in taste. The chicken was average and didn't wow me. We each got the chicken shoyu with no pork, no scallions and an extra egg. It felt like it took a long time to get our food. We were both surprised once we got it as we were expecting actual chicken pieces but after rereading the menu description, it was chicken oil. He was a bit disappointed as both our dishes were covered in scallions. I suggested we not send it back since it took quite a while to get our food and they were close to closing. Nevertheless, I found the broth to be tasty and full of flavor despite there being no meat. Overall, it was a solid first visit.

Once inside, I was directed to a table in the corner. The service was prompt, and we received our orders quickly. A younger gentleman approached us and seemed a bit confused when I asked about the drink menu. We were looking for sake, and they had a decent selection of both wine and sake, but nothing particularly exciting. We decided to try the Hana white peach sake, which was a pleasant surprise. The food menus were in a state of disrepair, with staples holding them together. We started with some appetizers, including pork gyoza, crab rangoon, and spicy edamame. The pork gyoza was delicious, but the crab rangoon was quite crunchy and flakey with not much flavor. The spicy edamame tasted like it had been soaked in Franks' Hot sauce or Sriracha sauce, which I wasn't a fan of. I wish I had ordered them regular instead. For sushi, I opted for a shrimp tempura roll and a rainbow roll, both of which satisfied my craving. Overall, it was a decent experience for the price, but nothing stands out that would bring me back again and again like other places. I might come back and try the ramen and see if that changes my mind.

Some rolls are half off and so are a few beverages, like hot sake. I had never had hot sake. I've only had any sake once. I liked it fine, but I didn't want a second order after I finished the first. I was disappointed that Robata was out of plum wine. Instead I ordered what was described as a white sangria, but it tasted more like a brandy. I had a few sips and gave it to my friend. I had 4 vegetarian sushi rolls. Only the asparagus was included with happy hour. My 3 other rolls were takuan, pickle plum and BB. As much as I like plum (keep reading), and takuan was a pleasant surprise, and the asparagus was good, the BB, which has tempura asparagus, cream cheese, and sweet soy, was my favorite item of the evening. I was happy to see umeboshi onigiri on the lengthy menu. These were of a good size, but I think it perhaps would have benefitted from a higher pickled plum to rice ratio. (The only time I've had it has been from a food truck and I don't know how representative it is of onigiri.) Each order of food took a while to come out. My friend had trouble getting the server's attention when she wanted to put in more orders. Robata is not a place for a quick happy hour bite. It's going to take a while, especially if you're ordering in multiple rounds like we did. When the kitchen got too busy, my order another roll was denied. That happened well before dinner service ended and it was disappointing. I would have waited a bit longer. But it was probably good to get cut off from sushi at some point. We were a little confused by the bills. My friend may have overpaid (not gotten happy hour price) for some of her items, and there was some question about whether mine had been billed correctly, but in the end we decided that mine was probably correct. Hers, though... we aren't sure. I think I'll return to Robata for the BB roll, plum wine, and maybe something new, but I will be sure to have plenty of time, order a bunch all at once, and check the bill.
