Food: 5 stars Service: 2.5 stars I popped in for dinner after doing some shopping by at the mall across the street. They share the same front building door with the spa on the second floor. The servers were not friendly-- which I get we sometimes don't have a good day, but a small (even fake) smile when customers walk in is expected. They didn't have small bottle of soy sauce on my table when I was seated, nor did they give me one, so I had to take it from the empty table next to me. I ordered a salmon and avocado roll, and a (I forget the name of the other one, but it was of the specialty sushi menu and it has spicy tuna), and both came out to around $22. The sushi is fresh and of good quality. Definitely worth coming here for the food. The prices are pretty on par with other places I've been to. Worth hitting up if you're in the area.
I came here as it was on the way to the mall. I wasn't craving sushi, so I looked at their menu before to see what else they served. They have lunch specials but not for a weekend. I went on a sunday so it didn't apply. They were quite busy, so I had to wait a bit. It's a no frills place to eat at. They have seating indoors by the sushi bar, and there are booths, too. Food wise, I got the Lychee Thai ice tea to drink. It is the same taste as a regular Thai ice tea except lychee inside of it and no condensed milk. My friend got the bento box with salmon as the main entree. I ordered the Nabayaki udon, which has chicken in it. The soup was a bit bland. I had to ask for hot sauce. I probably won't be back as I wasn't too happy with the service and the food.
The food tasted like a rare cases of diseases. It was so disgusting that I told the employee that this is disgusting. The employee then kicked me out of the restaurant because I said that the food tasted horrible. I will never go back to this restaurant again while the place looked dirty and smelled like rat poop. That's when I notice that while I was on my way home. I saw rats, I'm not even joking, right in front of my eyes, and then they decided to hide the window so that I can see their pet rats spreading disease. I'm very disappointed of the health inspector to keep the place open.
Friday night so it kinda busy, but people were in and out so I was able to sit in a booth with my date. They were playing Kanye West classics so that was nice as we waited for our food. It came out promptly, I don't believe wait time is ever a problem here. First time getting the fire fire fire and I would order again I was so full from all the pieces of sushi stuffed with crab and seaweed salad. I enjoyed my new pick! My boyfriend got his usual tempura California roll but I can't write a review on that because I am allergic to avocado! Thank you guys for an awesome fulFILLing FriYay night, keep up the great work!
Sushi Island, with its location near Queens Central Mall, is always in view. I went back there recently years later and it's as if nothing changed. The Volcano Roll is basically a sushi mountain - loaded with toppings. If you're into generous portions, try this. Ordered a couple of my go-to rolls as well, and they hit the mark. The menu has a good variety without being overwhelming, which is a plus for me. With normal what-you-would-expect food, what sets Sushi Island apart is the pricing. Great value for the quantity you get. You're not breaking the bank for a satisfying sushi meal. The vibe is casual, service is solid, and it's a good place to grab some reliable sushi without any fuss. The only reason I took off a star is because the service could be a little better, especially when the spot is busy. Nonetheless, if you find yourself in this part of Queens and are in the mood for casual well-priced sushi with ample portions, this will cover your needs.
Overall a solid place for sushi. We ordered 6 rolls to go. 2x Eel Avocado 1x Salmon Roll 1x Spicy Crab 1x Bali Roll 1x Salmon Tempura Roll This was more than enough food for two people. The eel avocado had a good ratio of eel to avocado. Some places have too much avocado which I do not like. The salmon tempura roll had cooked salmon, I wasn't really a fan. The cooked salmon was a bit dry. I probably would not order that again in the future. I would recommend to ask for spicy mayo when you order to go. I forgot and I believe that would've made the meal a bit better.
Great place for relatively cheap but good quality sushi. They are on Uber eats, but dine in will taste much better than delivery. We came in on a Thursday for lunch. The restaurant was quite empty and I can smell a horrible spoiled fish smell in the background which made me think twice of staying. We decided to stay and give them the benefit of the doubt. We had to change tables three times since the booth tables were wobbly and they're not doing anything about it. We made our orders and as soon as I mentioned avocado shake, the server had this concerned look on her face, but did not inform me what her predicament was. The avocado shake does not taste like avocado at all. It's watered down, full of large broken icecube pieces, and tastes absolutely bland and bitter. Moving to the food--the takoyaki was extremely mushy inside, with not enough sauce to accompany it. The sushi rolls looks pale and unappetizing, but thankfully it did not make us feel sick. My wife ordered the teriyaki bento because she cannot have sushi due to pregnancy. Which I profusely informed the server, but we were served with medium rare teriyaki, that has a spoiled beef smell. Absolutely unacceptable.
This is hands down one of my favorite sushi restaurants ever. Their rolls are always super fresh and the prices are great! This spot is always bustling and is a local favorite. There is great variety in terms of the rolls available and the menu itself is expansive, and includes dishes other than sushi. If you're in the area, I highly recommend popping in for a bite.
I order from this place often but I'm going to do so much less now. Not really worth it when you really look at the product. If I order a specialty roll/sushi etc I expect there to be fish. Food might taste good but it's not worth the price if it's almost all filler, there's even rice packed inside the seaweed of the rolls now. Huge quality drop from when I started ordering years ago. Can't be more than 2oz of salmon the whole roll. Same maybe worse months later, even worst now 7/25
So far every order I placed on Uber Eats with them has been great! Food is reasonable priced and yummy as well. Was able have time to write a review for them finally. Presentation was better this time because of the size of the order for the Sashimi pieces. They you for being our Go To Japanese take out restaurant on Christmas Day! Merry Xmas!!!

Terrible quality! I had a few spicy rolls and it was filled with stale oily crunch flakes and so little fish, it tasted awful, imagine a panko flake roll! This is the first time in my life i threw out sushi, i could not force myself to eat this fake sushi. read more

Sushi island is my go to spot for sushi. The service here is quick, Got the coconut shrimp and was amazed crunchy coconut shrimp came with a sweet and sour sauce which gave it a better taste. Tempuras are my favorite here chicken and shrimp are always crunchy and come with 5 in a roll. Basic California rolls and suggest if you're into spicy to get the spicy crab with crunch to give your meal an extra kick. I always get the fried ice cream for something sweet at the end. Crunchy and warm on the outside cold and sweet in the inside. read more

I feel so bad for the big koi fish they have here.. It's in a tiny tank and its tail grew deformed due to the tiny space! It has a hard time turning around. Does ASPCA care about fish? Also I stepped in here forgetting about my past experiences. Next time I have to remember to not come in. They made my spicy salmon look like vomit, all squished and deformed. I sent it back and the sushi chef threw a mini fit. Don't make my sushi disgusting and inedible. How did they even have the nerve to put it on my table ??!!! I've been ordering from this place for a long time always like their sushi and avocado shakes. Found a big piece of plastic right on top of my stir fried yaki udon noodles. I ordered through Uber eats and was told by a person on the phone they would refund me. I've been checking 1-2 days later and still I haven't received my money back. I probably won't be ordering from you guys in awhile very disappointed. I work in restaurants myself so I'm partially understanding but the plastic was right on top of the food like how could you not see that before sending it out... let alone cooking my food In the plastic. Your cooks need to get checked. read more
This place has fresh and yummy sushi! Very decently priced and good customer service during to go order during times of covid. Love that they have so many vegetarian friendly options. The Thai peanut avocado and tofu skin avocado and mushroom options were my favorites! Each were so unique and flavorful. read more
This is a nice little thai and japanese place near the Queens Mall. We were craving for sushi near this area so this was one of the two choices, so we went in. The tables are crowded a little too close to each other. Green tea was served and they took our order. I got the bento box with salmon teriyaki for about $9 and ISLAND Sashimi Deluxe which includes 15 pieces of sashimi. I also got a signature roll - Caribbean $11 which consists of deep fried kani, eel, avocado, asparagus, shrimp w/ tobiko. Nothing specular but it was a nice little cozy place to sit down to eat and catch up. read more

Feels like I just got scammed out of my money. Ordered the shrimp mango, eel avocado and spicy salmon. Shrimp mango- the teeeniest bit of shrimp can be found in the roll but you mostly just taste the mango. Eel avocado- same story here barely any eel and is overpowered by the avocado Spicy salmon- huge rip off!! Half the spicy tuna is actually crunch inside and you could tell from the texture. Also the shumai was gummy and tasteless. Highly don't recommend!! Please don't come here the rolls were $3.5-4 really not worth it! read more

My favorite sushi place is now serving food outdoor. This is a great place if your not trying to spend too much money. The Food is great! We had a cold saki that was amazing. Service is good. The rock shrimp tempura is so so so good. Love this place! read more
Fluke, bass, ikura, eel sashimi and nigiri were good. Salmon, tuna, mackerel, and yellowtail were ok. The regular rolls of tuna and yellowtail with jalapeño were way too spicy with the jalapeños slivered coursely and not thinly and super crunchy- bummer. In contrast, the spicy white tuna roll was really good. Perfectly portioned, crunchy, spicy and flavorful. The hand rolls were generous with course salmon skin and heavy on eel sauce which I can't really complain about. But the Rainbow roll was the real bummer. Essentially a giant California roll fattened with gummy white rice and slabbed on a few sparse thin pieces of generic fish and avocado. Seriously a joke of a rainbow roll. The delivery service was super quick and while we did get bang for our buck, we really have to ask- did we? when we are served questionable fish and gummy rice. I, for one am not ambitious enough to further this investigation. read more

I was craving sushi for lunch, so I ordered delivery from here. Everything was so yummy and fresh. I especially liked their Kani salad, which they serve on top of three fried wonton skins. The only issue was that the wonton was a bit soggy by the time I received my order. Best to ask them to wrap this separately. read more

First thing I'm gonna say is don't get overwhelmed when you get in, the placed is packed with boxes, unused tables and chairs. They have indoor dining but I guessed they're not prepared to open after covid. But we're here for the food not for some instagram worthy dining so I'm good. The food is 3.5/5 its good but not really special. Good thing they follow to check vaccine card for indoor dining unlike other restaurant. read more

This place was really worth the while. Due to Covid-19 I haven't been able to indulge in my favorite food which is ofc SUSHI! since March 8th and that's ended after I found Sushi Island. The prices are reasonable and the food is fresh and worth it. Many other sushi joints are charging a arm and a leg for mediocre food. I got a salmon avacado roll, spicy tuna roll, California roll and the scallop a la carte aswell as other assorted fish for only $1.00, How crazy is that? I hope there are sushi lovers that take advantage of this place during this tumultuous times. I'm giving this 4 stars because although the sushi was great the pickled ginger did not taste fresh as it should be. read more

Hi, I have to say I really like their sushi choice, kitchen entree, especially Kani Salad, it's almost never disappointed. However, last night it was one of those moment. Ordering from uberEats, pretty good timing, around 8 almost 9PM because they close at 9:30. Ordered a Bentobox and some ice cream and what I got is truly disappointing. I have ordered from Sushi Island a lot, so i'm very familiar with their products. What I got from my BentoBox was in a bento lunch box, very small portion of Salmon, the ice cream was pretty much melted, I get it maybe because it's a delivery, but I know this is not only because of temperature but because it's old. If you see older pictures of others' order , it's totally different. So, that was very disappointing. I'm not sure if they just start lacking in being consistent or was it just because it was late? Though it wasn't late because I ordered 30-45 mins before they're closing. So, you decide. Below are the pictures I have attached. read more

Recently had the Katsu chicken special with teriyaki sauce on the side. Really good. Also ordered both the Thai ice tea and lychee Thai iced tea. The lychee was surprisingly delicious glad I decided to order it anyway. It has actual lychee fruit in it. Good food, fast service. I will be ordering again. read more

We came here for lunch on a weekday and there were not many people around. The decor is very plain too and not really a place to impress a date. However, this place offers more than just sushi. Yes, most people do come for the cheap sushi, but you can also get any Japanese dish (ramen, tempura, udon, etc.) and several Thai dishes here too. We found that the selections we had from both cuisines were delicious with good portion sizes and very good prices. The Mango Spice entree was especially flavorful. This is a definite recommend for me. read more

I have to admit...I am not a picky eater. All I ask is for some good food, a clean place, good customer service, and reasonable price...I mean is that too much to ask for? Apparently, yes, yes it is. Luckily, Sushi Island has satisfied me in all these areas! I have been going there since 2005 and I have not been disappointed once - there has to be a Guinness Record for that kind of satisfaction! I mean look at the pictures!!! They speak for themselves :) Recommendations: Rock shrimp for appetizers - you wont find anything like this anywhere else I promise you! Caribbean Roll (I think) is what I have pics of and it's as delicious as it looks! Skip the dragon and fire fire fire roll here - not a big fan. Some great Thai selections. Fried Cheesecake is so original and totally worth saving a tiny section of your stomach for. Best dessert ever! read more

Received this order from Ubereats and the miso soup arrived hot and sushi fresh! It was also Christmas Day but it arrived in a timely fashion. I got the shrimp tempura, salmon and avocado, and eel and cucumber. Everything was delish and I'm definitely ordering again! read more
Sushi island is not what it used to be! I came here after so long and the quality of food and service went down but the prices went up! It offers Thai and Japanese cuisine but its portions have gotten a lot smaller. I'm slightly disappointed of my visit and would probably not come back anytime soon! read more

There's not too many Japanese sushi places in the area. So we went to try this place. Their sign said $1 sushi or sashimi which is what caught our attention. But once you take a look at the menu not everything is $1, which is understandable. It was pretty crowded but they found a table to accommodate our party of 5 and a baby quickly. There service was ok. What I didn't enjoy from this place is that the salmon sashimi we ordered was still frozen. I have sensitive teeth so I did not appreciate that. Plus is not tasty that way. You can't taste the fish properly if it's frozen. Very disappointed. read more

THIS PLACE IS EXTREMELY UNHYGIENIC AND DIRTY!!!! We ordered several rolls of sushi and everything was perfect in the beginning... until we ordered desert, one green tea fried ice cream and one vanilla fried ice cream. We were eating the ice cream until my sister bit into a piece of broccoli that was smack in the middle of the inside of the ice cream. We called over the waitress and she said that all of the food and ice cream are made on one skillet, meaning the sushi and the deserts are cooked in the same pan (raw fish and desert are made in the same place, meaning they're mixed together gross). Things took an even worse turn when we discovered a bug in our green tea fried ice cream! We called over the waitress once again and she didn't do anything about it! They said that they can't apply any sort of discount, but after us saying how we've become so nauseous, they took the vanilla fried ice creams charge off our tab... even though there was a bug in the other one. PLEASE DON'T GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANNA EAT DESERT THATS MIXED WITH BROCCOLI AND A BUG!!! we still paid the bill that came up to $40 because we just wanted to get out of there! read more

Was going to go to another sushi spot, but it was too packed so I settled with Sushi Island. There was no wait here and we got seated at the table we liked so that was nice. I came here with my brother the other night and we ordered a couple things on the menu. We got 6 regular rolls and 1 special roll. The special roll we ordered was the Hawaiian roll which consists of Eel, mango w/ spicy crunchy salmon and tobiko. I thought that roll was pretty good. For the regular rolls, I had the spicy salmon, salmon avocado, and eel avocado. The eel avocado barely had any eel in it and salmon in the salmon avocado did not taste fresh. I thought the rolls were average. It's a really inexpensive sushi spot, so you get what you paid for. All the rolls range from $3-$5ish per roll and the special rolls are $9-$13ish. When we first ordered, the lady repeated back our order to us but still manage to miss a roll when we got our order. read more

This is a great place if you're hanging around the area and craving sushi, most of the rolls are pretty cheap in comparison to other places I've been to. The service was quick and friendly and the sushi itself wasn't compromised despite the low price. I left that place full and satisfied! I ordered the Tricolor sushi platter, a salmon hand roll, and the thai iced tea (THE BEST THING I'VE EVER TASTED IN MY LIFE PLEASE TRY IT). read more
