My wife and I had a taste for sushi for lunch but wanted to try something new rather than our usual suspects. We did a quick search of the area and found Sushi Junki. We were a bit skeptical since we had't heard much about it (frankly, we hadn't even heard of it at all). But since we were in an adventurous mood, we figured we'd give it a go. And we are glad we did! We ordered off the lunch specials menu and we both feel we received a fine meal of Asian soup and sushi. The rolls were well made from fresh ingredients and the soups were flavorful and interesting. The service was a bit on the slow side, particularly since we were the only table in the place, but overall we were happy with our meal...and are looking forward to trying it for dinner. read more

Do not recommend this place. Their sushi is very small, especially for the amount of money you're paying. I would highly recommend to check out Royal sushi or Umami sushi. It's $20 for all you can eat, and their sushi is bomb!!! Nothing compared to this. They're definitely pricey and not good at all. After visiting this location a few more times, I tend to agree with some of the negative reviews here. The host is just flat out rude. If you only have sushi available during certain times then SAY THAT UPFRONT! Don't give me an encyclopedia of a menu and 15 minutes to look through it only to tell me I can't order anything but sushi. Good enough to be our go-to for local sushi, but not a place we'd have anyone travel to. Sen on Oak Park Avenue in Oak Park is better, in my opinion. A lot of the maki here is heavy on the cream cheese and mayo, which is a little rich and not the freshest tasting. But the unagi is always good. I like the white dragon and strawberry rolls. Last few times the sashimi was frozen, so husband and I stick to the rolls. Seaweed salad is another hit for us. Nice, sweet dressing and good blend of seaweed and cucumbers. If you order the Chinese, be warned the portion size is enormous. Great deal as you can make 4 dinners from a single order. But you may feel conspicuous with a trough of fried rice in front of you. read more

The sushi here is phenomenal. Seriously. I never would have expected this in Berwyn. The service is great and the food is amazing. (I could overdose on the Tiger Eyes roll). What I don't understand is why this place is never busy. Friday night, Saturday night, doesn't matter... I've never seen more than three tables seated. I feel like I want to stand on a street corner and hand out marketing materials for this place - but at the same time I'd love to keep it my own little secret. I am a big fan of sushi and can awlways tell if its fresh or not. Let me start off saying that the sushi here is amazing, but the service blows. The tables are small and cramped. This place is not high chair kid friendly. The waiter was very monotone and showed no expression. I am a fan of upbeat waiters who are happy to see new customers. I had gone here a few times & the place is dirty, if you look at the hot sauce containers this is dust all over it, they don't take the time to switch the sauces in the plastic containers to clean ones. When I gave it another go I sat on the sushi side which was cleaner but the service was horrible the guy didn't want to make anything because they were closing in 2hrs and a half so he only gave us two options for sushi that was left over. The waiter kept rushing us and had the nerve to start taking his uniform off every time he would walk to our table he would take stuff off to the point where we got our check and he was wearing his jacket asking us if we were ready. I definitely WILL NEVER GK THERE AGAIN! The smoothies are all ice and not blended properly, it's dirty and the service sucks. The food is decent and the menu is huge. That is somewhat positive but also works against them because it's confusing to read a menu which rivals the Encyclopedia Britannica for sheer volume. Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Cantonese, Szechwan, it's all here. If you like variety and want a cornucopia of choices this might be up your alley. Servicable sushi but the no service, service very much ruined our Saturday night dining experience. We brought our two girls to sushi and should've listened to the reviews. In fact, we should've gotten up once we saw there was one waitress and very unfriendly sushi chefs. Starting with the Berwyn tap water, which honestly tasted awful, to us not getting our drinks for 20 minutes. Just brutal. We finally got our sushi and it was OK, but certainly not Nobu or worth the wait. My girls had smoothies and they were OK as well. Probably one of my favorite places to get Sushi on the run and Chinese food. Decided today was one of those days, when I called to place my order a young lady answered, I ordered the Jumbo Shrimp Fried Rice which is one of my favorite dishes from this restaurant, you get huge pieces of shrimp, although a little pricey it was well worth it for me, but I feel like they skimp out on the shrimp...I also ordered orange chicken, it was very delicious, an order of Eggrolls for my mom and a spicy shrimp roll which was very good! I got a little upset when I decided I'd ask about what they put in there spicy shrimp roll, and the lady who was taking my order gave me an attitude, I know how annoying it could be to have stupid questions asked, but with sushi I'm picky and I just wanted to know what came in the roll, apparently that seemed like a problem for her...when my mom went to go pick up the food she decided to add on some smoothies, and when she asked if they were made with fresh fruit, there was ANOTHER attitude given, I guess you just need patience with the workers here lol, other then the attitude the food is good and I'll continue coming back. read more

I've been here on a number of occasions for lunch during the work week. The sushi itself is not bad (lunch sushi is half-sized rolls, but reasonably priced) and is reasonably fresh (not the best I've had but definitely fresh). The lunch menu has many options, of which I have tried 2 maki rolls ($11) and 3 maki rolls ($15). The maki rolls include many standards and some special surprises (salmon skin, spicy octopus, spicy red snapper, etc.) The maki roll lunch options include miso soup (very good) and a salad (also very good, delicious dressing). My reasoning for subtracting one star is that the service needs some improvement. The waitress that is commonly working is friendly enough, but very quirky (has a lot of trouble remembering things, even when written down, doesn't like personal items being on the table, likes the water glasses in a specific place, etc.) and also has struggled nearly every time with splitting the check (although this is getting better). I've not ordered off the rest of the menu but it is HUGE, it has many options for combinations (sushi with a noodle bowl, sushi combinations, etc.), and it has many non-sushi options as well (Japanese and Thai dishes) including ramen noodle bowls. I think just about anyone could find something they like here. Overall: **** (four stars) Price: ***** (five stars, seems very reasonable to me) Variety of options: ***** (five stars) Food: **** (four stars for taste) Fresh sushi and the miso and salad that come with lunch option are particularly good. I love Sushi Junki and eat there on a regular basis. For a neighborhood restaurant in Berwyn which is not known for its diverse, ethnic cuisine, it's a great find! It is not on the level of a Michigan Avenue restaurant that costs double the price, but it's clean, there's ample parking, they're fast, the staff is attentive and the sushi chefs are fantastic. We love to go in and ask the chefs to make whatever they think we'd enjoy and we get beautiful rolls made of colorful combinations of fish and roes with delicious sauces in a big fan on the plate. This followed by an ear-to-ear grin from a proud chef! For those not into sushi, there are endless other pan-Asian choices on the menu, and plenty of sakis to keep the drinkers in your group happy. The environment is clean, neat and contemporary with a computer lighting system that allows them to change the colors in the ambient lighting. They do play contemporary music during lunch hour, so if you can't chew to background beat, come back for dinner! We need this restaurant in Berwyn, please try it out!!!! read more

How can you prepare so many different Asian cuisines this well? The sushi alone is a wonder - many invented, creative kinds of sushi. I did not think I would like the strawberry sushi, or whatever it was called, but it was perfect - a thin, shaved slice of strawberry across the top of a perfectly-prepared sushi. It is hard to do everything perfect when you have Thai, Chinese, Korean and Japanese cuisines on your menu. Having said that, this was our first visit here with die-hard fans of this place. Perhaps my husband and I ordered the wrong thing, maybe not. The sweet and sour soup was very spicy and the pepper overpowered the flavor. My entree came before I finished my soup when I specifically asked the server to bring it after I was done with the soup.......entree was lukewarm at best. I ordered the Triple Combination and it was more or less lots of bok choy and broccoli.....not much meat. Tea is not brought unless asked...not sure if we were charged for it or not. Husband's sweet and sour chicken had way too much breading and was basically inedible. Will return and order something different...... read more

I have been here several times, the first time the waiter was not great but the food compensated for the service. The other times i have been here, same waiter but no complains. This is such a hidden gem. Very nice decor and the waiter is very nice and efficient. I have already been twice and will definitely be back again. Nice large menu, and there are great options even for people who do not eat sushi. It seems off putting that it's in a small strip mall, but don't be fooled. This place is excellent:) read more
