Slightly bigger, seats more customers better location-in a big strip mall Prices are better-large rolls for a few dollars less than Sushi Studio Variety: more variety in terms of specialty rolls as well as other non-sushi dishes Friendly staff Sushi Studio: Used to have good happy hour pricing, but have jacked up their prices in the past year so that it's not as great anymore Prices generally are on the higher end Location sucks-shares a lot with a seedy motel Size: not as many seats/tables as Sushi Kara I think for the price, we'd prefer Sushi Kara for sure. Haven't experienced dining in or their happy hour, and don't even know if they have one, but I think it's worth avoiding potential hookers at the seedy motel where Sushi Studio is! read more

This place is bad news.. As in I'm gonna be a fat drunkard due to this place. My coworkers and I have become regulars with the sushi chefs Jay and Mr. Sung (sp??). Why? Cause they're friendly, willing to please, and have some fresh effin fish!! Real fat pieces of sashimi that melt in your mouth like butter. Try the jungle juice they make; I don't know what it's called but it has pieces of pineapples and sake that taste like heaven but will sneak up on you if you're looking to get your buzz on. read more

Las Vegas roll- good amount of fish in it, and the whole thing is deep fried in a tempura batter. Pretty good flavor, although I wish it were more sweet. Wished they had more comfortable seating like booths or something. The seats are a bit rigid and the tables are set too close to one another. Its sounds gross and it made me think of Planet of the Apes but it was actually great. Its tuna roll with real crab meat in the middle. Slightly spicy but I like the kick. Sushi Kara was not bad, but was not the best we have had. Their Meso soup was really really good and we enjoyed the vibe and found the place to be very clean. It did get busy while we were there and they forget to put in my order so I had to sit and watch the GFF eat her spicy tuna salad - which was exceptional. My rolls finally did arrive and the tasted mostly the same - California rolls with added items laid across the top. Servers are real nice and there is plenty of parking. I guess if you live nearby and want good sushi this is a good spot. For us, we will try a few places down by the water and slightly closer to our home. OK, I was very upset after ordering my dinner 12-10-2021, and a long wait time made it worst. It was sloppily done and I did not appreciate that. Today I called and they replaced my order. However; I did not appreciate the owner questioning me about my yelp review IN FRONT OF A CUSTOMER! Not professional at all. Not bad at all! They have a very wide selection of rolls and sushi. Prices are pretty reasonable and actually considered slightly "cheaper" than the average sushi place. I really enjoyed the eel roll and baked salmon roll. It was all pretty delicious. Thankfully, they didn't add a bunch of sauces on the sushi like some cheap sushi places do to hide the fact that their fish isn't very fresh. Went here for the first time with my friend... we're both sushi lovers and because she lives in OC and I live in WLA, we tried to find somewhere "in the middle" to meet. This place is in a shopping center but don't let that convince you that the restaurant is not authentic. Everytime I come here the servers are awful...the sushi chefs are typically good but the servers are slow, don't give equal attention to tables, and seem overwhelmed all the time! This place gets pretty packed during the usual rush hours... Roll sizes were big, but the fish quality was hit or miss. the spicy tuna they use in their rolls was almost pureed, which created a consistency/texture that was very mushy. the seared ahi we ordered looked like it barely even touched the pan. the french kiss roll says there is fried eel in it. didn't see/taste any. there was a large party at the bar that was extremely noisy. i like everyone to have a good time, but it shouldn't be so wild that it affects the rest of the customers dining experience. it was happy hour (beers- buy one get one for a dollar), which is a great deal, but people in the party were clearly wasted (the collection of their bottles on the table behind them). people from the party slowly started to leave and DRIVE HOME DRUNK! the restaurant should realize they could be held responsible for any accidents that could occur from getting their customers wasted. all in all, it wasn't bad sushi, but i don't see myself returning anytime soon unless i want to get boozed (with a designated driver, of course). read more

My husband is an avid sushi consumer; specifically, he loves yellowtail, albacore and salmon sushi. So when we are trying to find a new place to eat, it's almost always either sushi or Mexican. We have driven by Sushi Kara when running errands and so we decided to go here on a Sunday night around 5 pm for dinner and were seated right away. We were greeted by the cheery hostess and I felt immediately at home. As we looked over the menu, I'm always very hesitant about ordering a lot of dishes (rolls) because I always order too much food. You think you won't be full because they're technically such tiny pieces but they're so filling! They had a good amount of selection of sushi, rolls, udon , tempura, teriyaki bowls, etc. Their menu is colorful and descriptive. We ordered the following: salmon sushi, salmon skin hand roll, some kind of roll topped off with albacore, avocado, and almonds(?) ( pictures included as I forgot what it's called and what was in it) spicy tuna crispy rice cake (appetizer) and chicken katsu (I had this insane craving) and 2 hit green tea. We shared everything. Presentation of food was standard. The ratio between spicy tuna and crispy rice cage was uneven (not enough tuna) and not as spicy as I was hoping it would be. My husband enjoyed his salmon and albacore sushi and the tuna roll. We both LOVED the chicken katsu. I wasn't expecting much, cause who orders chicken katsu at a sushi restaurant? We were both surprised by how good the chicken was. Salmon skin hand roll looks smaller compared to others only because they don't fatten it up with rice, but it was crispy and crunchy and everything you'd expect. The tuna roll with avocado was "ok" according to my husband. Overall, standard sushi with outstanding service. Next time, we are coming back for the katsu and to try their curry. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner last night, on a Tuesday. We ordered two 10-pc sushi combos and one Paradise Roll. The combos came with miso soup and an Asian salad. I gave this place a 3 because it tasted about average. The combos came with two pieces of 5 different fish, nigiri style--tuna, salmon, yellowtail, snapper, and albacore. The tuna tasted like fishy water, the salmon was a satisfying sort of creamy (but not the best), the yellowtail and snapper were firm and equally decent, and the albacore made me nearly cry of happiness. The Paradise Roll was good, but probably not the best variation of this roll I've ever had. This roll had spicy tuna on the inside and tuna, salmon, and avocado on the outside. It was always a dread eating a piece of the roll where the sliver of tuna wasn't doused in soy sauce. And as an experienced spicy tuna enthusiast, I felt that the spicy tuna within the roll was the kind of spicy that was stupid spicy rather than spicy in a flavorful way. Overall, the roll was still good, but I'm not sure if I'd order it next time. The service was pretty good. The sushi was prompt and we didn't have to wait too long. The food was plentiful and filling, and sated our sushi cravings for now. So, this place was overall a 3--average. read more

The sushi here is fantastic. Such diverse options. Their menu in general seems to have all winners. My personal favorite is the 911 roll. I love spice and it definitely brings the heat! I generally love Sushi Kara, however the last three times I have been in the service has been lacking. There would be moments where my boyfriend and I would sit about 10 minutes without anyone to take our paper, even when we asked another server to please take it. She responded that she couldn't take it and that the other server could only do it (maybe she was training which is understandable). They apologized the last time we came in because a server noticed that we were waiting a long time during our previous visit. Despite being busy, the server's are always really friendly and are willing to accommodate your needs if they sense disappointment. The sushi is decent quality for a great price. I often come in for their lunch specials. Maybe during busier times they need to staff up. I really do like Sushi Kara, and I hope that the next time I return we won't have to wait a long time to get our food order in like the previous. read more

The food was ready in a short time, and the server confirmed with the kitchen that the 2 dishes I ordered with special request were correct. When I opened the food at home, I immediately saw that the 3 dishes I ordered would not only be enough for Lunch, but there was enough for Dinner, too. And the 2 special requests were correct. The app I ordered was the spicy tuna with crispy rice, which was beautiful with daikon curls. PLENTY and super fresh and tasty.
