We've been coming to Sushi Ai for nearly five years, and it has remained one of our favorite sushi spots in Long Beach. The quality is consistently outstanding, the fish is always incredibly fresh, and every visit reminds us why we keep coming back. Our must-order appetizers are the crispy rice with spicy tuna and the yellowtail sashimi with toasted garlic. For rolls, you can't go wrong with the Microtech Roll, Fire Roll, or the Baked Halibut Roll. We also absolutely love the salmon sushi topped with caviar. It's one of our favorites. Sushi Ai has definitely become one of my go-to sushi spots in Long Beach, especially for happy hour! Their happy hour menu is SO good and somehow has pretty much all of my favorites on it, which makes it way too easy to keep coming back. One thing I order every single time is the baked green mussels, and I have to say... they are FIRE. So flavorful, baked perfectly, and honestly one of those things I'm not willing to share lol. I've tried different items each time I've come, and I always leave satisfied. What really adds to the experience though is the service. The workers are always welcoming and attentive. GREAT FOOD TERRIBLE SERVICE If I could give negative stars to the manager in charge on duty may 10, 26 around 4pm-6 I would for the customer service. As we were served our drinks I overheard the manager speak with the table next to them he greeted them and mentioned he would be going to the liquor store. We ordered our food from the server and roughly 30 minutes later received one roll and a few skewers, we are a party of 5 and I was awaiting for the table to receive their food so we can eat together. About 30 minutes later we received one more roll and two bento boxes, one of the bento boxes had the wrong protein so I let the server know. Another 10 minutes had passed and we were still missing my mom's roll, so we let the server know and he mentioned he forgot to put it in and it would be out shortly. While waiting for our food we weren't checked on or receive water refills when asked. Finally we are served my moms roll and another 5 minutes later the correct protein for the bento boxes. We were barley able to eat together as the first order was dropped off 30 minutes before anyone else in the party got their food, my skewers are cold, the bento boxes receives the wrong protein which we are then charged for a 3rd one, late order on a roll that arrives when the majority party is almost done eating. During this time other tables were receiving their food and service aside from US. Time to pay the bill and we notice the void of one bento box but then another added on and charged us more, we complain AGAIN to the manager this time who is checking us out for the bill he mentions they understaffed and busy but as I recall he left to go to to the liquor store. LEAVING behind his knowingly understaffed team with a busy restaurant on Mother's Day . I will say the food was delicious and great service from the cooks/sushi chef THANK YOU to the chefs for working hard making our meal they did a great job. read more

It has a cozy inside with fairly limited seating but you can see that they have made the most of it. Had the tempura rolls and some water. It is not terribly expensive and you can get away with a decent lunch/dinner and not breaking the bank. However the problem is that they have so many good things so there is always the problem of overeating and spending more than expected. read more

I ordered thru Postmates and they will do nothing to refund or correct it on their menu. The customer service here is a joke. Despite being a long time customer that frequents this establishment at least 1-3x monthly, spending over $100-200 each visit, they refused to help me. Went in here for a quick lunch because I was in the area and craving sushi. Liked that they had a sushi and sashimi lunch special. The server was friendly as I was one of the first customers to walk in around noon right when they open. The lunch special was fine, but found the sushi rice to be packed slightly too loose and didn't hold structure the way other nigiri's do at other restaurants. Otherwise the nigiri pieces were fine. Tried this place out after a friend recommended it and it definitely lived up to the word. We started with the yellowtail with yuzu truffle and garlic chips. It was delicious! The sauce was so good we ended up keeping the bowl on the table and dipping our other dishes into it. We liked it enough to order a second round immediately. The real highlight for me was the seared toro roll. I actually asked for it unseared, and it was incredible. Total melt-in-your-mouth quality. We ended up getting a second one of those too. Also tried the chirashi bowl, which was packed with a lot of fresh fish. I left feeling super full. The service was really friendly and the vibe is chill. We wanted to try another sushi spot on 2nd Street and picked Sushi Ai for the outdoor seating. We were the first to arrive just after they opened at noon. A sign indicated that we could pick our own table and once we did, the server was quick to arrive and let us know that we could choose from the Happy Hour menu which gives you 20% of a selection of appetizers and rolls along with a variety of beers. We opted to order off the regular menu and tried the Baked Jumbo Scallop, Eel Crunch Roll and the Sashimi 9pc lunch special, which included Tuna, Salmon, and White Fish for 19.99. The Baked Scallop arrived steaming hot and was so flavorful. Along with the Eel Crunch all the sauces were so well balanced. The Sashimi tasted fresh and was filling. My daughter & I couldn't wait to have our favorite sushi roll the Scottish Pepper Salmon Roll. I've been out of town for 4 months & while I'm home for Mother's Day we decided to enjoy our favorite sushi restaurant with their roll I've never found anything like it. My daughter & I sat down & when a waiter brought the plates & soy sauce, the soy sauce was put down hard & it splashed onto the dress I wore for Mother's Day. I told another waiter what happened & I asked for water & napkins to get out the soy sauce on my dress. The waiter made a condescending comment saying he "wouldn't want to ruin that Versace dress". I replied "If it were Versace, it would be a whole different situation." I honestly wanted to leave at that point. That's how your staff treats a woman & on Mother's Day? Not to mention they delivered a sushi roll we did not order. I told the waiter we did not order that & I ordered the Scottish Pepper Salmon roll & rainbow roll (which didn't even have salmon on it). He checked & said they would make it. The sushi chef made the roll with the Red onions on the side. I was so sad & disappointed why they would make it like that for us. Absolutely disrespectful. We saw another table ordered it & I guess since there was a man at that table they made the Scottish Pepper Salmon roll correct. My daughter was so disappointed since that was our every other Thursday night spot for years. Hubby ordered salmon roll, Scottish pepper salmon with garlic ponzu & Fire-i guess he was really famished. I opted to get the Sushi & sashimi dinner--this was highly satisfying. The fish was sliced THICK, the sushi chef didn't skimp at all. It tasted fresh, great mouthfeel. It was silky smooth. Presentation looked a bit sloppy but the food tasted great. Hubby gave his rolls the two thumbs up! Service by Angle was fairly prompt but not as attentive as we'd like. We sat outside by the sidewalk & people watched as we dined. The Sushi was amazing the Shishido peppers so good I'm going to dream about them. They allowed me to keep my baby in a stroller I'm so thankful for the because normally smaller restaurants have issues with it. I also noticed they are dog friendly, I love that. I would have give them 5 stars but we had a huge receipt issue it took what felt like at least a hour to figure out how to charge us. But another employee stepped in to help sort out the confusion. We tried the volcano roll, the eel roll, the salmon, the shrimp tempura, the edamame spicy and regular, the chicken udon, and of course some strawberry lemonade! I don't think there was anything that wasn't good! The food tasted fresh and like it was made carefully. It is pricey so if you're looking for a cheap menu this isn't the place. Between a group of 4, we ordered a pitcher of beer, a bottle of sake, spicy edamame, and 6 rolls all to share, and we each paid only $34 after splitting the check. These are the rolls we got: Dragon roll Spicy shrimp crunch Spicy tuna with garlic ponzu Hawaiian roll Baked jumbo scallop roll (not pictured) Without happy hour, the prices have increased over the years (as all places have). Overall solid sushi with a large menu and veggie offerings. Outdoor patio is dog friendly and spacious enough. Like the location on 2nd in Belmont Shore. The area can get a bit chavvy/brotastic but this spot seems to do well avoiding the noise. Servers were far beyond accommodating even brining out a replacement for an item that was incorrect and having us keep the mistake as well, no charge. Rolls were all lovely to eat and presentation for a couple dishes were straight up eye candy. Highly recommend for a decent sushi spot with lots to wander around or toward after your meal.
