I went here last week with a few friends because we wanted to go sake bombing and after calling around to a few places in long beach we came across this gem! Buy one large sake, get the next for $1. Buy one large beer, get the next for $1... seriously does it get any better?! We walked in and were instantly welcomed by the chefs and the waitress immediately seated us. I wasn't even planning on eating (I had my eyes on the prize, the prize being alcohol of course) but I'm glad I did. I shared the "Hot Night" roll, or something like that, with a friend and it was delicious! Filling and just the right amount. The two sushi chefs then came over and had a sake bomb with us, then they gave us a free pitcher of sujo with pineapple, and THEN the chefs came over again and let us try their favorite soju with them! The night ended with free dessert, as if I wasn't already sold. I've never had such a fun experience at a restaurant and I can't wait to go back!! read more

I recently visited this place, and while it seemed popular and had a full house, the experience was underwhelming. Despite the rush, my meal--a simple chicken teriyaki--took an unreasonably long time to arrive. It felt like the staff was more focused on closing up than ensuring quality service, which was disappointing. On top of that, their soda was completely flat. Both the Coke and Sprite tasted off, as if they hadn't checked or maintained their fountain machine. The lack of attention to detail, from slow service to flat drinks, made the overall experience feel rushed and disorganized. It was my first time visiting this restaurant, yet, I was shocked of why I haven't visited Sushi Kara earlier. Starting with the overall restaurant, it was very clean and organized with the menus stacked nicely in the place where the customers could see. Then there are the employees, who values each customers and are very friendly and nice. Last but not least, they have a very fast service and you'll be shocked to see how fast they are and how fast the foods comes out. Not to mention their uniforms, which are very cute with a sushi design. Thus, Sushi Kara is an amazing restaurant and I'll surely visit them again! Sakura Sushi is now under new management, and has a new name... Sushi Kara! I have been to the restaurant a few times... both before and after the management switch. The staff welcomes you from the minute you walk in the door! They go above and beyond to make sure you are a happy customer! The rolls were fresh and out to the table QUICK!! Also, I really haven't found a better place in Long Beach to go saki bombing! The chefs came to our table and shared some bombs with us! This was my first time visiting Sushi Kara, but I was absolutely amazed by them! First of all, their employees were so friendly and helpful, which showed that they valued their customers. Second, the food was amazing with freshness and deliciousness! The sashimis were so soft and fresh, especially the salmon, the rolls looked so perfect and tasted amazing, and I loved the appetizers! I star this review by stating that my wife and i are SUSHI SNOBS!! and LONG BEACH is a sushi WASTELAND..not much here is good..Sushi Kara is an exception...we were quite nervous about trying another spot after so many bad experiences..BUT..this place was great!!!Sushi was fine and fresh and the staff was quite friendly..they knew it was our fist time and hooked us up with some freebies..we've been back since and the quality has remained the same..highly recommended!! read more

Don't really like sea food, but the family loves it. I like to sit at the food bar and order a cucumber and avocado roll. The chefs are very nice and always have a smile. There is this really nice waitress who is blonde and is very sweet and nice and polite. Where as the other waitress reached in front of you to get your finished plates. I grew up in Hawaii having some of the best sushi and Sushi Kara has got the goods. I love their buy one saki or beer and get the next for only a dollar deal. I have eaten at most of the top sushi restaurants in Long Beach. Heck most of them know me by name. Right now Sushi Kara is by far my favorite and go to Sushi place in Long Beach. If you are looking for high quality fresh fish than this is the place. The Scottish Salmon Sushi and the Lemon Roll are incredibly good. read more

Great prices for sushi! We came here for lunch and ordered three rolls and a sahimi combo where they suprise you with a variety of different pieces. The salmon could use a little seasoning. The miso taste is very subtle, but was good. I know it's meant to be a healthy dish. The vegetables were steamed, so again it didn't have much flavor. But overall it was a good dish. Because we ordered thru a third party, they packed the food really well. And I like how they have the utensils, chopsticks, napkins already pre-packaged so it's easy to include in to-go orders.
