This place has been open less than a year and replaces a sushi spot that I had not been a big fan of.My son, the big sushi fan was down visiting from Oregon, so I thought it would be a good chance to try it out. Parking is a little treacherous and I would caution you not to exit on the Skyline Blvd. side. That driveway is almost unnavigable. I was concerned from how it looked on the outside that it would be tiny inside, but it seated probably 30 when full. Our server was also the owner, Tony. Selection, especially of nigiri is quite large and Tony helped us in comparing the different types of shrimp, which was very helpful. They encourage you to try the sushi as the chef prepares it before adding any wasabi or soy. I added it to the Umi Masu, because the large size of these pieces seemed to call out for a "flavor break" Here's what we ordered: Umi Masu nigiri $10: 4.5 stars. I would have liked the pieces a little thinner. They were a bit difficult to wrangle. It was a gorgeous color and pristine fresh Amaebi nigiri $15: 5 stars. Great freshness and quality of product. The heads were fried just right too keep the tasty tiny brains intact. Santa Barbara Uni $20: 5 stars. We had wanted the Japanese Uni, but they were out. This was probably the best S.B. Uni either of us had ever had. Incredibly complex flavor, without being too funky, and topped with freshly grated wasabi 6 piece Japanese Oysters $23: 4.5 stars. These were topped with some tobiko and a served with a tasty sort or mignonette sauce. My only knock was they were kinda small Fatboy Roll $22: 4 stars. This was basically a deep fried California Roll with white fish, scallop, tobiko and house mayo on top. I think if I'd noticed the California roll was fried, we might not have ordered it. It was a little too heavy.

Kashiwa Roll $17: 4 stars spicy and regular tuna, spicy and regular salmon, tobiko, crunch and house mayo. Good fish again, but maybe too many different things rolled up into 1. I had sent a Yelp message to them the night before...

asking I gave them a price point, could they select a meal for us, but when we got there, we decided we'd rather order ourselves. When Tony took my credit card and noticed it said Diane B. he realized I was the one who had messaged him. As a perk he discounted our bill by 15%, which brought it to just under $100. What a sweet touch. I will definitely be back. So many more things I want to explore there. Food: 37/40 service: 18/20 Value: 16/20 Intangibles: 17/20 Overall: 88/100. I will round up since it's so close. 5 stars!

This location used to be a hole-in-the-wall, no-name Japanese restaurant (25+ years ago) serving cheap sushi rolls. But now, after a few changes in ownership, they have higher-quality sashimi and sushi! No longer worried if I'd get food poisoning from days-old fish! Phew! The restaurant is modern and clean. They have a fish tank with gold fishes to bring in some success! Hopefully, it does that for them. We were promptly seated at around 6:30 pm as one party just left. Perfect timing! Their food and drink menu is 14 pages long, which made it difficult for us to decide what to order. Finally, after about 10 minutes, we were able to place our order. ***OUR PICKS*** FRIED STRING BEANS ~ Fried string beans, creamy sesame sauce, black pepper powder. This dish was good, though the sauce was more sweet than savory. Nonetheless, it was a good starter. 4/5 IKA SUGATA YAKI ~ Grilled whole squid w/house special sauce. The squid had a good, chewy texture and was topped with bonito flakes. We enjoyed the smokiness of the bonito. The special sauce tasted like teriyaki. 4/5 CHEF'S CHOICE SASHIMI (15PCS) ~ We had the usual fish you would get in a chirashi bowl like tuna, salmon, walu, halibut, hamachi, but there was one fish we did not know, yet all the fish we got was fresh and delicious served with freshly grated wasabi and pickled ginger. 5/

This place is a must go! We've been here several times already and the sushi is fresh, tasty and did i say fresh?. They really thoughtful about presentation and flavor. The salmon sampler, they're fresh and each one will make you smile and hamachi carpaccio is really good, they're like butter. Great service and it is quick if you get there early before the crowds. I've been here before, the new owner did an excellent job made the ambiance brighter. Will come back soon!

Went to check out the newest iteration of a sushi restaurant at this location. Sushi and sashimi were very good. Fried squid, oysters and otoro were standouts for me. Solid new restaurant and great local neighborhood spot, but parking is a little tight in this small strip mall. Go check it out for yourself!

I went here with my parents for a Friday night dinner with a reservation, sometimes it's recommended especially if they're busy! There's a few tables inside, plus seating at the sushi bar. I got excited to see they have Omakase on their menu, and for pretty good price too! It's $40 for a 9 piece set, and they were all so delicious! When they serve it, they explain each nigiri, which I appreciate! We also ordered some appetizers such as Chicken Karaage, Spicy Edamame, and Mixed Tempura. All the food was great and I look forward to coming back again!

We've been meaning to try Sushi Kashiwa since it's close to home and we loved going to the prior sushi place before they took over the location. We had reservations for dinner on Sunday night, and the place was full so I'd recommend making reservations or coming before peak hours. We ordered plenty of dishes to try and we absolutely loved it! My favorites were the Geso Karaage and sashimi. Their fish was fresh and I love that their Geso Karaage were thick pieces with plenty of meat to them. Most places I've been the squid is thin and more batter than meat. Overall, very happy we checked it out and grateful for the complimentary dragon roll! Congrats on the 2-year anniversary and hope there's many more to come. We'll definitely be back.

I've been dying to try this sushi spot since stumbling upon it months ago- imagine my good fortune when I ended up moving north and finding a hike within reasonable distance of this sushi restaurant! Sushi Kashiwa is refined and understated gem. Service was friendly- we ordered chicken karaage, uni toro hand roll, salmon paradise roll, salmon nigiri, and 9 piece nigiri omakase. Chicken karaage was one of the best we've ever had. The sweet potato fries were lightly breaded and had a crispy exterior, while the karaage came in large chunks and was made with tender dark meat. Both were piping hot and tasted delicious when dipped in their spicy mayo! Uni toro hand roll was delicious, the fish was fresh and wasabi complemented the flavor of the temaki beautifully. Salmon paradise roll was to die for, I'm not typically a roll person but the mango they use is super sweet and Kashiwa does not skimp on its fish portions at all! Salmon nigiri is as expected, the 9 piece omakase was also incredibly filling. I savored every piece! Plating and execution at this location is exceptional, you'd never know from the location that this spot is so exemplary!

Came for lunch on a Saturday and there was no wait. We ordered the salmon sampler, oyster shooter, shinkuku roll, and geisha roll. The rolls would fall apart as we picked them up which made them messy to eat. The salmon sampler had a nice variety of different salmons but the fish didn't taste so fresh. Actually, most of the fish didn't taste fresh - they had a bit of a slightly slimy texture and an off taste. Service is ok but space is a bit small. Wanted to find a new place but I'd rather pay a premium to ensure I was eating better quality fish.

Pros: Arrived for dinner service at Sushi Kashiwa and my husband and I were immediately greeted and seated. The customer service here is great! I enjoyed the variety of options they have and their menu with photos was helpful. The Lion King roll was delicious and I highly recommend it! The Chicken Katsu was crunchy and flavorful. The prices were very reasonable compared to other spots. Cons: My miso soup was lukewarm and the seaweed was tough and hard to chew. I wasn't a fan of the rice they used for the rolls - it was sweet and took away from the overall flavor. The parking can be a challenge too. Overall, I left feeling confused on whether I liked the food or not. Based on other reviews I plan to give this spot a second try. Perhaps it was the time of day I went (right upon opening).

We made a reservation but still had to wait as this place is very small and busy. Parking is limited but the food is to die for! We didn't wait long to get our food. My absolute favorite were the fried string beans and the surprise desert which i believe to be strawberry ice cream! This is my favorite ice cream of all time! Definitely try it! It has a different texture but still so delicious. We must've came on a good day because the desert and the sushi roll was on the house! :) The servers were very friendly and the restaurant seemed a bit trendy. We ordered so much food, but all was finished with no crumbs left behind. I definitely recommend getting the fried string beans to start and the strawberry ice cream to end the night. :)

Placed looked pretty new. First time visiting. I would say it's a 3.9-4.0. Sushi quality was good. We were the only table there so it's not busy. We went on a weekend day. We were two adults and a baby. Service was nice. Inside was clean too. Food came out decently quick. We got a Lunch Bento D, Bento B Salmon and String Beans. Most items were great. Sushi Kashiwa is a cozy sushi spot, but it's got a great vibe. The service is quick and attentive, and they play great, upbeat kpop. We had the veggie tempura and each had a chirashi bowl which is a TON of large, fresh sashimi. There's amaebi and uni which was really nice to have. The slices are so generous that I couldn't finish my bowl. The green tea, red bean, mochi dessert had a nice, chewy mochi that I really enjoyed. They also gave us a complimentary red bean ice cream for dessert. We're definitely coming back here again when we're craving sashimi!

Food: I only had the unagi fried rice and chicken teriyaki. I honestly thought it was pretty good, but the temperature of the food (mainly the rice) wasn't as hot as I wanted it to be. However, I really really liked the flavor. Some of the chicken teriyaki was a little dry, but I liked that there was a slight crisp on the outside. Amazing, amazing, amazing. One of the best sushi restaurant. I had the mango salmon salad and I honestly feel that I will never get tired of it. All the sushi is fresh and lots of option to choose from. Many new ideas and combinations on the menu. The only drawback is the location with very limited parking. read more

Every dish was beautifully presented and prepared. Our waiter was happy to give us his recommendations when we couldn't decide between two dishes. When he learned it was our anniversary, we were treated to delicious sake/yuzu cocktails and then were surprised with two desserts on the house. The restaurant is casual enough for family dining, and the noise level is just right. Reservations recommended for Friday evenings. read more

I used to go to 8 sushi a lot and i enjoyed the food, the vibe was okay and i was disappointed when i found out they closed and now this place is here, i went to check it out on a Thursday night w my family, parking is always so tricky here too. We sat down, got small glass of water, i asked for tea and they told me it was a 2 dollars each person.. i was little shocked, the menu was smaller and pricer. The portions were smaller and service was eh i had to ask for things over and over. I dont know if i wanna go back, but they did offer a 15% off for the grand opening. read more

One of the best sushi places I've had in the area. I love sushi and I'm usually picky about the quality, their sushi and oyster are so fresh. It was SO GOOD! and the price is very reasonable for that quality where it's hard to find in the Bay Area. Staff were incredibly nice even though the restaurant was so busy. It is the third time I have come here to enjoy dinner with my family. We like that place to have our dinner with a nice sunset through the big windows. Chirashi Bowl is one of my favorites. I love it so much. My son's favorites are beef udon and tempura. The Kashiwa Supereme Sashimi Box is so fancy, delicious, and brings me joy. Went here tonight for my husband's birthday and it did not disappoint. We ordered the 11 piece Omakase Nigiri, hamachi Kama and five of their specialty rolls (blue fin lovers roll, shinjuku, sexy cassanova, dragon roll and summer paradise roll) They were all amazing and the fish was so fresh. This is the first time we've been here since the new ownership and service did not disappoint. Everyone was super friendly and checked on us often. Needless to say, we will be returning to try more of their dishes. At the end, they gifted us complimentary dessert for the b day boy and the table. We've been eager to try this new sushi restaurant as the reviews seem to be positive. We ordered the nigiri omakase (7 PC) and Chirashi bowl, chicken karaage, and combination tempura. The tempura/ karaage was good only wish they included the ground radish as it appeared on the photos. The karaage tasted different the normal kaarage we normally get from other places, this one had cumin. Now what I was really excited about was their sushi/sashimi and very disappointed. The fish in both sushi and sashimi were off and tasted old and fishy. Also, there were 3 pieces of fish with tough sinew and found a piece of fish scale after biting into it. The service was good however, they came back to pour tea a couple of times which was their saving grace. Would I recommend? Probably not because sushi needs to be very fresh not fishy taste. Maybe they had a bad night. read more

The service is OK (could be faster) The food quality is OK The portions are so SMALL Ambiance was just like 8 sushi but they tried to make it fancy with less food on the plate. The price is EXPENSIVE I paid $8 for a tempura roll that only came with 3 small pieces and a tail :( def not worth the value I paid. I also ordered a California roll and the crab filling was so cold it felt like it was just defrosted from the freezer. I definitely did not enjoy it as much as I would have liked to. I also did NOT receive my bowl of soup that was supposed to come with my order of Teriyaki chicken. Also why are there no bento boxes available? I really wish they would up the portions or lower the price of some items because it's pretty expensive considering you'll only get 3 bites of food. I left feeling like I overpaid and I was underwhelmed. I went to another restaurant afterwards. read more

Close by to my house and saves me a long drive. Found this place passing by Pacifica. Nice ambiance, a bit a small restaurant. The food and staff were amazing and treated us well. We had 2 rolls. Will be coming back and trying other dishes. Other patrons seem to be having a great time and enjoyed the food as well and calling it art. read more

Came here with my brother about 2 months ago. Waited forever for a server, had to ask for a menu. Ambiance was gross. Floors were dirty and bathroom was awful. Food was pretty tasteless. Sushi wasn't much better. And for great Japanese, take 3 mins and go up the road to Tokyo sushi. read more

I tried a few sushi rolls and unfortunately not all of them were great. The lion king roll was dry and falling apart and the tempura roll only had 4 pieces....the dragon roll and was the best out of them all. I will probably give them another try in hopes this was just an off night. read more

Visiting Pacifica for 2 night & we're glad to try this place. I was craving for sushi & husband was craving for soup, this is a good place to go! The place is not crowded just enough sitting to accommodate around 35-45 people inside. Food was awesome, got 2 nigiri then udon soup, followed with chicken karaage and 3 rolls of sushi. Only has 2 servers at that moment but they were able to manage good and fast service. read more

This place has an amazing selection of sashimi and sushi. Lots of different flavors that you normally don't see in a sushi restaurant. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Great food! Sushi was nice and fresh. Entree was also good and the udon soup was very hot and flavorful. Don't skip dessert as the matcha cheesecake was very good and definitely pair it with the green tea ice cream. Awesome service as well!! read more

Nice little hidden sushi restaurant in the Pacifica area, didn't know there was a sushi restaurant hidden in this place until my friend recommended it to me. We have a group of 6 people. Wait time wasn't bad at all, sushi was very fresh and with many variety to choose from, we loved the sashimi combination, and tried many different sushi rolls, food also came out pretty quick with 3 chef working there to get the orders out to customers as soon as possible. Waiters are very polite and took care of our table refilling drinks and water for us. 10/10 read more

So when we visit a sushi restaurant, we tend to evaluate everything as a whole -- price, quality, service, and of course the flavors. For dinner we ordered the Mango Tuna Roll (which was our first time trying a mango-style sushi roll), the 8-piece Omakase Nigiri, a Double Toro Roll, two pieces of Otoro, and a hot sake. With a 20% tip included, the total for the two of us came to $163.50, which honestly falls within the average range of what we usually spend for a sushi dinner like this. Normally we might pay around $120-$130 depending on the place, sometimes a little more if we add an extra item or two. The portion sizes were pretty standard. Not unusually large, but not small either -- similar to what we've experienced at many other sushi restaurants. Where this place really stood out was the depth of flavor. The quality and balance of the ingredients were excellent. At one point I actually caught myself closing my eyes just to focus on the taste, which is something I almost never do. The preparation felt very refined and the flavors were elevated, rich, and memorable. I would describe it as delicate portions with very elevated flavors. Because of that, I'm giving this place 5 out of 5 stars. This is the kind of restaurant that works perfectly for a nice dinner with your partner. It's not necessarily a place where you go wild ordering everything on the menu like at a taco spot. Instead, it's better to be thoughtful with what you choose and enjoy a few well-crafted dishes. You can easily have a special, enjoyable dinner here without going overboard. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and want a quality sushi experience with refined flavors. The only thing I felt was missing was a small welcome miso soup. In some sushi restaurants we've visited, they serve a tiny cup of miso with a couple pieces of tofu as a warm welcome.
