Went to have early dinner at this place, it's my second time, we ordered Unagi fried rice which I recommend, Uri, Japan Uri, Bluefin lovers roll, Geisha roll, Chicken Katsu my wife's favorite, Sake Sashimi, Fat boy mix roll and the Shinjuku roll. They are all delicious and YUMMY. The service is exceptional and beyond compare. Kudos to the owner and staff for the good foods and services. Seeing the grand opening sign, we decided to give it a try for lunch. We ordered the Salmon Sampler Plate and the Chicken Katsu. The salmon pieces were really fresh and we saved the belly for the very end. Fatty and rich, yum! The katsu was very crunchy as well. Only the rice was a little hard. The service was great and we got complimentary miso soup and green tea ice-cream desserts. The server was attentive. Overall, definitely better than expected, and we will come back since it's a close and convenient location. read more

At the time of me writing this review, this restaurant has a notice of new ownership on its window and has a "tempting" 15% off discount banner hanging below its sign. A few years prior, I attempted to dine at this establishment before it was under this new ownership, and it was not a pleasant experience. At that time, I had placed a pick up order, and I was met with unreasonable wait times that caused me to cancel it altogether and dine elsewhere, foreshadowing what would be a repeat mistake in their future. But surely, this time around it would be better, right?......Right?? So I arrive just after 5pm on a Friday, which is right around the time they open. Upon entering, I am akwardly greeted by the staff with a mispronounced "Welcome!" in broken Japanese. I'm probably just nitpicking here, but I still give them points for trying. Once our party of six was seated and checking out the menu, I was taken aback by the prices. It must be said that even with the 15% discount, these guys are not the cheapest...especially given the quality of food we would receive. Our drink orders were never correct, and we had to hunt down the waitresses for refills. I'm not sure if this was due to a language barrier or that they just don't know how to handle a full house of customers, as it did become more crowded later on. I had also noticed a line of Door Dash drivers getting visibly and auditorially frustrated at how long it was taking for their food to come out. It must be said that my party and I shared the same sentiment as it took forever for our food to arrive as well, which is made all the more ridiculous seeing as we were one of the first parties to show up right at opening. We even noticed a few groups of customers that arrived after us eat, dine, and leave before we did. When the food did arrive, it was warm, not hot. I ordered the chicken katsu. Being deep fried, it should have been damn near burning my tongue, but it tasted like it had been sitting for quite a while. I ended up not finishing my dish. I had the below subpar ankimo which was also the exact same price as my chicken katsu. I also tried their otoro nigiri, which is supposed to be the fattiest most tender part of the tuna. What I ordered was chewy. I don't know how, but it was not unlike eating a piece of beef gristle. I only ate one of the two pieces I was given. Lastly, I tried their raw oysters, which come in half a dozen. When I ate the first one, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it actually tasted. I thought to myself, "Finally! I can catch a break, here." However, when I went in for a second oyster, it tasted off and slightly rancid. It was then that I decided to abandon the remaining four oysters. All in all, we ended up spending more than an hour and a half (and a fortune) dining at this place; that's an hour and a half of my life that I want back. You know it's a red flag when the new owner thinks it's a good idea to draw customers in with a 15% discount sign. It's too bad I didn't know any better. Rest assured, I won't be coming back to this place. EDIT (response to Owner): Yes please do train your staff better. Also, I forgot to mention that my wife had ordered a vegetable tempura and was given the mixed tempura instead. And while the wait staff corrected this and eventually gave us the vegetable tempura, they still ended up charging us for the mixed tempura in the end ($5 more)! Totally unacceptable. read more

Tried this place out because it recently opened and is close to my house. To my surprise, i saw Chef Tommy! His food is great! My family had so happy we ate there. Sushi kashiwa is a gem. They have a great sake selection, great quality fish and items on the menu you won't find at typical Japanese restaurants. I can never not order their chicken soft bone skewer. It's one of my favorite things on the menu, next is the chirashi bowl. Service is also great, the manager Eric knows his stuff and he is super helpful when you want to try something new. Their mini bowls are a perfect snack if you want a little bite. A must try appetizer is the tako wasabi. Great spot for families! read more

This new sushi place was a big hit with my whole family. Sushi rolls were amazingly fresh and well-balanced. The spicy garlic edamame was to die for. My partner loved the tempura and green beans with creamy sauce - well, we all did. Best sushi I've had in Pacifica to date. Highly recommend the Bluefin Lovers roll, and even the unagi roll was somehow melt-in-your-mouth good. First off, you were all very welcoming. I appreciate the time to say hello, joke around a bit, and talk to the customer while they wait for their to-go order. For customer service, you rank high. Let's talk about the food. Your Nigiri and hand rolls were great! The smoked salmon nigiri - WOW! Could not have imagined it any better. However, the Scalop Inferno roll was lacking flavor and lacking heat. To advertise it as something spicy, it was not. Not to worry - I believe everything was fresh in the roll but, it was lacking flavor. As you have read so far, this seems like a 4-4.5 star review. However, what really disappointed me was the price. 2 pieces of nigiri, one hand roll, and one specialty roll. In comparison to your nearest local competitor, your price was about $10-13 more. This is lunch. That place is not open for lunch and you are... ok. I should not be spending well over $30 for lunch. Your next nearest competitor has a extensive lunch menu with nothing more than $15-16. If you are going to open for lunch, you should really consider some type of lunch special. Your food is good, the presentation, even on the to go order, was good, your service is good, the place looks great. Very clean. Love what you did with the place. Just don't think I can afford to eat lunch here too often. Overall, you get 3.5 stars. So, I will mark it 4 just to keep your numbers up. LOL read more

I visited Sushi Kashiwa a few months ago when they were still very new, but the experience was so poor that it's stuck with me and I need to write a review. We were seated immediately and ordered. The ambiance wasn't anything to speak home about, though we could see directly into a room in the back that seemed to be used for storage, and it could have definitely been cleaner. Whatever, I'm sure they were stressed about the opening, that's unimportant. The issue followed next: I received my entree after about 15 minutes, but my father did not. We waited. We waited some more. We ended up waiting almost two hours! Continuing to check in with the server, who just told us "don't worry, it's being prepared now" multiple times (it was NOT being prepared then). It wasn't as if my father ordered everything on the menu, either, he just ordered one of their specialty rolls. To add insult to injury, we watched tables seated after us get served, finish eating, and leave - all before my father ever received his entree, and the server tried to avoid my eye as I tried to wave him over to ask about a status update. We eventually walked out after paying for my entree - with nothing other than a lukewarm "sorry you weren't happy" as we received the check. No offer to comp us or anything. This was a completely unacceptable experience, especially as my father was visiting the bay area. Would never return, and have told my friends not to patronize this restaurant either. The food I ordered was decent, but that means nothing if we felt like we were overlooked in favor of larger tables. read more

Went on a date here last night n left pretty disappointed. Food was solid, restaurant was nice and clean but the service was pretty terrible. The server who helped us got our order wrong. When we told her coworker they gave us the wrong edamame she looked annoyed. She also did not come to check on us till she noticed we were done eating.
