I absolutely love Yunomi Handroll! The ambiance is beautiful; modern, intimate, and relaxed, with the handroll bar making the whole experience feel especially fun. I've tried several handrolls with the spicy option, and they've all been delicious. The spicy salmon is definitely my favorite and the one I look forward to every time! Everything tastes fresh, and I love that the handrolls are prepared and served individually so you can enjoy each one right away. The sautéed green beans with garlic soy are SO good and have become a must-order for me as well. And, of course, I always have to pair everything with a TaKaRa Chu-Hi, either the Fuji Apple or White Peach. Both are so refreshing and go perfectly with the handrolls. Yes just yes! It's our absolutely favorite place to grab a hand roll. I don't even know where to start but lemme try... The spicy salmon hand roll is so extremely fresh and flavorful. Shrimp tempura is simple and a nice palate cleanse between the fish. The spicy albacore just... yes thanks. I can honestly say I postmate them about twice a week minimum but definitely go in person. Decided on Yunomi Handroll for an early dinner and I'm glad I did. Arrived around 4:30pm and was seated right away, restaurant wasn't busy. Counter top seating for everyone (see my pic) and loved the clean, modern interior. Decided on the SIX handrolll set for $30: Tuna, Albacore, Salmon Yellowtail , Scallop and Shrimp Tempura (see my pics). Rolls were generous sized, seaweed was a bit on the oily side -but I didn't mind that. Had the seaweed salad -nice flavor (see my pic). Tried the ceviche (see my pic), but that wasn't my favorite due to it's slight smell (when good quality fish doesn't usually have a scent). Service was nice, checking in with us intermittently. Water glass was always filled -appreciated on such a sweltering hot summer early evening. Each roll was freshly made. I took a few days and went back and forth on this review because there just wasn't enough "good" to come from this meal and the negative aspects are just too grand to ignore. I love my handroll spots like KazuNori, Sogo, Joint, and Umiai. They all have pretty consistent rolls and service that pair together for a great experience. I stopped by Friday around 3:30pm and although almost all the seats were taken by the time I sat down, almost half the diners left by the time my first roll was delivered. So it's fair to say that they were not that busy. Service started off okay with my order being taken and ginger+wasabi plus a hot towel being provided. I started off with the spicy albacore on crispy rice. Although it was hot, the rice was not crispy and more soggy. I did enjoy the albacore topping however especially with the crispy onions. I will say, each hand roll is a good size but some have heavier rice than others, so it's a tad inconsistent. My favorite part though was definitely the seaweed. Each hand roll had the crispiest seaweed that I absolutely loved - every bite hearing and feeling that fresh crispy wrap really made a difference. The tuna hand roll tasted like pretty low grade tuna like you would find in a supermarket. The salmon was a bit chewy. The Negi toro however was amazing. This was practically a perfect hand roll. I expected more out of the Yunomi Special which had Spicy Albacore, Shrimp Tempura, Crunchy Onions, Truffle Soy Sauce. You couldn't taste the "truffle soy sauce" and the spicy albacore got lost with the shrimp tempura being so heavily battered and hot. The Unagi shrimp tempura was a bit better in terms of ratio but the unagi wasn't all that special like you would hope - buttery, soft unagi with a nice char. The Salmon skin was one of the better hand rolls to end my meal, it had a really unique and freshly baked feel and taste. Overall, my meal was WAY too fast, and this is one of the biggest drawbacks to Yunomi. I initially ordered every item at once except for the salmon skin roll, so the first to the last roll in that order took only 16 minutes. My first dish (spicy albacore crispy rice) was delivered at 3:10pm and my last roll at 3:26pm. Sorry but that's just absurd. I'm not in a rush, the restaurant wasn't busy, there was no need for my food to be delivered that fast. After my last roll I ordered one more - the salmon skin - and it took 10 minutes for it to be delivered just because my "chef" had moved down to another party so it took a moment to return to me. What made things worse and more annoying is having rolls delivered before I finished what I was currently eating. And almost every time I couldn't hear or understand what the person was saying when an item was delivered so I had to inspect it to see what it was. He was mumbling, looking away, and just putting no effort into customer service. I wasn't given or asked for more ginger, even though there were at least 4-5 workers constantly in front of me. I noticed there are no "specials" and even the menu itself is pretty limited and basic. Nothing unique or special about these items. At the end when I placed my final order, I was asked if I want the check after the last roll, which was fine so I said yes to that. But before the chef could even return to my area to serve me, the other staff member delivered my check, again as if to rush me out when plenty of seats were open, nobody was waiting, and they weren't closing anytime soon. I'm not sure what vibe they are aiming for here, since the aesthetic and design of the restaurant is truly gorgeous and far more unique and special than what the menu, service, and food deliver. But it seems like they want to be the fast food version of a hand roll bar and that's not what I would recommend or return to. read more

Finally got the chance to try this place and I thought it was okay. I got the 4 cut roll + sashimi box, and my favorite part of the whole box was the yellowtail sashimi. All the rolls are pretty basic but the spicy salmon was my favorite of them all. I do love how it comes packaged in sushi box. All the sauces and labeled and were a yummy my addition to the rolls. Came for our anniversary! Wanted to try something new. My husband found it searching on Yelp. We called the day before and was told they don't take reservations, only a Yelp wait-list. They open at 12 and our ETA was 12:03 (12:10 bc of traffic). So we joined the wait-list at exactly 12. It said there was no wait and it is not typically busy at that time. Arrived 10m after opening and there were no seats available. We probably got seated around 12:40. While we waited we looked at the menu (had to ask twice for it). Outside of the building is nice and clean. There's an outside bench for cooler days, but one person should wait inside so they can call you once seats are ready. The ambience is hip and modern--bar seating. Probably about 25-30 seats. The staff are friendly and attentive. We asked some questions then ordered our handrolls . Server asked how we wanted the handrolls. Spicy or no spicy? Japanese paper, Korean paper, or soy? He recommended Korean paper for most of the rolls, soy paper for baked crab, and spicy for all. We got the 6 set $30, plus baked crab $7.50, spicy shrimp and snow crab $8.50. Then at the end we added the unagi $8.50. Handrolls came out two at a time. They were pretty good, though not amazing. Korean paper was light and crispy, but it would've been nice to try the Japanese paper. I don't remember the spicy shrimp and snow crab at all so they probably minced it :( Note: you could customize each roll based on type of paper, spicy or not. We weren't given that option probably for sake of efficiency. They have two individual bathrooms with community sink. Automatic faucet. My sister really wanted to try this place out for awhile and she brought my boyfriend and I. We all ordered different rolls. I ordered the three hand roll set, my bf ordered the four and my sister ordered the 6. All of it had a really good price and was pretty filling! My favorite was the ceviche appetizer which had a ceviche taste with a mix of raw fish and tbh it was soooo good I kept dipping everything in the remaining sauce. The service was quick and amazing! Ordered Yunomi Handroll off of Postmates for a late dinner tonight and opted for the 5 cut roll box which came with tuna, albacore, salmon, yellowtail, and shrimp tempura (4 pieces each) along with some cucumber and seaweed salads and edamame for $27. I thought the price was very reasonable for the quantity and quality of food. The packaging was well-designed and I enjoyed the salads, especially the sunomono. The edamame was unsalted (would have preferred salted) and was a bit overcooked. I was also disappointed that they didn't give real wasabi although for the price I suppose I'm not surprised. The rolls were all a good ratio of fish to rice and you even have the choice of soy paper wrapped instead of seaweed if you so choose. I think I would have liked it if you got the choice of rolls as it would have been nice to get one or two with avocado. Overall it was a good delivery experience and I would order again. It's counter seating and the staff work as a team, very efficient and streamlined. Menu is QR code and focus on hand rolls. Really good attentive service. The rolls are all made to order and delivered immediately to once made. The fish is fresh and the rice and nori or soy paper great as well. The apps were all tasty as well, tried cucumber salad, green beans and shrimp tempura all quickly made fresh and delicious. Was impressed! First the decor and esthetic is beautiful here, and has a large bar seating so recommend to go in a small group or a solo date! The set menus are a good variety and you can make some minor substitutions if you'd like. They also have the option of seafood wrapper or the white soy paper with sesame seeds. Place is small and it's only bar seating. Menu is not that big either, mostly hand rolls but they also have some appetizers. The albacore crispy rice Is a must, Hand rolls are made in front of you and the seaweed was fresh, crispy and the seafood was all fresh and tasted great. From day one, I was drawn to the aesthetic, it's clean, modern, and welcoming, and everything from the freshness and quality of the fish to the service has been consistently great. We first tried the Culver City location for a lunch meeting, and once we realized it's right next to our house, we were so excited to have such a great local handroll spot nearby. We tend to stick to our favorites because they're just that good. The ceviche is a must, the sauce is incredible, the fish is super fresh, and it has the perfect palette of flavors. Then we usually order three handrolls. I always go for the tuna and salmon, and for the third I'll rotate between yellowtail or scallops. And you can't skip the Yunomi handroll, it's a standout every time. One thing to know about the seaweed, there are two options. If you want the crunchier version, ask for the spicy seaweed but without making the roll "spicy style" (which means no shredded spicy fish added on top). P.S. We've tried takeout a couple of times, but it's just not the same experience, the cut rolls taste slightly different. The handrolls are definitely best enjoyed fresh at the counter, so I highly recommend dining in. read more

We come here at least once a week since it is practically down the street from us! One of my fav handroll spots in LA! First come first serve so towards dinner time it gets a little busier. You can add your name on their yelp waitlist which is nice but we usually hit this spot for lunch to skip the crowds! Inside is sushi bar style with high seats. Super simple interior. Their fish is always super fresh and I love the rolls being made right in front of you! Our go to for starters are the albacore crunch and the shrimp tempura. It has the perfect amount of sauce. Yunomi is a solid spot, but parking is definitely a bit challenging. There's no dedicated parking that I noticed, so I ended up parking in the nearby residential area. Luckily, the walk through the neighborhood was pleasant, so I didn't mind too much, but I can't imagine trying to find parking here on a busy weekend. The restaurant itself is relatively spacious, with one large counter in the center where you sit and order your hand rolls. I came for a late lunch, and it wasn't busy at all, so I was seated right away. I ordered the set of six hand rolls. The ones I enjoyed the most were the scallop, shrimp tempura, and salmon. The rest were fine, but didn't really stand out to me. I'll admit I might be a bit biased--my personal favorite hand roll spot is ROL which is farther away. I do think Yunomi offers better value for the price. The customer service was great, friendly and efficient. My water was refilled consistently, and when I asked for the check, it was brought out quickly, which I appreciated. Overall, it's a good place to stop by if you're in the area and craving hand rolls. That said, I do think there are better hand roll spots out there. read more

They are straight up yummy. Also try the green tea. It's served with a traditional tea pot and an hour glass timer for optimal flavor. Overall, Yunomi pays attention to the small details. My most underwhelming experience has been when I ordered the standard seaweed. TIP: order the handroll sets with the Korean seaweed. It's salted and crispy which enhances the flavor of the handrolls. We had an early Friday dinner at Yunomi recently. Located on Riverside Dr in Toluca Lake. Located on the same side but a block west of Trader Joe's. We found street parking around the corner quite easily. For appetizers, we ordered sunomono ($7) and albacore sashimi with crunchy onion ($17). Both were great starters. The sunomono was nice and crisp. Good flavor. The albacore topped with thinly fried onions in ponzu sauce was tasty. Both the lady and i ordered the 4 handroll set ($22 ea) and that comes with tuna, albacore, salmon and shrimp tempura. The lady ordered her set on soy paper and elected for her rolls to be spicy. Tuna handroll was good, as was the albacore and salmon. The shrimp tempura handroll was very tasty and comes drizzy'd with tempura sauce inside. We liked the set we went with. The lady added another salmon handroll while I added a blue crab ($8.50) and and a negitoro ($11). The blue crab was delicious despite having a stronger flavor than other blue crab handrolls I've had. Still creamy crabby goodness. The negitoro was so good. Maybe the best roll I had that meal. So glad to finally go to this location! Just as good as the one in Culver. I shared a sake with my friend along with the albacore on rice cake. So good and fresh. Then I had the 5 hand roll option. I switched out the shrimp tempura for the yellow tail. Everything was great. I only wish they let us sit and not have to wait for our whole party to arrive when it was nearly empty. I've been on a bit of a sushi/hand roll craze lately, and this spot has quickly climbed to the top of my LA list. The specialty rolls really stood out -- the Yunomi, Salmon, and Snow Crab were my favorites. The Yunomi had more of a cut roll vibe but was packed with flavor. The Salmon was fresh, simple, and exactly what I look for in a hand roll, while the Snow Crab had that creamy touch of mayo that hit just right. What really set this place apart for me were the appetizers. The green beans were phenomenal, the crispy rice with albacore (plus a hint of truffle soy!) was a refreshing twist, and the tempura rock shrimp was so good I could've easily finished the entire plate myself. I also appreciated that they offer soy paper as an alternative to seaweed -- I always forget how much I enjoy that swap. The iced green tea was light and refreshing. The service was quick and friendly, and although seating is mostly at the bar (with two accessible lower-bar spots), they've made good use of the space with a decent amount of bar seats (no tables). Came here for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We ordered the 5 handroll combo, an appetizer, and then each of us got an extra handroll. Everything tasted really good, and that was the right amount of food for the 2 of us. Next time, I'd prob skip the appetizer, as it wasn't worth $18 for the sashimi platter. It's nice to sit at the bar for quick service and see the food being made. Nothing was special about the service and it was very much just handing you the food and telling you what type of fish it was. The cloudy sake we had was really good, so I'd get that next time as well. Glad that we tried out this place, and would be happy to return in the future. Then, we shared some hand rolls -- the Baked Crab, the Soft Shell Crab, and the Spicy Tuna & Shrimp Tempura. EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS! Super fresh, too! She never smiled once and had a very unpleasant attitude ,not only toward customers, but also toward a lady simply asking about her pickup order. There was absolutely no sense of customer service. We were actually waiting in line but decided to leave because of her attitude. A welcoming smile and basic kindness can make such a big difference in a dining experience. My go-to order never changes: shrimp tempura, albacore sashimi with onions, edamame, and then hand rolls--lobster, spicy tuna with tempura, baked crab (soy paper), spicy shrimp, and the Yunomi. If I'm extra hungry, I double up on the Yunomi and lobster. Those are my top two. Only thing I'd tweak--give more ginger and wasabi.
