My fiance and I tried Sushi Kazu for the first time last week and we were BLOWN AWAY by the quality of fish and the presentation! My parents own a Japanese sushi restaurant in California, so I grew up on having fresh fish prepared by my Japanese father. I was craving sushi really bad last week, and heard that Sushi Kazu was also run by a Japanese chef and had been in business for 18 years! I had to try it. We ordered way too much food for 2 people, but we were so happy with everything we got! The salmon (my favorite) was fresh, buttery, and delicious. I was pleasantly surprised that the chef gave us yellowtail belly instead of just yellowtail, which was a huge treat!! The unagi was sweet and savory, -- my one recommendation would be to grill it so that it's got a bit of char on it-- SO GOOD. I also tried an order of the tamago - which I have to say I almost cried because it tasted and looked just like my dad's. This is how you know it's AUTHENTIC FOOD. We also ordered several rolls to try - the Sashimi Tempura roll was still crispy, warm from the fryer, and amazing. The New York was one of my favorites, with spicy tuna, tempura, crab, and avocado. We also tried the Godzilla, the Crazy Roll, and of course, a good old-fashioned California roll. Overall, I was so impressed by all the food and the fantastic service! This was my first time splurging on sushi since moving to Colorado in 2018, and man, I was really missing out!! The kitchen/hot food menu wasn't on their website the first time we ordered, but we picked up a to-go menu so I'm excited to try my other Japanese favorites soon! We'll definitely be back!! Friendly authentic Japanese owners (Yama & Miho, we asked). Recommended by friends, glad we went. Open sushi-chef bar was rollong out beautiful trays all evening. Sachi was our nice server. We had delicious spicy tuna roll plus salmon, shrimp and scallop sushi. Balls of octopus were succulent. Tempora shrimp and veggies were nice to break up the sushi. Both deserts were yummy. Took home miso and hamachi kama, also delicious. All sushi places are pricey for quality and this place was average for that category but I could have made it more affordable by selecting plates and combos but we just wanted to just pick around. Comfortable atmosphere. We were almost the first ones there at 5:30, but did not get that weird empty feeling at all, probably because it is a smaller place. I've been to Japan several times and other American sushi restaurants, and I'm glad the owners wisely traded the floating plates for a more personal experience. Good thing we arrived early because it filled up to a such a busy level by 6:30 or 7 on a Saturday, we had to ask for more water as the wasabi is plentiful. ;) We heard even the kids laughing instead of the usual whining or crying. It's March and I've been uncomfortably chilly at the last 6 restaurants, but I noticed right away I didn't need my over-sweater here which was nice. Yum yum yum! I had craved sushi for days, and i was not dissapointed at all. My 2 sushi rolls were delicious, and the sashimi was fresh and satisfying. Plus, they have mochi ice cream :) The enviroment was perfect, nice and quiet, and the sushi chef was awesome. A great sushi discovery in our local neighborhood! The place is no frills environment - just a standard (and affordable) neighborhood eatery. We were greeted with a cucumber noodle salad to try along with a sushi menu, regular menu, and specials. We selected 3 rolls and an appetizer for 2 people - and we couldn't even quite finish. The rolls were much bigger than other sushi joints. We had the scallop dynamite appetizer - this was probably our least favorite as it was tiny scallops and so mostly mushrooms. Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad but just paled in comparison to our sushi rolls. Also it came last (after our rolls) since it had to cook. We had the philly roll (probably best I've ever had with big portions of each ingredient), the crispy roll and the bronco roll. I also loved the bronco roll which was huge! And the sauce on the crispy role was yummy. We were given orange segments with the check for dessert as well. We will definitely be back to get our sushi fix. read more

I'm a little sad that I didn't get to try more of the sushi and sashimi as I was here with a big group. We opted for rolls as we had some members who weren't big fans of raw fish. Based on the dishes that I tried, it was good. I honestly can't name the rolls that were ordered, but I was pleased with all of them. I will definitely need to come back to try the raw dishes and update this review. For now, I would recommend this place for anyone in the area. Cute little hole in the wall with fast and very friendly service. Prices are very reasonable and they're vegetarian/vegan friendly. Veggie rolls are basic, like your avocado, asparagus or sweet potato rolls, nothing fancy like you'll find at Blue Sake. The maki rolls aren't rolled very tight, so they tend to fall apart a little as you pick them up, but that's minor in my opinion. It's the flavor that counts, and their sushi rice is fluffy and just vinegary enough, the way I like it. If you don't see an item on the menu, just ask and they'll make it. Definitely give them a try if you're just looking for a low-key dinner. read more

Well, I broke my promise. It has been over a year since I ventured over to this side of town. However, I made it back for another dose of sushi bliss! Kazu-san instantly recognized me when I walked in and warmly greeted me, in Japanese. I am impressed that even though I only make it in about once a year now, he still remembers me. Back when I was a regular, he taught me a little Japanese. I was glad that I was able to dig up a few sentences from my memory and compliment his sushi skills. As per usual, I ordered one of the lunch specials and a spicy scallop hand roll. When I turned in my order, Kazu remembered my fondness for Kampachi (I hope I spelled it right!) which is baby Amber Jack aka Yellowtail. He tempted me by telling me he had some in stock. I couldn't resist an order of that as well. It was just as wonderful as I had remembered. Thick and juicy cuts of super fresh fish that danced on my tongue. Every bite melted in my mouth. It was fantastic! I absolutely love this place. It's sad that it's on the opposite side of town from my current job so I can't make it over here for lunch more often. Shhh....if we all keep writing such good reviews everyone else is going to find out about this place and we wont be able to get a table! I have driven by hundreds of times and said "oh sushi we should try that" but strip mall sushi never really draws me in. I even once had the owner of a popular sushi restaurant in Colorado tell me his favorite place was here but I just never put the two together and realized this was the place. Once I did we ran over and never regretted it. It is small and not your flashy sushi joint. It is in fact in an older strip mall and it looks like you would expect. It is small but there is a good chunk of sushi bar seats. The menu sounded delicious so we ordered a crap ton of sushi and waited. Everything was really good. Usually when I try a new sushi place I order a roll that I really wish I hadn't but that didn't happen here. My only complaint is that the rolls all fell apart way too easy. I am a bit mystified because clearly the chef knew how to make sushi and knew how to make sushi well and sushi that falls apart more of a beginners problem. The quality of the sushi really made it falling apart not a big deal. It all found its way into my mouth that is for sure. One thing I also really liked was the waitress made fun of my boyfriend. I know it sounds strange but I often find that I don't get a lot of personality out of sushi waitresses. I don't know if it is a cultural thing or something else but they are usually pretty down to business. The waitress here had some spunk and I really enjoyed it. By far the best part was when our bill came and the total for 3 people was slightly less than what we usually spend on two. The combination of yummy sushi, good value and it's hidden gem status left me literally saying "We should go back there again soon" about 20 times in the next 48 hours. My family and I have been going to this sushi place for probably about 8 years now and we absolutely love it. It's a small family owned sushi place, the sushi chef Kazu is very friendly and nice! I love their cold crab noodle salad. I've been to a lot of sushi restaurants and they are still the only ones that serve it. It's like a thin rice noodle with cucumber mixed with a creamy sauce. Super delicious! I always get their California roll as well. It's just the perfect seasoning and it's a big roll. I recommend getting the crispy roll if you don't like raw fish. Magic mushroom is also one of my favorite at Kazu. Honestly I like most the their menu, though there are sometimes that the fish isn't that fresh (only down fall). If you are ever around during lunch they have really good prices for lunch specials. They have a different lunch special everyday! I feel like the price is reasonable and you get big pieces of sushi. Sushi Kazu, not to be mistakened for another restaurant by a similar name, is located in an unassuming strip of mom and pop shops. This place is Japanese owned and operated. You can expect excellent quality sushi as well as some off the menu items such as hamachi kama (yellowtail collar) and Japanese red snapper (super fatty during winter months!). I have also tried their nabeyaki udon and again, top notch in taste and temperature. I could probably go on and on about the food but I'll let the pictures do the talking. Their dynamite sauce and ponzu sauce are homemade! This is one place where it doesn't matter if you sit in a booth or at the sushi bar, you will receive the same excellent service! From the outside this place is very unassuming. Never would have guessed the food would be as good as it was. My husband was in the mood for sushi lunch, so we stopped in here and really enjoyed it. The fish is really fresh, and the rolls were pretty innovative and tasty. The restaurant itself is fairly small, but well decorated. And the service was very friendly. A great bet for quality, reasonably priced sushi. The Nigiri rolls are good sized with thick cuts, and the specialty rolls are pretty large too. The restaurant is ran by a real Japanese sushi chef, and the food displays impressive skill. I personally love the atmosphere. A small, casual shop with Kazu-san working behind the sushi bar and a few waitresses helping him out. Feels like I'm in Japan. Prices are very reasonable and happy hour is about 10-20% off regular prices. My only complaint is that on my most recent visit, a few of my Nigiri orders were a little cold, as if the fish hasn't spent enough time getting off the ice. I will give them the benefit of the doubt because I walked in the minute their doors opened for the day. I've passed this place daily on my way to and from the office and always told myself that I should try it. Someone had recommended it to the wife recently as well. We try to have sushi every couple of weeks so we finally stopped in. From the outside you might have hesitations however once inside it's actually quite cozy, somewhat small but a nice sushi bar. We had a nice variety of rolls, gyoze, hand rolls and such. All of it was very fresh and the hand rolls were amazing. My recommendation would the the spicy tuna hand roll. The gyoza was perfect, seared just right. The wait staff was very attentive and how cool is it to have the owner Kazu actually whipping up all the sushi. As mentioned in a few other reviews, the rolls aren't very tight and can fall apart if you don't give it that extra squeeze with your chopsticks. So, don't be fooled by the outside appearance. Five stars absolutely. This place is not only cool but has some good sushi. It looks weird and kinda sketchy outside the place but when you walk in it's quite different. Although the place is a bit old looking it's a quite cute interior. I like their panda or whatever creature they have. The old man making the sushi was really nice and asked if we were okay. He sure did know what he was doing. I came in Sunday and it's happy hour all day which is amazing in my book. I got a couple hand rolls, nigiris, and some rolls which were not on the happy hour menu but well worth it. This fish was FRESH. You know it's legit when there's a little wasabi in there already i gotta say this is the best sushi I've had in Colorado. I haven't been to sushi den but this place is well worth it. We enjoyed our second visit here. The sushi was fresh and it was nice eating there where the chef and staff were Japanese. It gave it an authentic, rare flare to it. They made our order one item at a time, which was different than what we were used to...but it gave us an opportunity to enjoy each selection more thoroughly and ensured each one was truly 'fresh' when we ate it. I went to Sushi Katsu with my family, and it was to die for. It was strange that I liked it because I don't really like restaurants, either because of the food looks weird, or a restaurant got my order wrong. What I'm trying to say is that I'm really picky, but this restaurant got me. I would recommend this to everyone in the world if I could. After living in Colorado almost 7 years, I finally caved in and decided to try the oxymoron of 'fresh Colorado sushi'. First, the place is lovely. The outside exterior is a bit questionable. But once you enter, the place is clean, with lovely Japanese artwork. It was a Monday night, so it was not busy and the waitress greeted me right away and showed me to the bar. I tried the happy hour special of tuna, salmon and seaweed sushi. It was not fresh at all. However, it did not smell. It was in a weird limbo state. I then tried the spider roll, and the deep fried crab was almost beer battered and thickness. It was certainly not a traditionally light, tempura style better. Plus, it was a bit overcooked, which left a weird aftertaste. The saving grace for my meal was a lovely older Japanese man behind the bar making the sushi. He was sweet, attentive and truly cared about my experience. Unfortunately, I did not see the waitress after I sat down. So I cannot say the same for her. The food was mediocre or basic at best. I have no idea how Coloradans can continually crew up Yelp ratings for ethnic foods. read more

This is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Parker. The food is delicious, the staff is so friendly, and the place is always warm and inviting. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but I'd consider it one of Parker's best-kept secrets. There are so many options on the menu, and Chef Kazu is always happy to take special requests and make anything else you could want. Their sushi is truly fantastic, just as good as the sushi I've had while traveling in Okinawa, Japan. They are very traditional, so if you're looking for Americanized asian fusion, go somewhere else. But don't look down on the rest of their menu. Their dumplings are better than all of the other Asian restaurants in the area, their tempura is always perfection, and their seaweed salad is so light and refreshing. They serve some great quality green tea, and their desserts are to die for. Every dish I try becomes my new favorite, you really can't go wrong with this place. Recently, they've implemented a new punch card system where you can get $15 off after your 10th visit, so don't forget to ask about that. Their sushi is always reasonably priced, and the happy hour specials are a great deal. It's important to note that during their happy hour periods they offer a separate menu with their happy hour specials. If you want the happy hour deal, make sure you're writing on the happy hour menu and not the regular one. read more

Hands down my favorite sushi restaurant in the centennial/greenwood village area. Main reason is that this is an authentic, Japanese restaurant serving classic sushi dishes, unlike most sushi restaurants in the area which are not authentically Japanese. It comes down to the little details, like the tempura batter, the umami in the dipping sauce, and flavors in the ponzu. Plus, their waitresses are always super nice and provide good service. read more
