It was our first time visiting this place and the experience was so so. Except for the fried rice, all other dishes were small. The soup was very spicy and the waiter never asked us about how spicy we wanted to be. The tenderness of the glass noodle (Jap Chae) was about right, but the dish was a bit too salty for us. The ribs were very yummy and not chewy at all. The rice portion that came with the soup and ribs were reasonable, but the rice was a bit too hard for me. The restaurant was not crowded, but the food took awhile to come. The bathroom was well maintained and kept clean. Street parking only, but free parking after 6 pm. read more

This is the restaurant that was a long time stand out on Penn Avenue in the Strip District and has since moved to the smaller location downtown where they are now. In a block of downtown Pittsburgh on Smithfield Street which is otherwise pretty dumpy, Sushi Kim 2 stands out on appearance alone. They've done a nice job to brighten their restaurant space, starting with the stairway leading up to their second floor location and in the inviting dining room area. On to the food. Three of us had dinner yesterday. Two dining companions had Kal Bi Kui which I'm told was very good. I had Kim's Spicy Combo Roll with salmon, yellow tail, tuna and crab, and it was excellent. Been wanting to try this place ever since i fell in love with Kimchi Jjigae and it was absolutely delicious and tasted very authentic. I can't say enough how kind and sweet the staff were... it made the experience that much more enjoyable. Not sure if the owner will see this, but my only request would be that the Banchan served with meals be a bit more substantial - it was so delicious i just wanted more! One of our favorite restaurants in Pgh. We ordered our usual: Haemul pageon (seafood pancake), kalbi (bbq beef short ribs), mandu guk (similar to wonton soup), and bul-gogi sushi rolls. Of course it was accompanied by pan chan. The reason for only 4 stars is the meager portion of the kalbi - probably only about 1/4 lb of meat for the $20+ entree price. However everything was delicious as always and our waiter was charming. read more

This is the new incarnation of the old Korean restaurant, Sushi Kim. The downtown location means that one will probably have some issues with parking. We ate on Saturday evening and the place had 5 tables occupied. For anyone that knows how deserted Downtown Pittsburgh is on a weekend day, this will come as a surprise. We were a party of four & shared a Korean pancake as an appetizer. The pancake was big as a medium-sized pizza & had seafood baled into a kind of a cheese. It was delicious. One of our party had the fried rice served with egg & shrimp on hot stoneware. The dish itself lacks any flavors and one adds sauces to it to get the flavor you want. Everything was delicious! Meat was tender and juicy! And love that each piece had a bone-in which is how I can tell it's real kalbi and not some mixed meat. Soup was good. Had lots of mini shrimp. Nicely spiced and full of flavor. We also ordered the fried dumplings and shumai but ate them before I remember to take a photo. Owners were very nice! Lovely couple. Space was very cute, cozy and great for a romantic date. As for the side dishes, we received four pieces of kimchi, and the turnip + broccoli banchan were rather bland. Sush Kim has been a staple in Pittsburgh. At one time there were only a handful of restaurants that served it. Now one can find Sushi everywhere. But Sushi Kims is different. More old school. It is a Mom and Pop place. it is a family owned restaurant. Mr Kim prepares Sush, Sashimi and the kitchen staff prepare the Korean cuisine like I remember when I was stationed in Busan. Great place! Our Korean language club visited Sushi Kim 2 this weekend. The service was amazing and owners are so nice; they even took photos of our group for us. The food was delicious, much better than some of the other Korean restaurants in Pittsburgh. They gave us lots of side dishes for free too. We were surprised to see that there were not many customers at this amazing place. I think not many people are aware of their new location, but Sushi Kim continues to provide wonderful Korean food. Sushi Kim returns! I came to appreciate Sishi through Kim's amazing creation. Consistently delicious with reasonable servings and prices. The new location offers BYOB which only makes things better. Having recently re-opened I. The CBD, I was pleased to see familiar faces who welcomed us as regulars. The location is the second floor over Bea's Taco. The space is smaller than the previous Strip location, but I must say I preferred the bar space and enjoyed sitting near windows looking out to Smithfield. A brighter space than before and welcoming. Each component of our meal was served swiftly. The food showed the same quality of ingredients and care as I expected. Truly a wonderful meal. Service was great all around. Hamachi sashimi and fatty fish nigiri were excellent. Since it's a Korean establishment we also ordered a seafood pancake and it was very delicious. The sour sauce it came with, kind of like ponzu sauce, was an excellent pairing with the pancake. Side dish of kimchi and egg fried tofu were tasty. Did not like the fish pancake side dish.
