ORDER Sashimi Platter Most of the cuts were pretty fresh. A couple here and there on the bit slimier side. Presentation was beautiful! Pretty tasty overall! VIBES This place is located on the second floor, so you'll have to go up some steep steps. There's a decent amount of seating with tables and chairs. Pretty clean and well lit throughout. Minimal decorations of potted plants and vases around. Gives very cozy, family vibes. SERVICE Everything came out quickly. Service was quick about not too much interaction. Didn't really get a check in while I was eating - not sure if it was because I was there solo or...?

Spent 50$ on 5 rolls just to throw it all away the place is small but nice on the inside. We got carry out and when we tasted our rolls the fish did not taste fresh. My wife has had good experiences here in the past so maybe it's just an off day?

A gem of Pittsburgh that deserves a more prominent location, Sushi Kim 2 has a variety of Japanese and Korean dishes. This particular visit, these was only ramen and Korean fried chicken (owner assured me in a few weeks, the full menu would be back). Got the ramen and was pleasantly surprised - super rich and savory broth, pork cooked just tender and right, and lots of mushroomy-umami flavor to it too. They didn't miss. The room and owner were super friendly and asked how I enjoyed the dish. If you're in downtown Pittsburgh and like Ramen, please consider this spot. Can't wait to come back and try more.

Ordered takeout from here when traveling to Pittsburgh for work and was NOT disappointed! Such great flavor, quality and portion sizes. Really loved the spicy sauce they add to their roles. It was ready promptly and I was pleased with the ambiance in the restaurant when I came in to get my takeout. Such a sweet couple who owns it. I'd definitely come back to dine in here or get to go again - the menu is big and I can't wait to try more sushi!

Happened to stumble upon this place after the 2 other places I typically go to for sushi in downtown were busy during lunch rush and I am so glad I stopped by! This place is definitely hidden, look for the sign outside and take the stairs inside to the right, it is located on top of the Mexican restaurant there as well. At the middle of the flight of stairs there is a sign that says Sushi Kim 2. Inside, you'll be greeted by their kind staff and I love supporting our locally owned businesses! Very spacious inside and can definitely accompany large groups. Since I was meeting with a friend during our lunch break we needed our meal to be less than an hour. Menu was very large and full of Korean dishes that sounded great! I'll have to come back for the kimchi jjigae. My friend and I ordered our sushi rolls and food was out pretty quickly. The salmon in my salmon avocado roll was very fresh and the portion was a lot! I was pleasantly surprised. Some of the best quality fish I've had in the area. I also ordered 2 sides of their house made kimchi and it was delicious - a perfect side to my sushi. This place is very unassuming but I love finding these small but awesome places. If you're in the mood for sushi or Korean go check it out!! I was in and out during lunch and I'll be back again with more friends in the future.

Great experience. Kind and friendly people and quick service. I was the only person but it was also 5pm on a Wednesday. Some booths and mostly tables - small and quaint. I loved my seaweed salad, in fact I ordered two. I didn't like the spider roll (it had deep fried crap and I don't like fried - my bad). The chef asked me what I like and told him lighter and healthier. I went with a tuna roll. It was perfect. I really appreciated their kindness in making me something new. Primarily the restaurant serves Korean food but good options if you want a little sushi. Highly recommend!

This appears to be a nice mom and pop Korean place. Given the quality of the reviews, I was expecting really great tasting food. But the food was just okay. I would rate it about 3.5 stars The sushi boat was pretty good. Some of the pieces of sashimi were pretty good, but nothing to write home about. The beef bulgogi was decent but again not particularly great. The service was fine -- it's a mom and pop place and the ambiance is modest.

Has some REALLY tasty sushi here plus some fab dumplings. The place is on the second floor. Very clean, nice interior. It was Friday eve and they were busy but not overrun so it was a peaceful dining experience as well. They brought me a lovely bowl of starter soup complimentary. I would definitely visit again. The prices were also great!

LOVE this place so much. It's hands down some of the best sushi and Korean food in Pittsburgh, and the owners are incredibly sweet and adorable :') I randomly stumbled upon this place with some friends as we were waiting for our piercing appointment at Pittsburgh Tattoo & Piercing right next door, and we decided to have dinner here as we waited. It's on the second floor so might be hard to find at first. We didn't expect much because the place looked pretty small, but it exceeded my expectations so much that I've been back at least twice since then. I lived really far rom this restaurant so it was always a trek back every time I wanted to come back here, but it was so worth it for the food. It's a mom-and-pop style restaurant that serves both sushi and Korean food, and they do both really well (though I'm more biased towards the Korean food). It's hard to find good traditional Korean food in Pittsburgh. They serve all the classics, including manduguk (which is my all-time favorite dish to get here). The manduguk is seriously SO good. I'm not normally a huge fan of soup, but I literally got this every time I came here because it was that good. The flavor of the broth and the dumplings in it are just fantastic. It's a huge portion too. I also love their seafood pancakes, bulgogi, and soondubu. Their sushi is really fresh and they have a lot of set & a la carte options. The vibe inside is really peaceful and makes you feel like you're eating at a Korean grandmother's house. Cant recommend this place enough. It's such a hidden gem!

We were told by friends that this is the best Korean restaurant in Pittsburgh so we came for lunch. Everything was delicious and satisfied our Korean craving. Definitely on the pricey side... like NYC prices. Owner/server is funny and entertaining with his jokes. Love that it's BYOB. We ordered the - haemul pajeon - kimchi jeyuk- very small serving for price - ojinguh bokkeum- very small serving - galbitang - daktoritang - sushi

Don't be fooled by the humble looking stair case before the entrance. Everything about this place was fantastic. The sushi had amazing taste and each bite was full of fish. The salmon and yellowtail quality was very high. I even think they make their own spiced soy sauce. I sat at the sushi bar to wait for my take out and wished I could sit and stay longer! The staff were so kind and friendly. Will definetely be back to try more items. Another customer had tempura and it smelled amazing. The vibe is very relaxed but also clean and polished.

I was expecting more and my expectations were too high. I've been craving Koren BBQ since we came back from Hawaii but haven't found anything close. I really wanted to try the beef. There was hardly enough meat or sauce for flavor. For $15 I was still hungry. The spicy tuna roll was very good. The quality was top notch and will order sushi from there again. The inside was setup nicely and servers were friendly. I will continue my search for comparable BBQ.

I've been generally impressed by the quality of the sushi. We ordered takeout this time, and everything was extremely well packaged and presented. In terms of the food, we focussed on fairly standard maki rolls: a spicy salmon roll and a spicy California roll. Both were very nicely done. We also tried the veg farm roll, and that was a nice vegetable forward option. Not life changing, but nicely done. We also opted for a vegetable poke bowl, and that was also good. Basically the same combination of vegetables as the veg farm roll, but in a bowl format. The bowl was good, but it was lacking some sort of sauce or glaze that might have pulled things together. It was easy enough to toss on some condiments of our own, but the bowl could have been better. Overall, I this is my favorite sushi destination in Squirrel Hill. It's very clear that the owners are invested in turning out a high quality experience, and that's exactly the type of business I like to support.

Their selection of appetizers were great, and the quality of each was stellar. We attempted to try quite a few of them, and still have many we want to try. In our group, the tofu with an amazing dashi broth, the crab puffs, "sexy jalepenos", tempura kani, and the gyoza were the standouts. As I stated, though...everything we had was awesome. We all ordered a different ramen, and then shared. They were all phenomenal. The steak teriyaki was also great. Sushi wise, we didn't get to try as many as we had hoped. We were too busy reordering the appetizers. We did try the Crazy Mango roll, and ended up reordering that because it was so good. My kids were with me, and they love all things Mango, and this was phenomenal. For dessert, we had a few orders (and reorders!) of the fried bananas. Overall, I cannot speak higher of our experience. It is very clean, well kept up on, and the service was phenomenal. Quality wise, you can tell how much effort they put into the place purely on their presentation. I had to remark many times about how utterly beautiful some of their dishes were. This was not like our other AYCE experiences where they just rush food out to you. They actually put effort into their craft here, and it is quite obvious. We will definitely be back, and look forward to trying new things that we didn't get to before!

My usual order is the chicken katsu bento box, which comes with a good portion of crunchy sliced chicken katsu, rice, two dumplings, a California roll, and miso soup. It feels like a solid, filling meal with enough variety to make it satisfying. The only downside with my most recent takeout order was the sauce placed in the middle of the container. I'm not sure exactly what it was, and after tasting it, it wasn't really for me. Because of the layout of the takeout container, some of it spilled into the rice and rolls. Next time, I'd probably ask for that sauce on the side in a separate container.

The energy is good vibes only and the most important rule is no complaints. It is only joy and a shared experience of trying things you wouldn't normally splurge on. If you break the rule, you don't get invited back! On this particular night, I was 2 months postpartum and naturally ready to eat and drink all things sinful during pregnancy. Having 2 kids at home and a dutiful dad to watch them, I did not do the responsible thing, make a reservation weeks in advance. I highly recommend that you do this for this high end and highly sought sushi experience. I managed to get lucky and snag my group a 4:00 pm table for 4. I'm sure what you are thinking is that is incredibly too early to eat, but look at it this way - 2 of us have small children and truthfully eating fancy food while our husbands put the kids to bed and making it home just in time to snuggle up and watch tv ended up being absolutely perfect. First, the view is insane. You are perched atop a mountain overlooking 3 rivers converging. It's gorgeous. You will take a picture. Second, the service is outstanding. I've actually been twice this year just to confirm my first experience wasn't a fluke. Extremely attentive staff who make you believe they want you to have the best culinary experience possible, maybe they actually do! We ordered nearly everything on the menu. My favorite dish is the yellowtail jalapeno. It is unreal good. I also tried uni, which was very unique. Probably not something I need to indulge in every time, but still very cool. Our group enjoyed sharing all of our plates with each other. I left feeling so satisfied. It is an understatement to say that Otaru is excellent. We talked about this place for months afterward, with longing. It is definitely one of the best places to take guests from out of town to show them the finer side of Pittsburgh. I'm already looking forward to my next visit and it will probably always be at 4:00 pm.

SO GOOD. Prices are steep but expected for location and quality of food…read more We went for my husband's birthday and sat at the bar downstairs, overlooking the gorgeous view of the city. It was shockingly not busy until about 630pm and they open at 4. There is no valet, just street parking. They provided complimentary edamame which had a great little spicy kick. I ordered the sour, the yuzu gave it a nice fresh citrus taste. My husband had a scotch and Coke. We decided to order the experience which began with a tartar (salmon, tuna and yellowtail on a bed of tuna). Amazing. We then had a two piece sashimi with jalapeño and crispy potato in a sauce that was similar to Italian dressing. This was our favorite of the entire night. Next was a shrimp tasting. It had shaved cucumber and seaweed in a light brown sauce, perhaps a mirin. It was okay, like a cold miso. We then had a dish I had only seen videos of called Chawanmushi. It was like an eggy flan served hot. My husband was not a fan but I was. Then was the first nigiri which the bartender was kind enough to split for us. It included 4 light pieces of sushi. After that there was a cold infused tomato palate cleanser and the second nigiri with "darker" fish. It was all delicious. After that was a fatty tuna hand roll (like a sushi taco) which was amazing as well. And last for the savory items, a soft shell crab which was very, very good. The yellow sauce tasted like the yellow of a potato salad with tastes that mimicked mayo, mustard and pickles. We ordered another round of drinks and I had a dirty martini which they called The New 32. The last item is the red bean dessert but we opted to order more food and had the Treasure Box ($78) which had 9 different sashimis. There were a few repeats from the experience portion but we were happy to have the first sashimi item again. And last, we had the red bean dessert as well as a complimentary tiramisu dessert for the husband's birthday. The bill was just over $300 which was expected for the location, amount of food and overall quality and experience.
