My boyfriend and I have been going to this place at least three times a month for the last 3 years. He's 6'8" and can eat at least 10 rolls, so there's no way they don't know who we are by now. We always tip well and give the sushi chefs at least $10 or more on the way out. As a sushi lover, I am aware this is not the greatest sushi but it's a good deal and pretty good, except for last week. We usually visit on the weekend but went in on a Tuesday afternoon. After ordering at least four rolls each, all of which were very sloppily made and barely cut all the way through, my boyfriend ordered three more rolls, one of which is his favorite: the spider roll. He took a bite of the spider roll and after swallowing a bit, spat the rest out onto the plate. He claimed that something tasted rotten. At first, we thought it might be the avocado inside the roll, as it looked a little brown. We did some investigating and determined it was actually the soft shell crab that had gone bad. Needless to say, he did not finish that roll. When the waiter came to take our plates, he explained that he'd have to charge for the left over food. My boyfriend, not wanting to make a scene and give them the benefit of the doubt, tried to explain very quietly that the crab was no longer safe to eat. Unfortunately, it was obvious that the waiter did not fully understand and we couldn't make out his responses very well either. He ended up taking the plate away in anger. When he returned with the bill, there was a charge for the uneaten roll. At this point, we were very annoyed. We called the waiter over again and let him know we would not be paying the extra charge. The waiter argued with us, in very broken English, and seemed unwilling to budge. At this point, my boyfriend explained his issue with the food again, but much louder, partly because he was angry but also because he wanted to warn the other diners. This seemed to get through to the waiter and he returned with a revised bill with the charge removed. Honestly, I feel that we should have received a discount on our bill, considering the fact that my boyfriend could have gotten sick (thankfully, he didn't). I'm very disappointed and will not be going back. The way in which this situation was handled, especially considering our history with this establishment, is simply unacceptable. read more

Best sushi around so far. I'm from California and can say this place is great. Very cute and comfortable atmosphere. Very clean. The waitresses are the nicest!! They can get a bit behind when it's busy but it's worth the wait. We came in kinda late one night and they even offered to let us take our last few pieces home with us at no charge. We just left sushi king . Our family went for a mother's day dinner. We love sushi . We have be to this restaurant a few time and have been happy. Today during dinner I complemented the waitress that the rice was excellent on my sushi pieces. We where having an fantastic dinner till my husband pointed out that a employee was picking his face behind the sushi bar for about 15 min.before mentioning it to me. I stared at him for 5 minutes. Every second my stomach stared to turn . I couldn't finish my meal . I found it disgusting that he just picked and picked his face and flicked stuff from his hand behind the raw food preparation station. Just had one of the worst sushi experiences ever. I am a avid sushi eater and go out for it several times a month. The service was horrible. We ordered at 630 and didn't get our food to our table until 7:30. When it arrived it wasn't correct. Things that should have been hot were cold. Things that were supposed to be cold tasted less than fresh. The sushi rice was pasty and the sushi pieces were overloaded with rice. 4 people were at my table one ordered chicken terikayi her meal was delivered immediately, while the rest of the food was delivered a hour later. My husband happened to come across this place a couple years ago for its AYCE sushi. At first we were in love with it as the variety of appetizers and sushi options were fantastic. Over time however, the quality began to significantly decline. The flavor and taste of the sushi is by far some of the worst, I'm not sure where they get their sushi from. Yesterday I ordered a couple of rolls and had trouble eating them as the sushi was very mushy and slimy in consistency; the taste was also not right. This place totally deserves a better review then what it is given. Me and my friends go out to sushi bars all over northern Illinois, and this is the best place we can find. Sometimes when it gets busy, yes it takes awhile for the rolls and everything to come out. As far as variety and taste selection go however, it is the best place to come for all you can eat sushi yet. I've been to Sakura's in Villa Park, Hokkai in Glen Elyn, Yue Sun in Wood Dale, and I always choose to come to this one if I felt like I wanted to get my money's worth. Ive been a sushi fan for years. Problem is there was only one in town in the last couple years and their quality was spotty. Some days it was good other days i couldnt even finish it. Sushi king is different. From the outside its not very impressive. Dont let this turn you away. Upon entering the restaurant you quickly forget its understated exterior and are wisked away to a very lavish and comfortable looking sushi palace. Many sushi restaurants are cold and hard inside. Sushi king is inviting and the atmosphere alone will make you want to sit down and dine in instead of taking carry out. The food is nothing short of amazing. When i saw the prices in the menu I was scared. The prices are unbelievably low. So I thought its either small portions or low quality. Let me put your worried mind to rest. You see Ive had all kinds of sushi. From the $4 trader joes garbage to the $35 a roll plated in gold (not really but at that price it should be) sushi and Sushi King TOPS THEM ALL. No lie. The fish is so fresh you would swear you were eating on the east or west coast. Bottom line is that if sushi king stays on its current course they have every right to call themselves King of sushi. The prices are low, the quality is high and the portions are very satisfying. I literally cant find one fault in their restaurant. Maybe the only thing I can say negatively is I wish they had opened sooner. Because it makes me regret the hundreds I have spent elsewhere on lesser food. You better eat all of your all you can eat sushi or they will cut your hands off! Or at least that's how it felt. I really liked this place. The atmosphere is unexpected for the run down strip mall that it is in. The sushi and maki was fresh and the all you can eat price is actually cheap, especially for someone who can put away some fish. However, when I ordered a third helping, they got a little weird. I get it, tuna and salmon aren't cheap. But don't have an all you can eat if you don't really want it to be all you can eat. All you can eat shouldn't be looked at per individual but as an average over time. For example, my 15 year old son got the all you can eat and probably ate 5 pieces max. Anyways, make sure you eat all that you order because they will charge you for whatever is left over. And if you order a lot be prepared to be watched to make sure you eat it all. I'm going to give Sushi King another try soon because the food was good and the atmosphere was cool... and for the record I plan on eating a boat load of all you can eat sushi!!! read more

This place is excellent! I went here with a friend for dinner and we did the $20.99 all you can eat dinner. They can many rolls to choose from and there wasn't one that we had that I didn't like. The servers were very attentive and all the food came out pretty quickly. The only thing I will say is make sure if you're doing the all you can eat option that you're ordering your money's worth. On that menu the prices aren't listed and some of the rolls are only $6 but you do get a free appetizer with it, so that's a plus. The mango mochi ice cream was delicious too! My wife brought some Sushi home from this place and it was decent so I decided to try eating in since I was in McHenry. As my brother and I walked in it was quite packed. We got the last table during lunch. All in all the atmosphere and food were great. The staff was quite grim except for just one girl who was always smiling. They have an All You Can Eat for $15.99, and since we are Sushi experts we did the math and realized the great value since you can get soup etc too. Knowing I can eat about 32 pieces or a bit more, it worked out perfect. They watched us like hawks which was funny. It seemed like they were betting we could not eat our first serving. We felt like something bad would happen if we couldn't eat all the food because of they way they looked at us, lol. like a public communist execution. When we finished they asked if we wanted more but we were so done. I read they charge for what you can't eat so it was expected to be monitored. Doing it with a smile would be nice, but whatever. If you can eat alot of sushi this is a great value. The Sushi is decent. We got a lunch special that included soup or salad, 3 Rolls and 2 sushi or sashimi pieces for 12.99. We got the American Dream, Spicy Salmon and the Christmas Roll. Service was prompt and attentive. We were the only people in there for lunch but I give them the benefit of the doubt for being new and in a bad location. The American Dream was our favorite roll. It had avocado, eel, and shrimp tempura. The other two rolls were great too! Everything tasted fresh and flavorful! The only downfall (which is a very minimal complaint) but the pop is a $1.50 and it's from a can. Maybe if they get more business they will upgrade to fountain drinks. If you like sushi, go here! Let me start by saying that this is the best Sushi I have had anywhere near this area. I had seen the sign for the grand opening and since my wife and I needed to stop by the bank, we figured it was a good time to try it out, as we are both big sushi fans. Located on the end of a strip mall, it is not much to look at from the outside and there is not a lot to attract you to come in, but please don't let that deter you. We were pleasantly surprised by the great atmosphere as we walked in. It was nice to see some care taken in the decoration of a sushi restaurant. As we walked in we were immediately greeted by the staff and given a nice booth. The entire time they were incredibly attentive (admittedly there was only one other couple in the restaurant at the time). We started with the edamame which was good, well salted and a good portion (not too much or too little). As for the sushi, my wife had a tuna roll and a salmon roll. I ordered the spicy tuna roll, the Supersonic roll, and a piece of uni. I had not tried uni (sea urchin) before, but our server said that it had just come in and was very fresh, so I figured I would try. I was VERY pleased with all my selections. My wife said her tuna was excellent and my spicy tuna was the best I have had in a long time. The Supersonic roll (one of the more deluxe rolls) was incredibly flavorful with just the right amount of spice. Thus Uni was also very good and I was glad I tried it. I would definitely get it again. The only reason I gave this restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the drinks. I had Diet Coke. They brought out a glass with ice and a can. Normally not a problem, but I ended up having 2 cans and when I got the bill they were $1.50 per can, no free refills. Besides that the prices were very good (about $4 for the basic rolls) and the food was great, so I would very much recommend this to anyone even relatively close. Dinner had slightly larger sushi buffet options with some more apps and roll selection. There is some other food options such as hibachi chicken that they cook inside the kitchen but most people come for the all you can eat sushi. Considering the location it's probably not as easily able to find but there isn't many sushi buffers for quite some distance so if your in the area this is the best option. read more
