After a 35 minute wait we finally got seated. We were hyped about seeing DMB in the Mohegan Casino. Now it did seem they where kinda rushing us and as you know sushi is an art to be slowly enjoyed all within its self. Sushi Koya is a small tight little place. The sake was good with the sushi, I had a mango margarita that totally kick my a$$. The sushi was tasty but seem smaller compared to my usual sushi restaurant. All in all a solid 4.2 star place, but I was expecting a more exotic plate of sushi. The salmon sashimi was a true delicious star followed by the Little Tokyo Roll. read more

Sushi Koya makes for a good, relatively late-night nosh fest at Mohegan Sun (10:30PM Sun-Thurs, midnight on Friday and Saturday). I dipped in after watching a concert at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Ambiance: Small, intimate restaurant. Seating for less than 30. Modern, tasteful decor. Sight lines into Summer Shack restaurant next door (would prefer that to be screened off). I opted to sit at the bar. Service: My server was very quick, attentive and polite. I gave my sushi order to the chef, which I guess is kind of a West-coast thing, but the server had no problem with it. Food: Sushi rolls were tasty, somewhat ill-formed, and unfortunately, didn't qualify for "best sushi ever". But they were good! I ordered the tuna roll and eel roll. It's great that they offer several dessert selections; I didn't partake but will definitely go for it next time. I ordered green tea and unfortunately, the water was not hot enough to brew the tea. My server offered to replace it, but seeing as they were nearly closed, I drank it weak. Hit up Sushi Koya while at Mohegan Sun, especially if you're traveling solo or with a friend/date. The food doesn't disappoint (unlike some other restaurants in the casino), and the service is much more one-on-one. read more

As a guest of the casino and due to work and covid restrictions, I am only allowed to get take out from the in casino restaurants. On a rather slow night, four of us waited over 20 minutes to just give our order. With only four tables with customers, the one waiter and his manager repeatedly told us to wait because they were so busy. I have worked as a waiter and bartender for 15 years, they were not busy just rude. I would love to tell you how the food was but due to covid restrictions, we are not allowed to wait in a restaurant for that long and never ate there. I love this place! Saturday was my first time here and the rave reviews friends were giving it did not disappoint! The service was friendly and prompt. We ordered a bunch of things and they brought the items out a plate or two at a time and didn't overload us with everything all at once. I hate when places bring out your apps and your meal all at once. The place itself is fairly small and easy to miss as it looks as if it's part of Summer Shack. I would like it a bit better if it was separated a bit better from there but honestly that wouldn't stop me from going there. Everything was so fresh and the combinations were so different from other places I've been. They do have your basic rolls but they have a lot of stuff that is different. The dinosaur egg was delicious and a must if you are looking for a great app! It's basically spicy tuna inside some pieces of avocado to make it look like an egg. Being located inside of a casino resort, you can expect to pay higher prices for the food here. We started with miso soup and an appetizer called Treasure Island, both were good. Went to have some dinner with my parents on a Saturday night at the casino with the intent of eating somewhere else.. when the wait was too long we decided on sushi at Sushi Koya. Needless to say we were VERY happy we ended up there because we had an amazing experience!! We got the edamame & seaweed salad to start. The seaweed salad was AWESOME!! And I don't even usually really like seaweed salad! Then we got the Pink Lady, Godzilla & Mermaid roll and WOW! We all agreed that we had never had sushi that FRESH & delicious! The service was awesome too!! Our server, David, took great care of us & he never missed a beat! This sushi is very average, it doesn't seem especially fresh. It's good if you have a sushi craving, but the price is very high. It's almost $30 for a sushi regular. It's good sushi (nothing extraordinary) but pricey. It's the only sushi option at Mohegan so they get to charge whatever they want. It's a small hole in the wall on the side of the Summer Shack. Their menu is limited. Plenty of special rolls (they have an entire page dedicated to it) but they're all $18+ each. I was craving ikura (salmon roe) and they didn't have it. They also don't have the standards like the tamago or inari. We ordered the dragon eggs which I felt was priced right at $10 for two but the Japanese potato roll was $10. All in all, we ordered salmon sashimi (3 pcs), dragon eggs (2 pcs), little Tokyo roll, Japanese potato roll and a spicy tuna roll with two sodas - total $71 for two people. read more

The service here was absolutely horrendous. We came in at 3 to grab a quick roll, and were happy to see the place was mostly empty. It took the waitress 25 minutes to greet us and bring menus, and then another 30 to come back and ask us what we wanted. 30 minutes after that, she came back and asked us if anyone had taken our order. She denied having taken it (she definitely lost the order) , and eventually brought it out 35 minutes after that. It took forever to even get the bill, and then even longer to get the cards back. I'm a regular at Mohegan and over the years I have said there needs to be a sushi bar, well today when I stopped by behold a sushi bar. I spoke with the girl at the front and asked her how long they have been open and she responded "about six weeks" I told her I would be back in a couple of hours and I did return...regrettably. I walked in around 5:30pm and sat at the sushi bar, it was just myself and one other person at the bar. I ordered their martini bowl, two orders of sp...icy tuna and two rainbow rolls. The presentation was very nice and that is the only thing positive I can say ends. The plate was room temperature, first problem. It should always be refrigerated, the sushi was not cool at all as it should always be, but rather it was just about what I would call thawed temp if left out on a counter for an hour. I knew something was not right but it did not hit me until I had finished an was staring at the glass sushi refrigeration case in front of me. The entire case had water droplets accumulated all along the bottom, it was not frosted as EVERY other sushi cooler I have seen when sitting at a sushi bar. I used my smart phone app and the temp of the glass was 61 degrees. The sushi case MUST be kept between 32-41 for safe safety so bacteria does not have the chance to grow and make people sick. I took pictures to document the case conditions (my app does not permit storage of the temp) but the pictures of the case tell the whole story. I told the girl at the front that the case is NOT AT THE PROPER TEMP an that the sushi being served was not cool but rather about room temp and my response was a shrug of her shoulders. I wasted my breath informing her but am hear to warn anyone who was there today and going forward NOT to eat at this sushi bar as people will get very ill as a result of bad food safety practices. I spent just under 90 dollars with tip and now have to sit and wait in order to find out if I'm going to get food poising from being served warm sushi not kept at the proper temperature. read more
