Stopped by for dinner one night and we thought everything tasted great. We ordered some gyoza to start off with and they tasted good... like any other gyoza tbh. All their rolls sounded amazing so it was very hard to decide but we opted for the beach roll, homeless (our tables absolute fav), Vegas roll (probably wouldn't order again), and lastly the tempura California roll (just your avg fried California roll). Service was good, our server was super friendly. We appreciated that we did not feel rushed considering it was close to closing time. Ate here a long time ago last year with some old friends, remember it being quite well! The food was extremely tasty and is very good sushi, sadly I do not remember the orders we had gotten. Very fresh tasting fish. The area was nice and the building was very welcoming, and the staff did a generally nice job staying attentive and allowing us to enjoy. I dont recommend getting the teriyaki rice bowl here delivered. Got one for valentines as a gift and the bowl was just rice and chicken, there was no seasoning or sauce added at all. Great place to get sushi if you are in north county. The prices are great! They have a 50% off menu to choose from and the rolls are always wonderfully prepared. My favorites are crunchy roll, soft shell crab, spicy scallop, and the classic California roll. As for appetizers, I recommend seaweed salad or the egg rolls. They have a great tofu soup as well! My family and I have been coming here for years. The staff is so friendly and the sushi comes fairly quickly. They have a wide variety of deep fried rolls-- I recommend the Star Wars roll. It can get pretty busy here on the weekend so I would call to make a reservation in advance if you know you will be in a time crunch! Parking is great and they also have cozy outdoor seating. My husband, our two kids under 3, and I have been here a few times and I feel satisfied enough to give them my full approval. We're always seated quickly (though we try to get here on the earlier side - anywhere between 5-5:30). The food is always delicious and efficiently out to us, and they don't even bat an eye at the absolute vortex that is my children. Granted, I always clean up, wipe down, and tidy our area before we leave, but I appreciate that they let us "just be" during the devouring process. This review may make us sound like heathens because we probably look like heathens, but hey, kids gonna kids when they like the food. I especially love the little chopstick snap-on guide things they give for those who are learning to use chopsticks. Adorable and definitely useful for the aforementioned heathens. read more

I was out on the west coast for a business trip and asked Yelp to find me a good sushi place. Sushi Kuchi came up and was an easy ride. Off I went. I was dying for some sashimi and decided to order the small sashimi platter. I also ordered an uni shooter since it looked amazing and unique. I remember thinking that might not be enough for just me, however, I figured I'd wait to order more. The shooter was quickly delivered. I loved how much uni it had in it. Of course, to balance that, it came in a wine type glass vs a shot glass, making "shooting" it a bit difficult. A fair trade imo! As I waited, I watched a lot of good look chef's rolls come out. I began to second guess myself until my "small" sashimi order arrived. I was expecting 2 of 3 pieces of the usual (tuna, salmon, white fish, etc). What arrived was 3 meaty pieces of each of the usual, along with surf clam and scallop. The plate also came with legit wasabi. Cliff notes - loved the dish, fresh and meaty sashimi. Service was solid. I was a single diner and came in following the normal dinner rush but was provided plenty of attention. I sat at a table but would probably go for the chef bar next time. Net - I left full and happy! If I travel back to the area, I will be back. I recommend you check them out. read more

It was okay, not the best tasting sushi I ever had, luckily they were having sushi specials for 50% off when we went so didn't spend too much. We ordered spicy garlic edamame, a cali handroll, salmon skin handroll, salmon nigiri, and miso soup. The hand rolls were whatever, the crab was drenched in sauce so didn't finish it. The edamame was weird, not spicy at all and kind of sweet which threw me off. Salmon nigiri was okay didn't taste v fresh.The miso was good. We were just in town to visit and we're craving sushii and found Sushi Kuchi nearby. We were seated right away and beat the dinner rush! The restaurant is pretty big and they also had outdoor patio seating. We got a sheet of paper that has a copy of their entire menu on it so you can jot down what you want and one of the servers checked and picks it up. The restaurant had some Korean food options which was cool because I ended up ordering a Seafood Soft Tofu Soup that hit the spot. We ordered some Makis, Nigiris, Handrolls and a Lips Roll. The fish was sooooo good and fresh everything was so good. We ordered the Spicy Salmon Handrolls and it wasn't really spicy at all. Next time would probably ask for extra spicy. One less star for offering 50% off but the rolls were upcharged which in turn you're just paying roughly regular price. I don't understand this strategy. They're sushi is really good and I feel like they could just charge regular prices without doing it this way. But the restaurant seems to get super busy so whatever works for them. I'm sure it's safe, just not high quality Japanese style sushi, and more like "fast" sushi, but not if you're comparing it to the best sushi places like Sushi Ota, Sasabune, Sugar Fish, and the like. Our first time visiting this unassuming strip-mall locale. I heard about this sushi restaurant and had to try it. We were quickly greeted upon entry and offered a table or booth. We took a table. The dining area offered a relaxed atmosphere with easy listening rock ballads and murals with distinctive Japanese motif. It all translated to a pleasant setting where conversations could be had without worrying about intrusive ambient noise. We ordered fried calamari as a starter and it was tender with a crunchy texture at first bite. My son had the teriyaki chicken, which he loved, as well as the sticky rice on the side. We also enjoyed a warm bowl of miso soup before the sushi rolls arrived. We shared Alaskan, Eel/Avocado, Dragon and Tuna Rolls. We definitely indulged and loved every minute of it! My son is a Sr in HS and seeing him put away all that food convinced me that the boy has a hollow leg! The pleasant dining experience was brought full circle by the great service offered by Emi, who greeted us upon arrival, took our order and ensured our drinks remained fresh and flowing. I found this place on Yelp since my favorite (won't mention name) is closed Monday and Tuesday. The fish is super fresh, food and perfectly prepared. They even used fresh wasabi on my nigiri and have the best lunch special prices. The serving of uni as my dessert and favorite was so good and super generous portions for a single/two piece order. This place was a great find while camping nearby! Their sushi is super cheap and worth it for the price. They definitely overload the imitation crab, but I'll take it for $10 rolls. Their service was quick and friendly, and the perfect dinner if you're staying at South Carlsbad SB anyway.
