The atmosphere here was warm, inviting and clean on our visit. And despite that they had bluegrass music blaring, it still felt like a Japanese restaurant. It was panko-crusted and about as rubbery as the set of Michelins that I had installed on my car a few weeks ago. That's not a deal-breaker, as there have been only two places in my life that have served melty calamari -- both of them Italian joints, As an aside, there are two secrets to cooking calamari. First, they need to soak in milk, as the lactic acid breaks down muscle. Secondly, they need to be dredged in an egg mixture so they brown quickly without overcooking the meat. But I digress. I took a couple sips of the miso soup, which was nicely flavored. I didn't touch the salad, but the person who did said it was good. The udon noodles were nicely presented and had excellent flavor. The coconut shrimp was the total opposite of the calamari in that it was cooked to perfection. I'm not sure what the dipping sauce was, but it was also phenomenal, and I'll be looking for a copycat recipe. As for the sushi, it was good. Not earth-shattering, but beautifully presented with a nice contrast of flavors and temperatures. I'm not sure about the cherry on top, but what the hell.
