It's not crowded on the weekends during the day, it's not pretentious, you're getting quality fish with a tranquil atmosphere. We shared the edamame and eggplant to start, which were simple and flavorful. The cut rolls were delightful--our favorite was the snow crab, so fresh! The tuna was delightfully umami with the koji, but the scallop was also so velvety and had nice flavoring with the yuzu kosho, a little kick. The botan ebi was unlike anything I've tried, interesting texture with the shiso and raw shrimp, definitely an experience for an adventurous eater! The cocktail I got had sake, lemon, and club soda and was delightful. Sitting at the bar watching them make the food while chatting was such a nice experience. Delicious handroll bar in the heart of Brooklyn. Stopped in here on a whim on Monday night and the service and handrolls were excellent! I ordered miso soup because I saw the waitress preparing miso soups for a to-go orders and the color was PERFECT. The soup was flavorful and a must-order this winter. I would venture to say that they are in my estimation the best of the lot, and this small yet pleasant counter centered branch on a sleepy Gowanus block has been stuck solidly in my lunch rotation for a solid 5 years plus now. I usually opt for the cut roll options over the hand rolls, save for an occasional uni or ikura hand roll when I am wiling to treat myself. The quality of both fish and rice is of remarkably consistently excellent quality, evincing exceptional skill and care on behalf of the staff. I usually opt for enjoying the good stuff in the narrow room and the small bar, as opposed to grabbing and taking it out in the smartly designed custom little cardboard branded takeout box, a hallmark of the genre. With sushi this good I feel it's best to eat as soon as possible but on the rare occasion I have taken it to go it's held up pretty well. Considering the high quality of the sushi the lunch specials rate a a squarely good value. The seafood is fresh, and love the minimalist seating counter - this is not meant as a place to linger but a place to get a quick delicious bite and leave. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. What sets this place apart from the Dekalb location (and other neighborhood sushi shops for that matter), is the rice. Here it is absolutely perfect: in respect to temperature, texture, and taste. But don't take my word for it, you should go try for yourself! Have wanted to try this place for a bit. Had been a tad disappointed with some of our sushi orders from other places in the neighborhood. The amount you get in the rolls is less than you might be used to but the pieces, quality of the fish and creativity more than make up for it. They're also not out there charging the same price as a 6 piece roll for only 5 pieces, it's slightly cheaper. We got a wide selection but my choices were the spicy scallop, the shrimp with shiso and plum paste and the toro. The shrimp with shiso and plum was excellent. I've had shiso with sushi and liked it but the plum added an extra kick that I'd not experienced before. The toro was top tier as well. As someone who had only knew of Daigo through the food stall at Dekalb market, I was surprised when one day on the B103 I saw a storefront for it. And since I was in the area on Saturday, I decided to make that my early dinner. But like many others, I noticed that there were two Daigos in relatively close proximity. The first one was a takeout oriented spot for rolls which is the one I saw. The other one (this one) was close to the Union street R train station and had a sit down vibe. It was definitely quiet when I arrived at around 4. There was outdoor seats but I opted for the sushi bar. They allowed me to order from my seat and had the menu set up in paper. Being familiar with the menu, I had an idea of what I wanted. However, they had special combos posted on the wall, one where you can get 5 handrolls for 29 bucks (spicy tuna, salmon avocado, eel and yellowtail). So I opted for that. Because it was relatively slow, the chef was able to make my next roll as soon I as finish the first one. The fish was so fresh and melted in my mouth. I do really love that yellowtail. I have to say it is worth it to try this place out if you can't stand the ambiance of the market but love the fish as it is more contained, it has proper seats and you don't have deal with people passing you by to go to other stalls. On the flip side, it not as easy to get to like the market (train and public transportation). Like the other location, it has a great deal on the weekdays for rolls between 11 and 3 pm so I would definitely come back for that read more

We've ordered sushi a few times now from Daigo, and their rolls have been some of the best sushi I've had in a long time. This may be takeout sushi, but they pay so much attention to the presentation that it feels like a much more elevated experience. The rolls arrive neatly packaged in boxes with separate compartments for soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger, and not only does that look nice, but it also ensures that the rolls don't come out tasting like ginger just from their placement in the box. We've only gotten cut rolls so far, but they also have hand rolls and rice cups that I'm sure are equally delicious. The quality of all the ingredients, especially the fish and the rice, has been far higher than one might expect from takeout sushi, and everything has been consistently fresh and flavorful. I also really like that their roll selection has some that you don't always find at other places, like saba gari (mackerel), Alaskan snow crab (with real crab), and ika mentaiko (squid with chili-seasoned cod roe and shiso). While every single roll we've gotten has been great, my favorites are the seared black cod, seared salmon, Hokkaido scallop with yuzu kosho, and ika mentaiko. Those are absolutely incredible. I don't remember how I came across this sushi spot... all I know is once I saw that they serve uni rice cups, I HAD to try it! I ordered delivery via Uber Eats a few nights ago and bought 2 Uni Rice Cups ($15/each), an Alaskan Snow Crab Cut Roll ($7.50) and a Toro Cut Roll ($9). As I'm sure you can tell from the photos, Daigo follows the Sugarfish trend of aesthetically pleasing packaging - who doesn't love that? The cut rolls were delicious but not something I'd go out of my way for again. I do appreciate, however, that the crab is real crabmeat - not a lot of places do that. And for the moment I'd been long waiting for: taking my first bite out of that uni don. It was good, but didn't blow me away. Maybe I overhyped it for myself. I'm not sure if it was because I've had fresher tasting, melt-in-your-mouth uni before or if it was because uni doesn't travel well and lost its umph during its journey to me. The rice on the other hand was great. The cup seemed a little small at first glance, but it's a pretty solid portion for $15 and can definitely fill you up (with some apps/sides). We finally made it to Daigo this past weekend. It was a cold day (and I was trying to get over a cold), so I started with miso soup, which hit the spot...so soothing. As for sushi, I got a salmon avocado roll and a spicy salmon roll (yep, salmon is my jam). Both were good, but there's no beating the spicy sauce on the latter. The menu offers the rolls in one of two formats, either a hand roll or a cut roll. I prefer the latter, but many people seemed to be ordering the former. The hub got a cut Spicy Salmon Cut Roll, a cut Spicy Tuna Cut Roll and a Yellowtail Scallion hand roll. The fish all tasted very fresh. To me, the rice was a bit too gummy, but the hub thought it was fine. As for the menu, it includes both vegetarian and vegan rolls in addition to the array of seafood options in roll and bowl formats. The space is long and somewhat narrow -- cozy, in a good way -- with bar seating and one long high top. The bar was pretty full, so we opted to sit at the end of the high top by the door. The service was prompt and polite, with plenty of water offered. We will definitely go back when we're next craving sushi. read more

The fish was high-quality, the rice was fresh, and the sauce pairings on the later rolls (shrimp, unagi) added variety without being overbearing. Disappointing as of late... We've been ordering sushi exclusively from Daigo since 2020, and we've consistently ordered the same items: salmon avocado rolls, spicy tuna rolls and miso soup. Unfortunately, today's order completely missed the mark. We were first surprised by the change in packaging - which once was all paper and branded is now cardboard and plastic, even the sauce sizes have been reduced. The miso soup was totally different - last time it was full of tofu and flavor, today it taste like it was from a paste I could find at the grocery store.
