Walked in and waited for a few minutes to be seated, the owner or manager looked at me 3 times and continued to talk to one of the customer's there about nothing ( I over heardthen becausethe table was rightnet to me), not even " we'll be right with you". He's attentive and constantly updating you on your wait time! I've been here a handful of times and I don't wait long to be seated (and I've been here with parties of 2, 4 and 8 people!! So that says a lot) secondly, the service is superb! Ive had Song and Sarina take care of us every time I've been there. Sarina is fast, so kind and helpful when looking to try new rolls! Hands down the most excellent sushi on 2nd street, possibly even the best in Long Beach. The fish itself is great quality, melt in your mouth sashimi. Everything is very fresh and well put together. The food is amazing and the fish is extremely fresh. I definitely cannot compare this place to any other sushi places I've been to because of the high quality fish they use. The presentation is absolutely fantastic as well! My boyfriend and I have been here a couple times and the servers are very attentive and kind. From my understanding, there are only two girls that work here with the help of the owner. I can tell they are extremely understaffed and look exhausted but they still keep it professional. This place isn't great if you have kids. They only have 1 high chair for the entire restaurant and nothing kid appropriate on the menu. The bathroom isn't actually in the restaurant. They don't have an impressive drink menu and some of the sushi was a bit overpriced BUT I ordered a Hot Night roll with crab and shrimp tempura and it was a 5 star roll so it kind of evened things out ;) read more

This restaurant is an awesome addition to the ever changing 2nd St scene. We ordered a lot of food, including a rainbow roll and a spider roll. Absolutely delicious. The veggie tempura was the best I've had. The hamachi collar tastes great and is a good buy. Nice vibe with friendly, professional and efficient servers. The only complaint we had was the black cod, while very tasty, had some bones. Seems like it would be easy enough to fillet the fish before cooking and serving it as most Japanese restaurants do. This place seemed less Americanized than some other options in the area. We tried a few of the sushi options and some warm dishes. The tempura was pretty good, the soft shelled crab was good, and the miso soup was...interesting. The 3-star review is because sushi seemed less than fresh. The uni was unimpressive and it seemed like they put a lemon slice on it to cover up the lack of freshness. Speaking of lemon slices, ikura was also topped with a lemon slice. It also was not the freshest fish. The 2 aforementioned sushi's are not great when they are not fresh. I'm not sure if these are just not often ordered but you shouldn't serve raw fish if it isn't fresh. The sushi did have a large piece fish on the rice if that is important to you. Overall decent but I prefer all my raw fish to be fresh. Personal preference. read more

What was really disappointing was that I added a note to Open Table: we were celebrating a birthday and I asked for a dessert (and maybe a song!) at the end of the meal. Omakase! Best omakase(chef's choice) in Long Beach! @sushi only carries the highest quality fish to serve. I never would have thought that I would have a sushi experience like this. We had a group of 7 people order omakase (chefs choice). Each dish came out at perfect timing and the chef came out to explain each one.
