My family and I don't usually expect much at all-you-can-eat (AYCE) sushi restaurants but we were pleasantly surprised! Our group of 10 went on a busy Saturday night. They have a lot of seating so we were able to get seated pretty quickly. Our server managed all the tables really well and we didn't have any problems that weren't fixed. The AYCE price includes sashimi, which can have extra charges elsewhere, and a beverage (soft drink refillable or one alcoholic). They have a huge menu including options for raw and cooked rolls. We enjoyed everything we ate. Some of the most notable items were the sashimi, bubba gump roll, little tokyo roll, steak teriyaki (served with only the protein), ice creams (creamy and great flavors), and the fried oreos. read more

Thus place has been around for a long time and have seen it go from self severe all you can eat buffet to something completely different. Sushi Masa can be hit or miss, I wish it was more consistent. We love coming here because it comes with sashimi in the AYCE option and that isn't something that I've found is common around the area. The service is typically fast, but I've noticed that the staff changes every so often and when it's busy - it tends to be a lot slower. If you like sashimi like we do, this place is worth every penny. Upon entering, the place is beautiful. We went on a Friday night for dinner, so we paid $30.95 per person which includes a drink. We ordered clear soup. It wasn't the best I've had. Tasted like broth with not much flavor. Next, we had 3 appetizers: tuna tatami, pepper tuna and mango salmon. Loved it! For the main course we tried so many things. The Snow White roll was my favorite. My son got his sushi on a boat. Pretty cool. Other things we tried: Zack's special roll (not my favorite), LSU roll, rainbow roll, fried rice( too greasy), fish Katsu (big portion), spider roll (cone style), and tempura cheesecake (forgot pic). I might have missed reporting on a few things. We ordered one piece of every sashimi except bean curd and it was delicious. It came on a bowl of ice as it should. Back here again service is still good. It is quiet and pleasant in here. I ordered the Thai tea this time with the meal. It is excellent. Thai tea is a sweet drink. Food was as good as always. Overall the food isn't bad! It's not amazing, but not bad either. I actually love their sashimi and have never had an issue; their sushi in general is OK, but my husband and I mostly stick to the sashimi options, which we love. It tastes fresh, good texture, and we've never had an issue with that. Their service is mediocre at best but for $20 AYCE lunch and $30 AYCE dinner, I can't complain too much. It's typically packed in the restaurant and they seem to always be short staffed. We recently tried the tempura veggies and probably wouldn't order again, due to them being cold and oily. I typically would avoid AYCE sushi in fear of not being able to eat that much and quality concerns, however, Sushi Masa was awesome! My fiancé, our friend, and I came here for lunch on a Sunday. We learned that AYCE $21 lunch is only on weekdays and that dinner applies to weekend which is about $31. This didn't deter us since it came with a drink and AYCE! It's located in a strip mall so there is easy free parking out front. They had men and womens restrooms here with several stalls. There was also a lot of seating available since it's a huge restaurant. Our waitress was sweet and helpful. Our friend is gluten-free which was a bit difficult to cater to here, but we made it work. We sorta went family style with the sushi we got. Everything was fresh and delicious. There isn't a buffet you pick from, you order directly from your server and it gets made fresh. I was so happy with our experience here. I really enjoyed my nigiri and sushi rolls. The others did as well. We closed our our meals with dessert. The fried oreos were a bit off, but the green tea ice cream was yummy. We all ate past full haha. It's a wonderful place if you're really hungry. I would come back. read more

This is some awesome AYCE sushi! And it is so cute inside. Our daughter spent a good bit of time feeding the fish with their $.25 fish food (lovely touch). We had sashimi, sushi rolls, lo mein, gyoza, house salads, miso soup, shrimp fried rice, and we ended our meal with red bean, green tea, and vanilla ice cream with cheesecake tempura. Soft drinks or your first alcoholic drink are included, but it's $1 extra if you get imported. The food comes out fresh and fast. The only downside was that the dirty dishes stayed at our table for the duration of the dinner, but this wasn't bothersome enough to rate this place down. Visiting Richmond for work and exploring new restaurants. I was craving sushi, and found this place I'm google. I ordered the crazy yellowtail and fried rice. The fried rice was okay. The crazy yellow was good but as I was eating my last roll, I was chewing and chewing and something was still in my mouth. I pulled it out and it was paper. I called the restaurant and she told me to bring it back. I did but when I arrived she asked what I wanted them to do. I asked for a refund, she said I would have to go through DoorDash. I said could they remake it. She said no. That she will talk to the chef and tell them to be more careful. I am not contacting DoorDash to report the issue. read more

Orders are brought on one single plate and we have to figure out who gets what and there are no secondary plates for division. We finally just left fedup rather than fully fed. As a Richmond native, visiting this strip mall will always be nostalgic as I often ate here when it was formerly a buffet referred to as the Sino American Cafe, later changing its name to Super King Buffet, then one last name change as Hibachi Sushi & Supreme Buffet until its closure. This location has now transitioned to an AYCE restaurant though at the time of Sushi Masa's soft opening, I had no interest in visiting due to the 1 star reviews. Plus, there was already a new AYCE sushi place in Willow Lawn that was decent, so why bother? Well, fast forward to this current point in time, I found myself in the mood to try a new restaurant and wanting to indulge in my favorite food (sushi). I've decided to give Sushi Masa a chance after discovering the reviews have improved since their soft opening. Well, let me preface that if you choose to dine here, you will not be disappointed! This is one of my new favorite restaurants simply because the interior is so inviting/welcoming and most importantly, the sushi is great quality along with the plate-ware that its served on. This AYCE sushi restaurant is the best one in Richmond. I made a reservation just in case, but it was clear that I didn't need one when I arrived because of the ample seating. The host sat us quickly under one of the fun flower seating areas and we were super happy with our seats. In addition to the flower seating, they have various private rooms and a lot of seating for larger parties. They even have a karaoke room! We started by ordering the salmon tartar, miso soup, and green tea with our kind waiter. All were delivered quickly, and since I was hungry we got right to eating. Shortly after we ordered the Masa Roll, rainbow roll, spicy tuna roll, and some shrimp tempura. After 2 more rounds of food, we were stuffed. But still had some space for the fried oreos and chocolate ice cream. The bathrooms were very clean and big enough to not feel cramped. I find the fish to be really fresh and they have a very wide variety of rolls that cater to all different kinds of tastes and preferences. I've loved the masa roll and baby tiger roll. My boyfriend and I usually love this place. We come almost weekly, even making the hour and a half drive from our college because we've consistently had good experiences here. However, our most recent visit this past Sunday afternoon was really disappointing. In the two days since eating here, we've both experienced severe food poisoning symptoms. We haven't eaten anywhere else since Sushi Masa , which makes us strongly suspect it may have been related to the fish. In addition, the service was slower than usual, and a few of our rolls were forgotten, which added to the frustration. Recently stopped by again on the way back from another trip to Busch Gardens. Some pros and cons, but it still deserves a 5 stars in my eyes because of the value and options for only $32 before tip and tax per person. Menus were changed, and I liked the new design much better than the previous green ones. PROS: - The seafood soup was the best I've had at an AYCE place by far. The one here had a mussel, large piece of shrimp, scallop, crab stick... All cooked very well and the soup had a great flavor! It was what I was most pleasantly surprised by. - Scallop sashimi was great, rare to find that! - Green tea ice cream and fried Oreos were super good, the Oreos just as nice as I remembered. The ice cream was definitely one of the better I've had. - Service is decently fast. I don't remember our waitress' name, but she appeared Eastern European and had an accent. She was really friendly and made the visit better. CONS: - Unfortunately, the salmon sashimi did not taste nor look as good as the last visit. But it was still good and something my boyfriend and I ate, just not as good as last time! - Eel was a bit tough and harder than desired. But hey, usually AYCE places don't even have eel. - I ordered a Fanta as my complimentary drink, and it was somehow really weak? When I drank it, I thought I was given a sprite by accident! - One of the special rolls with a chili sauce was really bad. The chili sauce just tasted like ketchup, I think it was the Crazy Yellowtail Roll? But most of the rolls, like the Naruto roll and Nemo roll, were super good! OVERALL: The pros still greatly outweigh the cons, there's plenty to like here! Just a few items I thought could use improvement, and at the end of the day it's really solid for an AYCE. I'm a fan of Sushi Masa! The interior is nicely decorated and very clean. It's spacious in here, yet feels like not a ton of tables, but also never feels like your sitting on top of or cluttered with others. I've been here two or three times now and sometimes it's a short wait, but I'm thinking really because they try to space out the tables. An all inclusive price here gets you AYCE sushi and comes with a drink, which is crazy that it can be a soft drink or one alcoholic beverage (mostly basic wines and beers). The food here is great, good flavors and super fresh sushi. It has become a fave go-to when I want a variety of sushi. The miso soup is one of my fave apps here, calamari is decent (kinda thick rings though). Don't be afraid to ask questions about descriptions or what's in certain dishes. That's the only downfall of the menu and given that you have to eat everything or get up charged I'm definitely hesitant to order anything unfamiliar for fear I won't like it. The only sushi I've ordered that I didn't absolutely love was the yellowtail, which has raw fish and then jalapenos on top. It just doesn't come together well for texture or flavor profile for me. First time here last night, $30 all you can eat set up- i love that its not just AYCE sushi, but also appetizers, teriyaki options, soup/salad options, and even your first drink (soft drink/beer/wine/sake) is included in that price. I enjoyed all my food- the gyoza, clear soup, spicy shrimp, and the LSU roll.. All delicious, and all are things i would order again. My only complaint is that the sushi orders include 8 rolls which can be a lot so for an AYCE, it would be hard to order more than one kind of roll if you aren't sharing. This is one of my new FAVE places in Richmond. They have AYCE sushi (and an ala carte menu with so many options). I think the AYCE is definitely worth it, with free drinks, appetizers, sashimi, dessert, and a large variety of sushi to order. I think they are still figuring out their flow during busy times- I've been here twice and the service was noticeably better when it was empty vs peak dinner time. But I love the decor- it's very fun and immersive. I cannot recommend this place enough! read more
