Recently stopped by again on the way back from another trip to Busch Gardens. Some pros and cons, but it still deserves a 5 stars in my eyes because of the value and options for only $32 before tip and tax per person. Menus were changed, and I liked the new design much better than the previous green ones. PROS: - The seafood soup was the best I've had at an AYCE place by far. The one here had a mussel, large piece of shrimp, scallop, crab stick... All cooked very well and the soup had a great flavor! It was what I was most pleasantly surprised by. - Scallop sashimi was great, rare to find that! - Green tea ice cream and fried Oreos were super good, the Oreos just as nice as I remembered. The ice cream was definitely one of the better I've had. - Service is decently fast. I don't remember our waitress' name, but she appeared Eastern European and had an accent. She was really friendly and made the visit better. CONS: - Unfortunately, the salmon sashimi did not taste nor look as good as the last visit. But it was still good and something my boyfriend and I ate, just not as good as last time! - Eel was a bit tough and harder than desired. But hey, usually AYCE places don't even have eel. - I ordered a Fanta as my complimentary drink, and it was somehow really weak? When I drank it, I thought I was given a sprite by accident! - One of the special rolls with a chili sauce was really bad. The chili sauce just tasted like ketchup, I think it was the Crazy Yellowtail Roll? But most of the rolls, like the Naruto roll and Nemo roll, were super good! OVERALL: The pros still greatly outweigh the cons, there's plenty to like here! Just a few items I thought could use improvement, and at the end of the day it's really solid for an AYCE. I'm a fan of Sushi Masa! The interior is nicely decorated and very clean. It's spacious in here, yet feels like not a ton of tables, but also never feels like your sitting on top of or cluttered with others. I've been here two or three times now and sometimes it's a short wait, but I'm thinking really because they try to space out the tables. An all inclusive price here gets you AYCE sushi and comes with a drink, which is crazy that it can be a soft drink or one alcoholic beverage (mostly basic wines and beers). The food here is great, good flavors and super fresh sushi. It has become a fave go-to when I want a variety of sushi. The miso soup is one of my fave apps here, calamari is decent (kinda thick rings though). Don't be afraid to ask questions about descriptions or what's in certain dishes. That's the only downfall of the menu and given that you have to eat everything or get up charged I'm definitely hesitant to order anything unfamiliar for fear I won't like it. The only sushi I've ordered that I didn't absolutely love was the yellowtail, which has raw fish and then jalapenos on top. It just doesn't come together well for texture or flavor profile for me. An upscale all you can eat buffet that ranges from appetizers, noodles, sushi's. The price is $30 and includes a soft drink and 1 alcoholic beverages for those who drink (anything after is charged). First time here last night, $30 all you can eat set up- i love that its not just AYCE sushi, but also appetizers, teriyaki options, soup/salad options, and even your first drink (soft drink/beer/wine/sake) is included in that price. I enjoyed all my food- the gyoza, clear soup, spicy shrimp, and the LSU roll.. All delicious, and all are things i would order again. My only complaint is that the sushi orders include 8 rolls which can be a lot so for an AYCE, it would be hard to order more than one kind of roll if you aren't sharing. Otherwise, great service from Brett, lovely restaurant- i enjoyed the decor. I will definitely return and bring people. Great concept! read more

Overall the place was very nicely decorated and the food was good but I was a bit disappointed with the long wait times for the service and food. It shouldn't take that long to just get a plate of sushi or a bowl or seaweed salad. Also a bit disappointed with the mandatory automatic tips, we should have an option for custom tips since the service wasn't all that great. This is one of my new FAVE places in Richmond. They have AYCE sushi (and an ala carte menu with so many options). I think the AYCE is definitely worth it, with free drinks, appetizers, sashimi, dessert, and a large variety of sushi to order. I think they are still figuring out their flow during busy times- I've been here twice and the service was noticeably better when it was empty vs peak dinner time. But I love the decor- it's very fun and immersive. I cannot recommend this place enough! read more

I had been waiting for a proper occasion to treat myself to AYCE sushi! I treated my friend for his birthday that just passed, so the two of us, 6'1" and 6'4" was seated. The both was a little tight for us, but since you order from a menu and they bring it to you, we didn't have to move till the end. I was a bit disappointed, I have been craving a a spicy tuna handroll, when it finally arrived quite some time later, it was very sloppily rolled, which meant probably some teenager tried to make it, certainly no sushi matter would present this. Also you can tell the tuna was cut up using a machine or grinder, it would been better to cut with a knife. (Maybe that's how they use up the ugly parts of the tuna that would go to waste?) And it had no spice. The best think I ate was the yellow tail (hamachi) and tuna sashimi and the teriyaki steak. I tasted at least one of everything my friend had. It wasn't horrible but hard pass next time. read more

Great spot if you're into sushi. They have a pretty extensive menu with an all-you-can-eat option at a solid price, plus à la carte dishes if you're looking for something a bit more special. The sushi is well made and you can tell there's care put into each piece. The atmosphere also stands out it really gives you that feeling of dining in Japan. We've been here 3 times and the service is ALWAYS lacking. We like the menu as it has more than other sushi restaurants. But we always end up waiting close to 45 minutes for all our food to come out. And we've gone during off peak times. This last time we had to ask about the clear soup twice before it was brought out, 30 minutes after we ordered it. It shouldn't be that hard. Quality/taste: I came for their AYCE lunch. Pretty good quality sushi! I was a little disappointed about the selection of the chefs special rolls - there wasn't that many options that had raw fish in them; most had shrimp tempura. Not too much of a variety under the chefs special rolls :/ The nigiri pcs were good and that's where the fish variety was. For dessert, I got the green tea ice cream which was really good! It was a nice portion given too. I'd def get it again. Service: Very attentive and friendly server! He always came and made sure we were OK and continuously made we put in our orders in a timely manner and everything came out in good timing. It took no longer than 5 mins to get the next item. Drinks were always refilled. Environment: The new owners did a good job of refreshing the look inside from when it was Super King. I really like the upgrades they did inside. Everything seems a lot more modern and clean compared to what it was. Very spacious and good for big parties. Price: Good prices! $20 for lunch and $30 for dinner. My boyfriend and I usually love this place. We come almost weekly, even making the hour and a half drive from our college because we've consistently had good experiences here. However, our most recent visit this past Sunday afternoon was really disappointing. In the two days since eating here, we've both experienced severe food poisoning symptoms. We haven't eaten anywhere else since Sushi Masa , which makes us strongly suspect it may have been related to the fish. In addition, the service was slower than usual, and a few of our rolls were forgotten, which added to the frustration. I'm not writing this to discourage people from coming, because we've genuinely enjoyed this restaurant in the past. UPDATE (from 7/30/2025 visit). First of all KUDOS to the owner and management of Sushi Masa for reaching out to me after they were made aware of my previous visit (6/26/2025). It shows that they are pro-active and care about their customer's experiences. They contacted me directly and asked if I could give them a chance to make things right. As before, it took me just over 2-hours to ride (2:13 because of road work). When I arrived, they had a different Hostess than before and she was (a) at her station and (b) very pleasant - a great start. Even though they were very busy, I was seated right away and within a few minutes I had a cold glass of water and my orders were taken. Since I arrived during dinner (after 3 PM - actually during Happy Hour) my first order included sashimi (Salmon, Tuna & White Tuna), a couple of special rolls and fried shumai appetizer. The sashimi arrived pretty quick, but there was a delay with the rolls and appetizer. IMHO, this is not a big deal because it is to be expected as busy as they were. The fact that the sashimi arrived pretty quickly makes this alright. NOTE: when they are busy, the simpler orders (ie: standard rolls, sashimi, etc.) the faster they arrive. They would have received 5 stars if they did not (a) mistakenly fill out part of my first order a second time (which was fine since I thought about re-ordering it anyway) and (b) they did not deliver the Philadelphia roll I ordered so late I was already ordering dessert (Green Tea & Red Bean ice cream). Double Kudos to the management team (Wait Manager & Kitchen Manager) who took time to talk to me in person and apologize about my previous experience and assured me that they are doing what they can to make sure it never happens again. I came into Sushi Masa on a Sunday afternoon. This place is an "all you can eat" sushi restaurant- we didn't understand before going that that's generally what they ask that you do. We ended up ordering off the a la carte menu, and not spending as much as the all-you-can-eat would've been (I think it was $40-ish for a weekend pass). The interior of this restaurant is beautiful, and was really clean. The front staff was nice. Our server seemed a little frustrated with us, I guess for not doing the all-you-can-eat (if I came back, I would definitely order in that way!). I was disappointed in the service and the presentation of the sushi. I eat sushi nearly 3 times a week. I believe the ratings for this place are misleading and people that don't really know about sushi find this place to be acceptable. The quality of the fish was good however, the rolls seemed rushed in how they were rolled and the tuna tataki was missing key ingredients. Orders are brought on one single plate and we have to figure out who gets what and there are no secondary plates for division. We finally just left fedup rather than fully fed. If you are really Sushi eater this place is middle of the road. Great place to take large groups to keep costs low. When you have a bunch of kids that eat California roll and tempura or for those that aren't sushi snobs this place is sufficient. But if you are on a date or are a sushi lover this place doesn't cut it. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful! Looking around, it is stunning but, it is always really cold, maybe bring a sweater. The food was absolutely wonderful! It always is! But the service is lacking. They're clearly understaffed because the main server is always in a rush and you can't get their attention easily. There's miscommunication among staff because our food has been brought to the wrong tables multiple times. The server will frequently forget items and beverages. I've definitely had great experiences at this restaurant, but it's a gamble on how well it will go. read more

For the price and value I think this is a very good AYCE sushi restaurant. Dinner was $30.98 and included one free drink (choice of soft drinks, domestic beer, or small sake), unlimited food and no up charges for sashimi, and dessert. The restaurant interior design was also very unique and pretty. Service was good especially by the waiters taking the orders. The good: liked the unique interior design, overall good service, good menu selection, and all the "extras" included in the AYCE including the free drink and the wide range of high quality desserts. Some dishes were better than others, I would note the sushi appetizers, sashimi, seafood soup, and Naruto roll were my favorite and I think the best quality and value of the different dishes I ordered. The free drink was a great extra. Also they had a pretty wide range of desserts to choose from, and the green tea and red bean ice cream was the expensive, high quality kind. And they gave a huge portion of it! The seafood soup was chock full of artificial crab, clams, and shrimp. A tad too much white pepper for my taste but still very good. The needs improvement: the staff serving the dishes from the kitchen either can't read or don't pay attention to their delivery slips. We have multiple people just walk up to our table and plop a dish in front of us and walk away without even saying anything, and it wasn't even something we ordered! Also as our meal went on, they got slower at making some of the dishes we ordered, like the 2nd and 3rd plate of sashimi took a much longer time to be delivered to us than the 1st. Also one piece of tuna sashimi I got was really nasty, and sort of disintegrated in my mouth, I don't think it was defrosted properly. But the other pieces of tuna I ate were fine. I have been to a lot of AYCE sushi places and this place is the best for the money. $31 a person including a drink with refills or you can get one free alcoholic drink. I don't usually like sashimi, but I tried some here and was hooked. Rolls are very good and different from many places. The only negative I could say is that the appetizers were lacking. The kani salad tasted the closest to real crab that I have tried. And if you don't try the tempura cheesecake, then don't go at all. Hands down my new favorite dessert. I recently visited Sushi Masa and unfortunately had a pretty disappointing experience. We were basically ignored for about an hour and a half, and in that entire time each of us only received two rolls. Meanwhile, it seemed like the tables around us were getting their food regularly, which made it even more frustrating. If I'm paying around $28 for an all you can eat, I expect to actually be able to eat and not spend most of the time waiting. The sushi we did get was fine, but the service and wait time really overshadowed everything. I hope they can improve their attention to all tables because the concept is great, the execution just didn't match the price. read more

This new AYCE sushi is a step above the rest. I was looking for a venue for my birthday lunch. Although the site stated they are having a soft opening, and two hours away, I couldn't pass up a chance to try a new place. This place is an absolute gem. Everything from the interior, food, and service were excellent. The interior is stylish and unique. There's a large waiting area, separated by a koi fish stream and an adorable bridge leading to the main dining areas. Plenty of seating For any occasion, be it a date night or a large party, There is even an enclosed area for karaoke fun. Food....For $30 per person, patrons have a wide of variety of choices. Everything from rolls, to appetizers and main dishes. Dishes were nearly plated and delicious. My party sampled a number of items, and none of them disappointed. Service was smooth and expedite. Staff were friendly and well versed on explains menu items. Our server checked on us periodically, and was at the ready whenever we needed something. I'm not often a fan of AYCE establishments usually because sometimes it can be intimidating, but I'm a diehard when it comes to sushi and I feel like I just had to try this place out. When I walked in, I was initially not expecting much but I was actually blown away by the aesthetic in this place - it's actually pretty freaking cool. Everything from the art, to the fake "stream" that they have at the entrance, to the neon glowing lights all over. The details are there and the vibe is immaculate. The service was great for the most part and everyone was very nice so had no issues there. The quality of the sushi seemed very up to par but even though it seemed like they maybe could have had some more options (I think Sushi King has more to choose from). A couple of friends and I went here last night for my birthday since we saw really good reviews online, but we were all disappointed after our experience. 1) Food: I was the most disappointed in the food. For reference, I love sushi and I'm from Hawaii. I tried the tuna and salmon sushi, which were okay the first time and then when I got them again, the texture felt off. My friend got spicy tuna sashimi and although I've had the crushed/smashed spicy tuna at other establishments, Sushi Masa's has panko embedded in it, the texture was too smashed in my opinion so it visually looked off, and the spiciness overtook the tuna too much. I also got two rolls: Red Dragon Roll and Baby Tiger Roll. In the Red Dragon Roll, the shrimp tempura had no seasoning at all. In the Baby Tiger Roll, I honestly could not taste any of the fish - the sauces and the avocado (surprisingly) were the only things I tasted. My friend also got the teriyaki steak - although it was tender, it also lacked seasoning. Overall, I personally felt like I was just eating food just to eat it instead of truly enjoying the flavors of the sushi. For $30.98 for AYCE dinner and the options they have, it's not bad. However, the actual quality of food did not meet my expectations, and I was looking forward to trying this place out for months. 2) Service: our server didn't ask if we've been here before or if we wanted to even do AYCE. We overheard another server explain how it works to a larger group while we were assumed that we just wanted to do AYCE. Although we did want to do AYCE, there was no proper introduction of our server and their offerings. After we asked for more time during the initial talk, they took a really long time to get back to us to take our first order. They also forgot my friend's miso soup the first time and had to ask again when we ordered the next time. 3) Ambiance: the entrance is cute and then it opens up bigger sections, but it kind of loses the ambiance once you're put into those different sections read more

I came out of Yelp hibernation to write this review. Sushi Masa is definitely the best all you can eat sushi in Richmond. You are greeted at the door by a really extensive interior. The staff or really friendly and fast. Most importantly, the all you can menu was incredible and it was some of the best gyoza and fried rice I think I've ever had. The bonus is that a fountain drink is included in a price which you can substitute for wine, sake, or beer. I will be back! read more

Like come on so cool! You can even buy the fish food they have, so you can feed them! The all you can eat sushi was really good! Fish tasted fresh and the my son LOVED the noodles and the ice cream of course lol! I can't remember the name of the dishes we ordered but I'm sure everything on the menu is probably just as good.
