I swung by Arilang for lunch and it didn't disappoint! I got the bento box lunch combo and it was the perfect portion and I loved that I could try a bit of everything. The sashimi were so good and the shrimp tempura was so crispy! Gotta return to try more of their menu

Great food. Rice was wonderful and didn't distract from the fish. Rolls were not all over sauced and fresh. We went early and there were a few tables seated, we chose the bar seats and had super attentive service!

Great sushi at the ground level of apartment complex. There is public parking available for easy access. The sashimi that I ordered came in huge portion. They were fresh and delicious. The soft shell crab roll was yummy as well. There are many options to choose from. Really worth coming back for more.

I have visited a couple times and each time the food was delicious and cooked to order. The inside is small, yet there is seating and it was never packed, so I was able to sit comfortably. It was not loud. Very quiet and peaceful. The staff are very nice and welcome. The menu is vast for food and drinks. I live sitting outside and enjoying the breeze. Their fried squid/calamari rings are fresh cut and fried perfectly. The plum wine..... delicious.

This is my second time at Arilang and it's definitely one of my favorite sushi spots in Short Pump. We were able to seat ourselves and our server brought water and the menus over quickly. If you are going for a certain occasion, it wouldn't be my first choice because of the causal atmosphere. If you want good sushi and great service this is the place to go. We started with the fried oyster appetizer which was surprisingly good. The miso soup has a few extras - onion and maybe cabbage but it was still a hit. The salmon belly special was the highlight of my meal. Super tasty! The salmon was slightly torched. Perfection! The white tuna and yellowtail tasted fresh and the portions were huge. If you're in Short Pump and looking for good sushi, definitely give Arilang a try!

Such a unique little spot! The owner, Sofia, truly makes the whole atmosphere warm and welcoming. Her special rolls are amazing -- the one in my photo is her extra special roll, and I absolutely fell in love with it. Definitely ask for it if you dine here! My only concern is the ventilation, but I'm still giving 5 stars because the food is genuinely delicious and the hospitality is wonderful. I just hope they improve the ventilation over time. Overall: very tasty food, cozy vibe, and a super friendly owner who makes you feel at home.

One of my favorite sushi restaurants in Richmond. I love that everything is fresh, nothing's overpriced, and the sushi is consistent. The space is exactly what you'd expect, super cute... cozy...karaoke from time to time... but great service I'm really sweet staff. I highly recommend trying the tea... It's made in-house. The sake is always on point & they even have specials on Wednesdays!

My husband and I were both on our lunch break and decided to try Arilang Sushi for a lite lunch. We saw that it was close to home so doable in our hour break (we both work from home) and we both enjoy trying something new. For our sushi a hamachi roll. Hamachi is probably my favorite fish for sushi. The roll was good. The fish seemed fresh and I liked the combination of flavors. We also got a shrimp tempura roll, a spicy salmon rolls, spicy pickled cucumber and miso soup. I like that their spicy sushi wasn't laden in mayo. The salmon had a nice sesame oil flavor and the tempura was covered with crispy onion. Good but rich. Miso soup was watery and I could hear the microwave. I know, I can't expect them to make fresh miso soup but a microwave? I should know better. The cucumbers were good but needed acid or salt. They weren't the traditional Japanese cucumber salad but I liked the Korean spice on them. A nice twist. Just add some rice wine vinegar or soak in Kosher salt before adding the seasoning and it would make a difference. They weren't pickled so don't expect that when ordering this dish. The decor was, well, homemade. I could tell this was probably a place put together by a family doing the labor than a contractor. Not saying that is bad, but don't expect to come here for a fancy meal. This is a family place, put together by a family and run by a family. I just know the location must be super expensive so I sincerely hope they make enough money to make a real go of it. While we were there during peak lunch time, there were only 5 tables including us. If everyone spends $50 it doesn't seem like enough to pay the rent and keep the doors open but what do I know. Bottom line, order the sushi, support the family and skip the miso soup and spicy cucumber salad.

My partner brought me here after stumbling upon it a couple months ago, and I thought he was just being dramatic when he talked about how amazing it was. He was not. I left Arilang so happy and satisfied and could not recommend it more. Everyone who works there is so nice and the sushi was just amazing. High quality fish with such large portions sizes. I got 2 unagi hand rolls and 5 salmon nigiri and shared the salmon belly nigiri special. SO GOOD

Full length version: At long last, Richmond is becoming fancier -- we finally have a choice of truly classy restaurants, not just mediocre eateries with questionable food quality and even more questionable hygiene. Perry's at Short Pump was probably the first upscale place in our area. Another pleasant surprise is Ariland Sushi in the West End: more affordable, yet still a genuinely classy little sushi restaurant. The freshness of the food is beyond reproach, and everything is prepared right in front of you. Impeccable taste. Cleanliness? We were shown the back of Ariland Sushi -- impeccably clean, with an abundance of eco‑friendly cleaners and disinfectants. A Michelin‑star restaurant would be proud. The hostess, Sophia, who is also a skilled chef, will win your heart. I only hope they don't raise their prices after this review.

Ordered lunch today. 1) spicy cucumber salad was awful. Thrown together - pieces were thick and hard. 2) Eel, white tuna (escolar) and Red Tuna were not at all fresh. Interesting that very few of their roles only list out Spicy Tuna which is cut up and mixed with spicy sauce vs whole pieces of tuna on top or inside the rolls. 3) Eel was tough and chewy. 4) I watched them prepare the rolls when I was in the restaurant and the sushi chef was struggling to even cut through the white Tuna. Again, worst sushi that I have had in the area, I threw most of it out when I got home.

I read about this place opening and since I had to shop at Whole Foods and Arilang was just around the corner I popped in for a quick dinner. I was going to sit at the sushi bar but the height of the counter and short chairs made for an uncomfortable ergonomic dining experience, so I chose a quiet table towards the front instead. I hope management reads my comment about the short chairs at the sushi counter and makes adjustments. My menu and drink was delivered quickly and it took just a few moments to select what I wanted. Speaking of menu I was surprised not to see a tossed salad either ginger Dressing on the menu. It's such a standard and a delicious to those who want to eat healthy. My pork gyoza arrived piping hot which is the only way they should ever be served. I would have liked to have a small saucer to dip the dumplings in as the sauce was already spooned on top of them. The rolls arrived next. However I did ask for the Eel Hand Roll and what arrived was two slices of eel propped on top of a white cold crunchy vegetable. Drawing the attention of my server I showed her a picture of a hand roll and explained this is what I expected and she quickly went back to the chef. A few minutes later my desired eel hand roll arrived and boy it was good. The small yet unassuming restaurant did fill up with many couples and families which was great to see and after tasting my dinner it was clear why it filled up quickly. I'd recommend Arilang Sushi for lunch or dinner it's very casual and quite tasty.

We arrived on a Friday in July around 6:30 PM. Parking is scarce right in front of the restaurant but we easily found a spot about a block away. Also, it is very near Whole Foods that has a huge parking lot. The small restaurant was about half full with all the sushi bar seats taken. They are kind of fancy seats too! We were immediately greeted and asked to pick a table. We have been snake bit trying to find a decent sushi place in Richmond or Charlottesville. After reading the great reviews on Arilang, we decided to give it a go. There appears to be only one person taking orders and delivering drinks so service was a bit slow and haphazard. There were other people that helped deliver food. We had dirty plates that were still on the table when we left (pet peeve of mine). We ordered a bottle of wine, and the fried oyster appetizer. We waited a while for both. In fact, the oysters came after they delivered our main meal. However, they were quite good with a light panko crust. I decided on the Love in Tuna Poke bowl, and my spouse got the Shrimp Tempura Roll and Creamy Eel Special. The seafood in everything was very fresh. The Poke bowl had several slices of delectable tuna surrounded by mango, avocado, celery, cucumber and seaweed salad on top of greens. It was so delicious! Both of the rolls were equally as tasty. They had just the right amount of rice and stuffing, and they were large rolls. This is definitely going on the "we'll be back" list.

Arilang Roll ! So good !!!!! So fresh!

They were a bit busy and understaffed for servers. But when food came out it was great.

I threw away the California roll (because I can't eat it) and looked over to the next. As soon as I was about to pick up a piece, I realize there is a hair in the sushi... I tried eating a few pieces but was honestly just really disgusted and annoyed. The few pieces I did eat fell apart as soon as I picked them up and were rolled improperly. 2 disgusting rolls for $20 after waiting for 45 minutes = 2 stars. And that is me being generous. There is a lot of free parking out front and near this spot. It's in a sort of strip mall and can be a little confusing to get to, but if you follow your GPS it should be fine. Dining in or takeout are both great options here. You get your food quickly either way. I love their signature purple rice that comes with the sushi here. I also adore their nigiri choices.
