The Nigari lunch special that is $12.50 for 5 pieces and my Girlfriend asked could they be all vegetarian (the menu never specified it has to be fish and they have vegetable rolls). She wanted to do this cause it was a smaller amount of rolls, a lunch size. They said no you can't have the special you can order the the regular veggie one off the dinner menu and its 3 dollars more. It's already 12.50 for lunch which is a spurge for us. We don't want to pay almost $16 for 6 veggie rolls when she can barely eat 5. I asked for a manager and when she came over she said was super rude and said no to our request. Then she asked me is that all, cause I have other things to do (with not an once of understanding). I said that is all and we got up and walked out. I will never go back! After a ridiculously unacceptable incident at the NW Mio, I came here to regain some faith in sushi chefs. I kind of did, but at a steep price. The Fish: decently cut, I've had thicker for the price. Great quality though, the best in Vancouver that I've seen so far. Fresh, right temp, decent ratio of rice, good sushi rice. The egg nigiris: flavorful, not too salty, fresh, Uni was yellow (no brown) and held it's shape, definitely at least California Premium grade (formerly Grade B) and up. The service: got greeted by the chefs right away & got seated right away. But we waited almost 10 mins before our server came to take our drink order. Rough start, but everything was fine after that. The interior: lighting was too dark, I like to see my raw food better than that. Staff was nice. Decor mediocre. The missing star is due to their overpricing! Excellent sushi in Vancouver, right in downtown. It still hasn't opened fully, the soft opening was a week or two ago. The nigiri and sashimi presentation was spot on, and the fish was definitely fresh. They had tuna belly as well, bravo. They also had a steelhead special. I had never tried steelhead sushi so I have nothing to compare it to, but it was very good. Food was really good and it was A lot of food. Sure it's pricey but you get what you pay for. Don't come in with high expectations so that you give it a fair review. It blew me away though. I would drive down from Seattle everyday to eat at this restaurant if I could!! Absolutely the best Hamachi belly I have ever had. I don't know how but this sushi is the freshest I've had in a long time. The fish was incredibly fresh. The staff was attentive and positive. Possibly the best sushi spot in Vancouver. That's not saying much because there aren't many to begin with. It is trying to serve high end sushi at a family restaurant. Best thing about this place is the fresh wasabi. It really is fresh wasabi but has scallions and other things mixed in, which make it taste a bit like wasabi aoli instead of actual wasabi that goes with sushi. Presentation of the food is nice, but it doesn't taste how it looks. If you want good sushi, go somewhere else. If you want a decent food for a date night, this place might work. read more

Not impressed. After reading all the fab reviews of this restaurant, I decided to try it out. Ordered the Volcano and the Seahawks. The Seahawks was pretty good (Go Seahawks!), but very small portion - only 5 small pieces. The Volcano was not very good. They cooked it in tempura batter and when I picked it up, only 10 minutes after calling it in, it was soggy and lacked flavor. Considering it was suppose to have the following: spicy crab, cucumber, avocado topped w/ spicy tuna, potato flakes, scallion, tobiko, sweet sauce & spicy aioli - It was not very loaded with those ingredients. I couldn't even taste any spicy Tuna and only a hint of the spicy crab. The only flavors that came through was the tobiko that was heavily loaded on top and the soggy tempura batter...Very disappointing! Just those two rolls cost me almost $28! Ouch!!! Not the fresh sushi I expected from the reviews I read. Needless to say, I will not be returning. I prefer Yoko's Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar (#1), followed closely by Bamboo Sushi. read more

I love Sushi Mo! I go there several times a year and think it's truly one of the best sushi spots in Vancouver. The owner is awesome and remembers her customers, always greeting you with a smile and a hug. The ambiance is wonderful and the atmosphere is lovely. This is a quiet place with great food. We had the sweet and spicy edamame-it's edamame covered in a sweet and spicy sauce and toasted sesame seeds. There wasn't much heat, just enough to flavor. We were given towels to wipe our hands after eating since it was sticky. For the sushi-we had three flavors: mango madness, California with real crab, and crunch roll. The California tasted like air-so light and everything very finely chopped inside. The crunch roll had great texture and the melted cream cheese was great. Was visiting Vancouver for a training and the team was debating between Thai, Indian or Sushi. The crew voted for sushi so we turned to trusty ol' Yelp for a suggestion. Sushi Mo came up as the top choice for the 'Couv so we headed on out. The restaurant was about three-quarters full when we arrived (about 7:30). The place is very clean and modern-looking. What really stands out is the service. The owner Monica makes you feel like a long-time customer coming in to "Cheers" and the server (who I can't recall her name) was super friendly as well. The chef even came by over the course of dinner to check in with us to see how we were doing. We saw Monica hugging a number of guests as they left the restaurant. The sushi was really good. The fish was quite fresh. One of our party said the unagi was exemplary. The presentation was excellent as our sushi came out on a huge wooden boat. As we were getting ready to leave, Monica asked if we were in a rush and offered us a free fried tempura green tea ice cream. It was surrounded by a half of dozen mochi ice cream dumplings. It was really refreshing and a great way to finish the meal. We would definitely come back and highly recommend it. read more
