The rolls are decent but small. The delivery times are high (45-50 mins vs 15-25 at out local place, Umami). The second time we called to order, we were put on hold for ten minutes and then hung up on. We called back, but the staff didn't really care. We will be sticking to Umami. read more

It was quiet and definitely nice enough, but a little more effort on the decor would help the experience live up to quality of the sushi. Sushi Niji is great. Dobbs has a lot going on when it comes to restaurants. And some of the favorite destinations can get reallllly packed and crazy and loud. But Sushi Niji is always lovely, packed or not. They have great, fresh sushi without fail. Phillip, at the sushi chef, is a gentleman and amazing. Makes a great Poke too, which can be hard to find in the States. Sushi deluxe is also great. Also love the uni hand roll. The restaurant is always peaceful and feels very traditional; not a loud hip sushi spot that's packed to the brim with BS. And if you live in Dobbs, or somewhere nearby, this is the place to make a take-out order. Their prices are better than other places in town and nothing is sacrificed; their sushi is top notch. Sushi Niji is a no hype, no bs sushi joint in dobbs. We've been getting take-out since it opened. We've bounced around over the years from Sushi Man in Ardsley, to Sazan, to Sushi Mike's and finally have settled on Niji. The actual restaurant lacks character and environment and certainly wouldn't be good for a Date or something like that; however, for quick lunches with friends it's fine. The food is priced very reasonably, portions are decent, and it is consistent in quality and preparation and fresh all the time. I have never, ever gotten so much as an upset stomach from niji (have from other places). The spicy tuna is delicious with the tempura flakes they add. All in all, great for takeout. read more

I wanted to update my review for this place, in the hope that someone from the restaurant will read it. While it's been a number of years since I waited tables myself, I think I remember the etiquette. The servers here are just not up to speed. Is it ever okay to reach across me, with your hand inches from my face, while I'm having a conversation, to top off my water glass that's nearly full already? Why would you take away a salad or soup bowl before I'm finished, without asking? Why do you hover next to the table and (literally) SCOWL at me while I am eating? What is the big hurry to remove things from the table so frequently? The food is good, but you may want to get it to go, because the servers at this restaurant make the experience rather unpleasant. read more

My opinion of this place is on the rise. I'm a Sushi Mike's girl, but Sushi Mike's doesn't deliver, and Sushi Niji does. I used to order delivery from Niji, and was always like eh, this is okay, but really I was just wishing I was eating the fresh deliciousness of Sushi Mike's. Then I stopped ordering delivery and just would always drive over for take out at Mike's, especially when I realized how fast they prepare their take out. But something came over me last week, and I was like eh... I REALLY don't want to trek the like 1 mile to Sushi Mike's, and I ordered delivery from Niji. I checked their menu online... what's this? Check these Chef's Specialty Rolls... I ordered the Fuji Mountain and the American Roll.. both were delicious... not Sushi Mike's quality, but WAYYYYYY better than I remembered Niji being! My parents' house is under renovation, so we've been ordering out a lot (no kitchen access) so I ordered some more rolls for myself later in the week and just a basic sushi assortment for dear old dad. After a few bites he looked at me in shock and said, "you said you got this at Niji? Huh.... Better than I remembered..." My rolls were pretty good - fresh, creative, but the spicy mayo on the Spicy Girl roll was kind of gross. Kind of congealed or something - not very fresh... So long story short and a bunch of delivery orders later, I'm still a Sushi Mike's girl, but I now like Niji enough to order delivery if I'm feeling lazy. Niji must be stepping up their game, and I'll be keeping an eager eye on them for future improvements... P.S. I've never eaten physically at Sushi Niji. I don't even really know where it is. I mean, if I'm going into Dobbs Ferry for eat-in sushi - why would I go for anything but Mike's? Then again... maybe one of those times Mike's is too crowded (as can often happen) either to seat anyone else or just too crowded for my taste... My review is for the food only. My cousin and I picked up a to-go order so I'm not too sure about the restaurant ambiance and service, etc. The sushi however was SO fresh. I ordered the Maki Combo A, which was the tuna, salmon, and California roll. The pieces were somewhat small but there were a lot of them, probably about 18 pieces in total. I was definitely not expecting that much sushi for only $14.95. The presentation of the rolls was even appetizing, especially for a to-go order. Good value, friendly service, and fresh fish. It's tough to compete with Sushi Mikes, but this is an excellent alternative: more affordable and never crowded. I also like that they start serving lunch early (at 11, I think) and the location is ideal for taking a study break from the library. It's not a special spot worth going out of your way for, but if you're a DF resident or in the neighborhood, this is a great reliable place for your sushi fix. read more

The presentation is not as good. The service is not as good. The food is delicious. The people are nice. There aren't a million tables crammed into a small location like at Mikes. You don't have to fight the crowds to get into Niji. And the sushi is solid. Plain, everyday, basic sushi done well. read more

You can't beat this sushi lunch special. Sure, I have had better but here you get soup, salad and 2 or 3 rolls for under 12 bucks. They are yummy for the most part. I like the staff. Excellent food - no complaints there. But I have aversion to avocado - I just don't like it. Why was I asked to pay $1 extra to remove it from my California roll? The reason was that they would have to replace it with something that would cost more. Uh, no, just leave it out please. Wonderful sushi, very inventive Chef's Special rolls and great bento box options. I'm addicted to the salmon teriyaki: perfectly cooked, always a lovely, high quality filet, with gorgeous vegetables, perfect shumai, salad and miso. No shortcuts or skimping here. The sushi was good, nothing was fishy or odd. as far as heir special rolls they didn't have a huge variety (seemed like most was tuna and then a few with salmon) but it was satisfying. The special rolls are enormous. My hubby and I can usually put down a good amount of food but the two of us couldn't finish 4 rolls! It just felt like there was a LOT of rice and a LOT of fish. I never thought i'd say that a sushi place gave us too much but I guess it would have been better to just order as we went on with the evening. Anyway, they gave us free hot sake (which i'm not a fan of but drank anyway) and the price was right! I'd go back and try it again :) read more

I found this place on this site and was not disappointed with the food! The Spicy Girl Roll is absolutely delicious, as were the dumplings. The service however, could use a bit of improvement. The server misheard us and brought us Saporro instead of water and still left it at the table and charged us. They also did not ask us if we were done eating before they brought the check. Would not rush back here to eat in, but would highly consider getting takeout from here. read more

Holy Bento Batman! Sushi Niji is a nice, cozy spot to enjoy a meal. My first time there I ordered a Bento meal and wow! It was more food than I could handle. Good sushi that's made very well and leaves me stuffed! Very decent service too. I seem to go at good times because by the time I leave, every seat is taken. I don't quite understand why there is a television on the wall of this place, doesn't quite seem to fit the atmosphere but I'm sure they have their reasons. read more

Great atmosphere. Had the special of the day when I went (unfortunately I don't remember the name of it since I'm writing this review much after I've last been there- but Sushi Niji was good enough that I still care to write about it.) There was no wait when we got there, the wait staff took care of us immediately, and most importantly, the sushi was excellent! I preferred Sushi Niji over Sushi Mike because every time I went to Sushi Mike's the place was too crowded to get a seat, when you did the tables are small and crammed together, and the atmosphere at Sushi Niji is much more traditional too. Haven't been up the street to the other sushi place in a few years after getting comfortable with this place. Everything we've had here is yums. Don't really eat the sushi so can't speak to that but the hibachi chicken is good, so are the noodle dishes, yaki soba or whatever the thinner noodle is. Bunch of other stuff. Though I cannot speak for the hot food, I have had several kinds of sushi there on several occasions and each time it was fresh and delicious. This is kind of a "sister review" to my review of "Tokyo house" a few miles south, as, these are my two standards for reasonably priced, impeccably clean, and good, if not innovative sushi and the like. A couple years ago, Sushi Niji had troulbe with the consistency of its rice ( it was overcooked ) and, I brought it to their attention a couple of times. It seems to have been worked out. They are unfailingly polite, and seek, in my eye, to really give the customer what they want. I'd recommend any person that is unsure about Sushi Mike's which has taken a bit of a battering of late, walk the 3 long blocks down the hill to the much quieter, and far superior, Sushi Niji. read more

We came here because Sushi Mike's was closed. I can't believe this restaurant got the same 4 star rating as Sushi Mikes. It was really not good. The salad was ok, the miso soup was watery, and the sushi itself was really mediocre. I ordered the three roll lunch special and the fish was just not that fresh or tasty. Last night (Saturday Night) had the Bright Idea to invite my in-laws out to dinner to Sushi Mike's in Dobbs Ferry. When we got there we were told the wait would be 2 hours, no we were going to wait so we drove around Dobbs looking for an alternative I think we pasted by Sushi Niji twice and didn't give it a thought only when we found that every other place in town was Packed did we decide to go and give in a try as a last resort. glad we did it wasn't Sushi Mikes but put this place in any other Town in Westchester and it become the best Sushi in town. the 4 of us ordered the Love boat for 4 special wow Holy Sashimi! it was Good it had all sorts of rolls and Sashimi from Tuna to Eel to Sea Urchin some better than others but overall very good and tasty and lets not forget reasonable. in conclusion if your in Dobbs Ferry, in the Mood for sushi and can't get in to Sushi Mike's or don't wanna deal with the Crowd Choose Sushi Niji you won't regret it:) read more
