We usually have to flag a waiter down - The nigiri, sashimi, and maki rolls were all pretty good; everything was up to par - They have mochi ice cream and other desserts! Cons: - The nigiri were packed with the most amount of rice I have ever seen. Six rolls equated to about an entire bowl of rice. I'm talking massive rice balls. It's like I was eating onigiri instead of nigiri. - They require you to order a roll for every 3 sashimi you order... rolls are VERY filling, so this means you end up getting 4 or 5 sashimi per person max - They were REALLY slow filling our 3rd order... we started getting really full in that time period Overall, I have a pretty high standard because they are competing with Sakura Nami which is right down the street. My first time back since their reopening and I'm not sure what happened :( Soup and salad was great. Fried scallops great. Sesame balls great. However when I was brought out my sushi I poured my soy sauce out. It was so light in color, which was strange. I tasted it and it was completely watered down. I asked our server if I could have different soy sauce, she said the one on the table is "low sodium". Low sodium is the only soy sauce I eat...... It was watered down. She then brought me "regular soy sauce" and it came out so much thicker and darker in color, with the taste soy sauce is supposed to have. It was so weird. So so weird. Never have I ever experienced watered down soy sauce at any restaurant, let alone an AYCE sushi restaurant. The salmon nigiri also kind of tasted like sea world when it wasn't doused in soy sauce, but everything else was good. For what's now a $28.99 per person meal, I expected more. My favorite was angel hair roll, it was really light and tasted really good. I only ordered rolls with shrimp tempura I will say they are all good. We did the all you can eat sushi, we enjoyed 2 glasses of lychee saki, seaweed salad, yakitori, miso soup, & about 6 different types of specialty sushi rolls. I really can say the Tuna Nagiri & the Unagi Nagiri was mouth watering too! My only issue was that I didn't notice most of their specialty rolls had either cream cheese or tempura style shrimp (which was my fault for not reading it). This place is DA PLACE for AYCE Sushi!!!! This is bold, but I am going to say that this is the BEST AYCE SUSHI RESTAURANT for AYCE sushi veterans in the Chicagoland area. I have eaten at over 10 different AYCE places in the area in the last several years, and when I look back, no place matches the variety as well as the quality of options at Sushi Nova (think a better version of the famous Sushi Taku in the city). What place in Illinois offers soft shell crab as an appetizer, three pieces of sashimi per roll you order, mochi ice cream, and nigiri that isn't overpacked with rice (or at least for now) for ~$25 AYCE?? Nuf said. I would also like to add that this place has the best quality salmon, tuna, and yellowtail out of any AYCE place I've been to, and the roll selection is actually pretty solid as well (highly recommend the Spicy Crispy Tuna, Mexican, and Fire Dragon rolls). Decent for the price. Service was overall pretty slow (busy Friday evening) and I heard tables to both sides of us complaining about missing items. I'd probably recommend trying to get most of what you want in the first order as you may end up waiting a while when you try to order more later. Most of the appetizers we tried (edamame, gyoza, tempura, miso soup) were pretty good, but the fried oysters tasted extremely fishy - potentially spoiled so I wouldn't recommend those. I liked all of the rolls we ordered as well as the salmon nigiri. Tuna sashimi was so-so but I thought the salmon tasted pretty fresh and melted in the mouth nicely. Note they do have a limit of 3 sashimi per roll you order, but honestly I don't think I've ever seen an ayce sushi place for hardcore sashimi lovers anyway. I was at your Cass Avenue location for the first time last night. Before I go on, I suggest you have people answer the phone inquires who can speak better English or don't speak too fast in a language they are not comfortable with. I had no success in understanding her. The menu and the room are excellently presented and very comfortable, with exception to the sushi bar being closed. I enjoy eating Japanese food and watching for the expertise of the Inami as he prepares items. I like also to order as I eat sushi or sashimi and the site of what is fresh before me helps in my decisions too. The waitress was too fast again and decided on her own that I was shopping price. I just wanted to order properly so I got what I wanted at the right time in the meal and was curious about the "specials". This young lady wanted me to get the "All you can eat" thing, not taking time to understand my questions. The food was fine, with exception to the nori that was either low quality or not stored properly. It was very chewy. I also was sorry for the poor quality of the octopus also. That was impossible to chew and more tuff than I ever had experienced. It was left on the plate. I certainly will return for another try and I feel the place has a great future but only if more attention is paid to quality of service and especially the seaweed problem.
