I usually don't write reviews for restaurants because they always charge when they lose their chef. I'm gonna gamble that review will not jinx the great expertise I had at this restaurant last Saturday. It was my first time. I took my daughter and her boyfriend. I had high hopes for a good experience, and I can tell you, the experience was eve higher than what I anticipated. The sushi is made to order. It was fresh each time. You would think an all-you-can-eat would have limited options. They actually had some fo the traditional rolls, they had more than 20 specialty rolls you could try. They had tasty appetizers, sushi-alternative like fried rice, yakisoba, and habachi. They had special dishes that you can only have 2 dishes per visit. I was lucky enough to have these three different dishes to taste for my favorite. And now I know why you would limit it to two dishes per guest per visit. They even Haden items that little children can be happy with, so the entire family can go. At first I thought the price might be a little steep $26/person. The service, quantity and especially the quality of the food, the $26 was very reasonable. I definitely ate my loners worth if not more. I stand by the average Yelp rating. I think if you're more about the quantity of food consumed and don't care much for service, ambiance, taste, or freshness, then this place will do. Our server was fine. The staff member delivering food to tables did not say a single word to us and looked absolutely miserable. The food was delivered on a cart that restaurants typically use to take away dirty dishes once a party had left. That was unappetizing to me. The host was coughing the entire time all the while walking all over the restaurant, and that gave me the heebie jeebies because we are in flu/cold season. The miso soup made me feel so cheated. It was mostly broth with perhaps a seaweed piece or two and the amount of tofu in it equated to less than one die. The yakisoba at first had a nice smoky taste like it was made freshly in a wok. It was the only dish that came out warm. But as you eat it, you get this unpleasant aftertaste in your mouth because the scallions in it are still quite raw. The sushi tempera is unlike any tempura I've ever had. It did not have the flaky outside other shrimp tempura had. It was essentially a basic fried batter. And, comically, I've never seen a shrimp tempera that was shaped to be one. They literally stuck two or three battered shrimp together. I figured this out when I picked it up, and my shrimp tempura dissembled itself. The sushi itself was okay. I'd equate it to homemade sushi or a sushi roll you'd put together for yourself at home. The temperature of the sushi made me think that it had been sitting out for a while and when someone ordered, they just drizzle the sauce on top and deliver it. My kid didn't even like the food on the kid's menu. The chicken nuggets are three nuggets served with ketchup. The nuggets are flat and I'm pretty sure came from a frozen bag and not made in house. The French fries were crinkle cut fries and were not crunchy at all. They were also room temperature and soft like the fries you'd get at a school lunch. It made me wonder if all they did was microwave frozen fries. The crab salad is essentially shredded imitation crab meat with slivers of cucumber, something I think they just threw together with sushi ingredients. The shu mai appetizer is not steamed. It's deep fried, and tasted exactly like the frozen ones I buy at Hmart. Overall, the quality of food just made me feel offended and cheated. I just didn't feel like this is food that you would professionally feed people at a restaurant. I'm shocked honestly that this kind of food would be served to patrons. read more

This is a new place , well located, plenty of parking, big clear sign. Modern decoration, nice booths and big tables are also available for large groups (18% charge, which is fair). We were welcomed and quickly accommodated by a friendly waitress. The menu is long but easily readable and is well explained (spiced dishes are marked with a little red flame, the raw in blue). There is a wide variety of drinks and beers, some desserts and tiny cute ice cream cups. You order seated at the table (the young lady has an electronic device hanging on her side to take your order, no mistakes) and your food will come soon (the restaurant was 70 % occupied) which is good especially when you are hungry. We liked the presentation of most of the food and the "Sushi Boat" is dramatic and delicious. There is a good variety of exotic sushi (my favorites are all cooked and the one with mango is interesting). The Avocado Salad is not so appealing but it tastes fine and the avocado was ripe for the day. The Crab Rangoon, the Rolls, the Ginger little dish on the side were flavorful. The Edamame is a little to big a portion, of course pungent and explosive as always but is probably too much and not totally original to the Japanese preparation but it is fine, so says my in-law, (who lives in Tokyo and is visiting us). - Bigger dishes like the Beef Yakisoba Noodle and the Hibachi Vegetable Shrimp have nice presentation (see pictures) and flavor. This not a haute cuisine restaurant but it is clean, price is good, menu is varied, the flavor is here and the service is good. I am not a sushi aficionado but I was quite happy. The menu itself is not grand in size, but still plenty to choose from. You can eat as much as you want, but must eat all you order. I tired for the apps shrimp tempura. Shrimp sashimi, beef gyoza dumplings and the crab Rangoon. All smal portions, but so good. For sushi I tried the smoked salmon, which does have a very smokey taste, spicy salmon, salmon with cream cheese and cucumber and the avocado roll, which is exactly what it is. I had the avocado salad, which are slices with a brown sauce over it. The dessert was a small slice of cheesecake and I ordered chocolate icecream which was reminiscent of an elementary cup. For the price you can't get any better. Of course you can't expect Japan freshness however the rolls are great. The only bad roll we had were the Vegas and volcano rolls. One was filled 95% of rice then fried and the other was fried also but squished and super oily. The tempuras were great and the hamachi in jalapeno sauce was good also. It's a brand new restaurant at a very busy shopping center across from the Costco parking lot. My husband and I had the combination hibachi with hot tea. Unlike other restaurants the tea was made from tea bags - nice and fresh. The stir- fried was delicious, perfectly seasoned and doneness. Just go to Sushi Queen in Ashburn Compared to Sushi Queen, its a smaller restaurant but appears to have the same amount of staff. However the service is quite slow. We saw our server once in 45 minutes. Lines of sushi sat on the counter with many cooks prepping, but they didnt go anywhere. Portion sizes are also smaller than Sushi Queen. Our server also wiped our table with a napkin prior to seating us, so hygiene is questionable. Would not recommend since Sushi Queen is a better experience only 15 minutes away. read more

I'm not sure if they have any sort of media presence to communicate with customers but my only quarrel is that someone has to drive to the location in order to see the signage stating no new customers. Busy waitress so hard to call her and took my attention to order a second one. When you order for the first time, order from the appetizer main rolls, and dessert. Starting with the good, the service was significantly above average (everyone was working hard and running around) given it was 6p Sunday evening and the place was packed. Frankly expectations were not too high given this is their soft opening, and they are still working out the kinks. It is an open eating area, so I found it fairly noisy and difficult to hold a conversation without raising your voice. The concept of an all-you-can eat sushi/hibachi sit down establishment is a good idea. You order directly off the menu which is quite extensive. Similar to a Brazilian Steakhouse, you continue to order until you've had enough. They simply ask that you do not over order and waste food (like most all-you-can eat and/or buffet restaurants, doggie bags are not allowed). As far as the quality of food, we weren't very impressed overall. We found the sushi to be "soft/mushy" and the rolls were short on rice. I found they liked to heavily coat the sushi with sauces to cover up the inferior fish. My wife liked the combo hibachi entree, but the fried rice had little to no flavor. There are quite a few sushi restaurants in the area that far exceed this place when it comes to quality, authenticity, and freshness, but for $26 all-you-can eat, well you get what you pay for. Even at Wegmans or Harris Teeter you can't get much more than two rolls for $26 but I'd easily say Wegmans and Harris Teeter's sushi better than Sushi Ohayo; you just get a lot more to eat at Sushi Ohayo and because everyone tries to get the most out of their money, you most patrons overeat. Bottom line, if you are looking for a mediocre place to gorge, Sushi Ohayo is your place, but if you want a quality meal, hit one of the highly rated ala carte sushi restaurants in the area. read more
