Bought a $100 gift card for Sushi on Main last September for my mom's 90th birthday. She moved to Roseville several years ago, but has always talked about this place. We checked their open hours online and our plan was to have lunch there yesterday. What a disappointment to pull up (after driving 3 hours) and find that the restaurant is being remodeled and has been sold. Everything online indicates they are open. I was able to obtain the owner's email address and am waiting to see if he'll reimburse us. I have given the restaurant a 5 star rating as I'm hopeful the owner will do the right thing. read more

Hey there party people Trying to beat the heat at home so we headed to Halfmoon Bay. Decided to satisfy Hubby's Craving for Sushi. We picked a great place called Sushi on Main Street. It had a great Kyoto Vibe with a moody interior that transported you to Japan. Exceptionally clean even had little bottles of Purell on each table. I am not a fish person so I'm all about the pot stickers and edamame. The Pot stickers were generously filled with very tasty pork. You could get chicken, beef or shrimp as well. Hubby got the "Lady Gaga" and "Dragon" rolls. They were both delicious according to Hubby. He was super impressed with the Gaga roll. I went the ala carte route. Getting a bowl rice, green salad and Ginger Chicken appetizer. It made for the perfect lunch. The ginger sauce on the chicken was super thick almost like a teriyaki but with this amazing ginger tang. Hard Pass!!! What a weird place..... On Feb 5, 2025 My friend and I had dinner here. 1. Beautiful ambiance that feels like Thai style. 2. Service was a little slow, but overall fine. 3. Received the most unappealing plate and cuts I've ever seen. Immediately without tasting you could visibly see the tuna was spoiled (the red Tuna was Brown, some other fish on the plate was turning grey.) Humm, my first thought was... I'll just leave those two fish and try the other fish. My mistake! Bit into a different fish and the repugnant taste flooded my mouth. Inedible plate.. HARD PASS! !!! I also ordered the "sexy me roll"...humm, I've never had glob of mayo assault my taste buds on a fish roll...PASS My friend ordered a roll with three ingredients... Commonly known as a California Roll. Crab, cucumber & avacado..... why was she served a roll with imitation crab and cucumber???? This is a very basic roll. Even that was not done correctly. After spending a couple of hours beachcombing nearby, I decided to take a stroll downtown which amounted to about three blocks on Main Street. I was noticing that a lot of restaurants appear to stick around in Half Moon Bay including this sushi restaurant which has been in the same spot for 35 years. The only thing they've changed is a preposition they added to their name. It used to be called 'Sushi Main Street'. Now it's 'Sushi on Main Street'. I guess somebody pulled out their Strunk & White book. I only just recently tried it for the first time. Staring at their menu outside, I noticed they offer more of a fusion bent to their menu with items like bacon shiitake salad and Oaxaca Mexico rolls. I was here pre-pandemic and loved the place. They have such unique interior and tables, but when I was here just recently, I was pretty disappointed. The food was not very good. We had the rainbow roll which was good but just average. On one of the pieces, the fish was missing which is a bummer given a total of 8 pieces and the price. Another example of Yelp overall rating being right. We visited the HMB area to get away from the terrible heat over the long Labor Day weekend. Looking for a spot to eat downtown and it was clear a lot of other people had similar ideas as a couple of spots that sounded good had lines out the door. Sushi always sounds good and so we stopped in. The place was packed at lunch but we were able to get the last four top table. My wife and kids had the bento boxes which were a bit disappointing in portion size. Price was fair for the area but could have used another 25-30% of the entree. I had the chirashi Don which for $20 was very fair in serving size. Quality of the fish was good. We also had a roll which was very good and generous in size. So I would say 3 stars for the boxes and 4 stars for the sushi. Overall 3-1/2 stars and rounding up. read more

Yesterday, We went to Half moon Bay for the Pumpkin Festival. After the Parade on the Main Street we decided to eat sushi at the Sushi on Main Street Ordered the Shrimp stuffed mushrooms for appetizer. Salmon skin roll, Dragon roll, Scallop Lover for Main dishes and Banana for dessert. The Dragon roll and scallop lover were delicious and good portions 4* /5. But the shrimp stuffed mushrooms was small and the sauce salty 3*/5. The Salmon skin roll was not good just the rice and a little bit salmon skin. I didn't like it. Dessert was Banana tempura just OK 3*/5 but I prefer it with vanilla ice cream better than the stuffed in the dish ( some thing like the condensed milk mixed with a little bit cream? ) The staff was friendly and attentive to Us.! Their $35 sashimi platter is an insult to any as stupid as myself who orders it. It's an assortment of tiny, inedible scraps of the worst parts of the fish, sliced by someone who is either legally blind or afflicted with severe Parkinson's Disease. Everything else from the rolls to the teriyaki to the kastu-don are likewise inedible. $309 order. $41 tip. And this is what you get? The kids couldn't stomach their sad excuse for teriyaki. The rolls were made with less care than a Taco Bell Burrito. This place is horrific and I understand that labor and rent are expensive. Pros: -The space is beautiful (think Indonesian wood and stone tables) -The team there is incredibly helpful, fast and efficient -They have a wide assortment of rolls on the menu (I order something new almost every visit and it never disappoints) -The Beet Salad!! If you like beets and lime-y dressings, GET THIS -Value. This place looks like a cantina restaurant when you walk in - I almost thought we were in the wrong restaurant at first! The decor totally threw me off! We had reservations and although we were running a half hour behind, they were all ready for us with a table. The food took quite a while to come out though, at least 40 minutes. Not sure if it was because we were in the corner but it took a while to get water refills. I also think the server was the only one working, maybe one other person at the most! She was so sweet though and even brought a dessert to the table since we were celebrating a bride and a birthday girl. She managed to keep a smile on her face even though you could tell she was busy. Overall my rating is giving the benefit of the doubt but otherwise the sushi was decent, I did like that it was actually spicy as advertised! As a local, I strive to support local business. I had fond memories of this place back in the day when the place was vibrant and packed with patrons. They were the only sushi place in town. We decided to try this place again after a hiatus, and was unfortunately disappointed with the food. The sushi, while presented nicely, was not fresh and the sukiyaki was mediocre, with very tough beef. 2 stars as the staff was very kind and pleasant. The place could use an uplift as the tables felt sticky and chairs seemed worn. We were the only ones dining over the lunch hour. It was very quiet here on a Wednesday evening. Just us and another couple were dining. I ordered the chirashi which came with tamago, masago, Hamachi, salmon, eel, tuna, ebi and snapper. The portion of rice was just right and was seasoned very nicely. Hubby had ten-don, which came with 3 tempera shrimp and some veggie tempura too. Again, just the right serving portion, not too big.
