FYI--as of this March 4th, the prices have gone up to 17.95 during the week and I believe 18.95 on the weekends--big deal, so still worth it!!! So we found out today the boy got a new job and of course wanted to celebrate....how else? With sushi! And of course everyone on here keeps talking about how great Sushi Palace is...so away we went. First off, this place is teeny, but in a cute way, not a crowded way. We arrived early--around 4:30--and three or four other tables were already full. The woman gave us a table and handed us our menu so we could make our choices--and WOW, were there a lot!!! We decided only to get edamame as an appetizer...and of course a bottle of sake. Both were very tasty, and the edamame was nice and fresh. Next we made our sushi choices(they had two itamaes working too when we got there--and one more on hand when we left!) . For right now, we are sticking to rolls since the boy is new to sushi--and I don't want to gross him out by eating sushi and sashimi in front of him. We ended up getting the shrimp tempura roll, the pink lady, crunchy eel, and two spicy tuna rolls. They were SOOO yummy and super fresh--yes, even for a Monday, fellow yelpers! I was proud of the boy too---the pink lady and the spicy tuna was his first tasting of raw and he really enjoyed them. We did manage dessert--the green tea ice cream is delicious. Everyone that works there is super gracious and just lets you enjoy your sushi without constantly interrupting you. This place is SO worth it!!!!! I've already started recommending it to people! And yes, they have a regular menu, which is still really, really well priced! 03/19/08--I am now officially a Sushi Palace addict. I ate there both Monday and Tuesday of this week and am most likely going back on Friday. It's so good and so worth it. I am addicted to the Pink Lady roll. Also, this past time I tried the sweet roll with mango and what not--good to try but I don't think I would get it again! I'm hoping to try hot food next time along with the rolls....Oh!!! A few days ago I had a craving for sushi and used Yelp to find a restaurant with high ratings. Sushi Palace topped the list, so I decided to give it a go. Parking at Sushi Palace is unfortunately problematic. There is no lot parking available; street parking (with '1-hour limit' signage) seemed to be the only available option. Because I went for an early dinner on a weekday, it was not much of an issue for me - I found sufficient street parking only one block away - however, I would be unsurprised if parking is especially troublesome during the dinner rush and/or weekends. When I entered Sushi Palace, I was seated promptly and was offered a menu. I ordered an assortment of their sashimi, which tasted fresh. The maki and nigiri were also good and made-to-order. The price-value was well balanced. Sushi Palace provided good customer service. Once or twice there were small issues with communication, but the staff worked to ensure their guests were having a positive experience. Recommendation: -Avoid peak dining times in order to avoid parking problems Verdict: I would recommend this place to others. read more

Good sushi at a great value! It's all you can eat for $20! I had 6 mackerel, 6 eel, 4 tuna, 4 salmon, 4 yellowtail, 2 red snapper, 2 squid, and one spicy grilled salmon roll with mango! Didn't care for the squid, a the tuna was a little bland...even for sashimi. I LOVED the eel, mackerel, and the spicy grilled salmon roll! I also ordered edamame which was mediocre (not very fresh). One of the best all-you-can-eat sushi places in New Haven! At least, better than the other ones I've been to in the area. The service was very quick and although the store itself is small, it felt cozy. The various rolls were pretty good-- first time I had mango in sushi that actually tasted good. Some of the rolls were pretty distinct and didn't just taste like a rehash of various combinations of salmon, rice, panko and sauces. They had a special the day we went of a sushi roll with lobster, but the lobster just looked like pink slime. Wouldn't recommend, but everything else was great! read more

Service wise though, they might be just slightly better but still pull the typical things such as only bringing you part of your order, not coming over super often, or heavily insinuating that it's time to leave at the end of about 1.5 hours. Alas, such is the nature of AYCE sushi. Random but important: I am a big fan of the ice cream here-both the green tea and red bean are very refreshing. Out of all the all you can eat sushi places, this one has continued to be my top choice. The assortment that they have is delicious. I have yet to find a place like this that even compares to Sushi Palace. The sashimi is always fresh and you can definitely tell. My favorite specialty roll would have to be the volcano roll, so make sure you order that!! They are also pretty good at bringing out what you order (see my other reviews for bad experiences at other establishments) This time around I went with 6 other people. We got a little sushi-happy and ordered wayyyy too many rolls for our own good. We managed to eat about 85% of the rolls we ordered but luckily they did not charge us for the amount leftover. Will be back for my next AYCES binge! pro tip: if you are going with a lot of people, try to carpool. the parking lot is very very tiny! read more

I still Love this place. They have the best vegetable tempura. My fave is sweet potato, but the broccoli and eggplant are pretty tasty as well. This little gem has introduced me to the fine enjoyments of raw fish and rolls years ago. As per my usual, I ordered the shrimp tempura and eel rolls. You can never go wrong with a California roll. There are sheets of paper with the menu on the table and you just write in how many orders of what you would like. Their menu is very clear in detail of exactly how much you are going to get in each serving. Which is so ideal because they are very clear they do NOT want any patron to waste food. They are not pricey. And yet so delicious. I've come here mostly while in college and now over 10 years later. They are still just as good as before. read more

We are frequently visited this place and drive about an hour to get here. Last night sushi is not so fresh and size is much small for sashimi, the roles were falling apart, services were terrible. We waited for 30 minutes after the girl took our order and the other table with a young boy "I am hungry" they came after us and waited much longer. We went last night and were disappointed to find that they use cheap disposable plastic for all food and beverages: seaweed salad in styrofoam! hot sake in a plastic cup! Awful. It makes the whole place feel like cheap fast food, and it's terrible for the environment. We used to love the place, but we won't return until we hear they've gone back to reusable dishes and cups. The worst experience ever.The waitress(oldest among them with long hair in a ponytail) is rude and very disrespectful.She refused to let us order because she said we need to finish what we ordered first.But our kids are with us and we dont feed them raw,the sushi is for us grown ups and we are working on it so we are trying to order some more of the cooked meals from the kitchen.We decided to just go home and buy take out.It is a buffet and we are responsible if we have leftovers.We will not order if we cannot finish it.We went home hungry and angry at the same time.I hope the owner reads this and do something about his rude waitstaff.A lot of bad reviews is all about their poor service.We love coming here so we are really sad they treated us badly. read more

Come prepared to eat! This place is awesome and I'll admit that I was surprised at how good the food was. It's always a little scary eating mass produced sushi from a buffet, grocery store, etc., but they do it really well and produce the same quality food that a regular Japanese restaurant does. Hamden is a bit of a hike for me but I'm glad I was able to make the trip to eat here. You order as a table and fill out a slip of paper provided to you indicating what and how much of it you want (you can order multiple times). It's great because you get to choose from a variety of appetizers, tempura, sushi & sashimi, rolls, and dessert. All of that is covered by a mere $20 so long as you finish everything you order (Drinks are extra $). I easily spend that much money when I go out for sushi, so for the quality and amount that you get, it's a steal. Everything came out pretty quickly too which was nice. Definitely a good place for small groups to go, that way you can share and try more food! read more

The kitchen foods like fried dumplings and soups come out extremely fast and food comes out consistent, making it feel like a multi-course dinner until your sushi comes out at the end. Skeptical. That's what i felt when my co-workers told me to try Sushi Palace. I'm usually wary of all-you-can-eat places and one that is for sushi? I have to take back my skepticism. I enjoyed my first trip there and have been back several times. The fish has been good and tasty. The miso soup and udon noodles are great for cooler weather. For the service side, it's a bit off at times. I do prefer the Hamden location though. The other location is bigger and roomier. Parking, agreed is horrid at the hamdon location. read more

I come to sushi palace all the time! My only issue is that the prices have gone up, but for the amount of food you get with the all you can eat I think it's still reasonable. The sushi is always delicious. I've been to the North Haven location and was very underwhelmed, so I'll be sticking to Hamden going forward. I've been coming for years. As far as an all you can eat sushi place goes, this is for sure a five based on the price and the quality alone, but as a restaurant in its own right that's where I have to drop to a four. The price for the all you can eat is basically $20, according to the website I think they say it ranges from $18-$21.95 depending on the day, and I'm not sure exactly what ours was. The drinks are not included in that all you can eat price but everything else is from both the kitchen menu and the sushi bar menu. As for the variety of the menus I found both to be pretty expansive, though not the hugest menu for the rolls (being that is my favorite things to eat at a sushi place. I've seen places with much larger selection in rolls. This place had maybe 15-20 to choose from? The kitchen menu items were really, really good. We had gyoza, spring rolls, sweet potato tempura, and some chicken skewers between us. I thought the tempura was crisp/clean tasting (not dirty oil flavor) and the spring rolls were surprisingly good (as their not usually my favorite item). As for the sushi, my partner is the eater of actual raw fish sushi. He thought, "it was really good. Made with good quality ingredients. Served quickly and at the right temperature." As for the rolls, I found them all to be good. Many had avocado on top or inside which was really fresh and ample while the tempura roll I had really turned out to be my favorite. Other than the price and the food itself, the atmosphere wasn't the best. The exterior is a bit questionable looking and it's not the best spot in town, which was off putting going for the first time. Many people cited issues with parking as their lot is really small and tight, but we personally didn't have that issue as it was pretty late on a Tuesday night. Once inside, the place is quite small with uncomfortable seats and it got really loud even only half full. Once the food arrived, these things didn't bother me, but they were just small annoyances that sorta marred an otherwise really flawless experience. As for all you can eat sushi, it's a great bet. If you need to fuel up, you can eat a lot for $20 with a lot of variety and good flavors. We'll be back for sure. read more

The sushi here is good but the service is horrible! First of all why do the servers just stand over you and stare, as if they have nothing better to do. Secondly, I tried to get an explanation as to what the items I ordered included for allergy reasons and they couldn't explain to me because of their lack of English. Thirdly, the servers should always ask if you would like anything else before taking the plates and slamming the check on the table, assuming is very rude. Great all-you-can-eat sushi place! Although the sushi is not the highest quality, there are lots of fun special rolls to choose from, my favorite of which is the Sakura Roll. I would also recommend the shumai and spicy kani salad. The price is reasonable for all-you-can-eat. Despite what a certain women with a shaky grasp of Japanese food etiquette might say about the tempura, it was excellent and appropriately portioned. You definitely wouldn't need a knife and a fork, and could definitely eat it with chopsticks without harassing the staff. My group thoroughly enjoyed the sushi and tempura, and despite the horrible conduct of the aforementioned woman and continued eye raising comments we had a lovely time. I went with a bunch of friends and we tried many of the rolls! The soft shell crab and vegetable tempura stood out to me. The vegetable gyoza is a little greasy, but yummy. Their green tea ice cream has a very true, authentic matcha flavor and isn't very sweet, so be prepared for that! Service is not good per se, but isn't anything to complain about. They did get a couple of rolls wrong/missing, but we did order a lot and service, both making food and correcting orders, was very fast. The atmosphere was neither good nor bad as well. Decoration was nice enough, but I personally would have liked if it was a bit warmer and background music was played. Try not to waste the fish! Order sparingly at first. You can always get more if you're still hungry. The price was so good. I appreciated being able to eat my fill of sushi without having to worry about how many rolls I could order and how much each roll would cost and what if I didn't like it, etc. read more
