Customer service and quality of food has gone down hill since opening. This last experience was the final straw. My wife and I were seated at table for 4 and it was semi crowded. No sooner had we received our drinks, the table was split, a few inches, and we were joined by another couple. I do not mind meeting new people but I do not enjoy trying to eat dinner with a stranger staring at my food or me from inches away. Oh, almost forgot, they were seated after us and served before us. We only ordered once and they left off 2 separate rolls leaving us with the majority of the rolls being eel, but it was enough food. I have another review from my experience at the Sushi Palace in Hamden, but I just wanted to share what I thought on this location. One - Sushi Palace is my favorite. Milford or Hamden though. I have come to this location I believe twice since it has opened. I will only go here if I am in the area and am DYING to have sushi or the other two places closed (let's hope they don't). This location is very SLOW when it comes to making the food. You could go in when there are 4 other people and you will still wait 15-20 minutes for one order it seems like. Also, they are not as neat as the other 2. Their rolls fall apart, sometimes the rice is still super warm which causes headache when you try to eat them, you get the point. But the one true reason I will never come here is because of the way I was treated when I left. I had paid with my credit card, but had cash for a tip. I had my boyfriend and best friend with me and I just charged it all on mine. They charge my card and then give me the receipt to sign. I signed it and put a "0" through the tip part because, like I said, I had cash in my hand. It was under my card so they obviously couldn't see it. This waitress had the audacity to look at the receipt and look at me and push it back and go "you didn't leave a tip". And wouldn't let me push the receipt back to her. We all just looked at her with our mouths dropped. I finally told her that I had cash for a tip and that I would be leaving one so don't worry! Very rude. I ALWAYS tip no matter where I am or what I bought, but I just can't believe she would blatantly ask for a tip like that. I've seen people order hundreds of dollars worth of stuff at other restaurants and not leave tips, not everybody does! Definitely won't be returning to this location. read more

I have been to all three local sushi palace locations- for a long time the Orange location was closest to me, so that was my go-to. I was recently in the area of the North Haven sushi palace and I must say that it's just as good, if not BETTER than the Orange location. The restaurant is much smaller, but it is exactly the same menu. Of the two times I have been here I always seem to get a table right away. The food is always fresh and the service is usually pretty quick. The only thing that I don't like is that they don't have fountain soft drinks. I wish instead of bringing me a can of coke that I could pay one price and have refills. The decor is nice and casual. They have the all you can eat sushi at this location as well, which in my opinion is well worth the money since you have access to many other kitchen dishes aside from sushi. I went here on a recommendation from my sister and was disappointed. I will say that all you can eat sushi is very appealing. It is not a sushi "salad bar"; they supposedly make each roll to order (see my thoughts on this in the last paragraph). SERVICE - I experienced slow returns from the waitress. I could be wrong, but it appeared that they didn't want to circle around too much. It is all you can eat after all and circling around too often might make them serve more food. If they don't circle around as quickly, there's a strong likelihood that there will be less food ordered. SLOPPY - The rolls I received were the sloppiest I've ever experienced, and I've been a sushi lover for nearly 20 years. More than half of my bites fell apart due to the fact that the seaweed was not secured properly. TASTE - I frankly don't remember the names of the rolls I ordered (it was a few weeks ago). I will say that my first round of rolls tasted pretty good. My wife and I shared a good variety and, aside from the rolls falling apart, the taste was good. MADE TO ORDER? - Maybe we were just unlucky with our second round choices. We ordered 4 more rolls which, again, were messy and falling apart. The biggest complaint I had was that the 4 rolls were literally the exact same roll with just different sauces on them. Basically, 4 California rolls; one with sweet sauce, one with spicy sauce, one savory, etc...you get the idea. Now, again, this was a few weeks ago and I didn't memorize the menu. However, I know I would not have ordered the same roll 4 times intentionally; I like variety. The only conclusion I have was that the kitchen mass produces certain rolls and makes them sound different by describing the sauces. This was my impression, I don't know this for fact. PRICE - All you can eat for $20/person. I'm not a HUGE eater so I didn't see much of a savings. It was priced about the same for my consumption habits as if I went to any other sushi restaurant and just ordered off the menu. CONCLUSION - There are lots of sushi places in the area I would go to first before heading back. read more

The telling sign to leave should of been when the waitress threw the menus on the table and walked away. There was never any thank you or your welcome, and when the food came out, she set it on the table and walked away. That's it. Nothing else. We asked to substitute the white rice for fried rice, and the up charge was $10, for a $13 meal...... the all you can eat sushi was okay, good, but not worth the horrible service. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! We didn't even eat! We were there for a TOTAL of 2 MINUTES!!! We walked up to the hostess asking for a table of 5, 2 adults and 3 children. She just looked at us and kept stumbling over her words. She proceeded to act as if we were bothering her. I asked if we were supposed to seat ourselves. She rolled her eyes, opened the door to the kitchen and yelled something. She came back to us and told us to have a seat at the table behind us. I turned around and there were 3 CHAIRS! I would like to add that there was a booth that was open but she continued to insist that we sit at the TABLE WITH 3 CHAIRS. I come to sushi palace all the time, today I went with my friend and we had awful service. the sushi chef had a lollipop stick hanging out of his mouth while making the sushi, and the waitress was texting instead of serving us our drinks and food. she even brought our food over to us with her phone still in her hand, in my opinion that's rude and awful service especially when you do it in the customers point of view. as a server myself i would never ever neglect a customer by choosing to be on my phone, nor would my boss allow it. the food here is good, service is awful. read more

With a voracious family of four sushi eaters (two adults and two teenagers), frankly, I can't go to full price sushi anymore for fear of bankruptcy. Having been to some of the country's best sushi palaces (NY, L.A., San Fran)... I think this place is great. Is it world class? No (which is why I didn't give it 5 stars), but its better than most and the all you can eat deal is second to none. All you can eat appetizers, tempura, sushi, and dessert. For us, none of it was "buffet", it was made fresh to order (possibly because it was sunday night). As for the lunch v. dinner prices, for all you can eat, what did Amy expect? I absolutely love this place. I usually go on a Wednesday night to get the $18.95 price and feel it is really worth it. First of all they have the best shrimp tempura I have ever tasted, hands down. Everything is always so fresh there, coming out of the kitchen made to order. Both hot and cold dishes are excellent. I love all their sushi and sashimi, especially the volcano rolls. The last time I was there we ordered gyozas, which arrived cold because I think the waitress forgot about them. HOWEVER, I have noticed a slight change with the attitude of the staff members over time, a lot of them look like they need a very long vacation. I tried the north haven location for the first time this week because I love the Hamden location. I went for lunch with friends and when we arrived the waitress told us it was $13.95 per person for all-you-can-eat sushi because there were no prices listed on the menu. We then decided to enjoy this option and ordered 5-6 rolls. When they gave us the bill it was double what we were expecting and asked them if there was a mistake. They then informed us that the price is $20.95 per person for all you can eat. We then stated that all three of us heard our waitress tell us that it was 13.95 per person and had repeated it back to her after she had initially told us. Our waitress refused to listen to us and would not get the manager when we asked to speak to them. This "customer service" was appalling and downright illegal. The prices were not posted anywhere and we had no knowledge of the amount besides what we were told when we arrived. I will never go back to this location again and do not recommend it to anyone. read more

The kitchen lost one of our orders and the first round of sushi came after most of the people who were seated after us. This place has all you can eat sushi for $22! The sushi is pretty good too. They give you a variety of choices for each group on there all you can eat menu. They have a list of some appetizers which includes edamame, soups, and spring rolls. You can also order various types of sushi and sashimi, including white tuna, yellowtail, tuna, salmon. There are the regular plain rolls/hand rolls as well as a list of their special rolls to choose from. You can even choose an ice cream for dessert. Nothing beats all you can eat sushi! Unlike many all you can eat places, Sushi Palace serves fresh delicious fish and rolls. We always get a ridiculous amount of sushi there (and sashimi), and always want to come back for more! The only downside is the service. They don't really speak English i think. We've been coming here just about weekly since they first opened. Not great then and horrible now. While the food itself is pretty decent for the price,the people that work there suck!! Never a smile, very rude and could care less about either. Plus,they're always loud!! Many other Yelpers feel the same way. Owners Helen and Si really need to get their act together,read some of their unhappy customers' reviews and make serious changes to their staff. Oh,and for the 2nd time,they ran out of tuna!! This review is not a review for the other branches just the Sushi Palace in North Haven. We went in on a Monday night and it was not packed there were maybe 4 other couples dinning. My husband and I sat for 15 minutes without being acknowledged before we had to speak up and tell the server that we had not received a menu yet. After we handed them the menu we waited another 20 minutes for our food. We didn't get a single appetizer this entire time our sushi was the first item to reach the table. Meanwhile every other table in the restaurant had been given many appetizers and one table that got there after us was given a second menu! I told the server that we had not received any of our appetizers and she didn't even acknowledge that I was speaking to her and walked away. She came back with water and we said it again and she told us she lost it so we had to redo it. After we ate all our sushi we got 2 out of the 4 appetizers we ordered. And she asked if we wanted ice cream. We hadn't even gotten all of our food yet! The worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life and not a single person acknowledged their rude behavior or apologized. I can't imagine being on a busy night. Needless to say there wasn't a tip given and I would rather drive 20 minutes out of the way to Hamden then ever deal with these rude people again.
