I have heard great things about this place due to Yelp having an event here a few months ago and decided to check it out! There are a bunch of items on the menu and to simplify things, we got the izakaya feast (minimum 2 people in your party can order this). It's like $70 something. It came with some appetizers, nigiri, two rolls, and dessert. Our server was friendly and was able to recommend some drinks to us. I got some type of sake (forgot the name) that is very aromatic. The fluke kumquat was delicious! I was sad there wasn't more. I feel like the chefs forgot about us halfway through the meal as we waited 20 minutes between our last dish and the rolls. Our server even apologized for the long wait. Nothing spectacular about the tastes. I will say the sashimi tastes really fresh and they're enjoyable but nothing really enhances them, which is disappointing for a $50-100 restaurant (if you wanna be full). The cotton candy dessert was pretty cool! I like how it reveals the cheesecake and ice cream. The izakaya feast was expensive for the quality of dishes we got. Had to come and try this new sushi place that I have heard all the rave about! First of all, it is so conveniently located near ACL Live at Moody Theatre, we walked right over for our show! Also conveniently located in the heart of downtown, so you could pivot to anywhere! The service was great, our waitress was helpful and attentive. The Lychee martini was great! I also tried the green tea/matcha cocktail, it was unique and good, but a little tart, and I switched back to the Lychee. We had a great signature roll and then also did a spicy tuna crispy rice. Ok I've never had to leave a review like this before when the service was so bad that I couldn't even enjoy the food because the waiter made me so incredibly uncomfortable. 3 stars based on the waiter ruining the experience. The appetizers came right away along with the two rolls that my BF ordered. I ordered the sushi deluxe plate and wound up waiting a whole hour for it. The waiter could have come over and apologized telling me that my meal was taking longer but he didn't. Instead, I kept trying to flag him down and he'd look at me and look away, avoiding me at all costs. He actually put his hand up at me to say "not now!" as he went to the table right next to us and turned his back to me ignoring me. I overheard him telling them that some of their sushi was taking more time and he'd not charge them for it. I thought he'd then turn around and say the same to me but instead he ran off ignoring me and never even turned around when he saw I was asking for him! He actually gave me dirty looks and I started to feel so uncomfortable that my face got super red and I couldn't even eat. When my food finally arrived 45 minutes later (over an hour after ordering.) I asked him why there was a spicy tuna roll there as I told him I couldn't eat spicy food. He said "oh it's not that spicy I'm sure you can eat it" really nasty. I said I can't eat it and he huffed and said well I will get you another roll for free ok?! As if he was doing me a favor but really annoyed and mad about it. Now it's already 10pm (we arrived at 8:30) and I'm trying to eat but can't really enjoy it because it's been such an uncomfortable experience waiting so long for my food and being treated so nasty by this waiter. I was SHOCKED he didn't even offer to remove anything from our tab when he gave that to the table next to us and I waited even longer. I have never experienced such a rude waiter in my life or having to wait so long for my meal without a single apology. Yea the food was tasty and presentation lovely as you can see from photos but this experience made it difficult for me to even enjoy the food. Besides the waiter, just waiting that long for my meal to when it was already closing time and my BF was done, I just couldn't enjoy it as I felt so rushed after waiting so long. The Fluke Kumquat, Toro Carpaccio, and Chilean Seabass skewer are highly recommended. Delicate white fluke presented sashimi-style with a touch of yuzu for a playful take on citrus/savory. Fresh, original, just right - especially on their lengthy Happy Hour menu. Toro also impressed with an elegant plating of sashimi-cuts - rich and more filling than their Western counterparts. Chilean Seabass was slightly under-seasoned (nothing some soy can't fix) but cooked exquisitely with a nice char. Nigiri was fresh enough, but pieces are thinner than spots of a similar caliber, and they specialize in more contemporary dishes. I recently came here for a Yelp Elite event and just had to come back to check out their HH. It was a Monday. I made a reservation for 2 on Open Table and just FYI it won't allow you to book at 4 PM if that's what you want. HH is 4 PM to 6 PM. Only as early as 5 PM, but if you call into the restaurant you can most likely request for them to move it up. I walked in at 4 PM and was literally the only one there. I learned you can only have happy hour in the lounge area or bar. We sat in the lounge. I really liked the cozy half booth space. Wasn't packed at all. We finished up at 6 PM and maybe 3 more tables came in. Service was quick. We ordered: Salmon Roll - Fresh and rolls are on the smaller side Hanabi Spicy Tuna - Amazing flavor, but not spicy Brussels Sprout Chips - One of my favs. Super crispy and packed with truffle flavor Japanese Fried Chicken - Served hot and crispy. Light batter and pairs well with sauce and lemon. Decent portion. Hot Sake Carafe - For $7 this is an amazing deal. I literally felt like it was never ending. Starting with the drinks, I got the Shoman glory which was pretty tasty, though probably could've been a little stronger. Y'all, we had an amazing night at Sushi Roku! Everything I'm about to mention was shared between four people so in most cases we each got one serving of the dish. Highly recommend dining this way so you can try everything and split the bill! Parking was like $4 because after 5 or 6pm it's free on weekdays. Check the signs because I forgot actual timing from the night. Also, if you are apprehensive about sushi because of raw fish or fishy taste - I highly recommend the dishes below that come with sauce drizzle because it makes all the difference. Soy sauce isn't the same for this elevated menu. Enjoy! We started with some drinkitos - the hibiscus, the shoman glory, and ended with the smokin yuzu!! Highly recommend the first and last drink! To start, we had the toro carpaccio, fluke kumquat and Brussels sprout chips! The full list is in the photos but these three were my faves. It's a good thing that they gave us a little to pick from because I could have easily eaten more of each of them. They also help to get your mouth ready for the cabaret of flavors. The toro carpaccio includes oscietra cavier, kizami wasabi and truffle soy. All I can say is - Chef's kiss!! Toro is the fatty part of the tuna or fish and elevated with style which is why it's so popular. The fluke kumquat was surprisingly tasty. It's a lazer thin explosion of sweetness. I forgot it was fish. There is absolutely no detection of fish taste and it was great to have in between other dishes. The flavors together are perfect imo. The Brussels sprout chips were super simple and delicate. The truffle oil and salt quickly disintegrates in your mouth leaving a little crispy savory taste behind. Next we had robata - Chilean seabass (lean fish) and American wagyu beef. It's no wonder it was featured in Jurassic Park because the seabass was cooked to perfection with buttery flaky vibes and the smallest, yet impactful, drizzle of yakitori sauce. The wagyu beef (marble pieces) was simple yet delicate. It also had a buttery flavorful effect. I recommend sharing both to get the full effect of the flavor palette. Then we had sushi and rolls - my favorites were the Nigiri with four cuts of fish (tai, yellow tail, salmon and tuna). No sauce. Just the rice and fish. I thought I wouldn't like it without other flavors thrown in but was thrilled to just enjoy the fish with the tiniest little flavor buddy on top. It wasn't fishy and cut perfectly. My next favorite was the white lotus roll. They include rock shrimp, avocado & asparagus topped with albacore & crispy onions & truffle soy. The flavors and crispness went together beautifully. From the excited patrons who had already begun their tasting experience to those waiting for their table to the staff who moved with purpose. The decor was great, the seating was well placed and comfortable and it was surprisingly not too crowded. We were seated and then we waited. This started a very unpleasant service issue for us. Once the waiter arrived, we were given the canned "thank you for your patience" and asked if we wanted water. We told them that we were ready to order in full (it had been over 20 minutes at that point). Twice the waiter came back after the order to clarify what we ordered. The food was AMAZING. Very well presented and delicious. We tried many different items and were happy with everything. Kudos to the chef(s). Unfortunately, we had to ask for our last sushi roll - clearly the waiter forgot to place the order. We were comped a cup of coffee at the end and were then told by the waiter that they had a personal emergency which caused our initial delay. Next they stood over me as I paid - didn't give me a chance to look at the bill, took my credit card and swiped it. Terrible service - all during SXSW too. Hopefully the management will work to improve the service provided by this particular waiter. read more

Came here for the first time for a private event - from the moment I walked in, you can feel the elevated dining ambiance. The service here is great; they certainly know how to cater to their patrons. They offer some creative cocktails that are a good balance of bold, smooth, and pretty. But let's talk about the food! We had a 10-course meal and each plate they served were delightful - we got a good mixture of familiar and exotic dishes, as well as comforting and complex flavors. I would very much come here again. I mean it when I say that this is the BEST sushi I have had in Austin. I've tried them all: Uchi, Uchiko, Soto, Neighborhood Sushi, Lucky Robot, Junai, etc., and after one meal at Sushi Roku it has claimed top spot. Each bite of the dishes we ordered felt like a delicacy. In particular, the Spicy Tuna Hanabi and the Tokubetsu roll really blew me away. The cocktails were also fantastic: the Tea & Harmony made with green tea infused vodka and lemongrass was delicious and refreshing, as was the Empress's Kiss, which felt like a fun, yuzu-forward twist on a French 75. The service was a little slow, but it was a packed Saturday night. And honestly, the food was so delicious that I forgave them for any subpar service. The aesthetic of the restaurant is really lovely, kind of an elevated zen garden atmosphere with pretty bonsai decor and woven paneling. RIP to RA Sushi across the street- I feel like Sushi Roku is going to become the hot spot for sushi on 4th street now! read more
