    Hamachi Serrano Baked Crab Handroll
    Priscilla F.

Dining at Sushi Roku was an absolute pleasure. The interior vibe is dimly lit and cozy. The three course menu for Austin Restaurant Week had so many good options it was hard to pick. I had the sake, hamachi serrano and the sushi plate with the baked crab hand roll. The food arrived quickly. Everything was of incredibly fresh quality. Yuzu serrano yellowtail is a fantastic flavor combination. I also ordered the spicy tuna hamachi. It has a sweet and spicy taste with a crispy rice texture. Loved being able to support the Central Texas Food Bank while having a delicious meal. Definitely going to come back when I want fresh sushi!

Have you ever had a friend who finishes your sentences or allows you to be completely yourself, i.e. no masks, no pretense? Today, I had lunch with one of these delightful friends. Despite our differences - she's an atheist from a wealthy background, I'm a Christian from humble beginnings - we connect over our mutual concern for people, especially those marginalized, and our shared commitment to caring for the planet and improving the world around us. When we get together, there will always be laughter...lots of laughter. We decided to get together for lunch at Sushi Roku, which is celebrating their 2nd anniversary of being in business. The menu has contemporary offerings from sushi and sashimi to skewers and wagyu beef. My friend and I ordered and shared edamame, California sushi roll, avocado sushi roll, popcorn shrimp tempura and rice. All the items were delicious. This was my friend's first time at Sushi Roku, whereas it was my second. The food was much better the second time around. In addition, the time from our order being placed to food delivery was extremely fast. Clare, our server, seemed a bit distracted. While she was taking our order she was looking towards the kitchen or at other tables. She could have been more attentive especially since there were not that many folks in the restaurant at the time. We enjoyed the sultry music playing in the background and the vibe of the restaurant. Sushi Roku is where modern meets oriental. Importantly, prices tend to be on the high-end however, in homage their anniversary they had special pricing. Overall, good experience...

Delicious food. The Ichi Go cocktail was one of the best drinks I've ever had. Complex flavors, I perfectly sweetened for me. Who would've thought Tequila, matcha, and pandan (3 things I like) could go together swimmingly. The Tuna Jalapeño roll was also so yummy. The only thing I would say to maybe skip is just get the tuna sashimi $20 instead of the toro sashimi for the $48 MP. The pieces of the toro were so thick and cold that it almost didn't have the buttery delicacy experience I previously have had ordering toro. We went on a day when they had their anniversary celebration so everything was 50% off and the bill was still steep so I'd only go back for special occasions probably due to cost. I saw they also have a happy hour so something to look into. But I will be back for more for sure! Service was incredible especially given how busy the restaurant was for the anniversary special. Ambiance was quite nice as well and they asked if we would like to be seated at sushi bar or table.

Made us sit outside for happy hour which is fine, but they barely came outside. We basically waited an hour for our rolls and comped some of them which was good. My friend had to go in and check on our rolls. Said they put it in but never checked up on us?? The hand rolls were not fresh and the salmon was not good quality. For a sushi restaurant with higher prices I would expect more (as someone who has been to many). I have a slight feeling they were being ageist because we are college students. This was so disappointing because we were so excited to try it. The place itself has a nice vibe and I was fine with sitting outside on the patio since it was cute. Try if you want to!

I love Sushi Roku!!! Dropped by for happy hour with three friends after a half marathon walk club :) We were seated promptly. I ordered the spicy tuna roll ($8) hamachi Serrano ($12) and Brussel sprout chips ($6) and a a lychee martini ($8) for myself, everything was delicious! The star was the Hamachi. It balanced the perfect amount of acidity, sweetness and spice! Service was fast and polite. I will definitely return again for HH!

The Wagyu crispy rice was great! Good flavor and fun to eat. The lamb chop and Wagyu skewers were good. Maybe not the best Wagyu and lamb cuts I've ever had but still tasty. The brussel sprout chips were also fun! I loved the texture though it was a little bit salty. Husband notably enjoyed the sea bream nigiri and also the fun spring roll-esque roll. I like that they're trying to be a little creative with some of their menu items!

The sushi is outstanding! A very wide range of options from nigiri, rolls, hanabi, and sashimi to a plethora of standalone entrees. The appetizers are also unique with many options both seafood and otherwise. Our favorites were the Katana and White Lotus rolls. The O-Toro nigiri is amazing. We also loved the Wagyu Hanabi. Service was excellent!

I've been to Sushi Roku a couple of times, and I'll be honest, it's not my favorite sushi restaurant in town. BUT there are two things that bring me back here. First they have a great happy hour, and when the weather is nice you can sit on the patio. Second, they're on inKind, and you can buy discount gift cards at Costco to save a lot. My friends and I have done happy hour a couple of times, like I said, and everything is pretty good and affordable. Check my pics for an idea of what you can get. What we do talk about all the time is that they had their one year anniversary and had the entire menu half off. The place was PACKED! We had loaded up on inKind gift cards and a bunch of us had promo codes, too. Long story short, we had an $800 dinner for the 4 of us that we probably paid like $50 each out of pocket before tip. Amazing. Hope they do it for their second anniversary as well!

Sushi Roku is always a solid choice. I stopped by for a belated birthday dinner, and the food was great as usual. The tuna jalapeño and spicy tuna are amazing and a couple of my favorite things to order. They also have a good happy hour, which makes it an easy spot to come back to. Service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere felt lively but still comfortable. Definitely a place I would return to.

This chain is primarily in California with a location in Vegas and of course this one in downtown Austin. I had never been before and a friend invited me to join them for dinner during the restaurant's anniversary celebration. And what a celebration it was! Every single item on the menu was 50% off! My friend got the Chef Plate (Marketprice sushi) for only $32.50. Incredible! I decided to go with sides and apps. I had the Wagyu beef skewer, shishito peppers, Wagyu beef Goyza, chicken fried rice, and a mocktail. My friend also had the Goyza. Everything was beyond delicious. It goes without saying how amazing Wagyu beef is. Tender, juicy and well-marinated skewer. I love that the shishito peppers already had the stems removed. Makes for much easier eating. They were fresh and crisp with just the right kick at the end. They come tossed in an oyster sauce which I opted to have served on the side. The Goyza was impeccable. The chicken fried rice was primo. Everything was really high-quality not just in presentation but most importantly in flavor & taste. The mocktail I had was the Zen Garden (cucumber, mint, pineapple, and sparkling cucumber) was so refreshing and paired nicely with my food selection. The ambiance is moody and elevated with a calming and relaxing vibe. Who says high-end can't be relaxing? Excellent service from the host stand to our server and the manager who came round after our meal to ensure we were satisfied. All of this excellent service in the midst of an extremely busy night (again, 50% off). I am looking forward to my next visit. It's close enough to home that it makes for a nice walk after filling up on all the goodies they serve.

First of Mckinzie our waitress was so adorable, fun and just attentive. A sommelier of the restaurants food. The food was on fire. We had the amberjack and sea bream Nigiri was so delicious. The place had a great vibe. Definitely would visit again when I visit again. I have been to the one in Santa Monica but this place in Austin had a great vibe an I'm sure it had to do with our waitress

I had lunch at Sushi Roku Austin for the first time on Friday after walking for miles during SXSW - I was impressed. I ordered the Katana, which includes spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and yellowtail sushi. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. My friend had the Grilled Chicken breast and said it was outstanding. The portion were surprisingly generous. I'm looking forward to returning to try their popular Happy Hour after 4:00 p.m. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great sushi in Austin.

    Yellowtail Hanabi
    Erica D.

Made it here for happy hour during the week which is only available at the bar or on the patio and from 4-6pm daily. They have great deals both food and drink wise on the HH menu so definitely plan a visit if you can make it at this time. Our favorites were definitely the skewers, yellowtail crispy rice, crudo and the rolls. The chicken wings were just OK. I'll definitely be back - service was great. Ambiance is nice. And most importantly the food is fresh and tasty!

    What is the dress code?

For happy hour can be pretty casual but indoors gives a vibe of dressing up a little cute like after 5 wear.

Is this place accessible for someone with a walker?

I’d say so. It’s on the ground floor and there’s a variety of seating options including booths and tables. Probably smart to call ahead if you think it will be a bigger issue than that. Enjoy

We ordered their tuna poke appetizer, trio roll, austin FC roll, and the matcha maker drink. Matcha Maker was a whiskey drink, tasted pretty fruity and was actually delicious. The whiskey taste comes later. The tuna poke was good, it came with 5-6 chunks of raw tuna with some avocados, which sat on top of some seaweed salad, and had 5 pieces of tortilla chips to pair with. The trio roll and austin fc roll were both delicious. The trio roll had no flavor, as it had 3 different sashimis, but was perfect with soy sauce and wasabi. The austin fc roll came with eel sauce and their house sauce, it was good on it's own. We were starving by the time the food came, since it did take a while as it was crowded.....like every seat in the house was taken! Dinner is izakaya style which is basically tapas or smaller/shareable plates vs entree style dishes. Lunch menu has more options, including bento boxes which we'll have to try next time! Our server was attentive and nice. Overall, definitely recommend. It is more on the pricier side, but it is worth it. Only thing I would do different is bringing a jacket. Thankfully, most a very good choices! The fries are great. It's weird to start with that but they really are. Same goes for pretty much any sushi. You'll be able to taste the freshness of the fish. However, avoid the curry and katsu. My katsu can only be described as overdone. The breading tasted nearly burnt dry and banding in the meat (see my photo) shows how it was separating from being cooked too long. The curry is as disappointing as their sister restaurant. It's weak enough that I'd venture I could produce a better curry in bulk. Their menu also changes between lunch and dinner so it's possible other non sushi options are better. So do come here and enjoy the sushi, but don't venture into the other menu items. They'd really shine by focusing on a core menu with less accompanying dishes.

I must have driven by this restaurant whenever I was on Parmer for like 15 years ... and never got…read morearound to going in. When I finally did, I discovered one of the best Japanese restaurants in Austin. Okay ... if you are going to pay $600 for an omikase then the omikase place is better. The tasting menu at Uchi is better. But if you just want Japanese without paying a gold brick and taking out a second mortgage on your house, Miyo Yakitori and Sushi is pretty damm fine. * * * a) Japanese curry is a utility dish in most Japanese restaurants ... and when you get down to it, in most Japanese homes. It is often what you serve on "cheap" night. Airport hotels offer it as the "free dinner" for tired travellers. The curry sauce itself here is standard issue. But they serve it with a Pork Katsu the size of Williamson county. And it is a very good Pork Katsu. That Katsu was good from Liberty Hill to Thrall and from Hester's Crossing to Jarrell. b) My carnivorous partner's Fireball Udon with Shellfish blew him away. Temperature wise and aesthetic pleasure wise. He raved about how good his udon was all the way home. c) Service was instantaneous. I think there was some sort of event horizon distortion of the space time continuum that allowed them to prepare the food and then go back in time and deliver it within a minute of it being ordered. Both of us were impressed. d) The service staff was as nice as any human beings could possibly be. * * * Great food. Great service. The folks who live in the apartment complex that Miyo is in are very lucky people indeed. Either the apartments are lovely and they get Miyo on top of that. Or the apartments are terrible, but they can still spend all their time in Miyo to compensate. Seems like a fair trade. **************** If you read the other reviews, There seems to be some controversy about this establishment. Miyo has fans and Miyo has haters. * * * Here is my read on the conflicting opinions: a) Earlier in the restaurant's history - Say about 2016, 17, or 18, The restaurant was not very good at all. I think at that time it had another name. b) There was a name change and quality went up. Sometimes when this happens there is an ownership change (or there is an owner who swaps out the management and cooking team to put in new blood.) However, things got fixed, they got fixed. c) Miyo's yakitori is apparently still not where it needs to be. I am not a huge Yakitori fan. If your broiled meat on a stick is not $80 an ounce Wagyu, Or amazing organ meats grilled in the Caucasus Barded with lamb fat and with farm fresh vegetables On another skewer for serious taste contrast ... If you are not at that high level, I don't want to pay for meat on a skewer. There are people who DO like Yakitori. They do NOT like the Miyo versions of that. * * * Yakitori is less than 20% of Miyo's menu. The rest is sushi or wonderful cooked dishes. Lay off the skewer food and you can do well here.
