Had dinner the other night here. The food was wonderful. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Sides were enough to share between my boyfriend and I. But when my boyfriend asked for salt and pepper the server brought them over. He told us we couldn't have them stay at the table and he had to do it himself. I've never heard of this. Between paying for our bottle of wine, appetizers, main meals and desserts, spending over $300 for the two of us, and we can't have salt and pepper to use at our leisure? Insane. It made us feel like children that weren't trusted and felt so weird that we had to flag down our server just to get an extra crack or two of pepper or salt. I remember coming to Reno as a kid every single year. Sometimes twice a year. Around 1995 they built Silver Legacy and built a connection between the El Dorado Hotel, Silver Legacy, and Circus Circus. During that time a fancy restaurant showed up. I'm not sure if it was always named Roxy's, but it's the same physical space. My parents never wanted to come here because it was "pricy", but now as an adult, I can afford places like this! We came in right at 5 so there was no wait, but the bar was hoping. The atmosphere was great, just wish we weren't seated so close to the kitchen, but it was perfectly fine once we had a few drinks. This place is known for their martini's as they have over a 100 different recipes. The blue eyes was one of the best I've had. Really strong and flavorful. Ordered the lobster appetizer which comes out escargot style dipped in an amazing sauce. Oh and the free bacon bread is awesome too. The wife ordered the butchers steak which was great, but I got the filet mignon and loved every bite. I tend to order larger steaks, but opted for a smaller one this time. Service was also great from start to finish. I associate Reno with the excellent buffet's, but it was nice to try something different. Gotta love Happy Hour!!! $7-$10 martinis and people watching... ok! The Long Island Martini is amazing!!!! Really haven't had one I didn't like. What a fantastic find in Reno! When visiting Reno you may find yourself in the downtown area and it is pretty apparent from walking around there are some ok diners and restaurants. But finding Roxy takes you to a eating experience with outstanding service and excellent food similar to that in a 5 Star Las Vegas resort restaurant. Food: when you first get seated, a lovely bread basket is presented to the table where we could get chunky sourdough or bacon cheddar bread. The appetizer selection is great. We ordered the home cooked chips and caramelized onion dip. It was fantastic and for $6 I would highly recommend everyone who likes savory flavor order this for the table. Entree: as non steak eaters, we ordered the halibut and the chicken. Both were excellent choices and had incredible presentation and prices ($26 to $38 range) with outstanding flavor. Wine list: known for a large variety of wines, we both had a flight which was priced $10 to $20 each. Fantastic value for 3 pours of 2 oz each. Service: couldn't be more delighted in this area. We were greeted by amazing smiling people. From the host, to our server to the assistants, everyone accommodates and makes your table feel like VIP. Overall. I would visit Roxy again. Next time would want to come for dinner as well as enjoy the evening piano music and entertainment. We have been here numerous times as they gave the best happy hour and the best bartender Georgann. She is a true rockstar behind the bar and super friendly. We had dinner begore a show. Keith was our server and he was fantastic. He chatted with our table and made great suggestions. We started with the calamari and cake cakes which were both home runs. I ordered had the king crab legs and my wife had the rib eye. Wholly crab legs, there was enough for two people. They were perfection. The rib eye was a perfect medium rare and seasoned well. It was like butter. The sides wee also great potatoes and onion rings. Seriously, we were ready to pop, but another table had rush out before their souffles were finished. So they were delivered free to our table. They were both heaven. On a side note, if you sit at the bar avoid Eric. He is not friendly and totally dismissed us on a most recent trip on Saturday during BBQ, Brews and Blues. My fiance and I came to Roxy the evening we got engaged to celebrate and we were so impressed. We each tried the chocolate martini and the James Bond martini. The James Bond was the winner but both were delicious. For starters we for the lobster escargot style and their famous mushroom ravioli. It is no wonder that this ravioli is so popular because everything about it is perfection. As we were eating it my fiance goes "We need to start coming here JUST for this ravioli". The breads they had were also super flavorful. For our main course my fiance got their special for the evening which was a 24 oz porterhouse steak. He says it is ranked up there with the best steaks he has ever had in his life. I got the short ribs and oh my... these short ribs. The flavor was out of this world. Every single bite was so dynamic, the first flavor you get is the tangy bourguignon and sourdough, and as you chew it develops into a rich and harmonious flavor profile with the beef. Then you take your next bit and you get to experience that all over again. The beef was so tender it fell off the bone and the bone was clean. "Roxy," think romantic. There are quite a few bars and restaurants on the Row Reno for people on a budget. There are a few places on The Row Reno that can easily offer you formal dining. Some places are quiet and focus on food. Other places are over the top boisterous, noisy, and cater to loud Disc jockey dance music. The Roxy can be quiet and even provide some seclusion, away from the ruckus. I've come here before the late night partying begins; socializing can be big here, especially when there is live music, excellent drinks, people spilling into The Roxy from Brew Brothers, or the many other over-crowded places. I recommend The Roxy for couples, business, simgles, or groups out to drink together. Smoke your cigar. If you don't want smoking, tell the hostess. Desserts here are very personal. As of my most recent visit, I choose my dessert first so I can select my meal and drinks to finish-off with exactly what I wanted. He ordered the filet mignon cooked rare as he likes it the portion was a nice size served with sautéed asparagus and a béarnaise sauce. Their servers are dedicated and the host (this last weekend) was sharp as a pin. He saw literally everything, including the doneness of my steak from across the room. (more on that later) However, the chef is either a hack who lied on his resume, or just too rich to give a shit. Maybe it's just a lure for drunk gamblers, or tours, or drunk gambling tourists. Either way, his recipies start and stop at "Throw too much of 1 thing at a protien, then go have a smoke". Bread? Delicous. The "Bread Boy". Nice enough. The fact they thought they needed someone to and out single slices from a basket? Creepy and weird. Escargo, tasted like butter and nothing. Lobster (escargot style) tasted like butter and nothing. Sure wish I had some salt and pepper, but they decided we don't need them. Fine. I had a $60 filet and THREE shrimp. Already robbery. This being my second time at the place, I hoped it wouldn't be underdone like the last time. It was. It was blue and not medium rare, just like last time. BLUE, as in, "Raw on the outside". (Also the knives wern't sharp enough to cut a FILET MIGNON) When I squeezed the grilled lemon over my shrip I noticed it was bone dry and ice cold, meaning someone grilled it ahead of time, let it dry out in the cold fridge, took it from the fridge and tossed it on the plate. WHY?! why would you do that? There is no world where that works. I sent my steak back a second time, and it came back well done and still uncuttable. That and a 2 inch square of potator caserole whose only ingredient was clearly butter and 3, now SEVERELY over cooked shrimp, meaning they just kept putting it in the oven. The host, bless his heart, notices and didn't charge us for that plate as everyone was done by the time I got my food. On my left, my dad had $50 worth of lamb and carrots, which is apparently 2 ounces of meat. It was mostly bones and came covered in sage, and tasted like sausage. I asked for dessert before anything else, because soufflet takes a while. Well, they forgot to make it. Then they rushed it out and it deflated with my first taste. It didn't matter, because it tasted like a mug of scrambled eggs. I wish I could say I went home and puked thanks to the terrible and horrendously priced meal. However, the truth is I went home and puked because I got food poisoning. It seems, somehow, they used just enough heat to get the steak to not be blue anymore, but not hot enough to kill any germs in the meat. That, or the cooks screwed with my plate and I don't know which is worse. I wouldn't pay $10 for what I got, and I wish I thought the people that own these places had any concept of shame. read more

I had my heart set on a great meal when we got to Reno, but I didn't want to make a reservation since we were traveling and couldn't guarantee what time. I also knew I was not interested in standing in line for an hour just to get a table. The solution? Order room service from Roxy! It came pretty quickly and no need to leave the comfort of my suite. It was a real splurge for us because we've never ordered room service before, but their prices were totally reasonable (we didn't even want to go downstairs to pick it up after the long day of driving). We pulled out all the stops with salads, an appetizer, entrees, and dessert. It all arrived in great condition and we were ready to eat. Everything was prepared perfectly and tasted so delicious. We came back to leftovers that were so satisfying too. We were both so happy with everything that we plan to return to Reno and will definitely order from here again. Fine dining experience here is amazing. From reservation, seating arrangements, ambience is wonderful, Menu selections, exceptional service and amazing flavorful entrees........this is worth our time & effort for the amount of money spent. We are coming back for sure. Today we tried the Seared Salmon, Rack of Lamb, Lobster with asparagus special, and Ribeye steak with onion rings, lobster bisque, and the tart pear with caramelized nut ice cream. This place is awesome! We had the shishoto peppers and wedge salad for an appetizer. Both delicious. Our sommelier was Jeff . His wine knowledge was off the hook. He suggested two different bottles, one to pair with our appetizers and one. to pair with our main dish. Both were amazing and the wine list is quite extensive. Jeff is a Sommelier and if you're one geek in wanting to know about the wines He presents him in a very non-snobbish manner and has a very gracious way of making you feel comfortable. Our waiter was Tayte, he was lots of fun, and the steaks and salmon, that we had with tender and flavorful. Our service was absolutely top-notch. We topped the night off with one of their signature soufflés. Talk about decadent and delicious. Did I mention the bread? They have several to choose from which come with your meal, all of which are delicious; however, the bacon cheese bread is to die for! In a nutshell I would strongly suggest you pass on this steak house and go elsewhere. People who give this place anything above 3 stars have no clue what a fine dinner house should be. The old Summit Restaurant at Harrah's Lake Tahoe was the standard to go by for a casino hotel. That place was incredible. Four of us just went two nights ago. The wait staff were all standing around talking loudly as they opened at 5pm. Low budget. Service was ok but not as it should be for these prices. Waiter had about 5 tables, one of which had 8 people, so too many for just one waiter. We are not at Denny's. The food: tuna appetizer was good. Lobster appetizer was recommended by the cocktail waitress who had no clue because it was 100% horrible. Lobster smelled like it had been sitting around for a week. My garden salad was just ok at the most. My wife's Ceasar was dripping with dressing, no good. My prime rib was ok to good. My wife's 10oz filet looked beautiful but did not have much flavor for Prime meat. Her Béarnaise $6 side had hardly any sauce is the cup. The two sides Brussel spouts were no good and mashed potatoes were ok. The $6 peppercorn sauce was not great, I have had much better. My daughter's scallops were absolutely horrible. Slimy and way way undercooked. Mushy and had no flavor at all. If I had been paying the bill, half of the dishes would have gone back to the kitchen. But I kept my mouth shut. I know good places after growing up in SF during the 60's to 90's and this place was not good. Especially for the $400 to $500 bill. What a joke to give this place a high rating. We decided to go to a nice restaurant at Roxy's since we got $20 due to the no room service for the room and half off entrees because we bought tickets to watch the Illusionists. It was crowded on Saturday and difficult to get a table so we decided to eat here on Sunday night since the Biker event was over. The waiter was kind and service was good. They walk around with a basket a bread and ask if you want any instead of giving you a basket which is better for them since they do not feel they are wasting bread. Try the cheese and bacon bread very good and loved it that I wanted to eat more. We ordered the 2 ribeye steak special for $55 dollars which came with green beans and mashed potatoes. The steak was 16 ounces I believe, but since I have gout, I did not finish the steak and saved it for later. But the steak was very good and cooked to perfection, it melts in your mouth. The souffle takes awhile to make like 35 minutes for something small, but it ended up being faster 20 minutes as we were playing Pokemon Go during the wait and there was a gym nearby. Booked dinner for New Year's Eve, and came to the martini bar beforehand for a cocktail. THe happy hour deals (see attached cocktail menu pages from 12/31/19) really can't be beat. The live music is always fun and it is nice to see some folks dancing on the little dance floor. Our service was timely but entirely lacking warmth. She also made no suggestions despite my clearly being overwhelmed the the menu size and expressing my preferences. The restaurant service was impeccable. We never went without water, dishes were promptly cleared, and the waiter made suggestions and offered tastings. The food was a 4/5. The temperatures were a bit off on the desert and one of the appetizers, and the presentation was really not lackluster. My biggest complaint was that the feel of the restaurant was very commercial, since much of the space was open to the casino or kitchen, and the noise level was very high. We probably would choose a different steakhouse (Atlantis) or Row restaurant (La Strada) before returning to the Roxy restaurant. read more

We go annually to South Lake Tahoe, however a weather system blew in and we were unable to go. We got a room at Eldorado for a few days. We wanted a good steak dinner and decided to try Roxy's. Best.Decision.Ever. We got seated at 5 pm at a beautiful table deep in the restaurant which we really liked, and got greeted by our server Clark. He let us know all the specials. We both ordered two glasses of Ferrari Carano wines that were so reasonable priced we could not believe it. 11 dollars for a HUGE glass of wine. Our eyes nearly popped out when it arrived. We went with a Pre fixe menu that we had no idea about...but thanks to our awesome server Clark, we elected to take advantage. I started with Caesar salad...probably best I have ever had..it was delicious. Hubby opted for bread, but Clark insisted he could order up something and share with me...he wanted to make sure we got out moneys worth. Hub just did not want an app. We then ordered 7 oz filets..his medium, mine medium rare...they were perfect. Hub is not a huge Bernaise fan, so Clark brought him out a Red wine Demi for his steak. Mashed potatoes were excellent, not too much garlic and the steak came with a generous portion of asparagus....it was absolutely delicious. Roxy is perfect for those looking to enjoy a great happy hour. They have 102 different martinis that are $5-$8 for happy hour from 4:30 to 6:30. They are bound to have at least 2 or 3 drinks you are bound to like. The lounge also has food you can order or even snacks. We had calamari, the Spanish platter and 3 martinis a piece for only $60. I can't imagine finding too many other places that will get you that sort of price point and have a great date night out. The only negative to happy hour at Roxy is that they only have a handful of snacks to eat and the prices are a few bucks more than you would get at any other restaurant. I am always a fan of snacks with drinks so it would be fun to have something extra. All in all, I will always enjoy Roxy's happy hour as long as they offer it. Took my wife here for her birthday because it's one of her favorites. Had a wonderful experience as always. Asked to be seated in the cobblestone seating area and was accommodated without question. Albert our waiter was absolutely amazing! From the very beginning of the evening until we left he was attentive, entertaining, absolutely made every minute of our dinner amazing. We had drinks and shared the filet mignon dinner. Ordered the truffle Mac and cheese as a side to share as well. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted incredible. Then to top things off Albert and the Manager of the evening came over with a complimentary desert and sang to my wife. Roxy never disappoints! A must go to restaurant in the Reno/Tahoe area for food, wine, cocktails, ambiance and service. The food is always top notch. The wine selection is also amazing. Jeff Vachon the Manager knows how his wine! He gives you the perfect recommendations to pair with food. And overall wine recommendations based on your preference. He's extremely knowledgeable! The food my friend and I had were delicious. We had the filet and lobster special. The steak was cooked perfectly. The lobster was fresh and also cooked to perfection. The service I get at Roxy is incomparable to other fine dining experiences. The ambiance at the restaurant is also very chic. You feel like you're in a different part of the world.
