Beautiful space located in Lido House. A small intimate omakase car with some lounge tables. We stopped by for a drink and small bites. All the fish was dry aged and too pretty to eat.

Intimate Fine Omakase dining in Newport Beach. Newly opened and located in the Lido House hotel. *Valet is included with this omakase experience. Upon entering the hotel, check in at the right at the Mayor's table. A Kaiya Hostess will walk you to Kaiya itself (not connected to the Mayor's table). The restaurant seats 12 at the sushi counter. Each diner is provided with a menu listing each nigiri that will be prepared for them throughout the evening. Staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. This restaurant cares deeply about customers & their allergies/food restrictions. Each piece of nigiri was carefully and thoughtfully prepared. My two favorites were O- toro (soy pearl and shiso leaf elevated this this dish beautifully) and the king salmon with the miso brown butter. Both were especially delicious. If you are a fan of cocktails, I would highly recommend trying a couple. I particularly loved the origami which incorporated many different flavors to make a beautifully complex and refreshing drink. The beet garnish was a surprising addition that I ended up loving. The Chef offered us to revisit our favorite nigiri of the evening without an additional fee. Basically, we received a bonus nigiri! I picked the O-toro, but any selection would have been delightful. It's a perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion or date night. Any sushi lover would enjoy this! My recommendation for attire would be smart casual. Making a reservation online (OpenTable) was very convenient. We prepaid online ($240 per person including tax and gratuity). If you'd like to add the beverage pairing experience, that's an additional $125 per person. There are 2 omakase seatings available at 5:30pm & 7:30pm. I left Kaiya feeling happy and full and very satisfied. I cannot wait to return!

Fabulous experience and so delicious! The staff and chefs were great, and explained each dish so thoroughly. We opted for the beverage pairing as well which included a mix of wine, sake, and a cocktail. You may not think that a selection of nigiri would be filling, but trust me, by the end you'll be stuffed! It's the perfect amount of food. Looking forward to trying next season's selections.

Generic menus for a food costed me almost $200. Nice ambiance but I wouldn't be coming back. Good luck

We started with the seaweed salad and yakitori, which were both tasty and made great appetizers. As nigiri lovers, we were excited to try all the different selections. My favorites were definitely the toro and yellowtail, and the uni was sweet and delicious! One thing I really appreciated was the fish-to-rice ratio. The nigiri had a small amount of rice, so you could really enjoy the fish without feeling too full too quickly. The fresh rolls were also yummy, with a good amount of fish and nicely balanced seasoning. Overall, it's a great spot if you're looking for good AYCE sushi at a great price. The staff were also super kind and friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable! What we ordered: -Seaweed Salad -Yakitori -Nigiri (tuna, toro, salmon, salmon belly, sweet shrimp, scallop, yellowtail, albacore, uni, salmon egg) -Pepper Me Crazy (in: spicy tuna, cucumber, top: yellowtail, jalapeno, sauce: mustard, hot sauce) -Salmon In & Out (in: spicy salmon, cucumber, jalapeno, top: salmon, jalapeno, sauce: spicy mustard, hot sauce) -Kaboom (in: spicy tuna, cucumber, jalapenos, top: albacore, jalapenos, green onions, sauce: garlic ponzu, hot sauce) -Tuna & Salmon Temaki (hand rolls)

I invited a couple friends and made them come right when they opened so we could properly attack this menu lol. There are different tiers, and we went with **Premium** because that's where you get the nigiri, carpaccio, sashimi and some of the higher-end items. Some premium items like bluefin toro, uni and sweet shrimp are limited to one per person, but there's still A LOT you can order. And we ordered a lot. We tried the tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore and octopus carpaccios. They were okay across the board. Nothing bad, but none of them really stood out either. The menu can be a little confusing. Some things are ordered through the QR code, miso soup you have to ask for separately, and there are a bunch of rules and different sections to figure out. I did appreciate that some rolls are available as four pieces instead of committing to eight. I'm not a huge roll person anyway, and the rolls were probably one of the weaker parts for me. My nostalgic order is always a Philly roll because I love cream cheese, and there was barely any cream cheese in it. They also use mustard-based sauces on several things, and as someone who HATES mustard... why are we doing this? Where I'd focus next time is the **nigiri and simpler items**. We tried a ton of those along with salmon belly, baked mussels, crispy tuna, udon, miso and more. The salmon belly was way fattier and larger than I expected -- more like an actual grilled belly portion than sushi -- so ordering three was definitely our mistake. We were cutting fat off trying to survive by the end lol. One thing I wish they did better was tell us what they were dropping off. We ordered so much that when plates started coming out, we couldn't always tell what was what. Service itself was attentive, but food came out at an interesting pace. We'd think we were almost done and then suddenly another wave would appear. Afterward I calculated what everything would've cost à la carte, and **we absolutely got our money's worth** with Premium. Would I come back? Probably. I'd order completely differently now that I understand the menu -- less experimenting with all the sauced items and rolls, and more stacking up the nigiri and things I actually liked. There's definitely value here; you just have to learn how to work the menu.

We kicked off dinner with a round of drinks: an espresso martini with a nice touch of cinnamon, a refreshing margarita, a tall draft beer, and a tequila margarita. Everything from the bar was top-notch. The seafood was definitely the highlight. We ordered a massive spread of oysters on the half shell, both classic and dressed with ponzu, scallions, and tobiko. We also shared a fantastic salmon and avocado specialty roll, along with sashimi and crudo plates that tasted super fresh. Overall, the coastal vibe is fantastic and the food and drinks are great, but hopefully service is a bit sharper next time!

Brought a friend and her family here to celebrate a milestone birthday on a Saturday afternoon…read more We were really hoping to sit in the patio, or at least near it but, unfortunately we were sat at a booth alongside the interior wall. Totally understandable as it's peak summer, and a weekend, they get busy. The restaurant was hot and humid. Now I'm sure they have AC, and even with all the windows and patio doors being open, they really should have opted to use the AC. The entire dining experience was uncomfortable. We ate our meal literally sweating. Even our server was sweating lol All our drinks went room temp in a matter of 10 minutes, we had to repeatedly ask for glasses of ice from the bar just to try and mitigate our body temperatures somehow. Also, the booth itself was incredibly tacky. And I don't mean visually tacky, I mean the texture. The feeling of plastic when it gets really old and it feels sticky to the touch, that tacky. You couldn't slide in or out of that booth if your life depended on it. And again, considering how humid and hot the interior was, it only made it worse. The lighting was also so dim that it gave the vibes of being sat in the corner of a musky Denny's diner lol. Halfway through our meal they turned the lights off for dinner service (I get it, to set the mood) but it made the table so dark we had to ask them to turn them back on so we could see the food on our plates. It wasn't that the entire restaurant was dim, it's certain tables (and sadly ours was definitely one of them) We had a party of 6, and one person got their meal well before the rest of the table. We of course insisted she begin eating, which she did, and our remaining meals came out as soon as she was done with hers. The waiter removed her plate as he set down everyone else's lol. The food was good, but, again with how uncomfortable the environment was, it was hard to enjoy. The restaurant was also fairly empty throughout our meal. We got there before 5 so that awkward "linner" time frame. Even so, we had to flag down our waiter for another round of drinks, water, etc. The Shorebird absolutely has stunning views, and that's what they're known for. Their food is solid, mist dishes fairly justifies the high price point. This visit was just not their best. Overall service and ambiance, fell extremely flat. I set the bar high for my guests, as they traveled in from out of town and I raved about my experience from a few months back. Granted, I was sat at the patio, overlooking the beautiful view, and the service was impeccable. With all the stellar dining options in Newport, unless you find yourself at a table on the balcony, I don't think Shorebird is the obvious choice. You'll end up spending the money regardless so you may as well look for a spot that is guaranteed to meet the expectations of the price point without having to be dependent on a view.

It's the same price for the outer reef burrito and the quality is about the same imo. The lemon butter burrito catch of the day missed the mark.
