Sushi station is fun especially for kids. Sushi is made and displayed on a conveyor belt. It is not the best sushi I have ever had but it's decent. You have to set your expectations when walking in. Typically you're there more for the novelty of the restaurant. The service was good, quick. We were seated right away and there was room to bring a larger family or group of friends. There is saki and beer in the menu but not a full bar. The prices are super reasonable and you can order items off of a menu if you're not seeing what you want in the conveyor. I would go back to this restaurant. It's fast food sushi. read more

The wife and I have previously been to the Arlington heights restaurant, which I think is the original. An Austrian friend with a Japanese wife introduced us to sushi station at least 10 years ago. While we really liked the original in pre-Yelp days, this one is just good as opposed to excellent. The conveyor belt has a lot of desserts on it. I go to sushi places to eat fish, not to eat a pile of sugar. The fish itself was good, but not as excellent as I have had in Chicago. The wife reported that her tuna had an after taste. The rolls with mayo hot sauce had too much. The rolls with panko on them had too much. I want to taste fish and not other stuff. I enjoyed the food and had a couple of beers at the bar. In the virtual food desert this far out in the middle of nowhere, sushi station is an acceptable option. read more

Another great dinner! I really enjoy sushi and "rotating sushi" makes it even better. Nothing like having the food come to you. A non-stop flow of sushi plates in a chilled tunnel. Sushi Station is always clean and inviting. The staff is very helpful, fast, and attentive. They don't mind explaining the food process to you or helping 1st time sushi eaters. Sushi is always fresh and tasty. They are always putting more plates on the conveyor. From veggie rolls to meat and seafood rolls, they have it all. Some tasty sweet desserts too. You can even order hot items off the menu, to be brought to your table fresh. Lots of drink options. From Japanese beer and soda, to wine, tea, and soft drinks. If you bring kids, they have to try the "Ramune" soda, it is tasty and has a fun way to open them. I actually drive about an hour from Rockford, just to come to this location. I like this place. If I'm going out with another adult we may stray to a different sushi bar but if I'm going with my growing son, we choose sushi station. Everyone is pretty friendly. I have my favorites, Sol Roll and Fire station roll. But I loved the Hollywood roll which they recently took off their menu. The shrimp shumai is so amazing. So many flavors. Hot, crunchy. Yumness. My kids really love the novelty of sushi conveyer belts. I find the quality of sushi here to be just average and would prefer to go to other sushi restaurants. But for the quick grab your own sushi plates the restaurant is fun for that. You're in and out pretty quick. The prices are not that cheap either. The plates range from 1.25 - 6.25 a plate. Most rolls are 4 pieces on a plate and they go for about $3.25 a plate. It adds up quickly and we can easily spend about $85 for 4 people. read more

Honestly, I'm not sure why the ratings are so low at this Sushi Station location. My experience today was superb and I would highly recommend this place for a good sushi meal. I came here for lunch on a Wednesday and arrived just in time for the opening. We were seated quickly and were greeted by a friendly server. The sushi was already moving on the conveyor belt and it was pretty fun seeing the sushi pass by. They have chopsticks, soy sauce, unlimited ginger at the table and the prices of each plate are listed in front of the glass. I had to restrain myself from picking every plate available. Each plate has a color that is a certain set price. It's easy to stack up plates, so I found myself being picky on which ones to choose. Sushi was fresh and tasty! I ended up also ordering a small bowl of udon ($4.25) which complemented the sushi well. Although, it's not really cheap to eat here, the quality matched the price and I was overall very pleased with my lunch. The building is clean and there are plenty of parking spaces. read more

We arrived 90 minutes before they closed and the conveyor belt was EMPTY...unless you like Boiled Whelk...no effort to refill anything and it seemed as if the server wasn't interested in helping us get anything from what should have been on the belt...I get it that stuffing the belt with sushi near the end of the night is less than ideal but it wasn't like we walked in 15 minutes before they closed...we won't be coming back...I would stay away...it ruined a birthday dinner for our daughter because she was looking forward to picking items off of the conveyor belt which is supposed to be the fun of coming to a place like this...so disappointed read more

Really fun to try traditional Japanese revolving sushi experience. It costs as much as if I was to go to a buffet or all you can eat. It just adds a little more environment and fun. I see children waiting to earn their toys from every plate they finish. It's a different experience, but not any more expensive than a normal sushi place. read more

The conveyor belt suckered me in, I admit. It's a color coded system where each plate correlates to a set price. So if you're on a budget, pick your plate wisely. A few of the rolls we tried were pretty decent. There was one where it had spicy tuna in the middle, with tempura crunches on top. At the end it was around $50 before tip for a large Sapporo, tempura appetizer and what equated to 3 full rolls you'd get at a typical Japanese restaurant. You see, each plate comes with at the maximum, 4 pieces from a roll. The most expensive one we picked was the green plate at $4.25 each. That's $1.07 per piece! And as someone else said, it's grocery store grade sushi. Nothing was particularly outstanding, but nothing was inedible. I would avoid the mochi in bamboo leaves. It was hardened and dry, as if it sat on the conveyor belt for too long. There are other desserts available, most all looked like they were store bought as well as appetizers available. If you see a sign for a roll that's unavailable, you can just order it off the menu. read more

I usually enjoy coming here in person and ordering.. ordered party tray and 3 orders of Philly roll shrimp tempura... the Philly roll was DISGUSTING. Was watery and slimy and tasted very awful. I could not finish it at all I ate one and that was it. I have never seen it look so watery/ slimy and taste so foul! I won't lie, I'm a picky sushi eater! Though I was very excited to try Sushi Station, I was skeptical and my expectations weren't high. My trip to Sushi Station can just a few months after a trip abroad where conveyor belt sushi is very popular. I love all that I tried while abroad, which is why I was so excited. So here's the breakdown of my experience: Atmosphere: it looks reminiscent of a Sweet Tomatoes or Soup Plantation. It was clean and not overly crowded. Service: excellent!! Every time we were 1-2 sips away from an empty glass, our server would already have a fresh drink at our table without being prompted. Sushi: the quality of the fish is 4 stars. It's not the very best, but it's good and definitely worth trying. The variety offered on the moving belt is just amazing! It's a great way to try so many different kinds of seafood and more. This is especially great because my bf is a sushi novice, so going to places like this is even better than the all you can eat sushi places because he can sample small portions of all kinds of options. All the other food: we did have a few other things like gyoza, edamame, teriyaki chicken, and some thinly sliced steak dish off the belt. Most of these are orders through your sever because they are warm dishes and the belt is refrigerated. Everything was good except I didn't like the teriyaki chicken and the steak was dry. They also offer deserts, which I'm normally way too full to ever entertain desert, especially at a seafood restaurant; however, I couldn't help myself and tried their Oreo bar and it was pretty delicious. One thing I really did not like was their wasabi situation. Their wasabi is only served in packets. Though the wasabi did pack a punch, it was so difficult to open the packets and I've just never been served wasabi in this manner before. It was definitely different and I really didn't like it. Not somewhere I'd go for a date night, but it's great for a quick and easy dinner and is definitely cheaper than some other nearby sushi locations. It's also been great for my little one that is interested in trying out new types of sushi, she can see what it looks like before deciding she wants to try it. I've never been to a sushi place where you pick it right off the belt and I had such a great dining experience. They have a variety of sushi, sides, and desserts to pick from. The only downside is when you've been waiting and each time the belt comes around, there's no more for that specific roll! We ordered sushi over the phone. It was supposed to be ready by 6:45pm. Being NYE, I got there early and expected a short wait. After not following COVID regulations and allowing people to pack in and not distance appropriately, I asked to wait in my care as I was uncomfortable inside. I paid and them waited in my car for an additional 35 minutes. When I called to check on the order after waiting for 20minutes, they couldn't even give me a timeframe for the order. How long had the rest of my sushi (raw fish) order been sitting there on the counter?? Regardless of the sushi quality, this is the first and last time I will be coming here. read more

The concept is familiar: copious plates of sushi move down a conveyor belt that snakes throughout the restaurant. Grab what you like and have at it. The food comes out on different colored plates, which correspond to the various prices for each item. You have two options for seating by the conveyor belt: at a counter or at a table. Despite having a steady amount of food readily available to you, consider getting a few items from the menu, including the Agedashi Tofu and the fried chicken. And, you should also check the menu prices to see if the same food would be cheaper than from the belt. For example, we order our favorite roll, the Hanako (imitation crab, cream cheese, green onions, tempura crumbs, mayo & teriyaki sauce), from the menu (4 pieces) because it's slightly cheaper than getting two plates of 2 pieces from the belt. There are so many options on the belt that you certainly won't go hungry by waiting a bit to get your preferred items! Aside from the Hanako, we also enjoy the Phoenix (spicy salmon, tempura crumbs, cucumber, and Sriracha to top it off). Sushi Station deals in volume, speed, and good service. While you're certainly not getting the highest grade sushi, you do get pretty good food that's an arm's length away; and that's why you come here. read more

I'm a little disappointed in today's experience at Sushi Station. I've been a customer for many years and have always enjoyed it. But today made me want to comment. First, I had both the spicy tuna roll and the negitoro. Both tasted as if the fish was not fresh. I know that for both, the tuna is minced, but they were more the consistency of paste. The spicy tuna roll tasted stale like it had say overnight. The negitoro was simply just fishy and had no texture or delicious tuna flavor. This is sad because the Rolling Meadows location is where I learned to live a gunk an, and especially negitoro. Today's experience made me regret getting it. Next there was the issue with the surf claim. It had a dollop of wasabi under the clam that rendered it as a heat bomb. I know this can happen but it was on 3 of the 4 I ate. Lastly was the For Station Roll. It was horrible. I honestly thought I had grabbed the wrong thing as it tasted so overpoweringly fishy, I almost spit it out. The issue there is that it is spicy crab salad which shouldn't taste fishy at all. I know this is budget sushi, but as my go to since they opened, I was just beyond disappointed. I will of course come back, and hopefully it will be better next Update - hate to lower my review, but it seems every time I come here it gets worse. The food is ok, but inconsistent. And the customer service is just lacking. I came in alone today and asked to be seated. The host took me to the first side you come to. There were 8 people total seated at the 14 seats...mostly pairs. He wanted to seat me in one of the only single chairs with someone on both sides. At the same time there were 3 people seated on the other side. I asked to sit there and the host honestly looked as if I had hit him. Once seated, the server brought one dish and one pack of Wasabi. I asked for a second dish and she seemed confused as to why I would want a second. After a minute she either with a dish. But still seemed confused why I wanted a dish specifically for my pickled ginger. I'll still come because the food can be very good. Just wish this location had the same amount of dedication to the customer that the Rolling Meadows location has. read more

I heart Sushi Station! I may regret saying this...but I think this location is even better than my homebase SS location in Rolling Meadows. It seems newer, bigger, cleaner, tons of staff, the food seems more fresh and more roll options overall. I have been to the OG Sushi Station legitimately over 100 times so when I was house sitting 10 minutes away from the bigger, badder location I knew I had to give it a whirl! What I've come to know of Sushi Station is it isn't the most amazing, most fresh sushi in the world but the conveyor belt sushi concept is just so uber cool! It's a cool place to take out of towners plus they have some very unique and random rolls. On top of all that, you don't have to get a huge $15 roll but instead can get 4 pieces on a plate for $3.25 - or whatever the price may be. I really love everything about the Sushi Station concept. I wasn't surprised when I was met with a 25 minute wait on a Friday, waiting at Sushi Station seems the norm plus the parking lot was packed! My personal favorite of their rolls is the Hanako Roll packed with indulgent ingredients like cream cheese, imitation crab, terikyaki sauce and spicy mayo with some hanako crumbs to boot. The rolls are huge and can't fit in my tiny mouth but man are they good! If you're into a little sizzle, go for the spicy hanako roll! It left my lips tingling on fire. At this location, I noticed they put more tuna, salmon, etc in their straight fish rolls than the other location and the fish was more fresh. Perhaps I went on a good day but they were on fire! Other roll recommendations are the Philly (standard classic), Gozilla Roll (deep fried cream cheese, imitation crab & salmon goodness) and Spicy Phoenix Roll (spicy tuna, tempura crumbs, spicy mayo & masago - another that left my mouth praying for some milk). They actually had a ton of other rolls not on their menu that were pretty darn tasty. Another interesting little bit about this location is it seemed a third of the conveyor belt was filled with desserts! I saw way more desserts here than I've ever seen at the RM location including an oreo dream bar that called me name and I resisted. It seemed to be super popular though because on first pass, there were about 8 of the Oreo dream bars and the next time the belt rolled around, they were all gone! Got to be honest here - I like this location better than the Rolling Meadows Sushi Station! Take this place for what it is - a fun novelty sushi spot with inventive rolls, good sushi (though not the best in your life) and good prices on all those fish blob plates you're going to be stacking up. read more

I've been to sushi places in other cities with the conveyor belt system (and one even had a moat/little river of sushi boats!) but never actually sat at the counter to enjoy the experience. I was missing out! It's fun and a nice way to enjoy a variety without committing to a huge roll. Plus you get to see everything and view all the many options before committing to eat it. All the items on the conveyor are clearly marked and list the ingredients as well, but the menus are also there and handy if you wear glasses or can't read the signs going by fast enough. There are also charts at each seat indicating price levels of the different color-codes plates. Was it the best sushi we've ever had? No. But was it good? Absolutely! We felt everything we selected was fresh and tasted good. They even have quite a few desserts to choose from and we enjoyed the Kushi Dango for our dessert choice (2 little skewers of mochi, 1 skewer was a green herb mochi w/red bean paste on top & the other skewer was a plain mochi w/sweet soy syrup) - a bit challenging to get the sticky sweets off the skewers but quite tasty! Our server was Chase and I would be remiss if I did not mention what an excellent job he did! Just the right mix of friendly & helpful, explaining the process since we were newbies to Sushi Station & offering suggestions as we went along, asking how we liked certain items, etc. Our beverages of soda and water were regularly refilled as well. Overall we enjoyed it and will be back to try other items. It was $30 before tip for the 2 of us (I think we tried 6 items/plates in all, including the dessert), which is a steal considering where we normally go for sushi it would be a bill of at least $50, if not $70.
