This is probably the best AYCE sushi spot in the city. I went for lunch which was 21.99 (dinner is 28.99) which is very worth it. The trick is to stick to nigiri. What makes this place so good is that the quality of fish here is VERY GOOD. They're using actual tuna and giving you decent portions with little rice. The Salamon nigiri even had girth to it, which at these places it never does. The other thing I appreciate is their you pay for what you don't eat policy is very clear unlike other resturants. Service was EXCELLENT. Plates were whisked away quickly, water was delivered promptly and everyone was so nice! They also keep giving you menus which is really nice because usually you have to ask for them. This place is fantastic! read more

Please do not get anything with spicy tuna. The spicy tuna is loaded with softened tempura flakes... so much so that the tuna had a strange light orange color. If fills you up really fast and honestly tastes horrible. The draft beer was served in a warm mug, and the miso soup was very bland. My partner and I are regulars here and have been for 4 years now I think. The staff is so nice and sweet. They saw we liked a specific sauce and went out of their way and gave us a small bowl of it. The manager of the location is also so incredibly nice and helpful. The food is amazing as well. Such a great price and while I know they have raised especially with COVID they have stayed pretty steady and to me is still worth it. I have a phone case from them and my partner and I truly just love the place. For rolls I always recommend the mango tango or dragon. My partner loves their chicken tempura. The jalapeño bomb is also amazing. We have had almost every waiter/waitress there over the years and we love them all from the staff that has been there for a while to the new and learning staff. read more

I usually enjoy my time at Sushi Taku, it's your typical AYCE service, nothing over the top or nothing terribly bad. But this time...something the server did def baffled me and my group and made us very confused. So we asked our server (I was told his name was Patrick) if we ordered hand roll, it's any of the rolls correct? He said yes and these rolls can be made in a hand roll, he gave us a recommendation, so we took his word for it. I even wrote HR next to it to signify it was a hand roll. When the order came up it was not a hand roll, but just a regular roll. So we asked our server if there was a mistake cause we ordered a hand roll. Patrick proceeded to tell us, yes this is a hand roll and made a gesture with his hand...rolling. Considering the price for AYCE, the quality is good. It gets really busy, and they do charge $1 per piece you do not finish (consequence for the waste). The hamachi and specialty rolls were worth it, but I recommend skipping hand rolls and random apps. The hand rolls were EXCESSIVELY huge and greasy/oily- they're unlike any other hand roll I've had at ANY other sushi restaurant. And they gave us more than we ordered. They were such a disappointment, but fortunately, the server understood and only charged us $5 for the uneaten last round. We got too full trying to each eat a hand roll. read more

First of all, yes it's an all you can eat place, the quality isn't going to be as amazing as a fancier order by the roll sushi restaurant. That being said, for eveything you can get, I think 32$ for dinner is an excellent price. They bring you portions that are small enough so you don't end up filling up on one item and then feeling sad you couldn't try anything else. Lots of great appetizers and a good selection of rolls and nigiri. This location isn't the best due to parking. It's all residential permit parking unless you're on the main streets. Service was relatively quick and they were good about consolidating dishes to make more room on the table. Use Yelp to save a spot in line or you can expect horrendous wait times. It's a fun place to go to for sure. read more

Sushi taku is a vibe! On a bustling Division street, it probably is one of the restaurants that draw the largest crowds. Weekends can get really busy with 1-2 hour waits to plan accordingly. They do have help waitlist options to help with timing. Food is a 4.5/5. The sashimi and sushi taste fresh and the portions are great. The sushi rolls are loaded with fresh fish and the they don't do overdo it with the rice (some restaurants do this to cheap out but not here). The serving staff seem to be really busy and hard at work here constantly, so kudos to them. I will say the food does come out on the slower side when it's busy, but you know it's being prepared fresh. Definitely worth the all you can eat! read more

Finally got to try the much talked about AYCE dinner spot and the hype is real! We got in at 4:40 on a Friday night where there are lots of open seats. Once 5:30 hits, the place is full and by 6pm there's a queue out the door. The queue and the food speaks for itself! The ordering process was straight forward, write down on the list what you want and food is out very quickily. We saw a boat served to some tables and it turns out that if you order enough food and request a boat, that's what you will get! Definitely must try next time. My favorite of the night was fried oyster, crab legs, dragon sushi, nigiris, hamachi kama... and of course dessert, the mochi ice cream is so delicious! read more

My partner and I came here on a Monday for lunch and we left stuffed. Parking was easy with street parking available on the same street side as the restaurant. We were seated immediately and had the concept of ayce explained to us. We checked off what we want on a singular paper menu then eventually had our food brought to us. After our food arrived, we were given another paper menu for our next order. We did about 4 or 5 rounds with just the two of us for $60 total with tip, about $23 per person without tax. We ordered the fried oysters, takoyaki, mexican roll, salmon avocado roll, color dragon roll, fire dragon roll, countless nigiri, and still so much more. We ate our hearts out and I barely have photos to show for it, but I adored our time here. The food was freshly made to order and you could tell. I've had better takoyaki before, but I still enjoyed theirs and the fried oysters rocked. The rolls themself were all generally made well, especially the specialty rolls. Our waitress was nice (and patient) and we had wonderful service. The only complaint I had is that the tuna on top of my color dragon roll seemed rather tasteless, but I didn't care all that much. I also noticed that the color dragon roll was mostly shrimp tempura inside so I recommend it only if you don't get full quickly. If you can't handle too much food, go nigiri or with the simple rolls. I did think that the mexican roll had way too many jalapeños as well, but I picked them out and I wasn't charged for them. Overall, wonderful stop and I think coming here for lunch is a better deal than stopping by for dinner if you have that privilege! We'll definitely come by again. read more

The only thing I would say bad about this place is the you can't really make a reservation. You can get on the waiting list via Yelp and that's okay. The service is absolutely fantastic. The price was right there at the same level of all the other all you can eat places, so that's great. But the quality of the sushi was next level by comparison to all the other all you can eat places. It definitely was fantastic quality. The Ambiance is nice, Pleasant and clean. It definitely is a little bit of a madhouse, with the wait time in line outside being close to an hour on a Saturday evening. But considering all of that, the service still is very good, in fact excellent. It's a little bit on the louder side but not too bad. You still have the ability to have a conversation at your table. At the time of our exit, the host was very nice and thanks for coming. Parking immediately around the place on Division is pretty close to Impossible unless you get one of the two valet Services nearby. But that may be different on evenings other than Saturday night. I chose to walk around the corner and park on Damen. I found parking there to be pretty easy. The salmon nigiri was likely the freshest I have ever had. I was also very impressed with their scallops. The Sashimi salad and the Ika salad were fantastic. The white tuna was great . All of the rolls were great. Since we liked it so much, we are going to visit again tomorrow. read more

It's definitely on the better side for AYCE. The service is great, the staff is friendly and was very accommodating to splitting our checks - we were a table of 5. The restaurant itself is very nice, clean, casual and was pretty crowded especially on a Wednesday. Even though it was crowded we did not have a long wait time. This is a perfect AYCE sushi place. I don't think you expect top tier sushi at an all you can eat sushi restaurant, but for an AYCE I think the sushi here is some of the best you can find. The rolls are well put together, with lots of fish and good rice. There is so much turnover here everything is very fresh. The few hot items we've ordered like the sesame balls and crab rangoons are also really tasty. The desserts are enjoyable especially the deep fried Oreo, although they're not included at lunch time. The service is efficient, not the most gracious but I don't really need that at a plate like this. They're on top of refills and always available to take your list of your next sushi order. Service was great - the server I had was really kind and attentive. The AYCE is pretty fantastic, although I wasnt hungry enough for that. I got the shiitake roll and spicy tuna. Love me a spicy tuna, it's always my go to. The Shiitake roll was good, but Id try a different one when I visit Chicago again.
