This place has pretty good sushi! It's a cute little spot with a great playlist! We didn't do the all you can eat because I was not sure of what to expect. We started with miso soup and wow, it was so flavorful! I nearly changed my mind back to the all you can eat... but I'd just told the waitress we didn't want that lol. Then came the sushi rolls and they were also delicious. Next time I'm in the area, would definitely do the all you can eat option minus the veggie/shrimp tempura; it tastes like nothing!

Sushi Taku is a great place for sushi lovers and anyone curious about sushi. They have everything from basic sushi to sushi you've never even heard of before! We did the all you can eat special for $31.99 per person. Great deal! Everything you order you can absolutely share. The appetizers we ordered were the calamari, softshell crab, and Goza. Exceptional! The calamari was my absolute favorite. We then ordered 2 spicy tuna rolls, eel, salmon, scallop, red snapper, and tuna Nigiri. The spicy tuna rolls were my absolute favorite along with the eel! The spicy tuna rolls were very spicy! Proceed with caution. The eel was amazing. The red snapper was light in taste, dipping it in the soy sauce definitely brings it up a notch. The service we received was attentive. Our waitress was very kind & helpful, she explained everything thoroughly. We did order a calamari towards the end of our day and didn't receive it, they were pretty busy but by that point we were pretty full. We concluded our meal with a miso soup and a macaroon. Both were delicious!!! I can't wait to go back here. The ambience was a modern day traditional sushi bar. Very vibey. We sat inside. They have outdoor seating. The wait time was not too bad we came in around 6 pm and receded immediately. It was packed! So get there early if you can. I highly recommend this place! It is a must, they have something for everybody.

I'm a little torn with this place. I had a wonderful spot snap dab in a busy walk through. Yet I seemed like it wasn't as busy a Saturday night should be. I'm not complaining, we got sat in 30 mins or less. The food looked amazing but there were subtle hints where the par was slightly dropped. Especially on the nigiri side of the menu , we did two rounds and each round was great for the wait. The ambiance was that of a typical sushi spot with minimal decor and bamboo walls , but it worked. I stayed , I ate , I went for a walk. It was a good vibe.

It's pretty rare for a restaurant to stay consistently great for over a decade, but this place has managed to do exactly that. Time really flies. I've been coming here since Day 1 and it's still my go-to sushi spot in Chicago. In all that time, I haven't found another AYCE sushi restaurant that I would confidently recommend to everyone I know that visits Chicago. I remember when it was around $20 per person when they first opened, and even though prices have gone up to around $32 now, the value is still incredible. The quality has remained remarkably consistent, which is something that's hard to find, especially in an AYCE sushi restaurant. The fish is always fresh, the rolls are well made, and the menu hasn't changed which is good because change doesn't always mean good. What really sets them apart is that they don't skimp here. Even after all these years, the food quality, portion sizes, and overall experience have stayed at a level that keeps me coming back. The service is just as impressive. The staff is attentive, efficient, and always friendly, making every visit smooth whether you're dining with a small group or bringing a table full of friends. This is a place I don't mind waiting 2-3hrs for on Fridays with friends. There are plenty of AYCE sushi spots in Chicago, but this is the one that has earned my loyalty year after year.

I had a great experience here! They offer both an all-you-can-eat option and the choice to order individual sushi rolls, which is perfect depending on what you're in the mood for. The restaurant was very clean, the food was fresh and delicious, and the staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Service was excellent.I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for great sushi, and I'll definitely be coming back! Note if u get the all u can eat u do have to eat all the sushi, if any left over sushi they do charge u a $1.00

Love coming here for AYCE!! It's such a fun spot when you're craving sushi and want to try a little bit of everything. The selection is great, the rolls are fresh, and everything we've ordered has been delicious. It's the perfect place for a sushi night with friends because you can keep exploring different rolls and dishes without having to choose just one. Just know you have to finish everything on your plate so try to order a few at a time!

Love the sushi here! They even have some great specials like two for one rolls. I was able to get four orders of California rolls and salmon/avocado rolls with a side of rice for only $20 which is amazing. Plus it's super flavorful!

We were visiting Chicago and had gotten there around dinner time. We saw this place right down the street from our Airbnb and decided we wanted to go. I noticed it was very very busy and we had to put our name on a little tablet thing that kept track of where we were in line. It took around an hour to get seated but that was partially our fault for not checking if we could sign in beforehand. They have a cute patio area that's pretty big and the restaurant itself had a lot of seating and was gorgeous! It seemed very clean and the staff seemed very focused and nice. We ordered salmon, scallop, some tuna, yellowtail, squid, and a smoked salmon for our mains. We had also ordered their fried oysters, the ika salad, miso soup and their special drink at the time! Everything was beyond good. First off, the price for all you can eat being under $40 per person was crazy to me and I was even more blown away when I tasted how fresh and delicious the fish was. Some of the best tuna and yellow tail I've had! The drinks were yummy and had a nice balance of bitter, sweet, sour, I would definitely order it again. The only thing we didn't love was the oysters... They didn't taste bad but the texture threw us off even though we love oysters. The other thing we didn't love was the smoked salmon nigiri. Nothing particularly wrong just not our taste I would be here CONSTANTLY if I lived in Chicago.

The food was well presented and fairly priced. Not mild-blowing sushi, but it was flavorful enough. Delivery was prompt and the soup was still nice and hot upon arrival

They under delivered on quality of food. I do not recommend the patio for seating , as it's not maintained well. Very robotic service and robotic feel about the place. Not very authentic or welcoming at all. Disappointing indeed, as I've visited in the past and had a much better experience. The inside is much nicer, so definitely dine in. I did try a product I really liked, so I gave the product the 2 stars. Posted the photos . Jinro, Strawberry, Korean product- delicious.

A great ACYE sushi restaurant. Only giving four stars because the quality is just good not great. The efficient way they're able to churn out so much sushi is impressive. Our waiter was friendly and attentive--checking in to see if we were ready for another sushi order. Most of the rolls were delicious, while a couple had an overpowering amount of sauce. I recommend the Spicy 2 in 1 roll, if you're a lover of tuna like myself. You should definitely put yourself on the waitlist if you're looking for some good sushi in the neighborhood.

    Talena H.

My friends went sushi so he came here. I wasn't really hungry. Also I'm vegan so I was like that's probably not gonna be much for me to choose from but they did have a few roll that I did to get. They were pretty good. my friends did all you can eat option honestly only do that if you haven't eaten because she almost didn't finish any of the last rolls and she had quite a bit to eat, but overall was really good would come back. We had a saki bottle. It was pretty decent. The waiter was nice. It was really quiet in there. It was pretty late. It was. I think we went in like a little bit before they close for the night would go back

    Ciara W.

This place was packed late on a Sunday night! Great AYCE deal on sushi and apps. We waited about 15 minutes to be sat as they add you to a Yelp waitlist upon arrival. Once seated, service was quick! Decent sushi and good apps, which were a great deal for the price. Restaurant was clean and had a nice, modern feel to it. This is the only AYCE sushi place I've ever seen give to go boxes when we still had a good amount of sushi left (without the extra charge), so that's a big plus!

Ask the Community - Sushi Taku

My friend doesn't like sushi enough to get the value out of the AYCE, but we still want to go together. Does the whole party have to get the AYCE or can I get the AYCE while my friend just gets their own entree?

Hi Hooman, Thanks for inquiring. The whole party does NOT have to do AYCE, we simply ask that you…

    Is this place BYOB?

No they have alcohol for sale.

    Is this place byob?

Nope. They have a pretty full bar offering.

What's the AYCE deal on the weekend?

It's the same all you can eat during the week, but they charge the "dinner" price all day during the weekend. If you go for lunch during the week, there is a little bit of a discount

    Still BYOB today?

It's a $10 corkage fee for every bottle of wine & 12 pack of beer. But, they also offer beer, wine, soju, & sake.

Do you take reservations? Can't figure out how to reserve?

No reservations, first come first serve! (As of 2/6/22)

How do you make a reservation?

They only take reservations for parties 6 and up. Parties less than 6 are first come first serve, or if there's a waitlist you can add yourself there.

    Is this place BYOB?

Yes. They also sell beer there as well.

If you get ayce, is everything on their menu available to order, or is there a separate menu?

    Whole menu!

Does it cost to reserve a table? If yes, will the money be returned after the person who reserves comes on time?

No it does not cost to reserve a table. Make you everyone arrive on time to get the table.

Does Sushi Taku offer discounts on birthdays?

    No they don't.

    Is this place still BYOB?

    Yes

Has anyone experienced being told that they were not allowed to order anymore nigiri? We paid for the AYCE menu but were told around that we were cut off from nigiri after the third round of food. We didn't order all nigiri on any of the other round

Hi Aly, You should never be limited to the number of rounds you are ordering as we are a AYCE…

So is the AYCE for Mon- Friday only for lunch or is it available during dinner well?

The AYCE is available all day. Lunch price is Mon. to Fri. from 12 to 3:30pm. Saturday and Sunday is all day dinner price.

Is there a child price for the AYCE?

It depends on age. I just called and asked about 6 year old and they said $7.99. I saw on a earlier question that Age 7-10 price is $11.99.

Do they have their own parking lot or is it street parking only?

    Street parking

    Do the take reservations?

Hi Kevin, we do take reservations for party of 6 or larger. Please call the restaurant directly at (773)252-8258 to check if there’s any openings. Thank you!

    Is Sushi Taku BYOB?

Yes!! They just change a corkage fee, I believe it's $10

    Is this place byob?

Yes it is! But they charge a $10 cork fee/service fee. I went two weeks ago. Also, make reservations…

Is soft shell crab still served on the ayce menu this time of the year?

Yes!! I was there on Dec 2nd and we ordered it. Its delicious!

I could hear the sizzling from the grill, smell the food cooking, and by that point I was more than ready to eat. Our server was really nice and gave us a bunch of recommendations. Everything sounded good, but I ended up going with the Pork Belly Yakisoba. This dish was packed with flavor. The noodles had that smoky, slightly charred taste, and they were coated in just enough sauce to make every bite rich. The sauce brought a nice balance of savory, a little sweetness, and plenty of umami that soaked into the noodles. The pork belly was easily the best part. It was incredibly tender and juicy, with just enough fat that it practically melted in your mouth. Every piece had those caramelized edges that added even more flavor. Then you get the crunch from the cabbage and bean sprouts, the freshness from the scallions, and the little nutty flavor from the sesame that tied everything together. Hahaha I'd definitely come back. This is one of those dishes that sticked with me long after I left.

I got the pork okonomiyaki lunch set and added a fried egg to it. I like that the table has a built in grill to keep it warm (I'm a slow eater, so this is extra beneficial for me). The bacon was quite salty, compounded by the okonomi sauce. Hoping the kombu vegetables would offset this, I mixed them into each bite to no avail. The pandan coconut mochi donut holes I chose were probably the highlight. They were crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and there was ample sauce for dipping. I think some people would find the service top notch here--constantly checking in on me and keeping water refilled. I guess that came with a cost: 3% service charge automatically applied, and the server proactively brought over a digital payment system, so the 18% tip I selected calculated off the total leading to what was essentially a tip of 23%.

Best part of all was the music. My ears perked up when I heard Hieroglyphics - The Who... A Plus Remix. Instantly felt "at home" with the underground, old school hip hop. Compliments to their curated Pandora playlist. I ordered the the spicy scallop roll, super san roll, and sawara (Spanish mackerel) nigiri. The spicy scallop roll was my favorite. The super san roll was a mix of their toro with varying fattiness. I appreciated that you could order half rolls at Sushi-San, which came out to 5 pieces instead of 10.
