Love this place! Amazing vegetarian options. I was shocked that this was an all you can eat sushi place because quality was fantastic. I'll be honest I didn't try any of the fish dishes bc I was scared but everything I had was incredible- seaweed salad, miso soup, edamame, mushroom roll and avocado roll. Great Saki and wine. My favorite sushi restaurant in Chicago. There, I said it. I went in a group of 7 so got to try a solid variety of apps, maki, and nigiri. I feel like you can't go wrong with anything you order (especially the apps and nigiri) but my favorite maki were the Spicy 2 in 1, Crazy Kani, Color Dragon, and Angel Hair. For apps, want to mention the fried shumai and sesame balls (note that these are of the smaller variety). One of my favorite parts of the nigiri (granted there are really only 2 parts) is the rice because it has the perfect amount of rice vinegar. For dessert, we all got a mochi ice cream. I got the green tea one and it was the perfect way to end the meal. Only down side is that each person is limited to one. The service was excellent as well. Our waitress constantly checked in with us to take more orders and give us more order sheets. Every order came out reasonably quickly so we could almost continuously be stuffing our faces. Finally, I must mention the prices for AYCE: $19 for lunch and $24 for dinner and weekends. For the quality of sushi you get, I think it's a good deal and definitely will be coming back here. All you can eat sushi done right! They have unlimited appetizers, specialty sushi rolls, and (some) dessert for $25 on the weekends. Just a crazy good value, especially because everything seems to be made fresh once they take your order. I would recommend pacing yourself but also not ordering too little at a time. I find that the sushi especially takes a while to come out. And sometimes, you can get full just waiting for the next round to come out! Definitely the best AYCE sushi place in Chicago! $25 for dinner and a pretty extensive menu. We started with appetizers like chicken karaage, soft shelled crab, hamachi collar, sashimi salad. Then ordered a huge platter of nigiri and rolls - we had to take breaks and ordered green tea ice cream in between. If you're ready to stuff yourself, then it doesn't get better than sushi taku! Most ayce places sacrifice quality for quantity, but sushi taku somehow manages both. It's a pretty popular place so it does get busy, especially during peak dinner times and if you have a larger group. You can put your name down though and grab a drink at a bar nearby. read more

This is my favorite sushi place in Chicago so far! Parking was a little hard, but that seems to be the norm in this area. It took us about 20 minutes to find street parking. The service was great: we were seated right away at the bar. Our waitress was always running around so after we filled out our order for the first round we flagged her down in no time. The food was impressive! Big rolls with lots of meat and it wasn't overly padded with rice. FYI their rolls were very saucy the night we went. I don't like a lot of sauce because I like the taste of the fish; I asked for the sashimi salad with less sauce. They listened! I got a bare sashimi salad with sauce on the side. Also the waitress came and clarified anything she had questions on. I was really impressed with both the service and the quality of the food. The hype is real! My friends and I tried this AYCE spot and were just so happy with every aspect of it! Our server was so incredibly friendly, attentive, helpful and even offered to take a photo of us with our big sushi boat! I mentioned in passing that it was my friend's birthday and she brought out a dessert for her on the house! Gosh darn sweet lady! They have a few beers you can order, as well as wines. Pro-Tip: Lagunitas is $4.50 and Sapporo is $5. Make the smart decision here. :P On the non-sushi front, we tried the Chicken Karage which is always a favorite of mine. It was so good, we got a second order! My friends and I really want the sushi boat! Just know you need to order a hecka lot to get the boat. I found their sashimi to be A-OK, not the best but it wasn't bad either and had a completely acceptable level of freshness. The rolls at Sushi Taku are really where it's at though. They didn't put an exorbitant amount of rice in their rolls and they were all nicely packed. Some of the standouts for me were the: ~Sweet Potato Roll - Honestly one of the best I've had and I have a sweet potato roll addiction so that's saying something. This is the only maki I found to have a tad too much rice but it was still really tasty. ~Chicago Roll - I put on for my city, on on for my city!!!! This was an interesting roll stuffed with asparagus and tempura white fish, topped with spicy salmon & spicy mayo plus some tempura crumbs. Loved this roll though I did not find it very spicy at all and I'm pretty weak. ~Spicy 2 in 1 Roll - This packed a bit more punch with spicy tuna & spicy salmon with a bit of a crunch, as well. They have a surprising number of desserts if you can find a little space left in your belly. I had some Red Bean ice cream and loved it. Kind of funny, but they have a limit on mochi ice cream pieces, one per person! I came here by myself for lunch and was so pleased with the entire experience. AYCE sushi can be tough as a solo diner because you want to try as much as possible but don't want to leave food on the table. Well, the portions here are small enough that even as a solo diner, you can sample a ton of different things. Here's everything I ordered and ate: Salads: - Seaweed salad: 4/5. Solid. It was seaweed salad, which is pretty hard to screw up or wow an audience with. - Sashimi salad: 5/5!!! This is a MUST. So much sashimi packed into a small bowl. There was probably more wasabi on it than I would've put on myself, but I surprisingly found myself kind of enjoying the kick. Appetizers: - Shumai: 3/5. I think the shumai comes fried or steamed, but I forgot to specify to my waitress and she didn't ask. What was brought out to me was fried shumai, which is weird to me because shumai isn't supposed to be fried. I'm guessing I would've enjoyed the steamed shumai more, but honestly you should probably just wait til you go to dim sum to order shumai. - Takoyaki: 4/5. The takoyaki was pretty solid, but not the best I've had. I thought the texture was pretty good but there could've been more flavor. - Baked mussels: 5/5. These were really good! Highly recommend. - Yakitori: 4/5. Pretty decent but when I'm trying to be really strategic about conserving stomach space, I would probably be fine skipping this. Nigiri: 5/5. This was by far the best AYCE experience I've ever had. Everything was fresh, fast, and worth ordering again. I've come here on multiple occasions and each time has never failed to disappoint me. Absurd orders of salmon sushi is a must have -- the salmon to rice ratio + high quality fish just simply can't be matched. Most sushi places (especially those that have AYCE) tend to have a lingering fish odor but just walking in here gets my mouth watering! Of the appetizers, my personal favorite had to be the sashimi salad!!! Small bites of fresh sashimi in sauce over a bed of greens - yum! The fried gyoza was also noteworthy - 1 order comes with 6 pieces (most of the apps do) and they're perfect for sharing. If you have room for dessert, definitely go for the mochi and scoop of ice cream. I really did not enjoy the fried bananas, but if you're feeling adventurous, go off! One of my favorite all you can eat sushi spots. Beware the wait could be very long (over an hour) as they don't take reservations. My advice is to get there at non-peak times such as right when they open after their break at 4:30pm. They have a variety of appetizers rolls and desserts. I recommend getting the hamachi Kama (collar). They have this only available for dinner and it is amazing. It is one of the appetizers. Unfortunately, this last time I came here albeit it was late about 10pm they were all out. Hence the 4 stars. read more

I often get nigiri and some small rolls for AYCE since the other specialty rolls can be filling. The restaurant itself is large and clean. The ordering process is quite simple and similar to most AYCE places as well: just mark how many of each item you want on a sheet of paper. Once you're done, the staff will grab your sheet, and you'll get your sushi soon after! Overall, a must visit for sushi lovers in Chicago! Just beware: there are long waits on Friday nights especially after 6:30pm! The takoyaki,and chicken Kaarage were favourites for my table. The Sashimi Salad is really good as well to get the taste of raw fish going for the night! The apps work especially well with a lot of the sake options on the menu, to get you nice and buzzin before the sushi comes. Sushi options are diverse and high quality for an AYCE restaurant. The specialty rolls were great, and should be a focus for any group going! You will easily eat your money's worth. The hype is REAL! Best AYCE sushi in Chicago, and trust me, I've had them all. I had heard rumors of this place being the best, so naturally being the self tilted AYCE connoisseur, I had to be the judge of that myself. I had also heard this place gets busy, so last Saturday a group of 3 friends and I arrived just before noon to find there was already a line forming outside! First sign I was about to be in for a treat. Right at noon they opened the doors and we were seated quickly. The restaurant is pretty big, and it fills up fast! Not long after we were seated, the whole place was packed. Our waitress came over, asked it was our first time (it was) and she briefly walked us through the menu, explained the pricing, and let us know there was NO time limit. (danger) Fortunate for them, I had plans that afternoon so I couldn't sit there all day. Although we did stay a good 2.5 hours. AYCE sushi places get the reputation of not using the best quality of fish. Quantity over Quality right? Not this place! For apps we got the edamame and fried oysters (don't skip!) and then dove right into the good stuff. Now because my eyes can sometimes be bigger than my stomach (and there is no time limit) we started off with a few orders of different nigiri, including tuna, yellowtail, salmon, red snapper, and eel. FRESH. Truly the only word to describe the quality of sushi we were served. We tried a few of the signature rolls like the Fire Phoenix, Crazy Tuna, Spicy 2 in 1, Fire Dragon, and Spider Roll (always a classic). As full as I was, I still had a bit of room left for some more nigiri, so we ended the meal with another round of tuna, yellowtail, and salmon nigiri. Needless to say I was sufficiently stuffed, but not in an uncomfortable way. Remember to order in small amounts, just more often, because if you do not finish what you order, they will charge you (industry standard for any AYCE sushi place). I was really excited about this place, but it didn't give me what I thought it would. Visited on a Friday evening, table for two, wait was only about 5 mins. The host verified that we each had a Covid-19 vaccine card. We were seated against the wall in a booth. Our server forgot we asked for a drink. Had to remind her as we we're more than halfway done eating. Due to Covid they gave us paper plates and two napkins along with bottled water. Could have used a few more napkins but the server was not attentive. It was busy filled with customers dining, but often at times the servers were just gathering around in a certain area. We did the unlimited Sushi option, which is not bad considering how much you can eat. We didn't end up eating a lot, so unless you haven't ate all day I would skip the unlimited option. If you are going for dinner, I recommend getting there about 20 Minutes before it opens back up at 4:30 so you can get to the front of the line! All of their sushi is high quality fish. I like mixing in a lot of sashimi with only a few fancy roles so I don't fill up to quickly on the rich sauces/toppings. I had been wanting to come here for awhile, and was glad to give it a try this past weekend. I love eating on Division St, and this place is set up well. They open their windows during the warmer months and have patio seating. The staff is also friendly. I came with 3 others. 2 of us were really hungry and wanted AYCE, and 2 of us wanted to order a la carte. I was worried we were all going to have to do AYCE, but our server was fine with half participation. The pricing is very good. $29 for AYCE, and the a la carte menu is very affordable as well. I got a salmon roll, salmon avo roll, unagi avocado roll, and caterpillar roll. None of the fish will blow you away, but it's all good. The rice isn't perfect, but again, it gets by, and the prices can't be beat for the location. I would give this a try if you want to eat affordable sushi in a cool part of town. read more

Great AYCE sushi place, with reasonable prices to boot! Came here with a friend on a Saturday night-there was a wait, so we put our name in on the app and went to grab a drink next door. The app is nice, it shows you what place you are in line, how long you've been waiting, and the size of tables that are ahead of you in line. We ended up being seated at the sushi bar, which I didn't mind except that it was kind of cramped (especially with AYCE!). The deal is $24 a person, and includes appetizers, salads, soups, rolls, and dessert, so you can get pretty much anything! And we did get a bit of everything-miso soup, salad, crab rangoon, some of the specialty rolls and some of the regular rolls. They do charge if you have leftovers, and the specialty rolls are a full 8-12 pieces, so don't let your eyes be bigger than your stomach! We also split a bottle of wine, which was also reasonably priced at about $25. Our server was attentive, though there were a couple times that we were winding down with what we were eating and had to wait to put our next order in. Not a terrible thing, as it gave us time to digest (more room for sushi!) but it was a bit noticeable. It also is very loud in there. It does come with a sauce but it's pretty good. Also try the mochi dessert! All the stuff on the menu is good. I prefer the sushi over the rolls, but that's more personal preference. And this place is good enough to eat your fill on just sushi. The rolls are good too and thick cuts of fish inside. I think we found the bet AYCE sushi in the city. Apps on deck, great rolls and even dessert! Like that is freaking awesome deal that won't let you leaving broke. You really are getting the bang for the buck if you go for AYCE. You have so many options available and even apps that you wouldn't have at any other spots. Presentation is pretty and everything is so tasty. I think the layout of the spot is a bit cluttered but I can see how they are trying to cater to as much consumers as possible but still a little bit tight. Service needs a lot more work because it did take awhile for our server to come and take our order. I wish there wasn't a limit on dessert but hey at lest we actually have dessert as an option. Good luck on parking because that is a pretty busy street but if you go on the little side streets you'll be able to find a few spots. When I hear AYCE sushi I always get a little nervous - I've had experiences in the past where the fish was low quality or poorly stored/cared for, or the wait staff has been tyrannical about finishing even small garnishes. When we arrived around 6 on a Friday there was a 30-40 minute wait, so we went to a bar nearby until they called after only 25 minutes, which was a pleasant surprise. We were seated immediately and given menus and a card to fill out. You can always get a new card to order more later, so I suggest starting with a normal amount of food and adding from there, as you do need to finish it within reason. The sushi itself wasn't the best I have ever had but certainly was good and especially for AYCE. The fried gyoza was good and the jalepeño appetizer was absolutely phenomenal.
