I give this place 5 stars for everything over all. There food is always good never left unhappy. They are always so warm and welcoming when you come in and eat and even when you order out. The food isn't very good here. The rolls are huge, but covered in sauce to make up for the lack of quality fresh ingredients. Even the miso soup was so-so. The service is mediocre and the atmosphere was stale and dry...I'm surprised the other reviews are so good. For us, it was a big disappointment. read more

Sushi is a VERY delicate and precise process that requires skill and above all fresh fish. This place had fresh fish but everything else was mediocre. Lately, Sushi Valley has been completely letting me down. I've eaten in or taken take out over a dozen times. The owner and the staff know me, they ask me how I've been, how's work, etc. They close every night (sometimes earlier) at 9pm. And as of recently, they've refused to do delivery orders after 8pm now. That's not mentioned anywhere on their site, it's just they don't want to deal with leaving any later than they have to so they say call it in before 8 or don't bother at all for delivery. Fine, I'll oblige. Their site has been updated a little as well. It used to be your minimum order had to be $25 dollars now it's $30. They used to include soup and salad with entrees now it's just soup for some. They used to hassle me about using a card instead of cash( I don't have much cash on me if at all). It was always something with these guys. Their food is a 3.5. Avoid their pho, and curries (neither are authentic or very good). Stick with rolls. Their fried rice is dry but good with the sauce (and only good with the sauce --they forget to include it sometimes). Their sashimi can taste a little fishy sometimes. The reason I kept my review at a 5 until now, was the owners and the service. The new girl that answers their phone has no personable skills. Once at 5pm when I asked for delivery she said "Um..." and the next person I heard on the phone was one of the owners telling me if I could come in for pick up instead. This is not the only time that I've encountered this girl via phone or in person. She is fair in person, but she needs to stop answering the phones, or they need to find someone who can be pleasant in person and also on the phone. The owners need to actually hire someone to do delivery. It sounds like they have one of the guys in the kitchen doing it. IT used to be they had a delivery boy or two but they keep trying to cut costs. For people who keep telling me their business is busy and doing well, it sure looks like they're trying to cut every corner they can. On top of that, their rolls have gotten really really sloppy. I mean either the rice isn't made correctly or the rolls aren't rolled tight enough. It's getting pretty bad. I mean if the sushi deli at the grocery store can get that part right, surely you guys can too? And ultimately, if you say you offer delivery and then make it impossible for delivery (First it's 8pm, now it's 5pm, please make your minds up), I won't be able to frequent your establishment. So for that alone, I'm tired of Sushi Valley and their unprofessional new hire, their average food, their impossible delivery hours, and their overall inconsistencies. You lost a frequent customer. I would not go here again, and if I did I wouldn't order sushi. The fish was cut in HUGE and thick slices and didn't taste fresh. I even had to send a roll back (which I always try to avoid doing) because I had one bite and it was just flavorless mush. I wasn't from the area and was looking for a promising sushi spot for dinner. Judging by my options I didn't have many based on the very few reviews there were for the entire area. I decided to try this place out by the reviews and what I was closest to. The place is quite small, about nine tables with a small bar. My waitress was nice and sincere though with lack of proper English I didn't mind. I ordered a caterpillar roll, avocado roll and a spicy salmon roll. First off, the sushi was expensive but I should've known since I'm spoiled by living on the west coast concerning fresh fish. Also there weren't many options with rolls or makis. The caterpillar roll was prepared wonderfully, the eel was soft and tender instead of crispy and overcooked. The spicy salmon roll was delightful. I was skeptical with it being almost $7 for just a salmon roll but it was a good choice. My avocado roll looked like it was stuffed but realized there was also too much rice, even double rolled. I didn't enjoy that too much. And the spicy mayo was not good to me at all. I'm sure the place has other great options but there weren't many. I don't see myself coming back but it seems to be doing great for the particular area. read more

26-Apr 2015 - Still a good restaurant. The fish is still as fresh as can be and the cuts are still oversized and downright yummy. One thing I've noticed today, the older male who usually makes the sushi is now leaving it to his wife. Nothing wrong with that as far as my own preferences go, in fact she makes some good sushi... but now that she is also doing the prep work, the salmon slices seemed somewhat thinner than the usual super thick slices. I hope this was just a fluke because the way I see it the quality of fish and the oversized cuts is what sets Sushi Valley apart from the competition! I wonder if they read these reviews. WORST customer service I've ever experienced. Went in at 7:15 on a Sunday - sign says they close at 8pm, yet the second we walked in they only offered to serve us a To-go order. When we asked why they said they were closing. I pointed our that their signage said they were open until 8pm and they begrudgingly offered to allow us to sit down. We passed on their pathetic excuse of service and decided to go to Sushi on Oracle. If you are looking at reviews for your decision to dine here I highly recommend going to another sushi bar. It's OK but nothing to rave about. The waitress (they seem to only have one) is very friendly and efficient. Once I tried to order some sushi. I wanted it before my tempura. Never happened. Too slow. But the shrimp tempura is pretty good. We've had it several times. WARNING: They close now at 8 PM. Used to be 9PM. I guess most of their customers go to bed with the birds. We arrived at 8:15 and were told the kitchen was closed but they could fix a to go order??? If it's closed how would they do that? We left. Not a fan of Styrofoam dishes and cold tempura. We dine at 8 PM usually so I guess we will be going to Sushi On Oracle which stays open until 10PM like a normal, thriving business. When restaurants cut hours it's usually a sign of failing business. read more

Hard to nail this one down. This is my third time here and I still don't know what will happen when I go. Bottom line, good enough to come back but read on. The sushi is good. The place is clean and smells clean. I know seafood and fresh seafood smells slightly briny, this place does. If it smelled like fish is an absolute deal breaker for me. Miso soup is very good. Chicken terriyaki is good. Tempura is a bit heavy for me but you can tell that the oil they cook it in is clean. Sushi is very good. Service, hmmm. ... the first time I tried the place I went on a Friday night. The place is not real big and it was full but folks were leaving so I figured I would wait for a spot. Wait I did, four to five minutes for a table to be cleared, then five more for a menu and sushi list, then ten more and no water, no one to take an order. We looked around and one other couple was in nearly the same boat. They got glasses of water, but they were empty, long ago consumed. In the meantime plenty of folks came and went with their takeout. I left hungry and thirsty 30 minutes later. The second time at three on a Saturday was fine. Service good. Food good. Special sushi rolls were creative and delicious. Third time on a Sunday night at eight, an hour before posted closing time and they were closing early. They did take care of me and made me food for carry out. The takeout sushi was good. This seems to be a family owned/run place. I haven't asked, but the same kids were there helping and/or doing homework each time, same woman running the front. Seem like nice folks, and there are plenty of smiles all around. I guess if you go with a small town attitude and you usually cheer for the small business woman/man/family, than this is your place. If you come here having recently lived in L.A. and Seattle and expecting similar big city service then it is a little off. If you can slow down to Tucson time then I think you will be happy. While the staff seems to be working very hard right now, I did not have a good experience. The roll I got was not good and I could not eat it because something in it was bad (scallops I believe). I eat sushi regularly including raw scallops and have never had this happen but after two pieces of the roll, my stomach hurt and I had to stop and discard the rest. The tempura was okay but many veggies in the tempura order still had uncooked flour in them as I ate and while this is something that can happen with tempura, it is not common at the sushi places I frequent. Unfortunately I won't be returning and they also did not return my message to the restaurant about my concern via their website I am not one to write bad reviews or complain, but wanted to warn them about the scallops and any one else getting sick. read more

This is our go-to sushi place. We've never been disappointed. We always order a couple of Philly rolls, shrimp tempura, and something we haven't tried. The veggie roll is good and fresh. Absolutely fantastic sushi place. My girlfriend and I ordered takeout- I got the Oro valley roll and an order of tuna nigiri while she got cucumber roll and avocado roll. Everything was amazing. The flavors were fantastic and everything was perfectly fresh. The value was awesome at just over 20 bucks for the two of us, and the staff were incredibly friendly. I decided to try a new place to get sushi, so I ordered the Philly Roll, Rainbow Roll, and California Roll for take out. The miso soup was okay. Not fantastic, but not bad. The sushi pieces were cut pretty large, some just way too large to fit comfortably in your mouth. Additionally, I don't think the Cali Roll or Rainbow Roll were rolled very well, as when I tried to use chopsticks to pick them up, the bottom would fall out and it would completely fall apart. I ended up abandoning the chopsticks and using a fork. The crab they use tastes sort of weird, and I usually love imitation crab. The Philly Roll was okay, but not great. To be honest, I only ate a couple pieces of the California Roll before I abandoned it. The Rainbow Roll I was pretty unimpressed with. I would personally steer clear and look elsewhere. I've found a couple sushi places I enjoy, although my favorite doesn't do take out. I tried this place before it had decent reviews, but I honestly couldn't believe it was so bad for the good reviews it has. I definitely won't ever be going back. read more
