This spot looks like a little hole in the wall but I'm telling you, the sushi is top quality and the service (with just 1 server & a full house) was impeccable. We got all you can eat sushi for $25 a person & I must say, it's the best deal you can get on a Friday night if you're starving. The vast majority of my reviews are 4/5 stars, as I take every part of the experience into account, not just the flavor of the food. But today's experience at Sushi X was pretty dismal overall. We arrived based on a recommendation of all-you-can-eat sushi for a decent price. Although I had no intention to partake in that offering, we quickly learned if one person at the table was getting all-you-can-eat, both had to. (Apparently that is the case no matter how large the party). While I can understand the concept, I immediately find this kind of rule off-putting. While I am sure some would take advantage of another's all-you-can-eat choice without getting it themself, I instantly feel as though I am not trusted by the management to follow common courtesy to not indulge in another's special. Rules being rules, both of us decided to go for the all-you-can eat offer. The biggest compliment I can offer is the salmon sashimi was of excellent quality. I'll also compliment Sushi X for the wide variety of choices, more than just sushi and sashimi. Many appetizers were offered, salads, soups, and even two desserts (ice cream or the deep-dried banana with ice cream, chocolate sauce, etc). But with my 1-Star rating clearly visible, it's time to drop the hammer on the management. After our initial choices of sushi rolls and various sashimi pieces....the experience quickly went downhill with subsequent choices. The pictures I attached are actual serving sizes of the sashimi from our second and third order. I am embarrassed for the management for showing you all the actual peanut M&M size of some of the sashimi. Unprecedented. Their policy also states at the table no over-ordering as any substantial leftovers would be charged at ala carte prices. So, not only have they announced upon your arrival that they don't trust you not to steal food you didn't pay for -- they also don't trust your judgement regarding how much you think you can eat. Logic would suggest that if you warned your patrons they will pay for leftovers not consumed, you probably wouldn't also need to tell them not to over-order. We felt so sorry for the young man rushing around trying to handle all the tables it wasn't worth even getting into it with him, or the equally-young lady at the cash register. The final insult was the $24.95 weekday price for all-you-can eat does not count on Friday, because, according to management, Friday's are the weekend. We paid $27.95 each. That is clearly stated out front (which we missed) but I find it humorous that management has also shortened many professional's work week to just 4 days. Spread the word and share these pics. This was my second time here. The first time was pretty good. We just went back for my son's birthday and it was terrible. They forgot what we ordered, were rude, and we waited over an hour for first course to come out. This is an all you can eat but we couldn't wait for another round. I had the worst dining experience of my life here. Sat there for two hours only got served less than half our order. The order wasn't incorrect on top of that and we never received any refills of water. I will never return here. We were completely ignored and the servers were insensitive to everything. INFATUATED. better a little late to post the review but my priority is to come here again before I move out of the country later this month AND frequent here when I'm back in the tristate area because this place will be on my mind. I adore sushi but never experimented too much with all variants of fish and that's because I've been to too many sushi spots where their fish is too fishy, old, and quite literally something at some point would taste horribly amiss in my mouth and I'd lose my appetite. not here. I wholeheartedly loved every single thing I try here. everything. a recommendation? blindfold yourself and try at random because I'd eat here every day if I wasn't a drive away. the owners are the most beautiful couple that truly care about their dishes and Natasha is a bright star.. such warm and intelligent soul. I have never felt more at home in regards to any sushi spot than here and so comfortable in an atmosphere that really tends to you properly. the inside reminds me of the east village sushi places in NYC and hits great memories in my mind. I have to say that the sushi is moderately good for an all you can can eat and if you're a big eater, you definitely get your money's worth. Especially given that it's BYOB. The issue is the service. At first I took it personally, but then I realised it was not personal and the server was the same with us as they were with other people. It became a running joke with a couple of other tables when we all realised we were frustrated by the same lack of service. It's like we offended our waitress in a past life but we had no recollection of it and for her, it was like it was yesterday. I hate to say this but I really feel that sushi X has gone downhill. I hadn't been there since before the pandemic, and at that time I had frequented at least once a month with family and friends and no one could ever get enough of it. After going recently with friends for the first time in over 2 years, everything between the food and service was noticeably disappointing and overall not good. For example, the Kani salad was not mixed and the sauce was just plopped on top of the crab. It was weird and didn't taste good. The rock shrimp, which used to be crunchy, crispy and tasty was soft and lacked any crisp or flavor. The sushi was all warm and underwhelming, giving no one a "wow that's good stuff" reaction. We constantly had to hunt someone down to get more water and felt like we were inconveniencing the staff every time we asked for something. I'm disappointed because this was always our go to place for sushi and apps. Maybe things were just off the night that we went, but I don't think we will be back soon. read more

Sushi is good. This restaurant has more variety of special rolls than other all you can eat Sushi restaurants. The staff has always been polite to me and my guests. Guests are welcomed to bring their own beverage as they do not serve alcohol. I enjoy the spicy seaweed salad, pepper tuna, pepper salmon, the "X" roll and tuna tartar. Delicious AYCE sushi. There's certainly no shortage of AYCE places in Bergen/Rockland county. Sushi X stands out for its service and atmosphere, both of which are a slight cut above some of the other choices out there. The food quality is top notch - rolls are fresh and the kitchen items are well-prepared and tasty. It's a fairly standard system - fill out your order on the sheet and the staff brings back plates of delicious food. I'm lazy and like the idea of being able to sample as much as you want, as long as you eat all you order. It's a decent system and Sushi X carries it out well. The space is cozy, but comfortable. Went there with a group of 4 and we enjoyed the food so much. Great service, anything you ask them they will do. Loved the salmon sashimi. Was not crowded for lunch which is good. Fast service and we wanted fruit desert like oranges or something and they got it for us even though was not on the menu. They charge 18% gratitude for groups of 5 or more. As a vegetarian, I really appreciate a place that's got more than just avocado cucumber rolls on their sushi menu. At Sushi X, they have a spread of veggie rolls ranging from peanut avocado, to fried sweet potato, and even mango avocado rolls! All at a steal: any 3 rolls are just $10! Okay, so I love a bargain just as much as the next guy, and their "house salad" only cost $2. But here's the thing: it was box of pale iceberg lettuce - literally nothing else. Some advice: throw in some slivered carrot, a cherry tomato, and a slice of cucumber and charge $1 more! Salad definitely needs to be comprised of more than just lettuce. #saladpolice Other than that, no problems with the food. I now know I'm not a fan of the mango salmon...I was a bit skeptical though as the food was coming out within minutes. I had a good experience at this sushi restaurant. First of all as you walk in the sushi/food smells really good. The menu is smaller than most sushi restaurants that I have been to but they have the typical handrolls such as California roll, spider roll and avocado cucumber. I ordered a "lounge roll" and a avocado cucumber roll. Both tasted fresh and good. Prices are good. Not too expensive. The service is fairly fast. Good food and decent pricing, doesn't get much better than that. When you add in the all-you-can-eat option, it's really a no-brainer that this place is worth a try. Of course, as is with most places that offer unlimited quantities of food, the quality is definitely not top notch (makes sense since they have to make everything rather quickly). But it's not bad either, don't get me wrong. I have done both the all-you-can-eat and the a la carte dining here. For the all-you-can-eat there are so many options and it's definitely impossible to try all of them. I get full really quickly so it isn't the best option for someone like me but if you're a buffet master, go for it! Make sure to save room for dessert. This place loses a star from me because of the appearance on the inside. It looks very shabby and a little dirty, to be honest. The paint is chipping and the walls have random stains. I think they try to cover it up by making it dark but that doesn't hide much. The place can definitely use some sprucing up to make it a little more appealing. This used to be my family's favorite restaurant. It appears the owners no longer come in and have left the place to be run by staff/children. The sushi bar appears dusty and unclean. The entire staff sat in the back of the restaurant today eating behind us as we sat at the sushi bar. The man making our sushi was eating lunch and preparing our sushi... being sanitary when preparing and handling food appears to have gone out the window. It saddens me that after 10 years this establishment has now lost us as patrons. I can't say that the food doesn't taste good because it does - it's the cleanliness of the establishment that worries us. Sushi X made me a sushi believer! I was a california roll kinda girl, that dabbled in the land of wasabi but never crossed the trenches of sashimi. But after coming to sushi X, all is fair game! For about $20 you can not only have all the sushi, but also sashimi, teryaki, tiny egg rolls and miso soup you want! I think this is a wonderful place to get comfortable with your raw fish palate and venture out to see what you like. All the food is fresh, there are sushi masters making rolls right in front of you, the food comes out fast and I have not had one thing I didn't like. I won't even go down the list of rolls like the snow white, fire cracker and peanut and avocado ones that I still salivate for during late nights....but I will tell you that both sushi lovers and non-believers will find a common ground at sushi x and baste in the absurd gluttony it induces. I came here with a large group of 15 people for a friend's birthday dinner. The kitchen food and sushi was very good for all-you-can-eat. So, why am I not rating this place higher? I have several reasons: 1. The service. The servers were downright rude to us. They would often place things in an unorganized manner or not in an easy way for my group to share things. If anyone had a question, servers often would be defensive or would ignore the question. Not cool. 2. The way items were plated. Our various orders arrived on large plates. There was barely enough room on the table to fit these plates and for us to share the items easily. Someone in the group often had to hold a large platter of sushi in order for someone else to grab their sushi off of it and also while they were eating it. For the money we paid, that's obnoxious. 3. Policy. If one person in the group wants all-you-can eat, everyone has to get it. This is silly. I don't need to say anything else. This place may be close by and convenient, but I'd prefer to go to other all-you-can-eat sushi spots, especially due to the service alone. read more

Id like to consider myself the queen of cheap, and cheap deals that is. And $25 for all you can eat sushi AND appetizers, sounds like a real nice deal to me. And it was...for the most part. The sushi rolls itself were really good. I like to get more bang for the buck, so i only ordered from the "special roll" section ( i took a pic of the menu you can choose from) The tiger roll was by far my least favourite, i completely judged it because i love cats and anything to do with felines. However, i was really digging the Firecracker roll which is basically a shrimp tempura and spicy crab in one. best combo ever. The crazy girl roll was really good too. The crunchy eel was on point also. As far as apps go, the spicy seaweed salad can fall off that menu. It was not spicy and was drenched in mayo and was the most depressing. My favourite was the crab ragoon, it had a great crab flavour and was really creamy just how i like it. The fried calamari looked like an onion ring...a bit weird. and the miso soup wasn't that great i heard. the service was a bit off. the waitress and waiter that we had were basically running around like a chicken with their head cut off. They weren't that vocal with us about things, we had to ask numerous times for things, they also randomly brought over the bill for two of us before we asked. they probably got sick of us. they also don't know how to deal with big groups, we came in as a group of 8 and sat and two tables put together. apparently they wanted all 4 people who were part of the all you can eat to be on one table...so we had to pull our table away from the other. as if it weren't hard enough to give the other table their food..now we had people stretching over us to give up the food. we ended up putting the tables back together because that was the lamest idea ever. all of our all you can eat rolls came out on one big plate which was a bit annoying. thank god we were nice humans and actually wanted to share with each other. anyway, yeah id come here again. byob for all you alchies out there. read more

As for all you can eat places, this has to be one of the top. Not only do you get all you can eat sushi options as advertised, but there are all you can eat cooked items like beef ribs! =O The orders came out lighting fast, unlike other all you can eat places. (I ordered 80 pieces at a time too.) The wait staff also comes around often to clear your empty plates, and refill your drinks. The sushi is as fresh as I can find it on the East Coast. (Not as fresh as in Hawaii.) Your options for the sushi are maki, nigiri, and sashimi styles. (That's cut rolls, sushi with rice, and just fish options.) Many all you can eat sushi places do not offer sashimi options. They have removed the Unagi sashimi option from their operational menu, though it's still written on their ordering sheet. The cuts of sashimi are not consistant and is not made with professional sushi techniques. Their Saba they use are extremely young, making for high quality, non-fishy sashimi morsels. Their White Tuna is actually Escobar (Which every sushi joint mis-labels on the East Coast). They do not enforce the USDA's 6oz limit recommendation on Escobar consumption, which is due to their laxative properties. The sashimi pieces are only 1/4-1/3 the typical size you encounter, but if you know it before hand, just order more. Their Chicken and Pork Katsu comes a bit dried from being frozen rather than being made fresh, however their Fish Katsu is quite tender and moist. Their beef ribs are tender, juicy and delicious; an unexpected delight. Being currently priced at $21.99 Mon-Thurs, and $23.99 Fri-Sun, is beyond fair for the amount of selection of food choices. Free Wi-Fi to help pass the time is also an additional plus. The hours posted for operation is loosely kept. Sometimes does not open till 2 or more hours past it's supposed opening time. This small all you can eat blows Sushi Palace in Edison far away by it's lightning fast service and cooked food selections, but my hope is that this undiscovered treasure remains just that. read more

Unfortunately, I have to say I am going to take stars away from my original review. One of the reasons is that I feel the quality of fish has gone down. I considered the fish here to be above average before, but it has lowered enough for me to notice. The hot food though is still on par from my previous visits. Also the service has been an issue the last few times I was here. The last 2 times I was there the server would forget things we asked multiple times. And the last thing I have to say is that when my group ordered dessert the last time we were there, we all got ice cream and when some people wanted more Red Bean ice cream the server said "we ran out" so people had to order another flavor of ice cream. As we were leaving the place, we walked by the freezer that contained the ice cream and what was inside? A LARGE CONTAINER OF RED BEAN ICE CREAM! .... When you first walk in, you're walking down an aisle and the area is an intimate space that has a hallway type feel. Tables are against the walls and chairs that seat up to 5 people are arranged in a tight space. I felt a little cramped, but otherwise I thought it seemed a little cozy. As soon as my friends and I were seated, a certain stench of B.O. was wafting towards my direction and I was unsure about whether it was the fish or the people around me. We came for the unlimited sushi and ordered our food by checking off items on †he menu. Its a set price so you could order as much as you want, but the trick is to order less so you don't have to have left overs and be charged for the extra food †hat you are unable †o finish. Overall, I liked the sushi because it was filling and tasty and the green tea ice cream shocks you with the taste of green tea and theres an after taste but it is still delicious and true to name.
