Been going here for many years and I can say that it hasn't changed much. The portion sizes for the kitchen menu at least as far as I've noticed have always been small but that's gonna be the norm at these made to order buffets anyways and all you need to do is order more if you want more. The kitchen food quality is better than I'd expect for food made to order so fast and there's never been any problems. The sushi is average and they tend to really load you up on the rice but that's expected. It tastes good, fills you up, and I've never gotten sick so that's good enough for me. Occasionally if we ordered a lot there has been dropped items but all you have to do is reorder, this has happened at all these kinds of places in my experience. I don't take it as being rude but just being cautious because of lot of people do waste food and some measures had to be taken against it including paying extra for it if it does happen. On the cons sometimes you need to flag down a waitress to get an order in or need something especially if it's very busy. As it got more popular it got a little louder and more festive in there too. A lot of people seem to like to have little parties and there so they catered to it I guess. Pop music the entire time a little to loud at that and multiple TV's on the walls. I liked it when it was more calm because it feels a little invasive for what that atmosphere should be. People are a little put-off by the idea of "all you can eat sushi" but I assure you, I've been coming here for years and will continue to do so! They also have all you can drink sake for $7.99. Overpriced and overstuffed rice on the sushi rolls. The staff is incredibly rude and talks about the customers who are eating in their native language. The kicker? I understood it all and told the table next to us everything they mentioned. They will never be returning and neither will I. Okay, so I've been coming here for the last 4 years & let me just say it's always a swing & a miss or a homerun. There were several times where the service was so bad that I swore I would never go back, but tbh who can beat all you can eat sushi for $20 & taste so good? Well anyway, I went yesterday & to my surprise it went well, compared to my previous experience where the server removed all of our (about 10 guests) utensils & plates before finishing. Sushi X and Sushi Palace are virtually the same in terms of set-up, price and menu. However, my preference goes to Sushi X. Why? When I submit an order for a menu item, it means "I want this/these items in these quantities". It does not mean bring me or don't bring me whatever the chef feels like supplying or is convenient for him. Sushi Palace makes these random changes, whereas Sushi X brings what you order. Winner - Sushi X When I make a reservation for 6.30pm, I would like to be seated within a reasonable amount of time, not be made to wait outside for 1 hour in mid-winter. the food is pretty good considering the all-you-can-eat option. the sashimi aren't the typical slices that I'm used to when ordering sashimi. they were more like chunk pieces. the rolls were made pretty well. big pieces with no too much rice and a solid amount in each piece. we ordered a bunch of the hot food from the kitchen and my favorite was the BBQ ribs. we also ordered the tempura and gypza which tastes like they were drenched on oil! I completely understand that these are deep fried foods but it was just way too greasy for my liking. I've had better in other places. the upside - pieces were huge! the staff was ok. the only person that seemed pleasant was the manager. the other waitresses just made us feel uncomfortable with their misery. so I took a star off because of it. other than that, the place is pretty solid for food. would definitely recommend it if you're not looking for anything fancy and will fill you up. read more

First time trying this place after hearing positive feedback about the food. Overall, food was mediocre could get this in many other ayce places and sushi had too much rice. They were charging 50 cents per rice not consumed! The service sucked horribly. They did not know I understood what they were talking about, and boy did they talk shit about the customers that come in. My friend and I had to forcefully consume couple pieces as they were going to charge $12 for 5 pieces left.. Really wth? The manager lady was so rude and she won't let us get away with it uneaten. It is very mediocre sushi. Fish is SO thin sliced to accommodate for the all-you-eat option. It also lacks looking fresh and clean. Good for people who are not too choosy and who like to eat huge quantities of sushi at a good price. I am too used to good sushi so I won't be back. read more

Located in a run-down mall, nothing attractive from the outside, looks like a classic take out joint. We decided to try this place, afterall, for a mere $18.99 weekday, it might give us surprise. Unfortunately, no surprise !! The inside is typical and average, clean but dull. It looks like a fast food place. The sushi bar items were medicore at best, sashima was OK, but fish slices on sushi were razor thin with big roll of rice. Rolls were made of hard cooked rice that totally destroyed the essence of different kinds of rolls. Kitchen items were much better but most of them were deep fried stuffs. Services were poor, cute and rush, maybe they were too busy running around... I tried Sushi Palace in Hamden and Sushi X in Stamford, both offered much better experiences than this one. Do yourself a favor, skip this one if you want Japanese food, spend a few dollars and get much better services and food in a regular Japanese rest. Take my advice: as far as food is concern, quality is far more important than quantity. read more

Went back last night. Dinner was great again! Even better this time since I ordered smarter and didn't get filled up with rice in the rolls. I stuck w/ loads and loads of spicy seaweed salad, sashimi and pepper tuna. Oh and they made a couple of the rolls w/o rice for me. Sooo good! The only thing that was untasty was the fried banana. It should be called slices of banana tempura...not great. Especially weird since they top them with a mountain of whipped cream and sprinkles and chocolate syrup. I don't know how anyone can think that combination of tastes and textures should go together. Food outstanding ! But my waitress was the polar opposite... I believe her name was "cookie" and wow was she rude. I asked her if they serve rice and she told me "NO" and stormed away while we asked the two other nice waitress and they replied with a simple and sweet yes. Lots of other things happen until I finally had to tell someone that she was really rude an I couldn't take it. We finally got another waitress but still "had" to tip the rude one. So watch out because I was really to going to sock her but that's not something I wanted to do while with friends and family. Other than that great place ! Must give it a try read more

UPDATED REVIEW: I'm disappointed that my go-to all-you-can-eat sushi spot is now pretty abysmal. The kitchen menu is still pretty decent, but I come here for the SUSHI. And as much as I can eat. Alas, since the change in management, it has only gone downhill in the last 2 times since I have visited. A while ago, a friend was actually told she could not order any more crab rangoons if she didn't eat the entire thing (she had eaten the filling and left some of the extraneous fried dough on her plate). During another recent visit, my dragon roll consisted of mostly cucumber - you had to look really closely to find any eel in the roll. Any roll with eel on it was mutilated, as if the chef didn't know how to slice eel properly. The serving staff also leaves much to be desired; they tend to rush you and not listen to you: "I'll keep my bowl for now.." as the waitress takes it away. There was also a fly in the ramen, but upon telling the waitress this fact, she acted like it was our fault they cooked a fly in their noodles. I never came to Sushi X expecting impeccable or authentic sushi, but now, the rolls are just pathetic and stingy. Sevice is rushed.Time to find another sushi spot. PREVIOUS REVIEW (WHEN RATED 4 STARS): For an All-You-Can-Eat sushi place, this one is my favorite in the southern CT area. Don't come expecting high-class, impeccable sushi - it's a sushi buffet, after all - but it will certainly fill your stomach! The sushi is decent, but what I absolutely love are the kitchen items, especially the BBQ squid. Decor is so-so, with a number of tables and cheesy/cheap Asian-ish decor. There are a couple TVs there, so no need to miss your game if you have a hankering for sushi at the same time. Service has vastly improved since I first came here. The downside is that 1) you don't know if all your order have actually come out yet (especially if you order a lot), as they just put all your sushi on a huge plate, and 2) you have to ask about dessert - it's not on the little slips of paper you write on. Great food, great value. You simply cannot go wrong here. AND, for anyone who has said that recent visits were not to par, definitely not true. I have been a patron of Sushi X for years and just visited last night ( a Friday) after about 8 months away and received the same excellent food and incredible service. I was greeted with smiles and warm hospitality by the same servers who have been waiting on us for years (especially the sisters, who treat us well every time ) And we have never been incorrectly charged - in fact, they only charge half price for kids up to 12 and our youngest who is 4 is always free, even though we would expect to pay by now. You can start with some items off the kitchen menu like edamame, udon noodle soups, tuna tartar, seaweed salad, crab rangoon, shumai, gyoza or tempura. Or, just skip right to the sushi, whether it be sashimi (which are small pieces, but hey, so order two for each one you would have before) like white tuna, salmon, mackerel, etc., regular sushi in all of the standard varieties, or the incredible special rolls. I've tried just about every one of these and all are excellent. Real crab in the spider rolls, the deep fried x roll, crazy girl, etc...not a bad one to be had. If you are a sushi snob, then sure, maybe you don't want to try an all you can eat place. If you want to sate your sushi habit with good sushi at more than reasonable prices, this is the place for you! read more

I was hesitant to try this place at first because of the "all you can eat" menu. In the past, all buffet style placed I have eaten at were not very good. Boy am I happy that I went here! We went early on when the sake was still free. I am guessing it was because they werent able to sell it yet. Now it is $6 for all you can drink sake as well. They still offer BYOB and I believe they charge $5 per person for whoever is drinking it. The food is excellent and fresh. The menu isnt too extensive but just enough for a sushi novice like myself. The portions on the menu can be small but it doesnt matter when you can order more than one. The staff has always been really nice there and the food comes out quick. We are going to book a birthday gathering there in the next couple weeks and cant wait! read more

I NEVER give bad reviews, ever, but this restaurant had the worst service ever. The food was good, that's why I gave it a star. The food didn't come for over an hour, people who were seated after us got all of their food even before we got served drinks! On top of that, a member of our party had to run out before food came. We told the waitstaff that because of their slow service, we were going to be short one person. The waitstaff said that was fine and would be taken off the bill. Fast forward 2 and a half hours later after we were served our bill came with an extra person on the menu. When we asked to talk to a manager, a man came over CLEARLY not the manager. He said the manager was busy, and because the man who left was served WATER, we would be charged the $26. Unbelievable. I'll never be back. read more

It's hard to compare the "all you can eat" sushi places in the area. Sushi Palace is great and so is Sushi X. It's exactly the same with a few extra bells and whistles on the menu. I think I prefer the atmosphere at the North Haven Sushi Palace the best, but I like the variety better here. More appetizers, a few better rolls (Sushi X Roll is excellent), and better desserts. Well worth the trip to try it and judge for yourself. It's nice to eat good sushi and not drop $50. read more

Sushi here is made to order (think Sushi Palace) - the designer rolls are delicious. And the secret everyone knows about but is not listed on the menu, all you can drink sake for $8! My experience here was just as the stars describe, Meh. Service wasn't the best. Our waitress spilled water all over the table and a little bit on my friend and didn't even bother to wipe it up. Our sushi order was wrong, we were missing some and had some other random ones we didn't order. When we tried to order a second round to get what we actually wanted, it took almost 30 minutes just for 2 more rolls to come. The menu was very extensive but the quality of food was just ok. Also, I don't know if it was the rice or the type of plates but all of the rolls were completely stuck to the plate so it was almost impossible to pick them up without them falling apart a little. I've definitely had better at other all you can eat places. There are so many cheap and yummy sushi places around that I don't think I will be going back anytime soon. read more

This place is incredible. They got so much sushi and its all unlimited for around 20 bones. Great miso soup as well.

I don't even know who my server was we had four different servers come up to us to serve us as we had to keep asking someone because we didn't know who our server was and if it was the original first girl who sat us who was originally hosting she wasn't very pleasant. But nothing can beat the fresh taste of the sushi and the great specialty rolls and please please please get the kani salad and the gyoza, its tasty. Say no to these high priced places like miyas. After expressing significant concern about one of the rolls, the chef came out and publicly humiliated us saying no other customers had this concern and that we were just complaining in order to not eat the roll. Keep in mind that we had consumed approximately 70 pieces of sushi among the four of us. Said if we did not finish the roll, we would have to pay per piece left over. Needless to say we will not be returning given the pure unprofessionalism exhibited by this establishment. read more
