This was my first visit to Sushi X and I thought it was great. For someone who wants something better than buffet-grade sushi, but definitely isn't a sushi snob, this place is perfect. $21.99 (weekend) for all-you-can-eat sushi and kitchen items. What I really like about the kitchen items is that they come in small servings. An order of crab won tons at a Chinese restaurant usually has 6 pieces. Sushi X serves just two at a time. I think that's a good idea since it reduces waste. If you don't finish all the food you order, they charge you the a la carte price for whatever is leftover. I can understand that since I'm sure sushi-grade fish isn't cheap and it keeps their prices down. My friend and I started off with the veggie spring rolls, baked mussels, and rock shrimp. All were hot and delicious. We then got the Fire Cracker roll, Butterfly roll, and the Winter roll. Neither one of us were impressed by the Butterfly roll (lobster, mango, cucumber, and avocado in a pink soybean wrapper drizzled with mango sauce). It had nothing to do with freshness or quality of the ingredients. The soybean wrapper and soft texture of every ingredient made it kind of boring and bland. The roll had lobster in it, but there was very little. The Firecracker roll was awesome - shrimp tempura inside with spicy crab outside. Winter roll was good too (can't remember what was in it). We ended with some more veggie spring rolls and some crab won tons, which were very good. The interior was clean and looked like any other mid-level Chinese or Japanese restaurant. Casual dress is just fine. The female waitstaff didn't seem friendly at all. Not rude or anything, just an "all business" demeanor. The male waitperson seemed friendly though. The only complaint I have is that the waitstaff are pretty slow. It seemed like a pretty long wait from the time we finished up the sushi until the time they came to get another order sheet from us. We waited awhile for the check also. Not a huge deal, but could be a problem if you need to get somewhere afterwards. I would absolutely go here again. read more

I have been going to Sushi X since they opened 2 years ago, it was decent while the current owners were present. Now that they are never there, the service and food suffer greatly. All the people I turned onto Sushi X have had similar experiences at Sushi X and have turned away to go to higher rated Sushi places.. The Sushi X manager is just down right rude to you and she will charge you $5 for rice you do not eat. Beware of a $5 charge on your bill. You will have to talk to the manager to remove the $5 from your bill.. Don't be surprised if they do not remove the $5, even if you don't eat rice or are watching your carb's.. They basically want you to fill up on the sticky rice and not eat the fish or shrimp you came there to eat.. Spend $20 more and go to a better rated Sushi destination, with good service and management staff that understands that happy customers, bring more happy customers. read more

Some of the most interesting sushi I've tasted. Their presentation is good and the staff is very friendly. A pretty good deal for all you can eat at $18.99 per person. The choices aren't limited to sushi, sashimi, and soups either. They also have noodles (which I wasn't a big fan of), other side dishes, and appetizers. Sushi is fresh, love the pepper tuna appetizer. All of the rolls are very good. My only complaint and it shows in my stars, is the service. They are extremely rude, I also do not like if you are a family or party of five they stick you with an automatic gratuity, this is normally done for larger parties. After trying other all you can eat places in Orange CT and Hamden CT, I decided to try West Haven CT Sushi X. I want to point out first that I went on a Friday night(arrived at 6:15pm right before the rush) one big plus of this place is the sushi grade fish was the best out of the surrounding towns for a all you can eat place. However there are a few things I would avoid trying on there all you can eat kitchen menu, first would be the kani salad, it was dry and had no seasoning what so ever tasted like it had been sitting out for a long time. Also the calamari was way to chewy. I did enjoy the endless tuna tartar, pepper tuna, and crab wontons that I had to keep ordering while waiting for my sushi.Now mind you I arrived at 6:15pm, it is now 7:51pm and I have only had one plate of sushi arrive. The service would be the downside of this restaurant, I hope more sushi rolls come soon, but the stack of papers mine is sitting under doesn't look like it's getting smaller anytime soon. Overall I'm giving it 4 stars because the food is self is fresh, but a 2.5-3.5 on service of the rolls. read more

i am definately a regular here. and sushi x has its bad days (very very few though) and its good days. Sushi x definately hit the spot today. The staff was really spot on. Food came out quick and we didn't really feel rushed (even though there was a huge party of 15 comin in after my party of 6 left). And its always ALWAYS nice that when you go to a place often enough, they consider you regulars and remember your food allergies (in my case avocado :-( ) but they still accomadte nicely by making rolls with avoiding said allergies read more

Went for the first time last night. 4 of us thought it was fabulous. We have been to Sushi Palace and loved that too but find it very crowded and cramped, Sushi X is spacious, the staff spoke understandable english and were helpful. We ordered several items from the kitchen menu and they all came out within minutes. Everything we ate was delicious. We will definitely be back soon and we drove an hour to get there. read more

I cannot say enough about this place. Being a frequent flyer among 'all you can eat' sushi restaurants, I must say Sushi X blows the others out of the water. I have brought a myriad of friends here (even ones who weren't sold on sushi in the first place) and they all raved about it and returned for more. The pepper tuna is an absolute must.. Thin, succulent and drizzled with spicy aioli type sauce that makes it to die for. The cost of this at a regular restaurant would probably be around forty dollars for the amount that you can order here. The special rolls are also amazing, which cost about fifteen dollars at any other Asian restaurant and taste just as great if not better. The only downside to Sushi X is that you might be in a food coma afterwards and not be able to drive home. read more

This is my favorite all you can order and eat sushi restaurant, it's always a treat to go here. There is a very wide variety of sushi and it is very good quality overall. Be sure to fill up on all of those large special rolls too as there is so many tasty rolls to choose from. The kitchen menu has very good food also, I recommend the beef ribs and bbq squid from it the most. The fried foods are very good too. The place is very large, clean, and can seat a lot of people but be aware when there is a lot of people eating there service will be slower, especially when it comes to getting your sushi. So your best bet is to order a large amount all at once from both menus if you come in with some very hungry people. read more

It is all you can eat sushi. Are you each going to eat $22 worth (or $25 on weekends) of sushi, Japanese appetizers, and a bowl of ice cream? In my youth I would have, now I may have to reconsider. I might still come back, because it is all fresh, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the service is good. Nothing too exotic -- no oshinko -- but plenty of combinations involving mango, peanut, and avocado, and all the usual roe, tuna, salmon, and eel. A little disappointed that the shumai, gyoza, and tofu teriyaki were so deeply fried. Some places prepare those steamed, and we didn't realize these wouldn't be, at least if we didn't ask. Rock shrimp turns out to be like salt-and-pepper shrimp, with a lot of fried breading. Which gets to the AYCE aspect -- I don't know how much "Nope" you can get away with, but if you're game to try something unknown the checklist system encourages risking only calories to find out. (One of our party isn't keen on deep fried, but the other doesn't care, so there was nothing left over.) read more

Its a shame that a business to this level of food quality lost my business tonight. Its very simple, customer service 101. Im a loyal customer for 10 years min, who's also brought extensive clientele and they disrespected and embarrassed me. Why, because I ordered a kitchen app and ate only the meat/protein and left the carbs. When the waitress asked me if I was done, I replied yes. Her response was absurd. "Your not done there is a Bao left (filled steamed bread). I could not believe as an adult and loyal customer she actually tried forcing me to try to finish the App when I am reducing my carb intake. I immediately asked for the manager who was more professional, but asked me to amend my request by requesting no Bao. I replied that the menu was vague displaying "Peking Duck" not "Pecking Duck Bao". He was a bit more professional but lacked the ability to apologize because of his rationalization of the issue. My fiance and I decided to give this place a shot even though were both regulars at sushi palace. Now heres the rundown for Sushi X vs Sushi Palace.. Pro's Sushi X wins hands down with parking as well as seating Sushi X wins with the Kitchen menu (the short ribs were great) Also, their customer servie is far superior.. Con's I found myself to feel a little sick after eating this sushi and to be honest I found it to be a chore just to finish, we both left with a very unsatisfied feeling of regret to have even tried it. If I could give this horrific business less stars I would. After having a decent meal with friends we ask for the check and the next thing we know the server is at our table yelling at us about how we "must finish" "there's people starving and we can't waste his food". To be completely honest yes we may have order half a roll too much but by no means did we order an excessive amount of food and not touch it. We then got screamed at even louder and when we tried to get up and leave (while leaving cash on the table) we were told we weren't allowed too until our plate were cleared. Will never go back! I honestly did not even want to give them a star. Very disappointed. I have eaten there before and for a buffet and the price it was good an the place was always packed. We got seated immediately because it was empty, I was kind of surprised because they are usually full. We were ask if we would like something to drink and we requested water. While we browse through the selection, she came back and ask us again if we would like something to drink. Okay maybe she did not understand my English. She gave us our water and we handed her the paper. Salad, edamame, spicy seaweed salad and 3 rolls. She then took the pen and put it on the plate. My first thought was why would she put the pen on the plate that I am going to eat out of. Ugh! Can you imagine how many people touched that pen. After waiting awhile. Not sure why the place was empty. The waitress came threw the salads and the edamame on the table. The seaweed salad was like a teaspoon serving with some other filler. The iceberg lettuce had an orange dressing that looked like someone's vomit and the edamame were overcooked almost looked like if it was leftovers. In addition they never gave us a plate to put the edamame pods in. We finally get our sushi!!! Lord someone tell me why there was barely any tuna it had more rice and paper than anything else the avocado was nasty looking to the point that I was totally disgusted could not eat anymore. We waited for the waitress to come back around never ask us if everything was okay we finally flagged her down and ask for our bill. She indicated that according to their policy we left too many pieces on the plate and they were going to have to charge me extra. She then points to their "terms and conditions". I ask if I can take it to go she stated she would charge me extra. She then stated I had to eat it!!! WHAT!!! I repeated it back. "I have to eat it?" She said "YES" I felt like I was in grade school and I was being force to eat my vegetables! I then told her that I did not even like it and it was nasty. She said that she would have to charge my a la carte pricing. I told her to charge me the a la carte because no one was going to force me to eat something that I did not like. She went to manager and he ask what was the problem I said nothing, did not like the food. They never asked why and then kept offering us ice cream!!! Then he apologies they were not that sorry if they still charged me the a la carte pricing. I PAID MORE TO AVOID EATING! Needless to say I would never go back. Okay we went here today and the service was so bad the girls there were watching us eat the whole time and made us uncomfortable. One of the waitresses even scratched her butt in front of us and acted as if we didn't just see her scratching. I've been going to Sushi Palace for quite a while now and decided to try Sushi X because of the same frustrations voiced about SP below. Overall, Sushi X has some pros and is great if you're looking to get drunk, but Sushi Palace is the better choice for all-you-can-eat, especially if you're a sashimi fan. Pros: - Faster seating than SP - All you can drink hot sake for $7 per person - Much better dessert selection than SP (green tea ice cream, fried banana are both great) - Friendlier wait staff (but not more efficient) - More spacious than SP, although your neighbors will still listen to your conversations - Large parking lot Cons: - Quality of sashimi is not as good as SP, and the pieces were tiny. Flavors were blunted and watered down. Pork in the tonkatsu was paper-thin and mostly just breading. Rolls were just as good though. - *They will eventually not fill your orders. My experiences going to SP (10+ times) is that they will truncate your order or may even lie and say they lost it if you have a HUGE order. If you put in smaller, more reasonable orders they will generally fill it. I went to SX with just one other guy, and we put in several small orders. We never wasted any food, but after a while they started to bring out less than requested and even left items off our orders entirely, multiple times. - Food does not come out any faster than SP. Just as crowded as SP (on Saturday) with the same number of chefs, so the wait times for us were about the same. Additionally, kitchen items are slower to come out than SP. People may not realize this b/c of the extra space. - Ambiance - some people complain about SP being too packed and loud, but I prefer it over the sterile, more quiet environment of SX. I guess this is entirely personal preference. In the end, if you are craving all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink at a reasonable price, Sushi X does an adequate job and is worth checking out, but the quality is not as good as Sushi Palace. You will not escape the frustrations of Sushi Palace aside from getting seated quickly and ample parking. Even if you have to drive a little longer, I'd go with Sushi Palace. read more

There's nothing like fresh sushi and appetizers that aren't frozen! If thats what you are looking for Sushi X is not the place for you. While it is all you can eat sushi for relatively inexpensive you truly get what you paid for. Frozen appetizers some drenched in sweet sauces and mediocre cuts of semi -fresh fish. They do have an all you can drink white saki for $6.99 which was a bargain for the buzz. Make sure you drink enough water to beat out the next mornings headache. All and all if you like fresh fish I would not recommend Sushi X! read more

This place was so disappointing...we of course get there STARVING and it was about 8:00 we got rushed to sit down and before we even sat down she asked us what we wanted to drink...i wanted a glass of wine but didnt have time to decide right off the bat so i ordered a diet coke for myself and my boyfriend...we then picked our sushi and kitchen orders and the girl took them from us and then i ordered a wine...after some time talking we realized people whom arrived after us were receiving orders and we didnt even get our app not even a edamame i mean come on how long does it take for that! Ordered my meal got a plate of raw short ribs and over fried rock hard shrimp. Got my sushi which was supermarket quality. I summoned the waitress and told her about the issues. She mumbled ok wait and left. I asked for the check and the manager said I would have to pay extra for the uneaten inedible portions. I explained to him the circumstances as above. He said no you left them because you ordered too much. Kinda funny for the first two plates we ordered and received. I argued with the manager who told us to leave and not come back. We left..feeling bad I came back and left a twenty dollar tip for the server. Which I am sure she never received . The next day police showed up at my door to collect the bill of which my grandson was the only one home. So he paid the balance of the bill. Which I never would have done. read more

Came here last Friday night after about a year and a half of not coming. Our last time here it took about an hour for a roll to come out and we couldn't wait any longer so we paid our check. As were leaving they brought the roll out. We said we were leaving because it had taken too long and we would take it to go but they said no so we left. Anyways, last Friday we order several dishes from the kitchen and the chicken teriyaki was very good. We ordered a large amount of the pepper salmon sashimi and it was very spicy. Much spicier then I remembered. Our rolls were good. Service was ok. I felt like everytime I was spoken to I was being yelled at. Some friends that were with us had their 5 year old son with them. He had eaten before we got to sushi x so we didn't order for him. He did have a small plate with one piece of a sushi roll and one piece of chicken to try and the waitress came over and yelled that he could not eat anything. He literally was eating 2 bites of food. You really can't expect him to pay $22 for sushi when he is only having a few bites. I probably won't be back and will continue to go to sushi palace in Orange. Much better service. read more

Went to Sushi X last weekend since Aya is now under new management. Have to say it was ok but we really liked Ayas food better. Inside of Sushi X is nice,waitstaff is great. Found some of the sauces way on the salty side especially the soy sauce and Katsu sauce. chicken katsu and chicken terryaki portions were on the large side just too much not delicate.Gyoza dumplings deep fried instead of pan fried.Specialty rolls .just ok no real flavor,sashimi ok the few pieces I tried. Liked that dessert was included in the all you can eat. Going to keep searching for a better place.Gave it two stars because the service was good. read more
