I'm not a sushi expert, but my co-workers took me here to have sushi for the first time. I enjoyed the atmosphere and a great variety of sushi to choose from. We always choose the all you can eat lunch and we share 2 or 3 platters of rolls between the 4 of us. My guess is I eat 2 1/2 rolls by myself and lunch comes to $16. I couldn't tell you if that's a good price or not, but I leave full. My advice is bring friends, bring your appetite, enjoy a sociable lunch! read more

I won't be going back. We were here a few weeks ago and I just wasn't impressed. There was no curbside appeal, nothing welcoming about the inside (or their staff) and the food wasn't that good. This is also the first time EVER I've felt like I might've had old fish. I've never had a roll that I absolutely didn't like or couldn't finish, except the one here. This is one of the very few sushi choices in the Layton area. They offer all you can eat sushi, which was about 5/10, but what was really disappointing was the fact that they put an absurd amount of rice on everything, so you're literally filled from one roll due to the amount of rice. read more

CUSTOMERS BEWARE: This place is the BEST If you just want to eat RICE!....... If you want to eat SUSHI go to Simply sushi! (in SLC) (Yes I've been to both) Let me tell you a few things.... My BACKGROUND: I am a social eater as in I like to eat and lots. Not just that I eat a a lot of different places around the world. I've even traveled to Asia time and time again and traveled from east coast to the west coast (literally) here in the USA. I eat sushi a lot from low to high end and I can compare this with others. I've eaten a lot of sushi places from The SERVICE: Its a hit and miss with good/bad service. The lady (possibly worked there a while) we had wasn't very nice and looked/sounded irritable there were others who came in-between were very nice (only worked there a few months or so (I asked) and even tried to help sooth my children when water spilt on them. We came during a non rush time (2pm, after the lunch rush). Some of the waitresses needed to slap a smile on their face really most of them needed it. I am generally a friendly happy guy, but there needed to be some serious help there. The first main waitress (probably with the most experience) kept telling me (sounded irritated and angry) that I had to make sure I eat all the rice, all the rice, all the rice.... probably because i ordered a good portion like I always do when I've gone to these sort of places but this is the first time they have told me that really. No wonder they did they fed me RICE not sushi! I really should of had returned and left but coming it late in for the day my party/group was hungry. So we continued. All in all, yes the other reviews were right about bad service, and hopfully with their new hires the old ones will leave and the new ones (who I thought were very helpful, considerate, and nice) would move up and take over. maybe later the serivice will fix itself, check back later if you live close. The SUSHI: Yes they have Eel, yes they have tempura as a side dish. They make it look nice but once the plate came out you can tell they over riced those suckers. they tripled the amount of rice its supposed to have so they look like sushi on rice STEROIDS. Maybe they put chemicals in them, I don't know but I have an upset stomach with whatever they put in the rice and fish. (we ordered a variety of things and have in the past). We ordered both styles of sushi from their menu. both of which tasted bland/tasteless (yes even with soy-sauce, ginger and anything else they tried to add). The rice had a funny taste to it (i've eaten rice a lot). the meat/fish was ok. Maybe the bar where they make it in front of you is better. The PRICE: $15 for lunch and over $20 for dinner. Other THOUGHTS: Some may say that this is the best in town, don't go, not worth it. I recommend taking a little more time in driving and going to some in SLC. Yes not all are are great but better than this. This has been the worst sushi place even for a buffet i've been to IN MY LIFE. And I've eaten at a lot of places. Sure there are worse i'm sure but at least take this warning and take your money and spend it at a better location, with better food, service, and time. I wish I can get my money back but i'm not that sort of person but this experience allots and needs to be given this review.... BY THE WAY: Yes one member of our party was playing POKEMONGO there are pokestops nearby (yes PokemonGo the app). Buckle in, kids; this may be a long one. I started today by planning on a lunch in Logan, which didn't work out, so I then thought of a couple places in Ogden, one of which I actually went to, but turned out to be something other than what I had in mind, so, remembering the sign along I-15 and thinking it had been a while since I had some Crystal Shrimp sushi and wanting to see if the "magic" of my visits in Orem held up over time or were just me with some rose-colored Decepticon-implanted memories, I hit this place up instead of Koi, which is in the same parking lot. Inside is fairly new and spacious. Beyond myself and servers, there was only one other table. Perfect. Now let's get us to hoggin' down on some sushi, yes? Well...sort of. The guy handed me this piece of paper and a menu, along with a pen. So I marked off what I wanted and then he explained how the pricing structure worked. By now, I had noticed their somewhat "heavy-handed" house rules, which are [Biblical phrasing mine -ed.] as follows: 1) Thou mustest finisheth all thy rice (or perish ye). [To be frank, the fish I had was not worth extracting from the rolls and would have made poor-at-best sashimi. -ed.] 2) Thou shalt NOT share, mortal!* * = unless another person also has AYCE. 3) Items are serveth as-iseth on thine menu. (This was false. I modified.) 4) Additional FEES will be leveled against thy head for wastething. [No idea what those were and though I was tempted to find out, I forgot by the end. -ed.] 5) We reserve the right for all restrictions. [Apparently, it's all they decide you are going to eat, rather than all you CAN eat. -ed.] 6) No take-out containers for AYCE orders. Now, I have some reservations about this sort of Draconian nonsense about wasting food. In my mind, the restaurant and I are making a pact. I'm spending money and buying items and they are giving them to me and after that they are mine and I can stuff them in my trousers if I want. This place seems to be more saying, "hey guy shoving sushi down your pants over there, someone has to serve this and it might be all you can eat, but it's not a buffet." The problem came up more than once during the course of this meal, as a couple rolls were dubious enough that I would have stopped eating them and rejected them in favor of something else, were I inclined for any sort of fight over their stupid policy. So, basically, they can just sling whatever tailings and other crap happen to be hanging around the kitchen and expect patrons to pay for it. Nice scam. Right, whatever. So after a misstep with ordering (I wound up with AYCE for $14.95), I got a couple nigiris and an initial 3 rolls, including the Crystal Shrimp. Kay has outlined most of what is wrong with this, but just to recap, my nigiri rice was actually dry. Of that initial order, none of that initial order, including the shrimp nigiri (!) was edible without a slice of ginger on top and a soy sauce bath, excepting the Crystal Shrimp roll, which was not anywhere near as awesome as I remembered it, but probably the best roll any of the cheap places does. It was by far the best thing I was served today, though they got a little crazy with the sweet sauce. I also ordered an additional crab (make mine, Krab, I guess), which was also somewhat nasty. Not as much as the Rainbow roll, which bordered on hideous. They also use extract to step on their spicy tuna, so word to the wise there. Rice was also a bit underdone on the rolls, but I've had worse. I finally got around to the green tea towards the end, the taste of which I shall describe as "foot-ish." Disgusting. As nice as the servers were and as much as I wanted to rate this higher, I cannot in good conscious give this more than the 2 stars I'm giving it. Of 4 rolls and 2 nigiri orders, I would order exactly one thing ever again (Crystal Shrimp, though they didn't do it near as well as Orem) and even though I was far from full, I threw in the sponge and gave up on ordering more rolls, as it just was not worth slogging through further. read more

As another reviewer said, it.was pretty good when it first opened, but it has been downhill ever since. A group from work has gone there for lunch maybe once a month since it opened, but everything has declined so badly over the last 6 months... Especially the service! It's become impossible to get much more than a single order in during a normal lunch hour, maybe their way of saving money on all-you-can-eat. That plus the increased rice and decreased quality and consistency (why did that 2nd order Godzilla roll taste so different than the first?), has shrunk the group and the desire. I went there with my cousin who was in town and was looking for all you can eat sushi. This is the only place in the area that we could find so we tried it. I will never go back again. The amount of rice used on the rolls and nigiri is outrageous. They are obviously trying to fill people up on cheap rice so that they can save some money. I only gave them one star, only because their miso was very flavorful. Everything else was awful! The service was horrible. Kelly wasn't friendly. She didn't and wouldn't smile. She didn't really explain herself when describing the menu. The sushi was flavorless, almost rubbery. I went here with my co-workers for lunch. I enjoy sushi and They says that this place is great. I will never go to this place again. I can't understand why people have given these people more than a star and thinks their sushi is great. I love Sushi Ya! I have never been disappointed in the rolls we ordered! They have all been fresh and flavorful. You just can't beat the price! $20 for all you can eat sushi! I easily spend over $40 for one person at other places for the same quality and far less sushi! Yes, the service is extremely slow...but think about it. It's a tactic! As an Asian I had sushi many times and many places in California in the last many years. I now tell you all this is the worst place for sushi I ever had. I came to try sushi at this place since I'm new in the area, I first thought the price is good for all you can eat ($23-$25 before tax per person) but quality and service are terrible . Each piece of sushi is consisted of 90% of rice, 5% of cucumber or little things, and tiny tiny piece of fish. I ordered some pieces with crab and scallops but they brought out just imitation craps that I didn't touch. I don't come here pay that much and fill my stomach with rice and imitation stuff. I am really disappointed. I believe this place is owned by Chinese. Like Hibachi buffet, the names sound like Japanese owned but actually owned and operated by Chinese. Previously ate at the Sushi Ya in SLC and it was pretty good. This one however was bad. Really bad. The place wasn't that clean but it wasn't gross either. We were there with several friends and ordered multiple rolls to share. Most of the rolls were not good though there was one that was pretty tasty. Most were dry and the rice and fish didn't seem fresh at all. Some of the rolls had a really fishy taste (tasted like a river smells). that night everyone in our party, with the exception of two people, got sick with stomach problems, No reason to go here again. read more

I have been here twice for all-you-can-eat sushi and my experience has been so so. The ingredients seem fresh but a lot of the rolls have bland flavors and they piled on the rice like crazy (you are required to eat all of the rice before you can get more rolls). Sushi Ya has always been a great place to go for good All You Can Eat Sushi. While $20 may seem a little expensive, my friends and I usually eat almost double what that is worth in sushi. While it may not be out-of-this-world amazing quality sushi, I have never actually been disappointed in any of the rolls and that coupled with the great customer service, friendly staff, and fun environment definitely brings the group coming back regularly. read more

This is me and my husband's go to Sushi place because not not only is it good sushi but we can pretty much get whatever we want without thinking about the price of each piece because we get the all you can eat. We can usually get 6 or 7 rolls and a couple of nigeri between the two of us. The place is clean, nice, and the wait isn't too long. Don't expect more from an AYCE place. The nigiri isn't fresh and they use way too much rice for their sushi. I understand that they don't want to waste fish but it's not about quantity, as it is quality which here is very poor. The one roll I found average at best ( out of 7 rolls my friend and I ordered) was the Rocky Mountain roll. You can tell the fish isn't as fresh as other places like Takashi and Naked fish,but like I said you're paying for average sushi. The cream cheese also taste stale which makes the sushi overall even worse. I wouldn't recommend coming here . Pay a little more for better quality. read more

Went out with some friends the other night and I have to say they've greatly improved their quality compared to the last time I went (which was two years ago)! I was shocked at how good everything was and how nice the rice and fish proportions were. The only downside would probably be the service, not very friendly or attentive in our orders but at least kept our water filled. read more

The menu is pretty large and what I really appreciate about this place is they don't pack on the rolls. After the meal, this could honestly stand up to some non AYCE places. I'm usually pretty fair with my reviews however this place let me down on my last visit. They're fairly expensive for the choices they have to offer and the staff is very unusual. Out server hopped around and acted goofy when not at our table and one of the other servers who dropped off our food acted very unprofessional. It was an odd experience to have when you spend that kind of money as we had a party of six. The food was okay, their rolls come with a mountain of rice topped with little fish and didn't seem to be very fresh. They also take a very long time to bring your food in hopes you'll drink they water they're practically pouring in your mouth in hopes to fill you up. Worst sushi I have ever had! Nothing was fresh and it was poorly made. The "so called chef" did not know what he was doing and just wanted to chat with us instead of serving us. It was a very slow night for them, yet it took him 15 minutes to make 2 simple rolls. There was only one other small group in the place. My friend and I were this guy's only customers. They closed early and we were not able to finish our dinner. It is all you can eat Sushi, but they will talk your ear off and bore you to death rather than serve you. I tried to go to the restroom and the cleaning lady saw me but made me wait so she could clean it. I have never seen people close a restaurant so fast in my life.
