Time spent in Japan I grew to love a comforting bowl of Katsudon and thrilled to see it on the menu. Sadly my taste buds and desire to reminisce were met with disappointment by an overcooked dish leaving everything dry and slightly charred to the taste. Even the pan fried gyoza had the same slightly charred appearance and flavor adding to the dismay of them likely being pulled from the freezer. Came with Miso soup, and I chose the two option box with teriyaki chicken and shrimp tempura, both really good. Came in On a Friday night. Place was very busy. Staff said 20 min wait. They cleared some tables and some people left and in less than 10 min we were seated. Great menu with so many favs and some that were new. We had 5 of us and some kids. We ordered and food started coming in. We all enjoyed are meals. I like the vibe of this place. Once we walked-in, we were greeted, sat down, and our waitress introduced herself. She was kind and would constantly check on us. With good reviews I had high hopes. Ordered a chirashi bowl to go. Friendly service and was ready when I got there. The bowl contained 5 varieties of fish on top of rice with lemon slices, lime slices, cucumber slices, and avocado. The good: plenty of fish, however no consistency on size of slices. Felt like good value for amount of fish. The bad: -Barely any avocado, 4 pencil thin slices. I had to put more avocado on at home. The lime, lemon, & cucumber slices were thicker. -There was no variety of other toppings such as roe or seaweed salad. -The absolute worst was the rice and this should be the star. It was over seasoned with rice vinegar that it was almost inedible. I am concerned with how it affects their rolls etc. If a chirashi bowl doesn't impress me, I probably won't be back. read more

My dinner choices is different tonight due to there not being bento boxes on Fridays. However, I'm glad because I wouldn't have tried my choices tonight. For my Sashimi bowl I was able to get some eel sauce and it just made it taste more complex. There was mango, thin slices of lemon, Avocado and an edible flower that just added to the experience. The crepe cake was surprisingly tender, the strawberry sauce was actually a little boozy I absolutely loved it and it wasn't too sweet either. It's a must order to try. Definitely a new favorite sushi place! I've eaten in and ordered to-go, and both had prompt and friendly service. The Summer Fling roll is fantastic- the escolar and salmon blend so well with kiwi and mango! And definitely try the chirashi bowl- it's the best I've had in the Salt Lake area. I love that Nikko also has plenty of menu items for people who aren't so enthusiastic about sushi- this makes their restaurant more accessible. And the spicy garlic edamame is addictive! What first stood out to us at Nikko since we were last here during Covid is that the entrees and sushi seem a little more attractively plated. While a Yelp event brought us back, we ordered several items to take in more of the state of things. The two Miso Glazed Salmon medallion-steaks, while not quite as medium-rare as I'd prefer, were still crispy-skinned and the creamy miso-oregano sauce is to die for. Simple yet packed with umami and delicious flavor like a Japanese take on beer-cheese sauce. Amazing on the sautéed veg! Yakisoba was a little sweeter than we're used to, but it was a delicious flavor and good texture on the shrimp and firm-flesh whitefish. Love the pretty dinner salad that comes as a choice with the entrees... but again that creamy miso-oregano sauce is suberashii (super)! Sushi no longer is sold with the popular BOGO50% like has been common in the area. Crab salad nigiri were average -- not nearly as good as a piece of crab leg draped over a nigiri rice cake -- but the Flamingo Roll of tempura shrimp, avocado, cucumber and leaf lettuce, wrapped in pretty pink soy paper and sweet sauce was just as summery and refreshing as we hoped. Yet again the thought of that awesome creamy miso sauce covered up the average crab salad to still make this a 5-star visit for us. Finished with the flavorful and lovely-texture of Mochi Ice Cream. Let it warm a bit to gelato-like texture and it's even better. We wish they wouldn't have been out of stock on the red bean or green tea flavors, yet again the memory of that creamy sauce ignites my enthusiasm even more! Kudos to the new owner Ms Tran for being active in promoting Nikko thru local ads, Chamber events, and Yelp. Service was very friendly too. The menu prices are still a touch high, though a fair value, keeping this in our minds a really nice option for an occasional visit. Yet again that sauce! That wonderful miso sauce! It even smoothed over the performance of their music system noticeably dropping in and out of service thruout dinner. Nikko Sushi and Ramen is a gem. Tonight we started with the Jalapeño Bomb appetizer. It's one of the best things I've ever eaten! I mean, tempura fried jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese and crab. It's topped off with a delicious sauce, tobiko and sliced scallion. It is so darn good! I could make a meal out of it! We had a Tiger roll with tempura shrimp, cream cheese and tobiko again! Tasty! The seafood in the yakisoba was cooked perfectly, so tender. The sauce is a little on the sweet side. Next time, I'll ask for some chili flakes on the side to give it some contrast for the sweetness. As part of a long term ongoing ramen quest, I stopped into Nikki Sushi and Ramen, my second visit to this Kaysville Japanese influenced restaurant. The ownership appears to have changed with little influence on the quality or interior decor. The staff was attentive and pleasant during the entire lunch. I ordered green tea, Tonkotsu Ramen and as an extra sampler, an order of unagi nigiri sushi, which I've had a hard time finding lately. The tea was a bit tepid and could have used hotter water before its serving. The Ramen was quite good, with a nice flavorful broth over the properly cooked noodles. The egg which accompanied the dish was still soft in the yolk, as it should be and a small piece of nori seaweed was placed on the inside edge of the bowl. The only item in the ramen that I didn't think was up to par were the charsu pork slices. They tasted a bit old and were not very tender. Overall I'd give the ramen a 3.5 star rating which due to the pork. Everything else in the bowl was well balanced and tasty. The unagi sushi was fresh and delicious. I ate one piece as "the perfect bite" without any ginger or wasabi, while on the second I used the wasabi and ginger. They both were of fine quality and had a great authentic flavor, unlike some of the fake wasabi that I've increasingly found at some sushi places. It seems that the sushi chef is skilled and produces a quality product, as I also found on my first visit here. I'll definitely be back for more of Nikko's sushi and maybe some of their ramen too. Hopefully they will make some upgrades on the ramen side of their menu so the ramen matches the quality of their sushi. read more

I'm always nervous to try new sushi places, but Nikko's did not disappoint. We came on a Friday night and the place was pretty empty - hopefully business picks up because the food was good and prices were very fair! We started with the spicy edamame which - WHOAH - it was actually super spicy. My tongue was going numb. I'm normally a medium spicy type of gal, but this was more on the hot level. I'd still reorder though. For entrees we got the chicken donburi and pork tonkatsu ramen. Both were good, but the donburi was probably the winner. The tempura sauce and veggies were incredible!! For rolls we ordered the dynamite and the Mesa. The Mesa was much better and we were a huge fan of it. We liked the dynamite, but it left a little to be desired. It wasn't very flavorful and fell short for a specialty roll. However, both rolls were only $9-11 each. Next time we'd skip the dynamite and try something else though. We got two entrees, two rolls, and edamame for $50 including tax. That's not bad for a sushi date! And we even had to take leftovers from our entrees because the portions were so big! Typically, it would be a while as in months after months later to establish a well to do taste of the town. Kaysville and surrounding suburbia here have no clue what authentic food taste like so they may not know. However, Nikko, within their short amount of time here has already peaked my interest for months to come. Here's why? I ordered the KATSUDON to go as I did not venture there to dine in but simply to visit and leave; sometimes that doesn't always work out as quickly as I thought--I ended up ordering something to go. Now, this is a cutlery chicken mixed with a layer of eggs caked on top served over rice with the infamous KATSU sauce. The verdict is: served in a ToGo box, it didn't matter because the chicken was very tender and the sauce JUST RIGHT in taste and quality. I regret not asking my beautiful waitress who the chef was. We come here a lot and it's a great deal for a couple on date night! Their sashimi and nigiri is SO FRESH and that's what we keep coming back for. I've ordered to go three times now and really have enjoyed everything with one little problem. Things tend to be to salty. I have to say that I eat at restaurants a lot and I rarely find anything to be over salted so it's not like I'm super sensitive. My husband even thought it was to salty. It wasn't so salty that we couldn't eat it but it was definitely the predominant taste. To bad too because the veggies were cooked just right, soft but not overcooked. The salmon is also really good and the tempura veg is YUM! I've tried three times just to see if it was a one time thing but each time it's the same. I will try again and ask them if they can use a bit less salt. I don't want bland, salt free food either tho so we'll see how it goes. The sushi is quite good!! Of course it isn't salty, just delicious! It's great to have this little gem in Kaysville. I need a sushi source close to home so if we order nothing else I will continue to go here. read more

I really wanted to love this place. Our go-to is Tona sushi on 25th in Ogden, but they were fully booked so we decided to give Nikko a try. The waiter was great! 5 stars for that guy! Sadly, the sushi, while looking pretty good (see included photos) just doesn't quite cut it. The flavors just aren't quite there. It's by no means "bad" sushi, I'd just say it's average and it's probably exactly what you might expect from strip-mall sushi. The service was great, the restaurant decor is simple / functional, tables n chairs with a couple of booth options. But the sushi, the reason for going, was a solid 3/5 stars. We ordered: Starters: Gyoza (straight out the box, not homemade by any stretch), prawnz (very tasty!). Entree/Rolls: Playboy, Rockstar, Dynamite (see photos) and Pork Tonkatsu Ramen. The ramen broth, while a little fishy smelling, was pretty tasty, the pork was a little overcooked, but the crab slices , egg etc were all good. Just the right amount of black garlic oil too. Had sushi with friends. The reason why I put 3 stars is tempura is not deep fried. French Fries are deep fried. Tempura is a batter that is covered and in a light burning deep fried. The Las Vegas Rolls ( my all time favorite) are not tempura at this location , which sucks! California Rolls we're 80% rice. Spicy Tuna was not good flavor Albacore was dry I get it, I'm in Utah visiting and I hold any sushi restaurant to So.Cal sushi where I live. But at least be somewhat similar.
