Ordered through Doordash around 10pm and got our order just after 11pm. A little late, at no fault of the restaurant but the food was delicious so we couldn't even be mad. I loved the sushiya roll, which was two kinds of fish and shrimp tempura wrapped in soy paper. The escolar sushi was also bomb, super soft and fresh, which trust me, I would normally be a skeptic given my high standards for sushi. Bf loved his ichiban and golden spicy tuna rolls. I was impressed with the packaging for take out too. Only a star off because they didn't include any of the extra stuff bf wanted on the side (sliced jalapeños, ponzu sauce). read more

I have been coming here for years now, and hands down this is the BEST SUSHI RESTAURANT in Pasadena!!! Super fresh seafood and ingredients, and every bite is worth it. My favorite items are heart attack and the delicious rolls, which come in different ingredients, toppings, and sauces. I want to say that the best part about this restaurant is the amazing owner and staff, who not only put extra care to master delicious cooking, but also pours generosity and delight in customer service. 100/100!!! I feel so lucky that this restaurant is around here. Highly recommend! read more

Ordered from here on Postmates tonight but my driver canceled due to the merchant taking longer than expected. My bf was so bummed out that there wasn't any sushi to order in the area so we decided to reorder again thru Postmates to pick up. Our pick up was for 11:25 and we got there at 11:20 and the first thing I did was check to see if my hot food was the same food I had ordered 40 mins before and sure enough IT WAS! My tempura was SOGGY as soon as I arrived. My edamame was like warm, and the avocado in the spicy tuna roll was already turning brown. I thought it was weird that my order said it was ready rather quickly and When I arrived the chef was on his phone and it was empty so why couldn't they have made me new food? read more

I tried to eat more than half of each thing I ordered and each one of these items tasted nasty in there own way! The muscles are flavorless and simmering in a bunch of juice just tasted awful. The California roll simplest item I make it ten times better the rice has all the wrong flavors and the crab doesn't taste like anything. The heart attack were just nasty the tuna wasn't good flavorless all I tasted was tempura batter. Same goes for the golden spicy tuna roll not spicy and no flavor. I wish I had those $40 dollars I spent to get my self something else! Terrible terrible terrible.one more thing As soon as I opened the bag a fly came out how the hell does that happen!!! read more

I come to this place regularly. The sushi is always fresh, they have great lunch combos and even $25 all-you-can-eat if you're really hungry! I recommend the sushiya roll! It's my favorite here and I ALWAYS get it. It has shrimp tempura, tuna, salmon, avocado and crab, topped with a sweet sauce. The tempura is wonderful as well, light and crispy. The lunch/dinner combos are also a steal though, you can choose a meat and up to 2 or 3 sides that come with salad, miso soup and rice. It's very very filling and very worth the price. But you can't go wrong with most of the things on the menu, especially if you're looking for fresh fish! It seems to be a family-run restaurant and the staff is friendly. Park in the plaza lot! There usually are many spaces available because there isn't much else in that plaza. read more

Family owned and operated (Korean?). Above average quality. Below average prices. Customer service is very Spanish-European style... Meaning they serve you and leave you alone unless you ask for something. I like that!!! Very relaxed and slow vibe. I love that!!! No frills. No hassles. Just straight to the point.. good grubbin'. Honestly, if you read my other posts and have tried the restaurants I've tried, you'll know... I don't play games. also, I spent much time in Japan and I was the worst of the worst sushi Nazis ever! So for me to give this little joint props, is kinda a big deal. You'll see what I mean when you come. No frills. In most places you get what you pay for... In this place you pay less and get more! Not too many places like this anymore. I hope they continue to stay in business and never change their style. read more

This place is so cheap. I asked for extra wasabi twice, twice! And you know what kind of answer the server gave me? "We've already put a lot in there." And refused to gave me extra wasabi. Take a good look at the picture. You call that a lot?! Are you fucking blind?? There's no wasabi in the hand roll box, and there's only a bit in the sushi box. Wasabi ended up being not enough. What a surprise. The sashimi was not fresh. You can taste the cultivated bacteria from days old fish! I had to throw it away. 23 bucks wasted! Never coming back again! Ever! read more

I ordered sushi for takeout, and I can't say it's the best sushi I've ever had but it hit the spot for a quick fix. The sushi rice was over cooked and too wet for my preference. The crawfish poured on top added a good texture to it and it definitely filled me up. I received a decent amount of seaweed salad as a side. read more

My First time ordering here through DoorDash and I'm impressed. Food is delicious and fresh and I love how they pack their rolls separately in very sturdy to go containers. They give a generous side of ginger and wasabi too which is a big plus. I'm just visiting the area but will definitely order from here again! I ordered the Salmon Scallop roll, Tiger Roll and mixed tempura. They were all good. read more

the vibe in there is a little weird but i am not lying when i say this is the best salmon nigiri i have ever had. i love love love sushi and i have yet to find salmon nigiri that tops sushiya's. i also love that they are open late. Great sushi, great people, and great service overall! Everyone is so nice and the sushi is really good! The Jasmine Roll is my favorite, being it's super yummy with a subtle crunch. Although it's extremely convenient for me to just grab and go (considering they only do take-out), it's too bad I can't stay long to see one of the really cute workers there :). 3.5 stars to be exact. I decided to drop by here for lunch cause I was stopping by guitar center and was seriously hungry! I've been here before a LOOOONNGG time ago and back then it was $18 for lunch all you can eat and $25 for dinner all you can eat.... So I was like maybe I'll just spend $20 and stuff my face with a bunch of sushi!! When I got there I was awkwardly greeted and I asked how much the AYCE is and she goes $37... $37?????!!! ITS LUNCH TIME!! I basically told her that without dramatizing it... and she tells me It $37 all day! What in the world??!!! Who does an all day set price for AYCE ???!!! Everyone has lunch and dinner prices!! Whatever... so I decided to go with a two item lunch combo - the two items were california roll and spicy tuna roll.... The sushi was ok, nothing bad, nothing special. Its a pretty cool, intimate environment, which can be nice - or crammed... depending on how you want to view it lol. Overall, the place is ok. I felt very awkward cause I was like I dont want the AYCE at $37, so I'll get a lunch combo - and she was going to have me sit on the side tables, but she sat me at the sushi bar, and I ordered California rolls and spicy tuna rolls as part of the combo and she was like - 'oh... so you're eating sushi...? I was going to seat you on side table' LOL NO - I came to a sushi restaurant to have a submarine sandwich! BUT on the flip side, I felt really bad cause she was this cute little old tiny Asian woman... how can you get upset at that??!!! LOL!! I dont think I'll be back here for a while.. if ever. MAYBE, if I'm feeling a little crazy, i'll spend the $37 and come here with my wife for a date night or something for us to stuff our faces. I'm not sure why this restaurant doesn't have higher ratings. I've been here a few times and every time I go, I am always pleased with how fresh the fish is. Honestly, the quality of fish equals any of the sushi I have had at restaurants double its price point. Sushi Ya is a great value in that sense. Also, the small family owned restaurant has really friendly service. Note that they do not offer an AYCE option anymore - probably for the better to maintain the high quality of its ingredients. If you're looking for a no frills sushi spot with great food and friendly service, give it a shot. Support your local small business. read more

This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall, and one of my regular spots for sushi. There are only 3 tables here, with the rest of the seating at the bar. You can do AYCE or order off the menu. I usually go AYCE and sit at the bar so I can tell the chef what I want, just relax and eat, and not having to worry about the bill. There is a time limit of an hour though. While I can't speak for the waiting staff, the sushi chefs are always very nice. Customer service could be better. The fish to rice ratio isn't great, but that's alright. I'm always stuffed after said and done. You gotta try the Jasmine Hand Roll. They mix in some tempura to add a crunch. It's very rich, so a couple of these will definitely fill you up. Very unique. I wish they do 1/2 orders on rolls though... It's just too much food for 2 people to try a wider variety of rolls. The parking lot is really small, and it's shared with 4 other businesses. read more

Be ready to down some serious sushi in an hour! All-you-can-eat sushi for $24 (dinner) is not bad at all. For all the fresh sushi we ordered, I think we ripped them off at that price! I usually start off with a Jasmine Hand Roll and also end with one or two. This hard to find soybean-wrapped roll has creamy goodness with a crunch to it! Some of their premium rolls we've tried were the Spider, Yellow Tail Delight, Caterpillar, and Crunch Dragon. Appetizers are also included in the all-you-can-eat menu like mixed tempura, calamari, and baked mussels. Those alone would already break the $10 mark. I'm so glad we had an appetite, or else they would've charged us for unfinished food. Last time I went here, people were forming a line in front of this small sushi restaurant that sits 22 total. So it might be a good idea to dine early, to beat the rush. Most people like to sit at the bar for the all-you-can-eat experience. The chefs are always fun to talk to while they make fresh quality sushi right in front of you. I always look forward to dining at Sushiya when I'm traveling down south. I'm thinking of trying a Fire Cracker and some Monkey Brains, then get a Heart Attack the next time I visit this place. I can't wait! read more

The Tbrothers love this place and I understand why--I think we came here 3 times in one week. All you can eat, that's right ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT sushi that is fun and affordable (My max was about 6 whole rolls and it was painful!). Sit at the bar for the best service from J and S. At least once, get the 151 Roll, its tasty, ON FIRE, and fun for all guests involved. I also recommend the Yellowtail and Salmon sashimi. Mackerel, like Fel says, can be a little on the fishier side. The main attraction here is the all you can eat sushi for $24 at dinner ($22 at lunch). But at that price, don't expect the world. What you can expect is fair grade sushi and lots of it. They tend to lean towards the monster rolls, but for me, I prefer the nigiri style. I'm surprised they don't overload the rice, but I wish they had more selection. For the all you can eat, you're limited to hamachi, ebi, anago, sake, and maguro for the high end. After that you have the second rate fish like mackerel, flying fish roe, tai, tako, etc. Although I'm not a roll person, I was impressed by the sushiya roll and the spider roll. Sushiya is a combination of the high end fish, and the spider is soft shell crab. Go on an empty stomach, indulge in the $2 Kirins, and walk away full. read more

Not bad! I was worried because there were many recent one-star reviews but I decided why not. I'm glad I tried! I went around 8 o'clock on a tuesday during dinner and the place was pretty full. It was small and the sign wasn't even on when we got there but the inside seemed very lively. We just sat down at the corner of the bar but I immediately noticed my seat was dirty. Turns out the seat just hadn't been cleaned yet, so I moved over because another party was supposed to be sitting there as well. The server who was a super sweet older asian lady kept apologizing, which I really appreciated. Right after we got settled the sushi chef got us started right away. We ordered soooo much sushi. I took a picture of our order sheet and my boyfriend and I alone ate about 80 dollars of sushi. For pigs like us, all you can eat is a much better option than going a la carte. I'm glad I found this place. To set things straight, I'm not a sushi expert like most yelpers. I like rolls that are drenched in sweet sauce and spicy mayo as long as they taste good. I'm not someone to be stingy about rice temperature or anything else like that. So when the rainbow roll and the tuna lover's roll came out for our first plate, my hungry boyfriend and I dove into the plate and finished it super quickly. The chef definitely works fast, because our lobster roll and another roll came out while we were still eating the roll. The first bite of our meal was glorious. The fish was flavorful and I couldn't help but awe at the taste after the first bite. I couldn't help but notice how the fish on top of the rolls were poorly attached to the rice. It tasted amazing, but the presentation is part of the game too, you know! My favorite part had to be the nigiri. The salmon melted in my mouth and the albacore was HUGE in proportion to the rice. I wish they had onion bits on top of the albacore but it was still good. I'm a roll person but the nigiri was seriously amazing. Totally considering going back and just ordering a bunch of nigiri. When my meal was done, I thought I was going to go crazy. My stomach was beyond full and I couldn't bother to stand up from my chair for a minute or two. When my check came and I finished the transaction, the asian lady came to me and complimented me about how nice I was with a huge smile on her face. I feel like she might have felt as if she was seeing her own daughter or something but she was seriously the cutest and the sweetest. She was slow with giving service but it's because she tries to make interaction with every customer. The chef was nice too! I didn't get to talk to him or anything but he was generous with giving more ginger and other requests. I noticed a certificate on their wall that thanked them for their 10+ years of service. If a place stays in business for more than ten years, you know they're doing something right. I had a good time! Will be back again :) read more

AYCE sushi you say? Sign me up! I noticed the chef wasn't giving me the same cuts that he was using for the a la carte customers, but I didn't say anything since I was demolishing their mackerel and tuna supplies. The first time you get AYCE it could be a little hostile since you only have an hour to pig out once your first order is given to you. After coming back numerous times the "hour" seems to get extended, and the cuts of fish get better once they see you as a regular. Last week, Jason, the sushi chef hooked me up with some toro tuna which can run up to $20 for a sashimi order. After many visits to this lil slice of heaven I find myself wondering why I never actually gave them props... So here I am raving and ranting about why everyone should go to sushi ya! Honestly if you luv sushi then this is the best place to get good quality fish for your buck. At 24.99 for lunch and 25.99 for dinner you can indulge yourself (pig out) off the all you can eat sushi menu. Make sure you speak with Jason the owner of the place! he is totally awesome and can chop up some sashimi like no other! The older lady (waitress) can be rude and forget to bring you your drinks even after asking her three times hahah. But it just might be worth the 2.50 tap beer ! read more

If you're in the area and craving some sushi, this is the place to go! Service is quick and friendly, there's free parking, and the sushi is amazing! My friend and I ordered the firecracker, rainbow roll and the spicy crunch roll. All three were terrific! Add some spicy mayo, and you'll be golden. They have AYCE but we opted for a la carte since we weren't too hungry that evening. Otherwise, they had a lot of other options as far as appetizers and udon. They even have a sushi burrito! My favorite place for AYCE sushi despite their strange hours (not opened Friday for dinner/closed on Sat - would recommend that you call the place for hours just in case) & small parking lot. I would come more often except my stomach can only handle AYCE madness once every 3 months. For the best experience, get there early/when it opens so you can sit at the sushi bar! The service is spotty and most of the time, there is only 1 person working, so if you sit at the bar, you can order directly from the sushi chefs & spend more time eating vs. waiting for your food. This place has the most consistent fish quality in terms of freshness (vs. other sushi places around the area) and the best fish-rice ratio roll (and my personal favorite) is the Sushi Ya roll -Salmon, tuna, crab, & tempura shrimp with a bit of rice wrapped in soy paper. read more

Two words: JASMINE ROLL. No joke. The yelp reviews pointed to the Jasmine Roll, so the bf and I decided to order it, hand cut, and it was so yummily delicious. The soy paper gives it that melt-in-your-mouth amazingness, and the fish selection was so fresh. The best part: the crispy tempura flakes that are somehow mixed in, which gives this roll the most wonderful subtle crunch. YUM. We also ordered the sweet shrimp (hells yeah fried shrimp heads), a roll with yellowtail and spicy tuna, and a roll with salmon and california roll. So all of our rolls were fresh selections, and the freshness of the fish was quality. The sweet shrimp was pretty darn good - both the heads and the raw body. We may have found our new local go-to sushi spot! read more

I know that will all you can eat places you can expect the quality to be a little on the low side, but not with Sushiya always have fresh fish. I would agree with other posters about the old lady, I think due to oldness shes on the craby side. Always threatening to charge extra, hehe. I recomend the Barcardi Roll for entertainment cuz they douse the whole thing with Barcardi (duh) and set it aflame. read more

Around 9:02 p.m., my waiter came by to ask for last orders. I ordered chicken karaage. This is a simple dish that usually comes out in about 4 to 5 minutes. For whatever reason, the order did not arrive until around 9:26 p.m. -- almost 25 minutes later. It seemed obvious that the order had been forgotten. When the karaage finally arrived, it looked hastily sauced. Several parts of the chicken were unsauced, which is not how the dish was normally served in the past. Given the delay and the apparent mishandling, I did not touch the dish. A Japanese male manager wearing glasses then came over. He recognized me, and I explained that I had not been back for more than a year because of the food poisoning incident from fish in 2025. Instead of responding seriously, the manager smiled and giggled slightly, then launched into an irrelevant conversation about his connections in the Japanese food industry in Old Town Pasadena. When he asked why I had not touched the chicken, I explained the almost 30-minute delay and the problems with the dish. Rather than comping the item or offering a real apology, the manager asked whether I still wanted to eat it or would prefer to cancel it. He then ended the conversation by suggesting that I come in during weekday lunch for the $18 lunch specials. That response was bizarre and tone deaf. I did not return after a food poisoning incident to hear a sales pitch about lunch specials. I returned as a longtime customer giving Osawa another chance. Osawa's way of doing business has changed a lot. I've seen better customer service at Erewhon.
