We actually prefer Sushiko to some of the local larger places that tend to be packed at busy times as the sushi and sashimi here is just as good, only with a homey neighborhood feel. A lovely, friendly go-to lunch spot for me and the co-worker gang. Everyone who works here is super nice and they always bestow us with complimentary appetizers and desserts. What's not to love? The lunch special prices are crazy affordable, everything pretty much under $12. The portions are very generous, and they always have some off-the-wall special of the day which includes more food than anyone could possibly ingest during a lunch break. One time it was some cheesy rice bowl concoction? Today it was a huge plate of chicken yaki-soba with a ton of sides. The staple for me is the bento box lunch combo, which is really a bajillion entree possibilities rolled into one sweet little package. You can choose from a ton of options including teriyakis, rolls, sashimi, grilled fish, tempura, etc etc. Their sushi is huuuuuge and the quality is definitely not bad. I'm admittedly usually too snobby for California rolls but I nearly always get it here because they are the frickin largest Cali Rolls I have ever laid eyes on. Their sashimi and nigiri are impressively portioned and pretty fresh-tasting too. Great solid place for some sushi. Be wary of Friday lunchtime though! I've heard rumors of some ridiculous sake special they do that brings in droves of people. But if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!! read more

We tried a variety of sushi rolls at Sushiko. While their quality and freshness were good, I can't say the same for the price, it seemed on the higher end in comparison to many sushi restaurants nearby, around San Antonio and in MV in general. You can find similar for a bit less elsewhere, so their ratio of food/taste to price just wasn't impressive. Good service, friendly, a bit slow. Overall good experience, I'd say 3.5 stars, but I just honestly can't round it up to 4. And of course it would have to be truly exceptional in quality/taste and service to earn all five stars. I hope they have good potential though to improve on their offerings, I'd be happy to update them to 4 stars then. Cheers! read more

Armadillo Willy's was closed and I noticed across the street Sushiko. It is 90 degrees hot out and my son loves sushi. I bought some different rolls to go. They made them right there and they were fantastic and super fresh!!!. We are going back again and again. I wish I would have stopped by earlier. They have been open for four years. read more

Nice place to go for lunch if you work in the area. The unagi and spicy crunch rolls are really good. Can't complain about the $8.99 for 2 items bento box either. Service is alright, but it can be slow during lunch when it gets really busy of course. Pretty neat how they always give you a 10% off discount every time you get the bill. read more

Don't ever visit this restaurant again. There was a piece of plastic bag in the Udon Soup. I was really mad at the attitude of those staff in the restaurant. There wasn't any sincere apology of the restaurant's manager or owner except a superficial toss up "Sorry" just before we leave. My husband and I came here cause we didn't want to go far for dinner and felt like Japanese. The service was slow, but they were very friendly. My sashimi dinner special was well priced and fresh. Found this place by looking at other reviews on yelp. Great little place. Super friendly staff, food was good and fresh. Prices were good too. Dinner came with miso soup. We got the dinner salad too. Ordered 3 rolls, 2 salads, 1 appetizer, 2 beers and came to about $70 with tip. Not too bad for 3 people. Paid $40 just for sandwiches at lunch which was sub-par at best. I've been living in the Bay Area for only 3 weeks now and I've already eaten here 4 times. Twice for dinner and twice for lunch. It depends on the staff but if you get the right people working there the food is fantastic. The sashimi tastes very refreshing and the rolls are savoury for the most part. The staff are very friendly. The one roll I would stay away from is the Ocean Roll. My favorite is the 49ers, with crab meat inside and salmon and lemon slices on top. read more

Finally got to this restaurant, and was delighted. I ordered a Bento box... could choose 3 items... a salad and white rice came with it. I ordered Teriyaki Chicken, Gyoza(pork) and avocado sushi roll. The chicken (a lot of it) was delicious, tender and tasty. The gyoza's(pot stickers) were good taste but could have done with being a little hotter in temperature), the avocadoo roll was yummy, but the roll was not tight and the seaweed was open on one side... but good. The salad was good, rice...just right amount. Could not eat the miso soup or endame beans that were complimentary, but my friend said they were good. Service was spotty. She was a little offhand, "sit anywhere". Sighed when I asked about soy(I am allergic)....We waited a long time for our dinner(30 mins), and she did not bring my beer or a fork till I had asked twice. It was not busy. The tables could do with a good scrub, and all the things on the table...felt sticky. What I LOVE about this place is that it is quiet... you can hear your friend talking, and not everyone else. The food was absolutely amazing and well prepared. I had the Tuna Tataki appetizer and it was delicious as well as a Red Dragon Roll. Service was perfect. Very few Sushi places give out the free stuff. I was greeted with hot tea, Edamame, and Miso soup. I will definitely be back. read more

Sushiko makes good sushi, but its printed menu is terrible. They give lots of funny names to their sushi rolls (such as No Problem, Tiffany, and A's). But the printed menu gives no description at all what these rolls contain. So ordering at meal at Sushiko's is a real pain. You have to ask what's inside everything before you can order. This is almost impossible when you want to order take out from the printed menu over the phone. The printed menu is on cheap small paper. Sushikos will cut corners to save a penny at the expense of their customers' convenience. I'm not going back until they print a decent informative menu and hand them out for take out customers. There are lots of other good sushi restaurants in the neighborhood to bother with sushikos inconvenience. MS read more

Very displeased with the service here, came here during lunch hour and surprisingly enough it was empty. The waitress that was there wasn't friendly, my friend and I felt as though she was throwing food at us. With it being slow, one would assume the waiter/waitress would take more time to be with the customers but we never felt like we were given attention. The food tasted "okay" to say the least. It wasn't spectacular, it was over priced for the service that was provided. Had the waitress had a better attitude and took better care of us, I would've given a much higher rating. read more

Went in for dinner with my kids. The service was great- friendly and kind server. However, the dinner was not good at all. The bento boxs' sushi was poorly made, terrible portion size of fish and actually tasteless. The rice was hard and tasted day old. The tempura was greasy and tasted like pure oil. There is good variety in the menu, ranging from bento boxes, to sushi, to udon, and many other items in-between. I am in the south bay often enough to want to be a regular at a sweet, easygoing sushi spot, and I think I've found it! I've been here twice now and twice I've had a very lovely experience. The service here is outstanding. Very quick, very friendly and they have made me feel quite welcome. The atmosphere is soothing and feels just right. Lots of light from the big windows. I've found the sushi to be terrific. They give good portions of fish, and it seems fresh. I also had the best salmon skin handroll there that I've ever had. Also, the selection of rolls is pretty wide but not so enormous that you can't figure out what you want! Any drawbacks? Soda from a can is always sad for me. No complimentary tea. The presentation could be a little sharper. But, overall, a really nice lunch spot with warm service that I'll be returning to. read more
