Small pieces of Nigiri, small compact "long rolls", Nigiri rice just falls apart when you pick up the pieces, and thinly sliced pieces of fish on the Nigiri and atop the rolls. Pieces of fish not as quite as cold as should be when served. Waitress (we sat at a table, not the bar) was kind and polite, but we had to remind about miso soup 2x, water refill, and never recd a second order sheet (we took one from the table next to us). Loved this place when it was Hiroba but I love it even more now. Staff is super friendly and helpful. There's a large array of sushi choices and the fish itself is some of the best I've had in Reno. The food at Sushimi's is amazing! I would highly recommend the Firecracker, CR7, and Ceejay. The rolls always have a good rice ratio. The miso is on point and the muscles are so yummy. I want so badly to give a five star review but there is one big downside, the seating!! It's always packed and for some reason the large tables will have two people sitting at them meanwhile there's a line out the door. If you can go to Sushimi's during a slow time I would highly recommend it. Sadly the service is better when you're at a table then the bar. On several occasions we had the chef right in front of us forget our order because he was so busy making rolls for the tables. However, the staff is friendly and they work their tails off. If they were to move to a bigger venue I would be so thrilled. Overall, it's always worth the wait. Would highly recommend for great sushi in Reno. read more

I was shocked to see that our neighborhood sushi place had changed. We had ordered to go and what we got was so disappointing. The sashimi pieces were tiny. The rainbow roll was diminutive and surprisingly, the spider roll was even smaller. Nothing seemed fresh. We got one packet of soy sauce and no wasabi in our to-go containers. We had a horrible experience there, we took our grandson for his birthday, we were asked to wait out side by the owner, with his baby sister and friends an family We froze after an hour in 32 degree weather. They only had seats for half our party and after seating us pretty much ignored us. Did not offer us anything, until we asked. They would not take our order until everyone was seated which was another half hour. Then they would only serve one of our tables at a time so we waited an other 20 min for food. This place has really increased in quality recently. The owner is amazing at making sushi and will make you custom entrees that will blow your mind. I am very impressed with the increase in quality since they changed names. We live in truckee and go at least a couple times a week now. And to top it off the price for all you can eat is very low for what you get. You would pay probably $300 in truckee/Tahoe for what you can get here for $60. Very impressive. read more

Definitely NOT coming back! We walked in had to wait to be seated which is fine they were busy and had to bus the table. The part that got me tho is the owner? (Only person I recognize that worked at hiroba) who sat us went on to sit more people ok, 20 minutes passes he NEVER came back or sent any one over to even take our drink order. Mean while the couple he sat after us got drinks and appetizers what have you. What killed me even more was there was waiter who came back and forth at least 3 times to the table next to us wouldn't even make eye contact! We waited 10 more minutes then walked out with NO drink, appetizer, NOT even a see ya later! Sorry to say customer service makes or breaks your business no matter how good the food is! read more

The food was very good a little spicy but good. However we spent and hour and a half at dinner and one of our guest got thier food and hour after she ordered. They then proceeded to attempt to charge us for some uneaten sushi that she had ordered. After debating with the manager about charging us for the extra sushi she then decided to not charge us but then took another 15 minutes to get us the check. As well as nobody bothered to clean up our dishes as we were eating which sounds petty but the plates got so bad that the servers began to stack the food onto the dirty dishes. The manager also had attitude with us with the pay check of course she was only like 20 but still be professional. All in all my first time here was not the greatest. read more

This used to be called Hiroba and had another co-owner who took the Hiroba name. I was greatly saddened by this at first as Hiroba was one of my favorite sushi places in town. However, I gave it a try and it was still just as delicious as before. The sushi proportions are perfect. You can do all you can eat and are able to try many things as the rolls and nigiri aren't monstrous in size. They also painted the walls from bright orange to white which I think helped the ambience. I bring my friends here when they are visiting from out of state (they are foodies) and we leave satisfied every time. I've tried almost every sushi place in Reno and Sparks and in my opinion, this is the best. read more

This place...what a let down this time. The first time we went it was amazing, so my initial review of this place was great. This time was awful. We went on Tuesday night thinking it would be a quick in and out. Boy, we're we wrong. Let me be clear: I understand that there is a global pandemic which upended the job market fantastically. However, this was ridiculous. Once we sat, we got our first ticket out, and they didn't even ask us what we wanted to drink. Finally, the waitress (I think there was literally one) asked if we needed anything and I said yes we would like drinks. Then, everything went downhill. The potstickers we ordered were so over cooked you could hardly chew them, so I only ate one. Every sushi roll that had cooked shrimp in it was WAY over cooked. The shrimp was fried crispy and not in a good way, the texture felt like calamari it was so overdone. The sushi just didn't taste good. And, every roll we ordered took SO long to get to us. It took 40 minutes for our last two rolls and an order of nigiri to come out. We went to eat the spicy tuna roll only to find that over half of the roll was muscle tissue, not meat. You served this to guests?? Took forever to get our bill, took forever for someone to pick up the bill. And for roughly $100, I expect better. Again, I get that staffing is an issue. But that's no excuse for poor quality all around. Not sure when we'll be back. read more

Haven't been to this sushi restaurant since it was Hiroba, and knew that it was still highly spoke about. However we had a didn't have an experience worth coming back. We were quoted 20 min for the bar for a 2-top. We understood they were busy but the 20 min really turned out to be 55 min and now we went from having an late lunch @3:05 to getting sat @4 pm for dinner. We watched the busser use a towel on the bar seats and then proceed to clean the counter top we were about to sit down with the same towel. It happens, I just would have been better off not seeing that. The restaurant felt really dirty and nobody working there seemed to be happy. Maybe just an off day? The food was decent - not the worst or best sushi I had ever had. The mussels were super chewy, like they had been left in the broiler too long. I was in the restaurant industry for years and I always wanted to know what things we could capitalize on to make it better and you don't know how you can do that unless people speak up. read more

It is much cleaner, the servers are really nice, the fish is fresh, and the sushi to rice ratio is on point. I should also add that I came on a Sunday afternoon around 3pm. Sushimi's is a new and renovated Hiroba. They may have changed their name and look, but they are still just as much (if not more) awesome! Our server Gabby picked up plates immediately after we finished them and the sushi was great. They always make sure it is a fair amount of rice to filling (fish, crab, etc) so you always get good, high-quality sushi. They're keeping the top rolls, adding a lot of delectable desserts, and overhauling some less popular rolls. All to the good! They also just added free sake every day Monday to Thursday. Who can complain about that? Also! Ask for a punch card if you are a regular customer such as myself :) The manager Rodrigo made sure the meal was excellent, as well.
