Ringing in 2023!
Rosalinda V.

My husband and I celebrated the New Year at Sustenio's New Year's Eve party. The cold display, hot items, and carving station were nice. The desserts did not seem to be chef made but rather something purchased at the local Sam's Club. We expected more. The music was geared toward a younger crowd. Oh well. ‍ Unfortunately, we didn't see any fireworks either. Happy New Year!

Queso with brisket

We visited after a long day of travel. Cody was so personable. There weren't a lot of patrons but all servers were attentive. The queso was tasty with the brisket. The brisket adds so much flavor. The homemade chips that come with the dish are really good as well. We also indulged in their combo pizza. It was fresh and not overly oily at all. The only disappointment was they serve the pizza with cheese packets verses fresh cheese. Might still be Covid protocol.

Sustenio the restaurant inside Eilan Resort. the few times we've eaten here it has been good. this was pre-"pandemic". recently they've re-opened to full capacity and hours i believe. so our fingers were crossed it would still be good as some reviews stated otherwise. it wasn't busy. we got there just after they opened. my salad was good. apparently chicken cost $12 extra for a few dry chicken strips. overpriced to say the least. otherwise the salad was good. husband ordered the filet medium. the waitress even came back to confirm we understood medium to be a warm pink center. Little did she realize we are from the Texas panhandle. We know our beef and we know exactly what the meat is supposed to look like on the inside after cooking. in actuality she need to confirm this very question with the cook because the steak came out with NO pink whatsoever inside. none. zilch. nada. can you say overcooked? we did discuss it with the waitress and she informed the cook and manager. waitress offered to have re-done but husband declined. it was still edible and quite frankly i would've been done eating before he got his new meal but we did want them to know the cook was overcooking steaks and at the price they charge for them ... you want it cooked right !!! the manager eventually came over to the table. i honestly didn't think she was going to. they did offer up a free dessert. I took it. IT WAS AMAZING. best thing on the menu no doubt. our waitress was amazing and extremely apologetic thru this ordeal.

The only thing we thought was ok was the roll we ordered at the very end. It wasn't too busy when we went but it was also hard getting the attention of our server to order things.

Could be a nice, intimate place for dinner though we were seated next to a pretty loud group. Service was fast and friendly, which was appreciated. The meal itself was decent, not great. Tried the masago and snow crab off the sushi menu; the former was good, but the latter strangely dry, as if it had sat out a little too long. An appetizer portion of the shrimp and vegetable tempura was very good. Particularly puzzling was the unagi roll. Not only did each piece of the roll fall apart, it was doused with so much eel sauce that it was hard to taste anything else. Looking back on it, I should have sent it back to the kitchen. Of note was the tempura banana dessert, which was a sort of Japanese take on a sundae! Putting crisp, hot chunks of fruit up against sweet vanilla ice cream, sprinkles, and chocolate syrup (not berries as the menu claimed) was...well, interesting. I probably wouldn't order it again, but it is novel. Average it out and it's a decent place, though I would only come again if I was in the area for something else to begin with. This place scores a 3 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either.

The place is a good size with inside and outside seating. They have nice alcove booths that fit a good amount of people. We made reservations for first Sunday brunch. Currently they only offer brunch the first Sunday of the month. They have an extensive wine menu and do have wine based cocktails and mimosas. On Sundays they have happy hour all day. I had she zucchini fries. The serving was big enough to share. It came with a side of marinara. For my meal, I had the avocado toast with poached eggs. The avocado has just the right amount of lime. It came with a hash brown patty. The hashbrown patty was just ok. For dessert, we shared the pancakes. They were sooooo good. Definitely full of butter, but not complaints from us. I had the pink label Rose. It was good and a great price as it was on their special menu of opened bottles. Parking is available on site, but shared with the other businesses

I love the industrial vibe of the place. It was a rainy Saturday and the place wasn't particularly busy, so the service was good! Our server was friendly and knowledgable about the menu, and the food, while small in portion size (they are tapas, after all) was delicious. We started with the tostadas de chorizo and the house sangria. Both were super tasty. Then we ordered the chistorra (Spanish sausage) and pan con tomate, and finally we shared the albondiga...a giant meatball that was perfection. Can't wait to go back to Boerne and have some more Spanish goodness!

Our friendly young male server suggested a new Portuguese beer that just came out. It comes in a 4-pack, 6.8 oz bottles with convenient pull-tabs & on a bucket of ice. We went for it! Not bitter, light bodied & easy to drink. We savored the ambiance in the outdoor patio as it FINALLY cooled down to the low 70s! We were given water in a carafe and 2 glasses. I'm sensitive to the taste of municipal tap water so I should've asked if it was filtered water? You'll have to ask for ice cubes if you want ice. Our tapas were the scallops ceviche tostadas(2 tortillas holding them) & a flatbread with Serrano jamon, sliced pears, melted brie, onions & drizzled balsamic glaze. Hubs liked it but I thought it was lukewarm & skimpy on the ham. The cheese wasn't gooey & cooled off. Was slightly gamey to me. He loved his scallop ceviche tostada. The restaurant wasn't very occupied but our server said it gets pretty packed in the evening esp. when there's live music. More people came in when we were almost finished eating. We ate outside because they must have just disinfected & mopped the floors because the inside had a super strong chemical smell. Lots of metal tables and chairs in the patio.
