I am very adventurous and was willing to try even though their were some lackluster reviews. WOW. Blown away. I actually don't know if i have ever had a worse meal. First clue was the lack of a waitress. Second clue was when the waitress helped another table that came in after us. Seriously, I should have left when they served me a warm beer. I should have left after bland fishy tasting crab cakes. But i suffered through. I felt like I was on a realty television show when they served a steak in ?wine sauce that had split into mostly oil. I guess it was a cold day because they seemed to be out of salt in the kitchen- it must have been used on the road out front. Wow. Recent positive reviews are either plants or paid services.... this valentines day meal will live in infamy around our house. I can honestly recommend taking people here who have insulted your home cooking to generate a baseline for bad. We ended up having a nice date night so this is an honest review... Ummm ... what a surprise??? I was driving south of the twin cities, saw this restaurant, and the 'European Dining' designation and was intrigued. First off, this is Minnesota. I'm not driving around souther France. How good could this place be? It was delicious. I had the seafood crepe and it was fantastic. The crepe was creamy and the shrimp and crab meat was very tasty, which is not an easy feat. When you think about it, that seafood had to be shipped from multiple locations to get down to Suzette's, so the fact that it tasted like shrimp and not a rubbery, smelly sea world in your mouth is a testament to the chef. Speaking of the chef, he also came out of the kitchen to say hello. Very nice man who wanted to make sure I was taken care of. He even made a fresh pot of coffee so I could have a to-go cup. Looks can be deceiving. From the outside, you might think that you're about to enter a quaint diner - but inside are the makings of a true gourmet experience with some country charm thrown in. Highly recommend the escargot which is ensconced in a light pastry and sitting in a decadent pool of butter. I had the salmon. Divine. My wife the mixed grill with beef, lobster tail described as "petit" on the menu but was pretty substantial, plus pork with cranberry sauce (couldn't help myself - I sampled off her plate quite a bit). My dish was so good that I even ate the garnish!!! (radish placed atop creamy garlicky mashed potatoes). Wines were good too, pretty standard. And to top it off creme brûlée and cappuccino soufflé both great but not as completely awesome as the entrées. This place reminded me a lot of the Scenic Cafe up north - very unassuming then - BAM!!!!! - you are hit with some of the most amazing food you've had all year. Great prices too. What an amazing little find! My husband suggested we try this place after he read good reviews. This little spot is tucked away next to the OK Corral off of 169. It has a quaint, bistro style atmosphere inside. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with the menu and suggestions. The food is absolutely amazing. My husband got duck and it was hands down the best we've ever had. It is cooked with the skin on and grilled perfectly - not greasy, not fatty, and oh-so-good. I got the seafood platter (shrimp, scallops, and South African cold water lobster) and, again, everything was cooked to perfection. To top off the great meal, we ordered the fruit napoleon - a pastry stuffed with custard, all the fruit you can imagine, and whipped cream. The chef/owner was born in Cambodia but studied French cuisine in Switzerland. He's worked in top rated hotels, and took his skills to Jordan. My husband is Cambodian, so we wanted to meet him. The tantalizing menu just didn't deliver. Compared to nearby restaurants Suzette's menu appealed in variety and freshness. The service was excellent, the ambience was sweet, but the final product lacked in delivery. I ordered cesar salad and cranberry pork. My husband had bacon lentil soup and seafood manicotti. We shared the bread pudding for dessert. First course. The Cesar salad was recommended as homemade, but I found it watery and lacking in spice. There wasn't any pepper on the table and none was offered. It didn't help that the parmesan cheese wasn't freshly grated. The bacon lentil soup had a nice broth, but again it lacked spice. Just a pich of salt to enhance the flavors or perhaps a bit of cayenne would have given me the impression that the chef had eaten outside the midwest. Main course: The cranberry pork plate looked pretty ~ 20 years ago. It also lacked cohesion of flavors. If i had a bite of veggie, garlic mashed potatoe, pork, and cranberry all at once it was okay. Any one of those elements (except the one sugar snap bean which was perfect) on its own was bland at best. The seafood manicotti was smothered in a rich sauce that overwhelmed the seafood. Which was just as well because the seafood was overcooked. Dessert: Bread pudding was our best course. Warm, flavorful, yummy sauce. Drat! I hate to give the best restaurant in a 50 mile radius a 2 star rating, but that's the way I see it. I did love the servive and was charmed by the ambience. I'd go back if I had to stay in this area for long and learn to bring my own salt & pepper. read more

This place has a very modest exterior and little in the way of interior decor. Go here for the food! Our party of seven ordered a wide variety from the substantial menu and it was very satisfying. The escargot is excellent. The pastry cover is light and flaky; the snails are earthy and tender; and the garlic butter sauce is to die for. We very much liked both soup options: the expected wild rice soup and the creamy squash soup. The only misstep of the evening was the wimpy Cesar salad. The lettuce was limp, the cheese seemed like it was from a shaker and the dressing was watery. Skip this. I had the Chateaubriand and it was very good, well cooked and beautifully sauced. My wife loved her Marin Grivois, again perfectly cooked scallops and shrimp, with well seasoned al dente pasta. I tasted both the walleye and the Chilean sea bass; both very flaky and melt in your mouth tender. The desserts are spectacular. I had the exquisite bread pudding (made with croissants!) drenched in a decadent brandy sauce. The turtle cheesecake was light, the chocolate cake was huge and the triple chocolate mousse was as succulent as it was pretty. Service was very friendly and attentive. Decent, if not spectacular, food. Slow service. Things could be a little cleaner. We went there for lunch while on the road a couple weeks ago. The waitress (the cook's wife, I think), was friendly and brought out hot rolls right away (the heat-and-serve kind, but tasty). Both of our appetizer plates were dirty with bits of food baked on to them, and the silverware looked dirty. We grabbed a couple plates from a neighboring table and used the handy cloth napkins to wipe down our silverware. Maybe put a little detergent in the dishwasher, OK? We both ordered the daily special of pork tenderloin medallions in cranberry sauce. The meat was tender, but not overly flavorful. The mixed vegetables were boiled to submission, but the garlic potatoes were quite tasty. Overall, the combination of flavors was a bit off, but it was OK. Nothing that sets it apart from any number of chain restaurants. The prices were reasonable, however. After we finished the meal and decided not to order dessert, the waitress disappeared. And we didn't see her for quite a while. She emerged occasionally to bring out water for the few other patrons there, but no check. I finally got up and asked for the check. She brought it and dropped it off before I could hand her my card. After another wait, I went over to the cash register and waited another 5 minutes or so before she came out of the kitchen to ring it up. She mumbled something about "I didn't expect so many people to come in at once." There were only 4 tables of people, including the 2 of us. I'd hate to imagine how flustered she would've been had the place been packed. With some diligence and a bit more attention that place could become a little gem, but it seems like they are not even trying. And that is a real shame. read more

My wife and I have been here several times, most recently last weekend. The food has consistently been outstanding, but especially noteworthy are the sauces. (This shouldn't be surprising, as the chef is French-trained.) The setting is unassuming, but you don't go to this off the beaten path restaurant for the surroundings; you are there for the food. I've driven by this place many times and thought it was a locals kind of truck stop place. I was pleasantly surprised like many others that this little cafe is above what you'd expect by the exterior. It's an interesting mix of European cafe with Asian design influences and odd accessories for sale in the main dining area. However the menu offered unique and interesting choices from a creamy chicken with mushrooms on a puff pastry to crepes to the specials of beef stroganoff and lasagna. The bread was toasty with nice whipped butter and the asparagus potato leek soup was tasty along with the stroganoff and chicken. My daughter thought the beef in the stroganoff was a little dry and I felt that the sauces could have used a little heavy cream and/or cornstarch to thicken them up. They along with the soup were a little thin. But overall it was a lovely lunch, a good value and tasted lovely. read more

Not pleased. First, I ordered a glass of Shiraz for $6.95 and I saw the waitress pour the wine out of a Yellow Tail bottle. For that price, give me the whole bottle. Next, the waitress brought rolls to the table. They were cold, hard as a rock, and starchy. They tasted awful. Gobs of butter could not save these things. An unbaked potato would have been an improvement. The main course--cranberry-brandy glazed pork chop medallions--were pretty good. The cranberry glaze was hit-you-over-the-head sweet, but the medallions were tender and juicy. The accompanying vegetables were cooked perfectly. Sadly, the early disappointments spoiled the meal for me. read more

We usually keep this restaurant for special occasions like Anniversary's but if you want a nice and quiet meal that will tantalize your taste buds you must give them a try. Do not just keep driving by this place. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary there and couldn't have picked a nicer spot. The staff was extremely on point and there is nothing better than the chef stopping by to see if you enjoyed your meal. My wife loves seafood and I hate it so finding a menu that we each enjoy is sometimes a daunting task. She had the mixed seafood and it looked so nice I was tempted to try it. The escargot was fantastic and my chicken was great. The only problem was after reading other reviews was that we were to full for dessert and I was not leaving without having the fruit Napoleon. We got it to go and it was amazing. I now regret all the missed meals that we could have had here while we were throwing money away at boring chain restaurants paying the same prices. My sister and I have always wanted to try Suzette's. We've driven pass it for years before trying it today. We were lucky enough that they had beef Wellington, which I had never tried before. Before winter and was very tender but a little under done. She told us this was not normal and was kind enough to cook it for us and bring it back with extra mashed potatoes. My sister had had the mixed grill and was very pleased with it she really enjoyed the lobster tail and tenderloin. I met a friend half way from my house in the cities and hers in St Peter. It does look like an average diner from the outside. The interior is pretty simple. BUT the food, oh my the food was amazing! It really is an incredible restaurant! The options are the same of a really nice place in the cities, with incredibly reasonable prices. First of all, the outside of this place looks like a diner so it would be easy to drive by and miss it (which we almost did). After we got settled, we noticed that there was an awkward silence in the restaurant, partially due to few diners and no music. Once we got over the fact that we could hear everyone's conversations, we found the food to be enjoyable. The portion sizes are huge, the meat was cooked perfectly and tasted fresh and the seafood bisque was delightful. The side salads were pretty basic and the garlic potatoes were really garlicky. The best part of this place was the service. We were so impressed at how well our server was able to make recommendations and how frequently our water glasses were filled. If you are looking for a good steak in the area, this would be the place to go. And, they also have a little boutique at the front with jewelry and hats, so you can always do a little shopping between courses! read more

Having been to Suzette's twice before and enjoying their food immensely, I was very much looking forward to my next visit, which happened last week when a friend invited me there for lunch. However, I do not think I could have been more disappointed with my meal. The last time I was at Suzette's (in April), I very much loved the Crepe Princess, so I ordered it again. However, this time, the crepe was so underdone, it was slippery. And although, technically, I suppose the scallops and shrimp also met the definition of "cooked," they had little, or no, flavor. I suppose sushi aficionados wouldn't mind, but not being one of them, I did!! My friend had the day's "special," delicious chicken with creamy sauce over a pastry shell that we both agreed was fabulous. Overall, it's not fair to rate Suzette's on my last experience dining with them, because, normally, their food is outstanding. On the recommendation of a salesperson from Wolf Motors of Jordan, MN, my mother and I chose to dine at Suzette's: Fine European Cuisine. I expected greasy spoon but what I received was far better. I ordered the New York Strip Steak medium and shrimp brisk soup. The shrimp brisk lived up to the expectations the salesman from Wolf Motors had built us up to expect and was served with soft sour dough buns to dip or butter. My New York Strip Steak arrived as my main course and presented well and was served whole with sides of wiped garlic potatoes and crisp, yet cooked, fresh vegetables all sitting in a fabulous steak rue sauce. The steak itself was tender, slightly pink inside, with a hint of char on the outside and melted on my tongue. Perfect! No kidding: the next time I think to head downtown for a fine dinner meal, I plan to grab some friends and chase down to Suzette's instead. read more

Found it on Yelp (thank you Reviewer), frustrated by the abundance of chain restaurants and lousy food SOTR (there are a few -a very few - notable exceptions), and tired of driving north Shrimp mousse stuffed salmon $18, butternut squash soup - delicious. Petit filet with broiled gulf prawns. Oh and a sweet little kids menu, only $3.95, my kids loved the huge spaghetti and meatballs but will try the Chicken Fettucini next visit. My ten year old polished off a huge dense chocolate cake for dessert. It's a quiet place and my kids were the only children there, but they loved the food as much as Mom & Dad did. Inspired classics exquisitly prepared, I'm sure dinner tasted divine in part due to the contrast to the local landscape of second-rate mainstays and chain restaurant with their defective foodstuffs and incompetent staffs. read more

This restaurant has been open for 19 years, and it is truly amazing that this chef is obviously still enamored with cooking each dish to perfection in a minimal amount of time. The flavor profile of each dish was quite distinct. As we looked around the restaurant, we could tell other patrons were as pleased as we were. We are in Jordon for three nights. Our only regret is we didn't go there the first night, but at least now we will eat there two of our three nights. We have relatives in Minneapolis that we plan to tell about this place. I love Suzettes! From the highway, it resembles a run down burger joint, but inside is a cozy European kitchen. It's very small, and I've only ever met 1 server in my 7 times there, but it's so quaint! They serve your dinner on real chinaware, and while the food is slightly expensive ,it's well worth it. Wow, I would have never gave this restaurant a second look from the freeway. It is a little diamond in the ruff tucked away right off the freeway in Jordan. As you walk in, it does have a small town atmosphere but the quality of the food and service is refreshing. If this restaurant was in Minneapolis, the prices would be doubled for the same dishes. Their house Black Opal Shiraz was fantastic, and an ample pour. It was hard to choose a main course, as every item on the menu looked like a winner. For an appetizer, we ordered escargot, which arrived piping hot with oil and lots of tasty onion and garlic bits, plus bread. Very Very Tasty! We went with our server's suggestions, and were not disappointed! My husband ordered the Chateau Briande. The filet was tender and moist, the Bordelaise sauce was rich and delicious, the garlic mashed potatoes were garlicky, and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. I ordered the shrimp and scallops on linguine, with a light sauce of fresh herbs and olive oil. The seafood was delectable, and the pasta was tender. For dessert, we shared a cappuccino souffle, which tasted like coffee ice cream, right down to the tiny bits of roasted coffee bean.
