Edit: To answer the owner's comments, we gave some the cake away to a relative, hoping they would enjoy it more than we did. They ended up not enjoying it, so that's why there's some missing and none of us wanted to eat it anymore! Spoke to Suzi when picking up the cake and explained to her that the cake would not be eaten on the day of, but instead two days later. The cake was for September 1st and that happened to be Labor Day so I had to pick it up earlier! She said, "That's fine," and it can be stored in the fridge for up to a week and in the freezer for up to three months. So, not sure why there's a sense of judgement, cakes should be able to be stored for longer periods of time! And we wanted to order from a bakery specifically, since it was a special occasion. Boy, was I wrong. I had to throw out the cake after 6 days because no one wanted to eat it anymore. I chose to ignore them because I needed a nicely catered cake for my sister's birthday. Suzi sounded very direct over the phone and sometimes dismissive, so I felt that I needed to truly know and prepare for how I wanted my cake each time I called. I could not go in person to explain or show pictures due to the distance from her business in East Hanover. Suzi gave me the listed price of $90, and I personally thought it was overpriced for a 7-inch, single-tiered cake. I originally did not want to place with Suzi, but I could not find a place around me that would do a red velvet cake legitimately, besides Coco Luxe Cakes in Peapack and Gladstone. Coco Luxe discontinued their red velvet cakes, unfortunately, which is the cake I truly needed, hence why I ordered here. Next, trying to find the suite number and building for this place was a nightmare, another red flag. It's very tight behind some train tracks and very easy to miss. Thank goodness for advanced technology and Google Maps/Street View for helping me navigate. I called Suzi on the phone so she could service me at the front desk to get the cake. I picked up the cake and truly believed that I would make my sister's birthday special, and I planned everything perfectly. I stored the cake in the fridge for 2 days before eating and followed all of Suzi's storage directions. We tried the cake and it was awful. It had a fermented-like taste, and we could not eat it. I saw a similar review on Yelp of someone having Suzi make their cake for their wedding, and their wedding guests could not eat it; it was that bad. I was hoping that would not happen to me, but it did, surely. The icing was hard, dry, and chunky; the cake itself lacked flavor. I got a red velvet cake from ShopRite in July for $16.99, and it tasted way better; just the cake was a little dry. I called Suzi to give her some feedback so she knows. She informed me to come back so she could examine the taste, but at that point, we threw the cake out. $90 truly wasted. Can't really ask for a refund, I guess, because I never came back to her about it, because her location is almost an hour from my house...not sustainable for me. Despite the good reviews, I will never go to Suzi Cakes again. I will stick with another recommendation I got from a relative for Coco Luxe in Peapack if I want a professionally made cake from a bakery. My sister's birthday was ruined, and no one in my family liked the cake. The price for the cake was outrageous, and compared to other local bakeries in the area, the price does not justify the taste. I stumbled onto Suzi Cakes after having to pivot unexpectedly from a bad experience trying to order from a local (new) bakery. Suzi Cakes could not have been nicer or more accommodating with just 2 weeks notice. The communication was so simple, professional, and pleasant. They delivered the cake exactly when they said (in the pouring rain) and even placed the topper and flowers on it before leaving! And then the cake itself...oh my yum! Suzi made the most amazing cake for our wedding. It was so beautiful, I honestly do not want to cut it a part! It was very soft, moist, and darn-right delicious. I got the raspberry french custard with fresh raspberries and vanilla cake, and chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream for the top layer. Truly the hit of the event, everyone raved it! The cakes and cupcakes are tasty, which is why I'm giving Suzi Cakes three stars. My problem is that when I communicated with Suzi via email to bake me a very basic naked cake, I had to ask twice for a price (there are absolutely no prices listed on her website). Seems like she was intentionally not trying to give me a price for whatever reason. Then, when I went to pick up the cake, she tried charging me an extra $10 from what she had quoted earlier. I pulled up my email to confirm that I didn't make a mistake and didn't have the price wrong. This left such a bad taste in my mouth (pun intended). Business owners should be very clear on pricing. I am so happy I am writing this review the same day! Loved the service, suzi was very accommodating to me, even though it was last minute. I am getting married on the beach and they made me a 2-tier shower cake. Top layer was the "beach" filled with strawberry shortcake and the bottom layer was the "water" filled with a 3 layerchocolate cake and cream (like a hostess cupcake). Surrounding the cake was the most delicious mini cupcakes. My favorite part was the top of the cake which had a palm tree made of chocolate and our names and wedding date carved in the sand. Still, the flavors were OK and it was a nice little treat that you can't find elsewhere in the area. I also saw a great decorated cake and was told that they can do customized cakes that are pre-ordered. Prices were decent with each cupcake ringing in at about $2.75... about a dollar less than a Crumbs Cupcake. After months of only passing this place when it was closed, I've now been by twice in a week while it's open! Oh fair Providence! (Suggestion #1: stay open later. Evening has to be better than morning for cupcake sales. Disclaimer: I am not a cupcake salesman.) This is not all about cupcakes though. Suzi makes Cakes. Okay, it's mostly about cupcakes. There are more varieties of cupcakes than you can shake a partially filled icing bag at. Examples: Gingerbread, chocolate peppermint, cannoli, pumpkin. There are also cupcake-shaped cheesecakes that are every bit as good as a cupcake but replace dough with cheese for extra decadence. (You will hate yourself afterwards, but love yourself for making the decision that results in hating yourself. Conflict feels like a very full stomach.) Not into cupcakes? Suzi's got you covered with other desserts. I had a... well it was coconut and chocolate chips and other goodness mashed together in square form. It's good. You should get it. You have to figure out what it is though. So four stars, not five? Besides the hours, the only gripe I have is the price. Of course you get what you pay for here, and Suzi herself is baking everything from scratch (I'm just making a gross assumption here). I'm sure the prices are reasonable for what she has to do, and the empty shelves by 3 PM (4 PM close on Sunday. No one likes weekend cupcakes apparently) indicate that she's found a good price point. Certainly she is always friendly, and the place is clean albeit quite small in front. Short of half-price cupcakes within an hour of closing, the only suggestion I think could really gain traction for 5 stars is to refine those closing hours. Oh, and chocolate. Lots of chocolate. Quadruple chocolate with melty chocolate center and five types of chocolate bars melted in. Flour optional. If you take me up on this, please let me know. read more

Tried a mini peanut butter cup cheesecake and a mini raspberry mousse cake type thing... the raspberry mouse had great raspberry flavor, and the cheesecake was flavorful without being too sweet. Anyway I browsed all the delightful cupcakes available--see my photos. They had a pretty good selection for a hole in the wall bakery. I opted for the cookie dough, a vanilla cupcake stuffed with cookie dough, topped with buttercream (i think), covered in ganache and topped with a cookie dough ball , and a canolli filled, vanilla cake, buttercream, stuffed with canolli cream. Husband was really excited, and then must have forgotten that I got him these treats because now, almost 7 days later I finally said I'm having some of your dang cupcake. I'm happy to say despite a lot of refrigerator funk from a weekend bbq the cupcakes didn't pick up any weird flavors. I only tried the cookiedough but omg so good. The cupcake was moist and tender, the cookie dough was obviously delicious. I only ate half and that was plenty, it was pretty heavy but not in a gross diabeetus kind of way. He caught on and ate the rest of that cupcake plus the cannoli filled, he seemed quite happy. SOOO I will def be back to Suzi Cakes. I've gone here so times since I've grown up in this area and tried many of their amazing cupcakes (red velvet, Oreo, vanilla, carrot cake, etc), mini cheesecakes, and tons of their cookies. The cupcakes are large, dense, moist, perfectly sweetened, and have a nice layer of icing on top (my favorite is the cream cheese icing on the red velvet cupcake)! My family orders a huge box of their assorted cookies for parties or as gifts all the time. These cookies are not like the assorted cookies from the grocery store...these are on a whole other level! This bakery also makes beautiful wedding cakes. Very classy. Suzi Cake's is well known around town so you should definitely drop by and try at least one or two cupcakes and a few cookies!
